Chapter 2. Jasper

Mitsuko had spent most of the weekend at home, both comforting and receiving comfort from her family. She’d also spent time with Riley’s parents, doing the same as she did for Charlie only a couple months ago. She even helped them with the missing posters.

Her friends had messaged to check on her after she’d left school early; she’d decided to be honest with them. In their friend group chat, she’d informed them about Riley and was thankful for the support they showed her. They also told her about how Edward had taken Bella out of town, explaining her lack of response in the chat.

By Sunday, she’d given herself enough time to comprehend the situation. Yet her dreams grew worse night by night. It was the same every time: blood was everywhere, upturned or smashed cars covered the car park, and people kept screaming. She saw figures clawing at each other, tearing them apart before throwing them into fires.

A particular shriek always shocked her awake, the same pitch every time, and Monday was no different. Her eyes flashed open in fear, and she quickly sat up, her pink floral duvet gathering by her legs. Bringing her hands to her face, she wiped the sleep from her eyes and moved the hair from her face.

‘Shit’ she thought as she looked to her bedside alarm clock; she’d woken up late. She scrambled out of bed to her vanity table, quickly putting on her everyday makeup and brushing her hair out.

After she was dressed in a simple white skirt and floral blouse, she made her way downstairs. She greeted her mom brightly and graciously accepted the piece of toast offered to her. Hoshiko was already sitting at the table eating a bowl of porridge, lifting her head to smile as her sister took the seat opposite.

They ate breakfast quickly and made sure to clear up their dishes after they ate. Hoshiko raced out of the house with a simple “Hurry up, we’re already late” before hopping into the passenger seat of the Mitsuko’s Mini. The drive to school was full of simple chatter and a mixture of pop and alternative music, a demand made by Hoshiko last year.

Hoshiko was busy telling Mitsuko about her classes for next year when they’d pulled up to school. The sisters parked next to Ben’s car, stepping out to greet their friends.

“Yo Suki, who do you think would win?” Mike immediately asked her instead of a greeting.

“What are you talking about?” She asked confusedly before turning towards where Mike then pointed, “Is that?“

“Edward and Jacob Black? Yep, I don’t know what they’re fighting about, but it seems pretty tense.” Jessica interrupted before she could finish.

Jacob's voice began to elevate as he got angrier, alarmed that her friend was close to a possible fight. Mitsuko stepped forward to try and intervene but was stopped by a strong grip on her wrist. Gasping at the sudden touch, she turned around, only to come face to face with Jasper Hale.

His face was stern and almost worried; brows furrowed, and he stared at her before speaking, "Don't; they know better than to get physical.”

“How do you know that?” She replied back, feeling confused again.

“Just trust me.” He smirked at her, causing a blush to spread across her cheeks.

“If you say so,” she conceded, pausing before continuing. “You have English first, don’t you?”

He didn’t speak, only nodding in reply. “Do you think I could walk with you? We’re in that class together.”

“I know.” Jasper spoke up. “And I don’t mind.” She smiled shyly at his response before gesturing for him to take the lead. It was only as they began walking that she realised Jasper hadn’t let go of her wrist the whole time they were talking, only letting go once she turned away from Edward and Jacob.

His touch returned as she walked up the front steps, a single hand placed on the small of her back to steady her as she walked. Jasper held the main doors open, which allowed her to step inside. It was then Mitsuko built up the courage to say what she’d been wanting to say to him since Friday. “Thank you, by the way.”

His steps faulted slightly as he turned to her, “What for?”

“It’s stupid,” she shook her head, “but on Friday you really helped me ground me, so thank you.”

“It’s not stupid, but you don’t need to thank me.” Jasper looked at Mitsuko deeply as he spoke. She had seen the Cullens eyes before, but Jasper’s seemed so much more intense than the others. It was like she could stare into the pools of amber all day.

‘You barely know him,’ she remained herself, unsure where these sudden feelings came from. Ever since Friday she’d felt a subtle itch under her skin as if her body was craving something; it only faded when she’d seen Jasper’s face.

Ignoring her rapid thoughts, she continued to walk next to Jasper down the corridor. Eventually, the pair arrived outside her English class. Stepping in, she noticed that her seat partner was absent today. Sighing, she sat down and prepared herself for a quiet class.

When she crouched to place her bag under her chair, she nearly jumped when she stood and found Jasper now sitting in the chair next to hers.

“You don’t mind if I sit here, do you?” He asked, looking intently.

“Not at all.” Mitsuko replied, smiling softly at him. They sat quietly next to each other while their teacher loaded up the movie on the monitor. As soon as he hit play, Jasper turned to her and whispered softly.

“How are you feeling?”

“Better than Friday, but I’ve been struggling with those episodes for a while, so I’m used to it.” There was something about Jasper that put her at ease; she couldn’t help but tell the truth.

“What exactly happened to you, if you don’t mind me asking?” He continued to whisper; neither was even attempting to watch the movie. Mitsuko hesitated slightly before answering.

“I get these... hallucinations sometimes,” she explained. “It’s not often, but when they happen, they tend to overwhelm me.”

“How do you deal with them?” Jasper asked, genuinely curious.

“Mostly medication, but it doesn’t work as well as it used to.” Mitsuko answered truthfully, and Jasper listened intently, his face full of concern. “I’ve kind of had a hard week.”

"Oh, do you want to… talk about it?”

“It’s…” She paused as a shot of grief ran through her. “My friend Riley Biers went missing in Seattle almost a year ago, and I’ve only just found out.”

“I’m sorry that happened.”

“I just wish I’d known sooner, you know?” Mitsuko explained, to which Jasper nodded in understanding, “Maybe I could’ve done something.”

Jasper lent towards her, cautiously placing his hands on her. She shivered under his cold touch but didn’t pull away. “Don’t do that to yourself; you have nothing to feel guilty about.”

“I don’t feel guilty.” She tried to state it firmly, but she knew it was a lie.

He smiled slightly. “Hate to break it to you, darling, but you wear your heart on your sleeve.”

She blushed and looked down at their hands were connected, noticing how he was softly stroking the back of her right hand. They sat there in silence for the rest of the lesson, just enjoying the comfort they felt from each other.

When the bell rang and the rest of the class began to stand, their hands finally separated. Jasper stood first, grabbing Mitsuko’s bag before grabbing his things as well. She smiled brightly as he helped her put the bag on her right shoulder before following him out of the room.

They walked side by side down the corridor, earning some strange looks from the other students. Yet the dark-haired girl paid them no mind and simply kept walking.

"You know," Jasper started, "people are staring at us."

Mitsuko simply smiled at him before replying, “Just ignore them; they have nothing better to do.”

He glanced over to her again, studying her profile as they walked. "You never get bothered by people watching you?"

“Of course I do, but if I let it affect me all the time, I'd never go anywhere.” She explained matter of factly before continuing, “You know they’re probably only staring at you.”

“Me?”

The dark-haired girl looked at him with an amused expression. "Yeah, we’ve never hung out before, and now here you are escorting me down the hallways like a boyfriend does.” but before he could respond, she continued, "Not that I mind."

"Well, my apologies," he replied with a smirk, his southern twang coming out slightly. "Maybe I just realised you were someone worth paying attention to."

“Thank you.” She blushed slightly but played it off once she realised that they’d arrived outside my classroom. "Well, this is my class; thanks for escorting me here.”

“Anytime Ma’am.” The blonde replied, dipping his head slightly in a small bow.

With a bright smile, she made her way into the class, but not before giving Jasper a small wave goodbye. For the rest of the day, Mitsuko had an extra pep in her step but also couldn’t stop thinking about Jasper.

As much as she enjoyed his company, she was confused. Ever since the Cullens returned from wherever they had disappeared, Jasper had suddenly become very interested in her, and she’d definitely noticed.

At lunch it was the same as always, the group laughing together except with a new addition. Jasper had taken the seat next to Mitsuko again, listening intently as she joked with her friends, and gently placed his hand on her back again, following the same circle motions he used yesterday. She couldn’t help but lean into the touch, feeling wave after wave of comfort and contentment.

“So Jasper,” Jessica spoke up, causing him to finally look away from the girl next to him. “Will you be there at the graduation party?”

“Um, yeah, I’m sure Alice will find a way to make me come,” he answered a little awkwardly.

Angela looked at Jessica with a bemused expression. “You know it’s happening at his house, right?”

“Well, yeah, I was just wondering; he usually keeps to himself,” she responded before trying to Jasper, “no offence though.”

“None taken.” He replied politely with a small nod.

Hoping to diffuse the tension, Mitsuko turned to the blonde and smiled at him, “It’ll be nice to see you there.”

Jasper relaxed visibly when Mitsuko spoke up. It was clear he had been feeling a bit tense from the conversation with Jessica, but her words put him at ease.

"Yeah," he agreed with a small smile. "It will be nice to see you too.”

After Jasper spoke, the bell rung, so everyone began making their way out of the cafeteria and to the next classes. Jasper again took on the duty of escorting Mitsuko to her next class. The pair walked in silence until they stopped in front of her classroom.

“We probably won’t see each other after this.” She began, “I have a committee meeting after school, but I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Yes, of course.” He nodded, “I will see you tomorrow.”

The two shared a smile, both excited for tomorrow but especially the party next week.

