*sighs* yes, aegon’s claim is actually very valid. he is not some second distant cousin pretender usurper. he is first born son of a king, in a land, where male primogeniture is an actual legal thing.
“viserys, the king, named rhaenyra an heir. not aegon.” - well, that’s nice and all but did he legally changed the primogeniture? did he made an actual law that woman when elder was to inherit instead of their younger male counterpart? no, he didn’t because that would challenge his own position. that’s the joke. viserys wanted rhaenyra to be the queen, which is totally fair and reasonable, but he was too comfortable to take the kingship from rhaenys.
viserys wasn’t some kind of progressive feminist king - he just had favorite child. and aegon, while ill-fitted to be the king, had a good claim. if viserys wasn’t the blind fool he was, he would realized that but he didn’t. that’s all.
there's something absolutely heartbreaking about taylor phrasing the feeling of losing a fundamental part of your life as a woman to an abusive man that took advantage of the age gap in the relationship as "Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first" because it just SHOWS how young she was, it's phrased as one of those things that little girls say like "Give me back my barbie, it was mine first" i don't even know how to explain this properly but that shit HURT ME
i don’t kno if it’s intentionally vague because of spoilers for the future or if it’s it meant to be the only cultural legacy of valryia is turning essos into a slaving culture and burning people alive but either way valyria is ash and the targs are killing themselves over ghosts instead of just accepting they are regular old westerosi people, like what actually *is* valryian culture targ stans always go on about, what was it? what do we know about it?
I want to be excited for the live action Little Mermaid so badly
The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie. Anyone who knows me knows I'm obsessed with mermaids as a whole and will watch any media that has them. Hell, I own my own tails and monofins. But every time I see a gif or a video for the new Little Mermaid, I cringe
(btw, this is NOT because of the casting. If you're against this movie because Ariel is black, you're a racist piece of shit and this post isn't for you)
My issue lies with the CGI. It just looks so FAKE. We've seen through the course of movies and TV shows that use it that CGI does not age well, and that's because technology is constantly improving. What was impressive in 2005 is not impressive in 2023 (Just look at Aquamarine, another movie about mermaids). And the CGI on Ariel and her sisters already looks fake and the movie isn't even out yet!
Compare this image from the trailer
To this screenshot from H20: Just Add Water (a TV show that came out in 2006):
You can see the details of the scales in the second image
The first image is flat. Sure, it's colorful, but it's flat. It's fake. Halle herself is the most beautiful and alive part of the image, because everything else is fake
The difference?
H20 had costume designers, ones specifically trained in mermaid tail making, HAND CRAFT every tail on the show. All of the scales were hand laid, all the tails molded to fit the actors/actresses perfectly, painted by hand
Let's even look at someone with no affiliation to TV or movies:
This is Mermaid Linden, a very well known (in the mermaid community) professional mermaid. You can tell her tail is not as high quality as the ones made for H20 (though it's still a VERY expensive tail) - but it still looks like it's a part of her. You can still see the details. Because professional mermaid tails are also all handmade and molded to fit each person. Even if they don't lay every individual scale, good professional mermaid tail makers are very meticulous about what they do.
This is what happens when Disney refuses to pay practical effects artists. We could have had beautiful, handmade tails that would look real on screen for decades to come and could be reused for promotional purposes - instead, they're underpaying and overworking their non-unionized employees to make CGI tails that don't even look real now.
(to be clear, I'm not shitting on the artists. As I said, they're being underpaid and overworked. This is not their fault)
And before anyone comes and says "But swimming in those is difficult!" Absolutely it is. You should never swim in a professional level tail (or even just fabric tails) without practice and training. Which Disney could have given the cast if they were willing to PAY people (the cast of H20 [a TV SHOW] literally learned how to be mermaids on set. It's been done before)
Disney's "Live Action" needs to be rebranded as "CGI with some real people tossed in" because that's all any of these remakes have been, and it's exhausting when I look at what we could have had.
I mean, I do get Catelyn’s POV and I sympathize with her, but rereading the part where she tells Ned she won’t have Jon in Winterfell always pisses me off. Especially when my siblings are close to his age, like, that’s a baby, ma’am. My mind has been changed on Catelyn in the past few years, but I’m never going to get over her. She is not invited to my house.
But it also brings up the fact that Ned is the real villain of this story, because he should have planned for Jon’s future from the start. It’s really stupid how he just sort of never seems to have considered ANY of the kids’ inevitable need for resources.
Like, for example, Arya and Sansa should have dowries and lands of their own being held in consideration at this point, and SOMETHING(land, keeps, money) should have been put aside for the boys, including Jon(which would have been standard practice IRL). It’s also pretty silly how Robb’s marriage apparently isn’t even being considered at this point?
Arya comes across as even more of a spoilt brat on the reread. I realized this isn’t just a class. There are a bunch of ladies with them, indicating that Cersei must have brought SOME kind of household, or that she has one for Myrcella. So Arya throws her tantrum in what amounts to a social gathering and leaves her sister and the septa to clean up afterwards.
Also, cute when she does her little sulk about how Sansa can’t run a household because she’s not as good at math as Arya, knowing that in a few books Sansa will be running the Eyrie easily. So Arya’s chapter here is basically her being wrong about nearly everything and having a fit over it.
It still bothers me how no one seems to notice that Arya does a few stitches, notices that they’re crooked, and just gives up. I think ppl would be more sympathetic to her plight in universe if she actually tried. It seems like if she’s not immediately good at stuff, she just decides it’s stupid.
Also, why do ppl expect me to believe Arya’s being bullied? This whole thing would have been a perfect opportunity for some mean girl style bullying and the worst that happens is that Jeyne smirks a little. And given the fact that Arya thinks of Jeyne with nothing but rudeness, that’s not surprising.
She’s honestly one of the most annoying characters in this series and it makes sense that she’s so close to Jon, because my god, this dude is really just… he’s the equivalent of styrofoam touching styrofoam in human form.

Y'all ever wonder if Mike's gonna realize how important he is to Hawkins' survival when he sees how hard Nancy and them epic failed in stopping Vecna. He's usually the one besting the UD by foiling all the takeover plans with his counter planning, and the ONE TIME he goes on vacation for spring break Dustin and co can barely manage anything without it falling to pieces. They are desperately trying to get Mike on the phone line for assist.
Would Mike hear from Lucas about Max's broken Walkman cuz of Jason stepping on it, and as Lucas speaks Mike is internally thinking up how he would've easily solved it by having a failsafe (backup Walkman in case it gets broken etc). Cuz that's what he does, he's a strategist. He comes up with a Plan A to Infinity when stuck in a corner.
Mike only thinks, as of right now, that El needs him but it's actually the Party and Hawkins in general that rely on Mike's ability to connect the dots/see the bigger picture. He's really minimizing himself to being that loser who stumbled upon 'Superman' El when he's such a quick thinking leader. I mean, it should really give Mike some food for thought in how shitty things became without his presence for a boy that believes he's better off being a self-sacrifice.
