I Fucking Hate That The General Response To RFK Jr's Eugenist Take On Autistic People Is "autistic People

I fucking hate that the general response to RFK Jr's eugenist take on autistic people is "autistic people do pay taxes, autistic people do work, autistic people do date!"

Some autistic people don't and that shouldn't make them less worthy of life. Some autistic people do need constant help and support and that shouldn't make them less worthy of life.

Once again we're falling in the right wing trap of :

They make a hateful, fascist statement

Instead of focusing on the fact that it is hateful and fascist we try to show them that they are factually wrong

We throw our own allies and the most vulnerable of us under the bus in the process

We legitimise an only slightly less hateful, fascist view as we go

They have completed their goal of making us accept the still hateful, fascist second version, hurrah. What a victory.

Right now what we're getting to with that is that autistic people who can work and pay taxes are okay, and the others aren't. Fuck this shit.

Same thing happens with the people who are being deported ("they have a visa!", "they didn't even have a criminal record!" -> even if they didn't have a visa, even if they did have a criminal record, deporting them and detaining them in what's essentially a concentration camp wouldn't be okay, you absolute tools of fascism.)

There’s no such thing as work-life balance for neurodivergent & chronically ill people.

This is because everything in my life requires work:

maintaining friendships

keeping up with my hygiene

managing bills

making money

remembering my basic needs

sleeping regularly

outputting creatively

All requires some aspect of work for me.

And when everything in your life requires work, your balance goes out the window.

If you're neurodivergent and overwhelmed — I see you.

If you're chronically ill and overwhelmed — I see you.

You're not dysfunctional.

You're not incapable.

You're doing your best.

Okay, so I try hard to cover global queer history, and this isn't marking a stop to that, but I am aware that most of my audience is American, and I want to address them very directly right now.

Google Removed Pride Month From Its Calendar App, and Stonewall National Monument's "LGBTQ" status was changed to "LGB" on the government website. This is the beginning of the erasure of queer history, not the end. I don't know what the future of the United States looks like, as someone who studies queer history and has done so for many years, I want to share some tools with you.

Now is a good time to prioritize local queer history, Making Gay History is a great project, so is the Digital Transgender Archive, but also check your city and see what resources there are.

Read and buy books about queer history. I have an affiliate list with some of the books I personally recommend.

If you use Google Calendar, repopulate that resource with so much queer history with a free queer history calendar plug-in, it has names from queer history that you can also learn more about for free when they come up. As the author of these articles, feel free to save them, print them off, whatever makes them freely accessible as suppression get's worse.

Use your local library. Email the board about book bans, request banned books, request queer books, and make your voice heard.

Make queer art. Share queer art. Protect queer art. Here is some public-domain queer art to use as you wish.

Keep up with queer news, THEM is a great resource.

All of these tools are currently freely accessible with an internet connection. Queer history is a community responsibility, do your part.

Narration: [Ever since you told me you plan to marry him…] A dark-haired bride and her groom, their faces obscured, lean towards each other, about to kiss. Rose petals drift across the page. Narration: [...I’ve been talking to lots of other girls!] Feeb sits in bed, hair held back in a plush bunny-ear headband, scrolling through a dating app with a mischievous smile.

Narration: [Lately, I’ve been chatting with this one girl, a total sweetheart. She loves to bake… shares my hobbies… and looks like she belongs on the cover of a magazine.] The girl in question turns slightly towards the viewer with a charming smile, though the upper half of her face is left blank. She has wavy light hair. Narration: [We text everyday!] Feeb smiles and texts on his phone, the message chat history popping up beside him.

Narration: [I haven’t met her in-person yet, but last night… I dreamt that I did.] Feeb follows her date as they stroll outdoors, Feeb smiling and chatting happily. Her date’s face is obscured as she listens. Narration: [I was walking behind her, speaking to her back.]

Both Feeb and her date pause. The date begins to look over her shoulder. Narration: [She turned to face me, to say something. I thought to myself—] Feeb, eyes shining: [Oh, I’m finally about to see her face in-person for the first time.]

Narration: [She turned around.] Feeb blushes as his date faces him. Narration: [Sure enough, she was radiantly beautiful, but not quite how I expected. Something was a bit off.] Feeb and his date’s shoes point towards each other.

Feeb blushes. Petals drift across the page, just like before. Narration: [I stared at her, confused, but utterly enchanted. Distinctly, I remember thinking—] Feeb, blushing even more: [She’s way cuter than her pictures. Maybe a million times cuter than I thought…]

Feeb sits up in bed, eyes wide. Narration: [It was only when I woke up, that I realized… In the dream— she had been wearing your face.] The final text box rests over the date’s face as she turns to look at Feeb, but she is now transformed into the dark-haired girl from the beginning. Rose petals drift across the page.