Chapter 6. Vegas

Spencer and Hana should probably talk about the other night, if only their wan't so important and distracting. Or maybe they're just coming up with excuses. Chapter Title: Vegas by Doja Cat

Spencer and Hana hadn’t spoken about the drunken kiss they’d shared only a few weeks ago. It had only been a three days after that night they’d been sent out on another case in , but once they’d gotten back to DC neither knew how broach the subject. Even now as they sat next to each other on the jet heading to Las Vegas, New Mexico, they both struggled to start a conversation about that night; so they didn’t.

“I wish it was the fun Las Vegas.” Hana complained as she ate the salad Sasha had made her that morning.

“Did you know I’m from Vegas?”

“Really?” She turned to him, perking up in interest, “Does this mean I should bring you with the next time I head to the casinos?”

“I would sat yes but I’m actually banned from majority of the casinos in Vegas.” He informed her nonchalantly.

“Holy shit!” She exclaimed in surprise, “I was wrong you got a little bad side to you, Doctor.”

He laughed at her, which encouraged Hana to laugh as well. Out of habit she hit him slightly on the arm as she continued to laugh, before catching her breath. The pair were soon joined by the rest of the team in order to get a general profile before they land.

“Is there even anything interesting about this Las Vegas?” Hana questioned to start the discussion, which Spencer was happy to contribute.

“In the late 19th century, it was a booming railroad hub with a reputation for lawlessness, and apparently, outlaws are a part of the town's genetics. Billy the Kid lived there, and Doc Holliday himself had a saloon there before going to meet Wyatt Earp in Tombstone.”

“The more things change, the more things stay the same.” Rossi chimed in, looking through the case file.

“All the victims in both instances were teenagers, except for Jose Rivera.”

“A younger staff, that's pretty typical for a night shift.” Morgan chimed in, to add extra information.

“The unsubs might have considered that. It would be easier to subdue a group of kids.”

Tara leaned forward slightly so she could contribute, “Almost an identical M.O. Copycat or no, why go back to this town and do this again?

“They could be sending some kind of message to announce their return.” Spencer suggested, followed by Rossi’s other idea.

“Or it just might be criminal ego. They got away with it the first time. Why not do it again?”

“Could also be about reliving it, if it is the same unsubs they might be wanting to relive the ‘glory days’.” Hana noted although she didn’t consider killing teenagers and arson as something someone should see as their ‘glory days’

“With unsubs this violent, how do you just disappear and go dormant for 6 years?” Morgan questioned, continuing to build the profile.

Hotch turned towards Morgan before speaking, “They may have been in prison. That would explain the criminal experience.”

“Crime U., best education taxpayer money can buy.” Rossi uttered making Hana smirk slightly, yet she hid it behind her hand at the glance she received from Hotch.

“When we land, I'll have Garcia compile a list of recently released convicts in the area. Morgan, you and Reid go with Federov to the coroner when we land. Lewis, you're with Dave and me at the local PD.”

With that the team waited until they landed until they wait their separate ways. Hana followed Spencer and Morgan to one of the 3 cars waiting for them before heading off to the coroner. The arrived only a few minutes later, exiting the vehicle the trio made the way towards the building. The wind was slightly strong and kept blowing Hana’s hair into her face. She gather her hair and went to tie it into a pony tail only to realise that she didn’t have a hair tie on either wrist. Sighing heavily, she released her hair, allowing to flow in the wind.

As they continued walking, Hana felt a tap on her shoulder and turned to face Spencer to her right. He handed her something before continuing towards the building. She looked down to see that he had handed her a small black hair tie. Smiling slightly, she pulled her hair backup and tied into a messy ponytail.

“Thanks!” She called over to Spencer, who turned and smiled in reply.

Once they entered the building the met with the coroner who led them through to the morgue where the three victims laid on separate metal autopsy table. Hana felt a strange feeling as looked at the victims, this was the first time she’d seen someone younger than her. They had so much life left in them, so much potential. She wanted to catch these assholes. Or maybe just kill them.

Spencer leaned in to assess the victims, “Several antemortem wounds, facial lacerations, fractured jaw, a fractured skull.”

“Yeah, it was a brutal beating. All 3 of them had broken ribs, too.” The coroner responded as he read from his autopsy report.

“And ligature marks.” The doctor noted as he continued look over the bodies.

The coroner nodded before continuing, “Looks like the boys were bound with their own belts and electrical wires. I found leather and melted plastic in their clothes.”  He spoke as he lead them towards the female victim, “Renee Acosta was different. There's evidence of sexual assault.”

“Any recoverable DNA?”, Morgan asked.

“None. Whatever wasn't destroyed by the fire got washed away by the sprinklers. But she was recovered without clothes on. And based on the cotton and nylon fibres I found around her wrists, I think they restrained her with her own underwear.”

Spencer looked up from the female victim, “That's precisely what happened to the female victim 6 years ago.”

“Those details weren't released to the press. These aren't copycats. These are the same guys.” Morgan noted in reply.

Hana looked between the two other agents before speaking, “The question still stands, I mean why come back now?”

As it turns out only one of the unsubs was the original perpetrators from 6 years ago. Duke Mason had returned due his old flame, who most likely gave birth to his son before he was imprisoned all those years ago. Garcia, the wonder that she is, was able to find Tammy Vasquez’ address, and now Hana was sat next to Morgan as the team drove their way over there.

When they arrived Chief Montoya reached the house first and made his way to the door to knock, everyone else gathered behind him.

“Ms. Vasquez! Police! Hello? Anybody home?” He called multiple times with seemingly no answer, “Nobody here.”

They turned to leave before Morgan heard a muffled cry in the distance, causing him to pause, “Wait a minute. You hear that?”, He moved towards the door before knocking, “FBI! Anybody here?”

Hana moved closer to the door and heard more sobbing coming from the house, she nodded at Morgan to show she heard it too. “There's somebody in there.”

The officers went around the back as Morgan kicked open the door. Moving through the house, Hana made her way through following closely behind Morgan. Turning a corner the pair found an older woman tied up with duct tape across her mouth.

“Guys.” Morgan called as he made his way to the woman tied up, “It's ok. It's ok, I got you. I got you. Are you hurt?”

“No. I'm fine. He took them. He took them both.”

“We need to issue an Amber alert.” Rossi stated a turned around back outside the house. Hana stayed for moment longer making sure the other woman was okay, before following her team outside.

She walked towards Morgan and Rossi who were speaking to each other. While she didn’t catch the beginning of the conversation she heard Rossi’s question to Morgan. “What happened to Turner?”

“I bet it got pretty ugly when they split up.” Morgan suggested, car pulled up the scene and Spencer step out running slightly towards them.

“Hotch is out coordinating roadblocks and canvassing the area, but so far nothing.” Spencer spoke, giving them an update.

“Why switch directions are risk coming all the way back here?”

Rossi shrugged slightly before answering, “He's strung out and believes that boy Cole is his son. He's capable of anything.”

“We should extend the Amber alert.” Spencer suggested to which the team all nodded in a agreement.

Chief Montoya shouted as he made his way over to the team, “Agents! Tammy Vasquez' pickup truck was spotted heading south on Route 34.”

“Is that far from here?”

“About 10 miles or so. State police have major roadways on the other end blocked off so he can't get out, but it cuts through the Santa Fe National Forest. If he knows what he's doing, he can hole up out there for weeks.”

“Where would he go to access fresh water?”

“There's an old abandoned campground. It doesn't get used much. Sometimes the kids go up there to drink.”

“He'd want to go someplace familiar.” Rossi observed

“That’s probably where he took them.” Hana stated as Spencer turned to her, a strange expression on his face.

“Agents, if you don't mind me making a suggestion,” Montoya spoke as he lifted a map for everyone to see, “I know that place like the back of my hand.”

Hana stood next to Rossi as her and the team listened as he pointed to the map at a certain point where they could move if they wanted to catch Mason by surprise. After the plan was set up, they separated into small groups and headed towards the campsite.

When they arrived Hana noticed the car park up, and two figures that appeared to be arguing, she turned to Rossi who nodded to indicate it was time to intervene. Signalling to the other groups who moved in to the figures.

Noticing the guns each of them was holding, Morgan stood out slightly to announce their presence, “FBI, drop the weapon!”

In response, Hana heard the one with the long hair shout something before the pair began to fire at the police and agents in the trees. In the firefight they were able to take the long haired with one sniper shot, but Mason stayed up longer.

Hana step out for one moment in attempt to get mother shot in, when she felt red hot pain exploded in her right side. She moved back behind the tree and put her hand against the pain source; only to find her hand coated in blood. The asshole had managed to get a shot clean through her shoulder.

“Shit!” She cursed as she put her back on the wound, “You motherfucker!”

“Language!” She heard the Rossi shout over from his position.

“With all due respect sir,” she replied, “I’ve been fucking shot!”

While she was shouting back she noticed the firefight had finally ended and saw Mason lying on the ground. The lack of bullets firing allowed Rossi to make his over to where she was now sitting against the tree.

“Don’t worry it was clean shot, I’ll just need stitches.” She reassured as her unit chief looked at her shoulder in concern.

“Someone should still take a look at it before we leave.” He ordered as he grabbed her uninjured left arm to help her up.

She smiled wryly at him, the pain still making her dizzy. “Careful, Sir someone might think you like me.”

Rossi laughed slightly before replying, “Oh we wouldn’t want that.”

