Every day a story about why they’re killing you

least favorite genre of post on here has gotta be "having mental illness doesn't excuse bad behavior" from people with depression/anxiety, who mistakenly believe everyone with psychosis is simply suffering from distorted thinking like they are. i have the kind of bipolar that causes psychosis under the wrong conditions and it is radically different from the distorted thinking i have when manic or depressed. "distorted thinking" is "there's nothing wrong with stealing those groceries from a stranger's car, they won't catch you and you need it more than them". "psychosis" is "you're not stealing those groceries in that stranger's car, they belong to you and those people are just holding them". (never mind that "i haven't eaten in days and they can afford a car" morally complicates either situation for a moment.)
i have been in a state where i earnestly believed things that were radically untrue and they lead me to cause harm to others. these were not minor distortions in an otherwise accurate picture of the world, they were fundamentally incorrect pictures of the world. some of them were fairly innocuous and are largely water under the bridge. some of them were serious and i still feel shame about them now. but i have also seen people hounded to the ends of the earth over shit they did in a delusional state which would be utterly out of character while compos mentis and it feels cosmically unfair.
There's something so tragic about someone who has nothing sacrificing themself for the one who gave them everything.
a gunman in georgia just went on a shooting spree targeting asian owned business in a hate crime involving 8 deaths of people with varying nationalities (6 asian, with 1 white woman and 1 white man) last night. (click on photos to enlarge, credits to @frogvk on twitter for the graphics)
As a leftist, it sucks that you can scream from the rooftops in the most patient and persistent way, even for years, and still be treated like an alarmist. ....But, that’s just how it kind of works. Leftists, radicals, revolutionaries.. they are the ones that push society’s ideals to the left. It’s happened all throughout history. Their causes end up being co-opted by liberals, and are compromised and watered down. Leftists want to end this cycle of exploitation, oppression, and settled amount of suffering. For good. And we really do have a chance at doing that at this point. We don't want to reform this system, because we've seen time and time again throughout history how reform is undone. That that's what compromising with capitalism always leads to, no matter how regulated and ethical you try to make it. That's why: Revolution>reform. That’s the biggest thing people need to understand.
Like with this past summer. It was the biggest civil rights movement in history. But ultimately, we're seeing it has only made a dent in terms of changing the system we live under as a whole. Democrats aren't doing dick because they don't want to fundamentally change things for the working class or any marginalized group. And progressives, like AOC and Bernie, who think they are noble in being in the game to fight it, are also finding themselves compromising like hell trying to push the most basic reforms. And although, certain systemic reforms are important, and necessary, long term reforms are not sustainable, and they're not enough.
Sometimes things really to have to get this bad for this long to truly wake people up. Trump. This pandemic. It made people who were distracted, stuck in complacent survival mode, affected to the point of understanding that it takes collective action to fundamentally change things. But this is the moment when many should be wondering ..why in god's name would we want to reform a system like this, and not create a new one?
Would love to see internet ppl stop quoting that "reject modernity, embrace tradition" thing as if it's some silly meme-able phrase and not an alt-right/fascist dogwhistle. Like it's barely even a dogwhistle it's pretty damn obvious what it's about when you think abt it for more than 5 seconds. Anyways cut that shit out
I had 3 periods in one month after being tear gassed.
My friend who was protesting regularly, and being exposed to tear gas, had a cyst the size of an orange form on her uterus.
My other friend had her period for a straight month after being tear gassed.
There isn’t enough research right now that examines the long term effects of tear gas on people with uteruses. Who knows what could happen to us.
This is America.
Not people saying “Fandom has always been like this” in that vent post I made. No. It hasn’t always been like this. Fandom has NEVER been like this until recently and if you were in fandom pre-tumblr purge, pre-twitter, pre-netflix boom, pre-tiktok….then you would fucking know it was nothing like this.
We still had the drive to create. We still sold prints and charms and made zines…but it was never like this.
The introduction of streaming, binge shows that drop all at once, tiktok and vine RIP i still love u vine but you were the beginning of a particularly ugly era) creating this bite sized, quick paced ‘content’ era of creation and it bled out into fucking everything else.
Fandoms didn’t die down when the show ended or the season was over. You didn’t mass unfollow artist, writers or moots just because they changed fandoms. There wasn’t this need to please the algorithm in order for your posts to get seen by people and enjoyed.
Fandoms used to last YEARS. Star Trek is literally the oldest running fandom out there and you got people in there that could care less about the new stuff and still have been happily prancing through their fucking fifty year old fandom today. Hell, even SPN after all it’s fuckups and shitshows has a dedicated fanbase STILL creating tons of art and fic.
There is no patience anymore. No calm feeling of taking in fandom and friends at a pace that which doesn’t make you stressed and is still fun.
Do I blame fandom for this? Of course not, but people are complacent with it and start changing their vocab to accommodate and end up making the situation so deep it cant be fixed.
We call Art & Fic Content now, completely stripping the value of what it is to a level of consumerism instead of personal entertainment & community bonding.
I cannot stress this enough; you need to support public education. You need to assure high standards are being kept and that funding is sustained, increased, and appropriately divested.
The far-right (and even conservative right) have spent decades eroding the belief and support of public education. We are now reaching the end stages of the goal. On the surface it looks like they simply want to defund public schools in order to prop up their charter and religious private schools, but it’s so much worse and you need to be concerned.
Without proper education people are left naive to what is going on around them - in this case it would be the dismantling of democracy. Without learning how to properly understand information and critically think about actions and events you’re likely to just believe what you’re told.
Public education is a pillar of democracy. This is not a question or opinion it is a straight fact.
There is so much more to this and I could continue on for pages but I’m simply asking you to be aware and try to do whatever you can to prop up and support public education before it is truly too late.
