Just because something works for you doesn’t mean it works for someone else or vice versa.
Just because it helped you to forgive your abuser doesn’t mean that everyone has to forgive in order to heal.
Just because it helped you and gave you closure to report doesn’t mean everyone has to report to heal.
Just because being angry was bad for you and caused you harm doesn’t mean being angry is bad for someone else.
There is no one way to heal. Everyone is different and heals differently. Assuming that because something worked for you, therefore it must work for everyone else is wrong and ignores the fact that we’re all individuals on our own healing journey. Or assuming that because something didn't work for you means it isn't valid for anyone else is wrong.
Something being right for you doesn’t make it right for everyone. Something being harmful to you doesn’t mean it’s harmful to everyone. We are all unique and this means our healing journeys will also be unique to us. And that's okay.

the way fandoms are desperate to make all aroace characters romance and sex favorable but then dont do anything remotely similar to any other identity is astounding. hmm i wonder why
PLEASE dont derail this about shipping characters of other identities please let this one post be about an aroace struggle
trying to engage in protest communities has felt like this lately
On paper, an adult cartoon created by a man where many of the female characters are voiced by men would look deeply misogynistic, and in many cases it is, but I feel like YOLO really stands out from that trend. The main characters are women and they can be loud, gross, and flawed, but in the same way that men in adult television have been allowed to be for years. Women can be funny and imperfect without being reduced to one-note sexist stereotypes and I think this show really displays that. Rachel's male VA does not attempt to put on a shrill, fake "woman's" voice but instead just captures her gruff and assertive personality. There's no joke about her or anyone else having a "man's voice," that's just Rachel and we love her the way she is. Similarly, Michael Cusack dressed in full drag in one scene and that wasn't portrayed as a joke either. Although there are still many men in the show, they are all supporting characters to the ladies' adventures, outright flipping the script on the many shows out there where women are relegated to supporting roles to the men's antics. It is honestly really refreshing.
Of course, above anything I advocate for more adult cartoons with women fully at the lead, like Tuca & Bertie. But I think Michael Cusack and YOLO set a good example of how men can create a good comedy without being allergic to showing women as full people. Sarah and Rachel are both funny and go through a lot of character growth, and Michael really seems to understand that women do not have to be written as a different species than men. It also helps that YOLO's production team is full of women, including the art director and almost all of the co-writers who work with Michael. Women are very much a key part of this show's storytelling and it shows.