After Hana was patched, she joined her team at the funeral of the victims, dressed in black sat between Spencer and Tara on a wooden church pew. That strange feeling that she felt when she saw the bodies had came back, causing her to clench the skirt of the simple black dress she was wearing. As she listened to the singer, and watching the parents say their last goodbyes; she realised it was sorrow. She’d felt sorrow before, but this was the first time she had mourned not only for these young victims but also for the lives they could’ve lived.

So, around some of the few people that she trusted, she allowed one tear to fall. Noticing the need for comfort she felt Tara reach out and grasp Hana's hand gently, to which she squeezed it in thanks. At least this time she felt sorrow; she wasn’t alone.

VI. Midnight Circles

By four o’clock in the morning the two sisters had created what they thought was a solid plan in how to break the news to their mom. The most important part of the plan was that they should definitely wait until morning, rather than waking her up at nearly four in the morning.

“Could you sleep with me tonight?” Mitsuko asked as she slipped into bed, unwilling for Hoshiko to leave her side just yet. She didn’t want her to disappear again.

“I can’t…” Hoshiko replied, her face suddenly distressed. “I mean, I can’t sleep.”

“At all?”

She nodded before elaborating further, “I tried to, yesterday, but… nothing.”

“Could you…” Mitsuko hesitated for a moment. “Lie with me anyway?”

The younger sister simply smiled at her sister softly before stepping forward and sinking into the empty space next to Mitsuko. The eldest pulled the cover over them before reaching across and pulling the younger sister close.

However, as soon as Hoshiko was pulled close to Mitsuko’s throat, she tensed suddenly in her sister’s arms. Concerned, she pulled away to look at her sister in concern, only to be met by dark black eyes.

“Hoshi, is everything okay?” She asked her sister, who still hadn’t moved.

“You smell so…” Suddenly Hosiko interrupted herself by nearly flinging herself across the room, hitting the wall behind, causing the house to shake.

Mitsuko stood to follow her sister but was stopped by a deep growl coming from the younger girl, “Stay back!”

“I don’t under—“ This time Mitsuko was cut off by a furious pounding on their front door.

The two sisters were still for a moment, staring at each other as they listened to banging on the door. As they simply stood there, the distinct sound of their mom's door opening echoed through the house, followed quickly by her footsteps.

“Mom!” Mitsuko called out, moving to her door and stepping out from her room, her sister cautiously following behind her, still keeping a sizeable distance.

By the time the sisters had moved from her room and downstairs, their mom was already at the door and opened it.

“Doctor Cullen?” Their mom said as she opened the door, “It’s the middle of the night!”

“I am aware, Mrs Tanaka; apologies for disturbing you,” Carlisle said with a neutral expression. “I need to speak to your daughters.”

“I’m Carlisle, but only Mitsuko is here; Hoshi is—“

“Right here!” Hoshiko spoke up, stepping forward with her eyes now narrowed at the people at the door. Carlisle wasn’t alone; next to him on either side stood Emmett and Jasper.

Not noticing the sudden tension, Chiyo quickly turned her head to look at her youngest daughter. “Hoshiko… Where have you been? I’ve been worried sick!”

Yet before she could approach her daughter, Carlisle grabbed her arm and pulled her closer to him. “Mrs Tanaka, please stay where you are.”

As Carlisle pulled Chiyo behind him, Jasper stepped forward, eyes focused on Mitsuko as she stood in front of her sister. “Mitsuko, please come here.”

“No.” She refused, “She’s not going to hurt me!”

“Suki…” She turned to face her younger sister, who was looking at her with a deeply pained expression. “You should go stand with them.”

Mitsuko took a moment to look at her sister, really look at her. Alongside the pained expression on her face, Mitsuko realised that Hoshiko was gripping the bannister of the stairs so strongly that she was nearly snapping the wood in half.

Suddenly she found her body becoming stiff and beginning to move without her trying, turning around and walking towards where Jasper and Emmett were standing. As she got closer to them, she felt a cold hand softly wrap around her wrist before pulling her the rest of the way. Now she found herself hidden behind Jasper, who was standing protectively between her and her little sister.

“Will someone tell me what is happening?” Chiyo exclaimed as she looked rapidly between her two daughters in concern.

"I'm afraid we can't tell you…" Carlisle responded cryptically, "But it's imperative your daughters come with us right now."

Instead, she forcefully pointed at the doctor, something she usually only did to her daughters when they were in trouble. “No, they’re not going anywhere until you tell me what is going on.”

“I’m a vampire now, aren’t I?” Hoshiko suddenly questioned, causing everyone’s attention to shift towards her again. “I’ve read Dracula before; I’m not stupid.”

Mitsuko noticed her mom become quiet at Hoshiko’s question, her body stock still at the mention of vampires. Yet before she could ask her, she was interrupted when Carlisle spoke up again, “Mrs Tanaka I really must insist that your daughters come with us right now.”

“But it’s four in the morning!” She spoke again, gesturing to herself as a way to emphasise that she was currently only in a nightgown.

“Listen, we need to get her out of here before a certain group finds Hoshiko here.” Jasper spoke with authority, speaking to them all as if they were officers in the army. “So get dressed if you have to, but we need to leave now.”

This was how Mitsuko found herself sitting in the back of Carlisle Cullen’s car, Jasper next to her as a way to separate the two sisters, something she still didn’t understand was necessary.

Within ten minutes they were already pulling up in front of the Cullens’ woodland house. Outside stood the rest of the Cullen family; they were in a uniformed line and clearly on guard.

When Mitsuko stepped out, she was quickly accosted by Alice and Emilie, who pulled her between them and held her firmly in place. Jasper followed, now standing behind her, creating a protective triangle.

“Why’d you bring her? She’s just a stupid human.” Rosalie had muttered quietly, yet despite being on the other side of the semicircle, Mitsuko heard her crystal clear and bristled slightly.

“Hey!” She couldn’t help but yell at the blonde, whose eyes widened slightly in surprise, “There’s no need to be rude!”

“How did you—“ “Rosalie.” Carlisle interrupted before she could finish her question, “Not now; we have something more important to discuss.”

At that moment, Hoshiko finally stepped out of the car but stayed stock still in front of it. Her eyes flittered between each person with a cold, calculated look in a way Mitsuko had seen her do countless times, usually when she felt trapped.

“We’re not here to hurt you,” Edward spoke up, seemingly reading her distress. “We just want to know what happened.”

Yet before Hoshiko could even begin to explain, Edward’s face changed, and he spoke again, “She found the army.”

“In Seattle?”

“Someone turned her, but she didn’t see who; the only person in her memories I recognise is Riley Biers.”

“What do you mean by her memories?” Mitsuko spoke up again, “Matter of fact, nothing you’re saying is making any sense. Can someone please explain?”

“Hoshiko is right,” Carlisle began to explain. “She has been turned into a vampire, just like my family and I.”

Pause.

“You’re saying my sister is a vampire now?” She asked, “Like from Buffy?”

“We’re way cooler than that.” Emmett spoke with a grin, earning a small slap on the back of his head from Rosalie.

“Right… But wait,” she continued, giving Emmett a small smile before continuing, “Was I attacked by a vampire that night?”

She tried to ignore how Jasper stiffened behind her at the mention of that night and moved to take his hand into hers, providing a comfort she instinctively wanted to give.

“You saw Riley that night, didn’t you?” Edward asked her, but it was clear he already knew the answer.

“Yeah, he seemed… different, angrier. I don’t think he even fully recognised me.”

“He's a newborn, still within his first year,” Carlisle began to explain. “He wouldn’t have been in full control of himself.”

Her face furrowed in thought as she tried to remember that night; in all the fury and violence, there was one thing that was clear: Riley’s teeth sinking into her neck. So she asked the question, “Does everyone that gets bitten turn into a vampire?”

“To my knowledge, yes.”

That made Mitsuko pause in thought, nervously wetting her lips before speaking, Then why didn’t I?”

At her question, she noticed how Carlisle glanced from her to Jasper with an indecipherable expression before looking back to her, answering honestly, “We don’t know yet.”

Turning around, she narrowed her eyes in suspicion as she analysed the expression on Jasper’s face, which seemed to be intentionally as neutral as possible. They weren’t telling her something.

So after letting out a small huff, she pulled her hand away from his own and began to walk away back towards her sister. She only made it one step before a strong pair of arms reached out and pulled her backwards into his solid form.

“That’s a bad idea, darling,” Jasper's voice drawled in her right ear, “You’re going to be good and stay right by me.”

She tried not to let his words affect her; after all, this was neither the time nor the place. She didn’t try hard enough.

“I was just…” Mitsuko trailed off awkwardly as she made eye contact with Emmett, who began waggling his eyebrows suggestively.

Now embarrassed, she tried to pull away again, to which Jasper tightened his grip. It wasn’t enough to hurt her, but it was enough for Mitsuko to fully understand just how strong he was.

So strong. She wondered what else he could do with those hands.

Despite her best efforts, all her mind could think about now was possibilities, like how possible would it be for Jasper to use those hands the right way if Mitsuko begged sweetly enough? Maybe she could get him to put his hands on her-

On the other side of the group, Edward began to choke on thin air. Mitusko thought it almost sounded like he was gagging. The others simply ignored the boy's struggling.

"Is he okay?" She asked which was simply answered with a collective laugh from the family.

As the laughter died down, Carlisle explained once more, "Edward can read minds."

"Oh…" If her cheeks could get any redder, she looked severely sunburnt.

“Unfortunately”, Edward spoke up from where he had finished fake gagging.

