TRULY the prevailing myth of John winchester is what breaks everything. Dean can’t say hey mom dad didn’t love me so I’m going to need you to overcompensate on his part so I can feel normal because they’re all pretending John DID love them. He was a great dad mary says fresh from the grave and dean gives her a tight smile. Because he’s spent SO many years editorializing John that he doesn’t want to voluntarily pull at that string. He’s rationalized John as A Loving Father. He’s internalized so much shit from His Loving Father. Dismantling John would dismantle his ENTIRE life. So he cant say John was shitty. Mary can’t know anything but the basics about their life. Dean wants his mom to give him compensation love but he cant tell her what he needs compensated for because if he has Issues about his dad then he has issues about how he HIMSELF acts and his way of life and everything crashes down if he stops pushing the myth.