“He’s just being dramatic,” Alice spoke up, trying to comfort Mitsuko. “I’m sure what you were thinking wasn’t that bad.”

Edward started gagging again.

“Will you stop that, Edward?” Rosalie yelled at her adoptive brother, “God, you are always so fucking annoying.”

“Hello, teenage vampire going through a crisis here.” Hoshiko waved to the group, causing them to quieten down. “Could we please get back on topic?”

Mitsuko blinked to rewire her brain. “Sorry, you’re right.” She spoke, turning to Carlisle once more, “What exactly is the plan here?”

Before he spoke this time, Carlisle turned to Esme, waiting for her to nod and then stepping forward, “We’re willing to offer you a place in our family. You’d stay with us and learn to control your lust for blood, but we would expect you to follow our diet.”

She tilted her head in confusion, “What’s that?”

“We don’t drink human blood and hunt animals instead.” He clarified.

“I’m okay with that,” She agreed immediately, a haunted look appearing on her face. “The things I saw when I first woke up… well, I’d rather not talk about it.”

“We’ve all been in similar situations, Hoshiko; we understand,” Esme spoke, stepping forward, only turning back to reassure Carlisle, who had instinctually reached out to pull her back. Walking forwards until she was in front of Hoshiko, “In time, if you like, we can talk about it together.”

If she could cry, the younger Tanaka would have tears brimming in her eyes, “That would be nice.”

Ever the maternal figure, Esme didn’t hesitate before pulling Hoshiko into her arms and hugging her with nearly all her strength. The fledgling vampire could have sworn her now-diamond skin creaked from how hard she was hugging her, yet she could not help but lean in further into the embrace.

Still standing in Jasper’s arms, Mitsuko couldn’t help as the tears flowed; they were both her own and on behalf of her sister. She felt a jumble of emotions in that moment: sadness, confusion, relief and happiness. Yet as seconds went by, she felt an overwhelming sense of calm through her, and clarity hit her. Turning around one more time, she looked intently into Jasper’s golden eyes.

“It’s been you the whole time, hasn’t it?”

Jasper seemed hesitant to explain, “I can control people’s emotions, but I’ve only ever used it on you as a way to calm you.”

“I’m not mad.” She responded instantly, leaning further into him, “But could you ask me for permission next time?”

“Oh,” he said, surprised by her response, “Of course, if that’s what you want me to do.”

Mitsuko nodded before turning back to look at her sister as her small smile drooped into a frown. Jasper stepped around and looked at her from the side. “What’s wrong?”

“Will I ever be able to be near my sister again?” She whispered to him in hopes he would be the only one to hear.

Yet it seemed since she was in the know about vampires, the Cullens had decided to drop all pretences. From the complete other side of the large circle the group had formed, Edward decided to speak up, “It might be for the best.”

“What kind of suggestion is that?” She yelled out once more, stepping forward; this time Jasper decided to let her go. “She’s my sister; you can’t just expect me to abandon her!”

“She’s a newborn,” Edward hissed at her as he stepped forward. “She’s at the strongest but most uncontrollable she will be as a vampire.”

Yet, Mitsuko wasn’t one to be pushed around, so she stepped closer. “We’re sisters; we’d never hurt each other.”

“It would take much; it wouldn’t even have to be on purpose.” Edward pushed closer, now fully encroaching on her space. “I mean, it wouldn’t even take me a second to kill you. Think what a newborn at full strength could do.”

Within a millisecond, Jasper was at Mitsuko's side, pulling her behind him as he growled furiously at Edward, “Who do you think you’re threatening?”

At the same time, Hoshiko yelled out, “Back away from my sister, arsehole!”

He stood his ground for a moment longer before the rapidly darkening look on Jasper’s face made him back away, but not before speaking again. “She needs to understand how dangerous this is.”

“I think she’s already well aware of that.” The blonde spoke in a dangerously measured tone, “Or are you forgetting what she’s already been through?”

Feeling overshadowed in the conversation, Mitsuko leaned around Jasper slightly to emphasise, “Not that it’ll work anyway.” Before she was gently pushed back again.

Edward continued to stare at Jasper for a moment longer, his eyes flicking to Mitsuko behind him, to which she decided to flip him off. By this point it was clear that the tension would not be diffused by any three of them, so Carlisle stepped forward.

“That’s enough,” he spoke firmly, but his face remained soft. “We have larger issues at hand; I see no reason for Hoshiko and Mitsuko to spend time together so long as one of us supervises.”

“Carlisle”. Edward pushed back at his creator.

“We welcomed Bella with open arms into this family.” He responded instead, “ I expect you to do the same for Mitsuko.”

“You can just call me Suki!” She called out from behind Jasper again, earning a bewildered smile from Carlisle before he spoke again.

“I expect you to do the same for Suki.” The girl in question smiled widely at his correction.

It was a moment before Edward finally conceded with a forced, “Fine.” Before he turned around and ran deep into the woods.

“Where the hell is he going?” Hoshiko asked with a confused tone.

“Probably to visit Bella,” Esme explained, “He stays with her most nights.”

Once Jasper deemed Edward far enough away, he turned around and lifted Mitsuko’s chin up so she was looking at him. “Are you okay there, darling?”

She was awestruck by his touch; his presence was so overwhelming to her, but all she wanted to do was step closer and breathe him in. Instead, her body shook from the cold, and she let out a small yawn. After sighing slightly at the fact she ruined a potential moment, she spoke, her voice quiet and clearly drained, “Tired.”

Jasper smiled again. She’d liked it when he smiled, especially when he smiled at her. God, she was tired.

“Yeah, I think we should get you home.” He spoke, reaching forward to place his hand against her forehead, and Mitsuko leaned forward into his freezing touch instantly.

“You’re so cold,” she shivered, yet before he pulled away, she reached forward and grabbed his hand. “No, no, no, it’s nice... you feel so nice."

Before she could run her mouth anymore, Jasper wrapped his arms around her before hoisting her up and carrying her back towards the silver car. "Right, let's get you in the car."

"M'kay," she said as she burrowed further into his chest and closed her eyes, sleep quickly taking over.

Carefully, Jasper opened the door to the car and was able to settle her in the front passenger seat. After making sure she was buckled in and draping his jacket over her sleeping form, he took his place in the driver's seat.

Before he could pull away, though, a knock on the window caused him to turn and come face to face with Hoshiko’s suspicious glare. With a neutral expression, Jasper rolled down the window and simply stared.

“I need you to promise me something,” she said firmly, before her face softened, “Take care of my sister.”

He answered without hesitation, “Always.”

Fireworks | Y/N x Ahkmenrah

Fireworks | Y/N X Ahkmenrah

Masterlist British!Reader is feeling homesick without celebrating Bonfire night. After confiding in Ahkmenrah, he seeks help from the others to make sure they don't miss out on their favourite holiday (WC: 2334) AN: I wrote this in basically a day so apologies if it's not super polished.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Y/N had been working as a night guard for the museum of natural history for a little over six months now. They’d moved to New York from the UK a year ago to attend NYU studying archeology. So when they were desperate for money and they found out the local museum had an open position, they happily took it.

The job did take some adjusting, especially when on their first night they came face to face with a moving t-rex skeleton, but thankfully, with the help of Larry and the other exhibits, they slowly became apart of their mismatched family.

It was notable that over the last six months Y/N had grown closest to Ahkmenrah. Not only due to their closeness in age but also their shared interest in history. Most nights Y/N could be found walking with Ahkmenrah, either listening to his stories or catching him up on recent history.

It was now November, Halloween had just passed, and Y/N was feeling unusually more homesick than usual. Instead of listening emotively to Ahkmenrah’s stories, they simply hummed in acknowledgement. They’re so caught up in their homesick melancholy that they fails to notice that he’s stopped speaking.

"Y/N, are you alright?” He nudged them gently as he asked. “You seem distant this evening?”

"Sorry, it’s silly, really.”

"Are you sure? You don't seem alright," he says quietly, his crystal eyes watching them. "You never ignore me."

“Oh Ahkmen, I’m so sorry!” Their face suddenly filled with emotion. “I didn’t mean to ignore you.”

He shook his head at their apologies and stepped forward to hold their hand. "No, it’s fine, Y/N, but what’s wrong?”

“I’m just missing the UK this time of year.”

Ahkmenrah's eyes soften as he takes their hand. "I understand. It is okay to miss your home." He says quietly. He looks up at them, and he can tell that the homesickness that they’re feeling is a very heavy thing.

He gently squeezes their hand. "Do you talk to your family back in England?" He gives a thoughtful glance before looking back up at them.

“It’s not that; I spoke to them just this morning, but..." Y/N pauses for a moment before continuing, “I kinda miss the fireworks.”

His brows furrow slightly in confusion. “Fireworks?”

“Every year in the UK we set off fireworks and make bonfires on the Fifth of November.” They begin to explain, “We call it Bonfire or Guy Fawkes night.”

The confusion is now replaced with wide-eyed curiosity; his eyes sparkle with interest as he speaks, “That sounds wonderful, so you celebrate with fireworks?”

Y/N nodded, happy with Akhmenrah’s genuine interest. “Um yeah, it’s a way to commemorate when Guy Fawkes failed to blow up parliament in 1605.”

Ahkmenrah raises his eyebrows. He seems more intrigued than ever at this point. "A failed attack on a government.. so you celebrate?" he says, almost in awe at the idea. "How exciting!"

“Yeah, although like most holidays we mainly use it as an excuse to get stinking drunk.” They laughed quietly at their own joke, “But my parents and I used to always go see a fireworks show every year.”

“Did you do anything else?” He asked, still curious, to which Y/N’s asked sparkled before they spoke. The two then spent the rest of the night talking about different traditions and foods that bonfire night often had. They also discussed different holidays Akhmenrah would celebrate during his life in Ancient Egypt.

Eventually, the sun began to rise and the two had to part, but not before Y/N escorted him back to his tomb. “I’ll see you tonight, Akhmen.”

“See you tonight, Y/N.” He replied, but he looked as if he wanted to keep talking, making Y/N confused, but they didn’t have time to reply as the sarcophagus closed and the tablet glowed once more.

Y/N sighed before gently tapping on the sarcophagus and whispered the one thing they could never say during the night, “I love you...” before stepping away and heading back home.

The next night, Larry greeted them with a favour: "Listen, could you just keep an eye on the minis tonight? They’ve been whispering, and I got a feeling they're planning something.”

“Sure, no worries.” They ended up spending their whole night with Jedediah and Octavius. Y/N took them to the projection room and let them pick any movies to watch; they ended up picking The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

By the time Sunrise was close, they had only just finished the second film, and with a promise to watch the third movie, the two let Y/N carry them back to their exhibits. Once they had finished closing their assigned exhibits, Y/N made their way to the museum lobby.

As they walked down the stairs, Y/N paused as they spotted Ahkmenrah and Larry talking in hushed tones and looked at something on Larry’s laptop. The two hadn’t noticed Y/N as they slowly walked closer to the two.

“What are you boys whispering about?” They asked, causing the two men to jump slightly at the sudden voice. Larry quickly shut the laptop, looking incredibly awkward at being caught.

“Ah, Y/N. We were just... discussing some work stuff. Nothing important.” The older nightguard spoke rapidly, not sounding convincing at all. He glanced at the young pharaoh to back him up, who proceeded to nod while smiling a bit too widely.

“Uh Huh…” Y/N spoke with their arms crossed, clearly not believing them. “You guys are keeping something from me, and I’m gonna find out, but it’s close to sunrise, so it can wait.”

Ahkmenrah squirms a little under thier scrutinising gaze. Larry, still looking sheepish, scratches the back of his neck. "Right. Yes. Sunrise." He agrees quickly. "Everything can wait." After a moment, he nudges Ahkmenrah, who hasn't spoken yet.

The Egyptian Pharaoh coughs and composes himself quickly. "Yes, yes. Sunrise," he said as his face went back to the usual cool and calm look.

Y/N smiled at the Ahkmenrah fondly before gently grabbing his arm and saying, “Come on, I’ll get you settled back in your room.”

Ahkmenrah doesn't look so tense anymore after seeing their smile. Once they grab his arm, he lets out a quiet breath and relaxes a little. "Thank you," he mumbles under his breath and lets Y/N lead him back to his exhibit.

As they led him, Y/N started to talk. There's no specific topic to their rambling, but it helps distract Akhmenrah from the inevitability that soon he’ll be in the sarcophagus once again. When they arrive in front of his exhibit, Y/N feels him tense next to them and gently guides him towards the sarcophagus.

“It’s okay, we’ll be right here for you when you wake up,” they try to comfort him as he lowers himself into his tomb.

He lays down in his sarcophagus and gives them a small nod, a silent thank you. "I trust that you will," he murmurs as his chest rises and falls with calm breaths.

As Y/N looks at him, their mind runs on autopilot and, without thinking, reaches down and places a soft kiss on his forehead. Realising what they’ve done, Y/N pulls away wide-eyed, "Sorry, I don’t know why I did that.”

Ahkmenrah is still stunned for a moment, his face red. "I-" he stutters slightly, trying to organise his thoughts. "No, it's alright," he manages, his voice trembling a little from the unexpected gesture.

Before they could reply, they spotted the tablet begin to slowly glow. With a sigh, they turned back to Ahkmenrah and said, "Sorry, it’s sunrise; I need to close this.”

Ahkmenrah reluctantly nods, his face still a little flustered from the kiss. The tablet's glow grows brighter as the sun rises. "Yes, of course," he mumbles, his voice slightly hushed.

He takes a deep breath before speaking again, trying to hide the hint of disappointment in his voice. "I'll see you tonight then."

“See you tonight.” With that, Y/N pushed the sarcophagus closed and waited until the glowing ended before heading home. As they walked down New York Street, Y/N couldn’t help but wonder exactly what Larry and Ahkmenrah were whispering about; they made a mental note to ask on their next shift.

Yet when they arrived the next evening, Y/N was confused to find the main lobby entirely empty, even despite the fact they’d arrived over thirty minutes late.

“Hello?” They called out as their voice echoed around the museum, “Where is everyone?”

Still no response, causing Y/N to sigh slightly. Suddenly the sounds of footsteps approaching caused them to tense as possibility spread through their head, What if there thrives in the museum? What if they’d stolen the tablet?

As the footsteps grew closer, Y/N hid behind the desk while clutching their torch like a weapon, ready to strike. They heard the person stop in front of the desk, causing Y/N to jump up and swing. Only to be stopped by an outstretched hand and a loud voice yelling their name.

“Atilla?” Y/N’s eyes were wide as they realised who they’d nearly attacked. “I’m sorry, I thought you were an intruder.”

He replied in Hun and a small pat on their left shoulder to indicate no harm was done before holding his hand out. Y/N took his hand and allowed him to take them to the new planetarium that had been built a month ago. They stood outside for a moment before the doors swung open.

Y/N gasped as they saw how the room was decorated with various streamers and balloons and spotted the rest of the museum happily partying with each other.  Everyone is having a great time, and the room is filled with music and laughter. Larry, among the others, is near the centre holding up a drink. He sees you and waves.

"Ah, Y/N!" Larry calls out. "There you are! Was starting to worry you weren't coming." He gestures to the surroundings. "What do you think? Pretty neat, huh?”

They approach him slowly, still taking in the surroundings. “Larry? What on earth is going on?”

“We’re celebrating bonfire night!” He exclaimed excitedly while handing them a drink, “I think we got most of it right but added our own American twist, you know?”

“How did you even know about this?” Y/N asked, to which Larry simply pointed to a corner where they could see Ahkmenrah talking to Sacagawea and Teddy.

They left Larry at the bar with a polite wave and made their way over to the trio. Ahkmenrah’s eyes instantly locked onto them when he saw them approaching. “Y/N! You finally made it!”

“Did you do all this for me?” They asked while smiling brightly.

"Yes! Yes, I did," he replies enthusiastically. "Larry and the others helped, of course. But I wanted tonight to be special for you."

His eyes sparkle as he looks at you, happy to see your reaction to his efforts. "Do you like it?"

“Like it?” Y/N began while looking around again in wonder, "Ahkmen, I love it!”

“You do?” He asked, to which Y/N nodded, "Well, there’s more to come still; in fact, it should be starting in just a minute.”

“What’s starting?”

Instead, he grabbed their hand and led them to a specific spot. “It’s a surprise, but follow me; I know the perfect spot to watch.”

Before Y/N could ask another question, the main lights dimmed, leaving them in darkness. They looked up as the constellations began to move, gently dancing for a moment before one of them exploded into a dazzling display of colours.

Y/N’s eyes widened in recognition before they looked at Ahkmenrah and whispered, “Fireworks...”

“Larry said we couldn’t get real ones, but I thought this would be a good alternative.” He explained, watching as they smiled brightly, their face illuminated by the beautiful light show.

Feeling incredibly proud, he takes Y/N’s hand and stands beside them, watching the animated sky with them. "I'm glad you're enjoying it." He mumbled quietly and squeezed their hand.

Y/N continued to watch the fireworks, but as the display neared its end, they turned toward the young pharaoh. “Could I do something a little crazy?”

Ahkmenrah tilts his head a little and smiles, intrigued and curious about their question. "Of course, Y/N, what is it?"

Instead of answering, Y/N slowly reached a hand out to caress his cheek. They looked into his eyes for a moment before reaching forward and gently placing their lips on his. Ahkmenrah freezes for a moment, stunned by their action, but then he slowly blinks and closes his eyes.

In the dim light of the planetarium, he gently returns the kiss, his lips moving gently against theirs. After a moment, he hesitantly wraps his arms around them to pull them closer, his fingers lightly tracing along their back.

The two only pull away once a cacophony of cheers and clapping surrounds them. Y/N quickly hides their blushing face in Ahkmenrah's chest when they turn and see all their friends congratulating them for finally taking the next step.

Y/N feels his chest move as he chuckles softly before pulling them closer. “Thank you, my friends, but I think we should get back to the party.”

With his kind but commanding words, the rest of them quickly began to party once more, but not without a suggestive whistle from a certain cowboy.

They pull away from his chest slightly before speaking, “Thank you, Ahkmen, for all of this.”

"I wanted to make this special for you, and it was worth the wait," he says softly and gives their forehead a light kiss. “Shall we get back to the party?”

“Lead the way.” Y/N replied, allowing him to lead them by the waist to join their friends on the dance floor.

In that moment, finally being with the person they cared about most as their friends danced around them, Y/N realised they hadn’t thought of home once. Even if for a moment, Akhmenrah had healed their homesickness, and they couldn’t be happioer.

Chapter 7. Gossip

Back to Masterlist

In which Spencer gets roped into watching Twilight Chapter Title: Gossip by Maneskin

Hotch had forced her to go leave for two weeks after her shoulder injury, something she found completely unnecessary. She’s remembers how her protests fell on the deaf.

“I’m telling you sir I’m fine, it’s basically a surface wound.” She’d tried to downplay, hiding her wince when the stitchings pulled slightly.

“Federov it was a clean gun shot through your right shoulder, the EMTs said you were lucky I didn’t hit a major artery.”

“But-“ Hana began to argue before the unit chief cut her off.

“Go home and get some rest that’s an order.”

“Okay Dad.” She’d had meant to mutter it under her breath but it was still loud enough for Hotch to hear.

“Fedorov”

“Right sorry I’m leaving.”

Now the young agent found herself lying on her apartment couch watching some trashy reality tv, while numb on pain medication. She was in the middle of laughing was an argument started between the main cast on screen when there was a knock on the door.

She grimaced as she slowly stood up and made her way over to the door and opened it find a familiar face.

“Lila!” She exclaimed to her friend, “What are you doing here?”

Her friend smiled brightly before stepping into the apartment holding a large bag. “I’m here to keep you company, what didn’t you tell me you got shot.”

“Im sorry I just didn’t want anyone to worry about me.” She answered as she moved back to the couch.

“You mean you didn’t want any pity?” Lila replied, leaving Hana speechless. “I know it’s how you were raised but you need to understand that it’s okay for you get help from people.”

“I know.” Hana begrudgingly accepted, “What did you bring?”

“Well usually I’d bring drinks from the club but I don’t know what kinda meds they’ve got you on, so I hope you like herbal teas and shitty snacks.”

“Aww what would I do without you?” Hana smiled brightly as she sat back down on the couch, “Oh and I forgot to say thank you for those shots the other night, the team was very happy.”

“Of course I always take care of my favourite patrons.” Lila said causing Hana to laugh as she shuffled to side to allow her friend to join her on the couch.

The two friends sat next to each for most of the day, eating the snacks and had decided to binge a movie Lila had also told Hana to watch. She thought it was okay but was getting frustrated at the inaccuracy when it came to vampire mythology; causing a friendly debate between the pair.

“You’re thinking about things too carefully!”

“No I’m not,” Hana argued back to her friend, “there’s not practical reason for vampires to sparkle, also why can they see their reflection. At this point they’re more like superhuman cannibals than vampires.”

“It’s a cheesy romance movie, it’s meant to be accurate.”

“Well why direct it so seriously.”

“Shut up and watch the movie.” Her friend responded, followed swiftly by her smacking Hana in the face with a couch cushion.

They watch the rest of the movie with minimal jibes from Hana about the inaccuracies, and were about the watch the second one until there was another knock on the door. The agent was about to rise from the couch but was swiftly stopped by Lila.

“Stop right there, you are injured and shouldn’t move, I’ll get the door.” She chastised as she walked towards the apartment door.

“It’s my arm not my leg.” Hana responded, “I can move, I just hurts.”

“Yeah sure.” Hana’s friend laughed before swinging the door open. “Who are you?”

The man at the door seemed surprised to see Lila, he cleared his throat before answering, “Hi, I’m Doctor Spencer Reid with the BAU is Hana in?”

“She is.” Lila smirked before opening the door wider to let him in, “Hana you have a guest.”

“Who?” The dark brunette asked and lifting her head up to see who’s there; her smile instantly widened. “Spencer! What are you doing here?”

“I was sent to give some information,” he started, “but I also wanted to check on you.”

“Awww how sweet.” Lila spoke suggestively to her friend. In response Hana waved her hand to shoe her away to the kitchen, her friend put her hands up in surrender but still did as she’d asked.

Once her friend had left the room, she turned back to Spencer and gestured him to set next her on the couch. Surprisingly comfortable in an unfamiliar place, he walked in and swiftly took a seat next to the young agent.

“What do you need to tell me?” She’d asked once he was comfortable.

Spencer took a deep breath before continuing, “Giuseppe Montolo is dead.”

“What?”

“It was during Morgan’s interview today, he uh.” He stopped and swallowed hard, suddenly uncomfortable, causing Hana to reach out with her good hand.

“It’s okay you can tell me.” She soothed, unconsciously stroking his hand.

Spencer nodded, “He started choking and died in the interview room, they think it was poison.”

“Did he mention anything useful beforehand?”

“Apparently the dirty dozen isn’t a group of people on a hit-list, it’s just one thing.”

She hummed in understanding, “But we don’t know what that thing is?”

“Yeah.” He answered, and hesitated again before continuing, “Do you know what it is?”

“No, it wasn’t a thing when I was active.”

“Just thought I check.”

“Sorry I was a dead end.”, She joked.

At Hana’s word he straightened on the couch and turned his body to face her, “No, you’re not a dead end at all, I didn’t come to only get information from you. I figured you should be told in person, I mean you did know him.”

“Spencer it’s fine I was only joking.” She soothed him, stroking his hand against in small circles, “Do wanna stay and watch a weird vampire movie?”

“Actually, I’m on leave to for little bit,”

“Oh why?” She asked with minor head tilt.

“Well I’m flying to Vegas on Friday to visit my mom for the week.”

“Oh really? I’m sure she’ll be happy to see you.”

At Hana’s words Spencer seemed to withdraw slightly and had a small unsure smile on his face, “I hope so.”

“Why wouldn’t she be?” She then realised that question was probably a bit to personal and quickly backtracked with a quiet, “I mean if you feel comfortable tolling about it.”

“No, I mean I don’t mind,” He reassured before continuing, “My Mom has Schizophrenia and she currently in a care facility but the doctor’s say she’s not doing too well, so I’ve took a sabbatical for a few days to go see her.”

“Well that’s very good of you,” she smiled warmly at him, “and I know she doesn’t know me but send her my love when you go.”

“I’m sure she’ll appreciate it.” He laughed slightly before chasing the topic, “So what’s the movie called?”

“Well you’ve missed the first one but we’re gonna watch second one which is called…” Hana trailed off, she turned her head towards to shout at her friend, “Lila what’s this movie called?”

In response, Lila made her way back into the living room carrying two bowls of popcorn, “New Moon, is the good doctor joining us?” She asked winking at Hana.

Hana glared at her friend to stop her from speaking, Lila simply smirked back at Hana in teasing. She’d told all her friends about the drunken kiss that her and Spencer had shared, but she’d also sworn them to secrecy; especially when it came to Spencer.

The man himself spoke causing the two friends to look away from their silent conversation, “I hope you don’t mind, Hana asked if I wanted to stay and I’ve actually been given the day off.”

“Yeah don’t worry it’s fine.” Lila replied as she sat down the armchair to let Hana and Spencer share the couch. “Have you ever seen Twilight?”

“Honestly no, although it has been recommended in the past so I know the general premise.’

Pleased with his answer Lila pressed play and the movie started. The three watched the movie quietly until they got a scene in the meadow where the main characters were lying in the sunlight, at this point Spencer spoke up.

“I thought he was vampire,” he began, “He shouldn’t be able to be in the sunlight.”

This caused Lila to groan, “Not you too, both of you just watch the movie.”

Spencer apologised quietly, and Hana shuffled closer to whisper in his ear. “Sorry about that Lila doesn’t like commentary with movies, if you want you can just tell me if you have something to say.”

And so as they watch the movie, she enjoyed how every now and then he leaned in to whisper a random fact. At one point he whispered a fact so unbelievable  Hana couldn’t help but laugh during a very serious scene, causing Lila to shush them as she watched the TV in interest.

Each time Spencer would lean over Hana would shuffle just a little bit closer, but after doing this so many times, once the movie had finished and the third one had started Hana was casually leaning into Spencer’s arm that had wrapped around her shoulders.

She turned to Spencer suddenly aware of their close proximity, “You sure you’re good to stay so late?”

“Well it’s only four right now so, yeah I’m okay for another few hours.”

“Good” She smiled at him, before passing him the bowl of popcorn. In return, Spencer took a handful of popcorn from the bowl while smiling back at her. The pair turned back to the screen and chuckled softly as something funny happened in the movie.

As the film continued, Hana felt her head grow heavy and out of reflex titled her head down so it rested on the good doctor’s shoulder, “Is this okay?”

Jerking slightly at her question, the doctor looked at her before replying, “Oh yeah, it’s okay.” He then relaxed further by fully wrapping his arm around her and pulling her sightly closer.

Hana stayed comfortably in the same position through the remaining movies left in the series, enjoying each time Spencer continuously whispered in her ear. Out the corner of her eye she noticed Lila glancing over towards the two and smirking before looking back at the T.V. Opting to simply ignore her friend’s teasing glances, she missed how every now and then Spencer would glance down at Hana to make sure she was still comfortable, smiling softly and then look back to the screen.

Hana also failed to notice that every time she laughed at something on screen, Spencer would follow suit with a fond chuckle. It was strange how close the pair had become despite only knowing each other for two months but they seemed to just click, and were already so comfortable with each other’s presence.

By the time they’d finished the entire movie series with small breaks in between, it was already half eleven at night and Hana was exhausted. Lila was packing up her stuff and heading to the door.

“Hey are you going to be okay by yourself tonight,” She’d asked her friend before she left, “I know Sasha’s out of town and I don’t think I’m comfortable leaving you alone.”

“I can stay if you want?” Spencer spoke up looking between the two women, causing Lila to smirk again. “Make sure you’re not in pain through the night?”

Hana stop still in surprise at how willing Spencer was to stay over for her; to make sure she was okay. “Yeah,” She spoke once she gotten over her shock, “You can stay as long as you want, I can see if I’ve got anything for you to wear.”

“If the good doctor’s staying then I’m gonna head out,” Lila moved to hug her friend, “Love you Hana and take care.”

“Thanks, Lila Love you too.” And with that she closed her apartment door behind her friend and turned back towards Spencer who was clearing the living room for her.

“You have to do this you know?” She spoke up causing Spencer to turn to her.

“Do what?”

“You know…” She paused before continuing, “Look after me, I’m not completely inept.”

“I know but you are injured,” He began “Just going to make sure you’re not in too much pain through the night.”

She was about to reply in thanks but she was cut off when a yawn was forced through her body, “God, I am so fucking tired.”

“Yeah? I can finish up if you want to go rest.”

“Thanks, but lemme grab something for you to wear.” With that she moved into her room, and opened to her bottom drawers where her most recent ex had left some lounge clothes. Pulling a set out she nodded in assurance that they should fit Spencer before gathering them in her arms and heading back out her room. While she found the living room empty she moved towards the kitchen where she found Spencer washing the glasses and bowl the three had used.

“Hey,” She called to gain his attention, which she did when he turned towards her while still rinsing the last bowl. “I found some clothes you can use.”

“Really? Thanks.” He actually sounded appreciative when he took the small clothes pile.

“I do have another room but it’s my roommate’s and it be weird you sleeping there without me asking, would you be fine taking the couch, it’s pretty comfy.”

“Don’t worry I’m sure I’ll be fine, thank you though.” Spencer replied giving her a small smile.

“Well I’m gonna head to bed,” Hana spoke as she made her way to her room, “Goodnight and thanks  again.”

“Goodnight and you’re welcome.” She smiled widely at him before shutting her door, she then rushed to the bathroom and splashed cold water on herself. She need to get a hold of herself.

Chapter 2. Nim

Back to Masterlist

An Elven Princess awakens and Jaskier handles it surprisingly well.

Her eyes were golden, not the bright and strong eyes of Witchers, they were soft and seemed more natural. For a moment, all Jaskier could do was stare into her eyes, still shocked by what had just happened moments prior. It wasn't until she began to speak that he was able to snap out of his shock.

'Shi Va? Sharti nha salen o'su?"

She was speaking in an ancient form of elder speech that Jaskier only had limited understanding of, leaving him unsure on how to respond. Seemingly noticing his confusion the young elf tilted her head slightly, before holding her hand out in front of her while muttering.

"Yewl tel'quiet van shou."

Somehow Jaskier was able to understand her request and placed his hand on hers, allowing her to gently clutch it. She then began to utter more of the ancient language, it appeared to be some type of spell as He felt the familiar warm ripple of magic flow from his palm through his whole body. He noticed a brief glow within her golden eyes as she finished the spell and released his hand.

"Apologies, I hope you can understand me now?" She suddenly spoke in perfect common speech.

"What just happened? He asked in amazement, "How did you do that?"

She smiled softly before replying, "It's a simple spell really. It allows me to learn whatever language the person I'm touching uses most."

"Never heard of that spell before."

"Really?" She tilted her head again in confusion, "Even the most beginner mages in the kingdom can do that spell."

It was in that moment, as she stared at him in curiosity, she noticed he was different than the average elf. Most notably she noticed his ears which seemed to curve at the top rather than pointing upwards like hers did.

"Who are you? Your ears are very peculiar."

"You may call me Jaskier, Travelling Bard." He replied paired with his standard performer's bow. "I'm a human, so my ears aren't pointed like yours."

"What is human?"

"Well it’s another species, very different from elves."

"But we don't look that different?" She queried further.

"Well others would say otherwise." Jaskier muttered with a slightly bitter laugh.

After his little remark there was a small pause as she took in this new information, before she softly nodded her head in understanding.

"I see, well it’s nice to meet you Jaskier my name is Nim, daughter of King Faladinn of Muire Dol."

"So that's what this place is called?" He questioned as he took another glace around the hidden room.

"Yes," Nim confirmed as her eyes began to show a deeper understanding of the situation, she took a deep breath before asking, "I'm not sure how long I've been sleeping but it must have been quite a long time, correct?"

"I believe so Princess, at least over a thousand years I can say for certain."

With a small sad smile she replied, "I don't think I'm really a princess anymore."

"Well you have a crown and a palace, which to my knowledge are the main requirements for being a princess." Jaskier winked and grinned brightly at Nim, who began to laugh in response.

Sitting up, Nim adjusted herself to the edge of the platform previously covered by the glass casing. Slowly she stepped down and attempted to stand, only to stumble forward. Before she was close to hitting the floor, Jaskier quickly reached forward and caught her by her arms.

"Are you okay?" He asked, pulling her up while giving her a once over and making sure to hold her firmly.

"Yeah, just been a while since I've stood I suppose."

"Just take your time, I hold onto you as long as you need me to."

While gently holding onto Jaskier, Nim slowly made her way out of the mausoleum. As they made their way through the servant's quarters and into the main halls of the palace, Nim stared in awe. She had never seen the palace halls so empty before; so quiet.

Everything was so raw for her, even though she had slept for over a thousand years it only felt like an overnight sleep. She remembers everything, remembers the panic throughout the castle as she was pulled from the throne room and down into the cold, dark mausoleum. She remembers being told to lie down and the next moment she opened her eyes to a face with a pair of soft periwinkle eyes.

"I think if we're going to travel together we'll need to find you a change of clothes," Jaskier spoke, interrupting her thoughts. "That is of course if you'd like to join me, I didn't mean to presume.

For a moment in panic, he slightly loosened his grip on Nim. He shouldn't have presumed like that, She was a princess why would she want to travel with him? Thoughts of self-doubt and rejection filled his mind. Yet, in response she gripped his arm tighter and pulled him closer.

"Of course I want to travel with you." She smiled at him reassuringly, "I still need to figure out why I was asleep for so long and what happened to everyone, I don't think I'll find answers here."

At Nim's words Jaskier began to relax, "Right, well princess shall we find a change of clothes for you my dear?"

"There should be something in my room, I can lead the way."

Walking through the palace halls and up a few flights of stairs, they soon came across a single white arched door at the end of an empty corridor. As they approached Jaskier noticed an intricate circular, stain glass window that appeared to look out onto a small courtyard.

"This is my room, I specifically requested the flowers to be painted on." Nim said as she pointed at the blue and yellow flowers scattered across the white surface connected by several green vines. "They're supposed to be bluebells and buttercups."

"Really? Buttercups are my favourite flower, of all time."

"Bluebells are mine." Nim mused as she reached forward and turned the golden handle before pushing the door open to reveal her room behind it.

The room is exactly how you'd picture a elven princess' room to look like. Across the wall and ceiling were gorgeous murals depicting several constellations and the night sky. Her bed laid at the centre of the back wall, it was made out of pure white wood which had been delicately carved with various flowers as well as depictions of the sun, moon, and several constellations. Laid across her bed were soft midnight blue sheets to match the equally blue pillows placed along the headboard.

Jaskier let out a low whistle at the sight, "Oh what I would I pay to sleep in a place like this. No seriously I give up music- actually no I wouldn't but still you get my point."

"Let me pack a bag and we can get some rest before we leave" Nim suggested, "To be honest I'm suddenly feeling quite tired myself and it's nightfall now." She then walked towards a large wardrobe by the eastern wall, it was made from the same white wood and had similar etchings. When Nim opened it wide, Jaskier saw a gorgeous collection of colourful and fine fabrics.

Nim began to pulling various fabrics from the wardrobe and laid them gently on the bed. Finally, she turned back to the wardrobe and reached deep into the back before pulling a simple grey travel bag. She moved back to the bed and began stuffing the different fabrics and clothing into it. Jaskier was pleased to noticed she had also packed a scarf and fur outer coat for the colder weather they may face.

"That should be everything, we should probably go rest for the night." Nim stated, before moving back to the wardrobe and pulling out what Jaskier presumed were some night clothing. "This was my brother's, I think it will fit you."

Jaskier took it gratefully, "Just tell me where I can go princess, perhaps you could show me the room."

Nim then looked down and fiddled with her hands before speaking softly, "Is it okay if you stay with me? I don't mind sharing the bed, It's big enough."

"Are you sure?"

"I don't want to be alone again." She stated plainly.

"Okay, then let me get changed and we can both get some rest." Jaskier then moves behind one of the elegant changing screens and changed into the silk, green sleeping wear. It was the most comfortable thing Jaskier had worn in years.

When he came back from behind the screen, he noticed that Nim had also changed behind the second screen and was already lying on the left side of the bed. Jaskier followed suit and tuck himself into the right side of the bed, it was then Jaskier noticed that Nim was right. There was plenty of space, in fact Jaskier was sure that even if he stretched his arm out, he still wouldn't come close to Nim. Nim blew out the light that was surprisingly still lit on her bedside table, leaving them in darkness.

"Goodnight Jaskier, thank you for waking me up." Nim muttered into the darkness.

"Goodnight Nim," Jaskier replied in kind, "I should say thank you for letting me sleep in this bed, feels like it’s made of cloud."

They both laughed softly at his little quip, before they both drifted of to sleep, anticipating what's to come on their journey ahead.

Chapter 3. Deadly Party Crasher

She tried not to think about Riley as much anymore. It had been a month, and the majority for the police had declared it a dead end; only Charlie was still investigating. Mitsuko wished he’d come back, but she knew the chance of that was slim now, and so she tried her best to move on.

Throwing herself into graduation planning and work, she did anything to distract herself. Mitsuko was elated to be finally graduating; as much as she loved her friends, she was excited to have the freedom that high school never gave her. The ceremony was amazing; she smiled brightly as she and her friends threw their caps in the air as several parents took pictures.

Once she’d gone home, she enjoyed a little celebratory meal with her mom and sister. After dinner, she spent some time with Hoshiko, who helped her get ready for the afterparty. She pulled a white blouse with puffy long sleeves from her closet. Pausing for a moment in thought, she turned back to her closet and pulled out a pink corset that had gold and pearl detailing.

After dressing, she allowed Hoshiko to do her makeup. It was similar to her everyday look, but her sister added some extra shimmer to her eye makeup and highlights. While her makeup was done, she braided half of her hair up and tied it in place. Just as she finished getting ready, she got a text from Jess saying her dad was on his way to pick her up. She stood up and checked herself in the mirror one last time before making her way downstairs.

"You look beautiful!" her mom exclaimed as she made her way downstairs. "Do you have everything you need?"

"Yes, Mom, don't worry; I'll be fine." She reassured her that ever since she learnt about Riley, their mother had been hyperprotective of her two daughters. After sharing a quick goodbye, she ran outside where the car was waiting for her.

Now she found herself drinking from a red plastic cup as music blasted through the Cullens’ woodland house. Although Mitsuko thought that ‘house’ was an understatement, she’d spent some time just wandering around, and while she didn’t go into any of the rooms, she was blown away at the amount of doors alone.

She sighed as one particular Cullen popped into her mind. She hadn’t yet seen Jasper, but she knew he was here; at least he said he would be. Mitsuko presumed he was out on the balcony since she'd seen the rest of the Cullens head that way.

“SUKI!” Jessica yelled towards Mitsuko, breaking her from her thoughts, “COME OVER! MIKE MADE US SHOTS!”

She smiled towards her friend and quickly made her way over, face clear with surprise at the suspiciously neon green shots in front of her. “Mike, what the hell did you make?”

“I actually don’t know, but it does have tequila in…”

“Who cares?” Lauren butted in as she grabbed a glass, “If it’s tequila, I’m drinking.”

The group cheered and followed her lead, each grabbing a glass before clinking the glasses together and each taking a shot. Mitsuko quickly downed her drink, gagging slightly at the strength and sourness of the shot, and then giggled as she watched her friends do the same.

“Mike, what the fuck was that?” Jessica asked her boyfriend, still gagging from the shot. “My throat is burning.”

“Yeah, I think you just gave us pure ethanol.”

“Well, at least my sinuses’ are cleared now.” Angela added, trying to be positive. “Wait, there’s Bella!”

Mitsuko followed behind her friends as they approached the brunette; they each hugged her, which allowed Mitsuko to slide in at the end and pull her into a tight embrace. “Happy graduation, Bella; glad to see you here.”

“Thanks, Suki…” Bella whispered in reply, giving her friend a genuine smile when they pulled away.

“So where’s your boyfriend?” She asked, raising her eyebrow suggestively, earning a mock punch from her friend. Before her friend could reply, Jessica jumped forward to speak to Bella.

“Hey. What did you think of my speech? Too easy-breezy, too self-helpful? You may admit it.”

“No, you pretty much nailed it.” Bella complimented her friend, creating a large smile on Jess’ face.

“Yeah? It's like I was born to lead, right?”

A song began to play, which got Angela's attention. She lit up before turning to her friends, “Oh, great. I love this song; let's go.”

Mitsuko was about to follow her friends, but she noticed Bella hadn’t moved. “You coming, Bella?”

“In a sec, I just need to talk to someone.” Mitsuko noticed her looking at the door where Jacob and two other boys had just entered. She nodded to Bella in understanding before making her way to the dance floor.

Angela pulled her close into a mini group hug with Jessica, all three spinning around together to the music. She danced for a while, sipping on a drink that Mike had passed her. As much as she enjoyed hanging around her friends, she hadn’t seen the Cullens at all, even Jasper, despite his promise.

“I need some air; I’m gonna head outside for a minute.” She turned to Angela, who looked at her in slight concern and offered to come with her, which she had graciously declined.

Mitsuko pushed her way through the crowd and eventually made her way to the front entrance. Stepping outside, she breathed a sigh of relief as she stood by the tree line. “I should probably check on Hoshi,” she murmured to herself before pulling her phone out of her little white bag.

Just as she was about to hit the call button, she heard a strange rustle come from deep within the forest; at first she ignored it, looking back to her phone. Yet, the rustling persisted alongside the strangest whispering as if a voice was calling her name. She didn’t know what came over her, but she found herself walking deeper into the woods in an almost trance-like state.

She continued walking until she found herself in a large clearing and quickly turned her head as a twig snapped, revealing a familiar figure standing on the other side of the clearing.

“Riley?” Mitsuko called out to him as she began to step forward, “Everyone’s been worried sick. Where have you been?”

“Don’t lie. No one’s even missed me,” he answered her, suddenly standing right in front of her.

“What are you talking about? Of course we have... She trailed off as she looked into his eyes, “Are you wearing contacts?”

“It doesn’t matter; you weren’t supposed to be here.” Riley ignored her question, “But she won’t be happy if I leave a witness.”

“Riley, what are you talking about?” Mitsuko was feeling afraid now, unsure if she’d be able to run in her current state. “You’re starting to scare me a bit, Riley.”

“I’m sorry for what’s about to happen.” His face changed into a snarl as he suddenly lunged towards her.

Elsewhere, a few minutes later…

Jasper rolled his eyes discreetly as he was forced to feel the tension between his brother and the young shifter. It was exhausting having to deal with teenage hormones on a regular basis, let alone the heightened hormones of two supernatural boys. He inhaled sharply in annoyance, eyes widening at the overwhelming scent that hit him. Blood and lots of it.

“HELP ME!” A shout got the attention of everyone on the balcony, looking down, spotting Mike Newton running from the woods, cradling something, Jessica running just as quickly behind him. “SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE!”

The group quickly made their way down and outside, where a crowd was forming around the Newton boy. Although some of his family opted to stay back as the metallic smell of blood grew stronger the closer they got. Jasper followed closely behind Carlisle, who was making his way through the crowd.

Once the crowd parted, he froze at the bloody sight. Mike was holding Mitsuko in his arms, her body and hair almost unrecognisable from the sheer amount of blood.

“What happened?” Carlisle asked as Mike placed the girl on the ground. Jasper stepping forward and kneeling by her head.

The southern blonde heard Edward whisper a sharp, “Jasper, stay back.” But he ignored it; Mitsuko was someone he cared about; her blood wasn’t affecting him as he was too concerned with her well-being.

“I don’t know; some kind of animal attacked her; me and Jess heard a scream, and we just found her on the ground bleeding.” The young boy explained, trying to hold back tears at his friend’s condition. “She’s conscious, I think, but she’s not responding.”

“Honey, could you go grab the first aid kit?” Carlisle called to Esme, who moved back inside the house. She reappeared quickly, able to use her vampire speed since everyone was distracted outside. He thanked her gently before tearing the box open and pulling the gloves on.

As her began to clean the wounds, the young girl began to stir, muttering something, “Riley… don’t…” Jasper heard her mutter, as did his family, indicated by the sudden feeling of tension that spread through them all. It was at this moment that Carlisle wiped her neck clean and discovered a distinctive bite mark on her left side.

“Why isn’t she in pain?” Jasper quietly whispered to Carlisle so no human could hear; he was hyperfocused on her emotions as he was sending the young woman wave after wave of calm.

“I’m not sure, but she needs medical attention...” The other vampire whispered in reply, and he continued to take care of the young human.

Alongside her bite, she had several scratches and cuts across her body as if she’d been thrown around. What concerned Jasper most was the damage Riley was able to inflict without any of them becoming aware.

The ambulance drove rapidly down the drive of the Cullens house before the paramedics raced out with the gurney. The crowd parted once again as they approached the injured woman. Recognising the doctor, the older paramedic spoke to Carlisle as the other began to place Mitsuko on the gurney, “Dr. Cullen, how is she?”

“She lost a lot of blood before. I’ve wrapped a lot of the major wounds; she’ll need a transfusion for sure.” He explained as he followed them towards the ambulance, “What I’m most concerned about is the possible internal bleeding.”

“Understood. We’ll get to the hospital as quickly as possible,” the paramedic replied as they lifted the gurney into the back. “You wanna ride with us, doctor?”

“Yes, if that’s all right.” Carlisle agreed as the paramedic nodded and allowed him into the back of the ambulance.

As the ambulance raced back down the road, Jasper followed it with narrowed eyes. Everyone else had begun to rush toward Mike, who was drenched in Mitsuko's blood and clearly traumatised. Yet, despite the continuous commotion, the southern vampire’s thoughts remained solely on the young girl that lay in the ambulance.

‘Why didn’t the venom affect her?’ These were thoughts that crossed his mind as he moved his stare toward the puddle of blood she’d left behind, but another thought appeared in his mind, instilling curiosity and a small amount of dread: ‘Was she immune?’
