Pair: Ben Plunkett x fem!reader
Description: When Y/N and Ben entered senior year, they were optimistic. For Y/N, it was one last year to survive and then she was free. But for Ben, this was his last opportunity to make a name for himself. His goals were clear; get accepted into any college, ask his dream girl to prom, and become prom king. Y/N's goals weren't so simple, considering the only person she could see herself going to prom with is head over heels for LaToya Reynolds. Y/N is seemingly forgotten once Ben prom-poses to LaToya and can't seem to get a moment of his time anymore. When prom rolls around, Ben and Y/N are forced to confront the new space between them.

"Breathe in...breathe out..." Y/N held her breath in sync with the audio. She was currently going for the record for the longest headache held in 24 hours. She had tried everything. Hydrating, taking a nap, taking a shower, and now, meditation. It was her mother who had sparked the throbbing pain pounding against her cranium. Of course, Y/N had brought this upon herself in a way. Telling her mother, who was prom queen back in her day, that she no longer wanted to attend the prom was her first mistake. Her second mistake was not sprinting out of the house the minute those words fell from her lips. Even if she had somehow escaped the conversation, she had no where to go. Her best friend, whom she had been avoiding most desperately, wasn't someone she could talk to anymore. Not since the prom-posal. Since Ben Plunkett, the man she had been pining after since they were 13, had asked LaToya Reynolds, the woman he'd been pining after since they were 14, to prom, she had become a ghost to him. Not a single text was returned until at least 3 days after it was sent, no more midnight phone calls, no more snack runs, no more bookstore, movies, waffles, and no more death star.
Something shifted the last time they spoke. It was a quick phone call, curt and nothing special. It was a Friday night, he was apologizing for ditching their plans. It was a tradition they had, the bookstore-movies-waffles thing they did every Friday night. Even before either of them could drive or knew anything about quality cinema. It was theirs and only theirs until it wasn't. His apology was absentminded and rushed, she could hear LaToya in the background telling him to hurry up. The call ended after about 2 minutes, cutting her protests short and gripping her in the stomach with a sharp pain she didn't recognize. After that night, Ben made no effort to return her calls or even talk to her in school. He sat with the Everests and waited on LaToya hand and foot. She wasn't sure what hurt more, the fact that she lost her best friend or that he didn't even seem upset about it. She was torn apart, throat becoming bone-dry every time she saw them together, her heart racing in her ears from both frustration and embarrassment.
Her mother had insisted that she reconsider her decision but Y/N stood firm. Even Mandy begged her to go with her and Graham but there was no swaying her. She was sick at the idea of attending prom or being anywhere near Ben or anyone else for that matter. So here she was, the night before prom, with no dress, no date, and no appetite. She chewed her lips and willed the headache away (or prayed to be put out of her misery). When she and Ben were younger, they would talk about how they were on the same wavelength. That somehow their thoughts were linked, telepathically or spiritually. They knew when one needed the other. Now, Y/N was sure that idea was nothing but a childish notion. She turned her head to the side to examine her bedroom, littered with memories and moments she wanted so badly to go back to. She stood up and felt lightheaded from a combination of crying and basically not moving all day. It was the last Friday she had before graduation next week and she was spending it reminiscing.
She walked over to her nightstand where there stood a gigantic Lego Death Star, unfinished. She and Ben had planned on finishing it before the school year ended. She picked it up carefully and took in every detail, it had taken them the last year to get as close as they were now. They had decided not to glue the pieces down in case they ever wanted to start over, she smiled down at their efforts and, just for a second, allowed herself to miss Ben. That's when she heard her doorbell ring, her mother was always very quick to invite her friends over and allow them to grace her daughter with their sage advice which often consisted of them telling Y/N how much she was breaking her mother's heart over a seemingly meaningless argument or difference in opinion. She heard the creak of the stairs, placing the death star back on her nightstand and moving to open the door. Ben beat her to it and slowly popped his head into the room. The silence was deafening.
Ben walked fully into the room and shut the door behind him. The lump in her throat was impossible to swallow, anything she had to say to him was gone now. So he cleared his throat and decided he would start. "I'm sorry." He chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of his neck. "I probably should've called. I just..." Y/N maintained eye contact, begging him to make this right. "This is weird right?" She nodded and patted the bed, urging him to sit next to her. He trudged over and sat down, sighing. "I know...I fucked up." There's a pause, a comfortable silence. "I don't why but...I broke it off with LaToya." She finally met his eyes. "You did what? Why? What happened?" He opened his mouth to speak but no words came out. "Is she okay?" He nodded, avoiding eye contact. "She took it surprisingly well. In her words she 'saw it coming' and that I 'needed to see you.' She's actually pretty great." Her face became red, she didn't know what to say or how to react. "But the whole time I was with her, something was so off." I held a bubble in my mouth. "She had hot breath? Bad kisser? Glass eye?" He finally laughed. "Not exactly. Everything about her was great." She swallowed the lump in her throat.
"So what was it?" He finally turned to her, fully facing her and smiling like a dork. "Guess." He said softly. It was then that Y/N realized just how close they were. "Did she...have bad taste in music?" The air was buzzing, something was pulling them towards each other. "No." His hands were clammy. He had known immediately what LaToya meant when she said that he needed to Y/N. Every date, every kiss, he was somewhere else. His heart wasn't in it, not because of LaToya, but because of Y/N. But how could he be so stupid? He finally had exactly what he wanted, the girl he'd been infatuated with for years, and he couldn't have been more unhappy. "Did she...chew with her mouth open?" Ben shook his head and smiled knowingly. "Not really." He replied, coming to the conclusion that she wasn't gonna get it. Little did he know, she had butterflies from the anticipation. She wanted desperately for him to tell her why he was here with her rather than with LaToya. LaToya knew why, she had known about a week into dating Ben. The reason they weren't together was because of her. LaToya wasn't mad, she wasn't upset, she was understanding, which only made Ben feel like a bigger dick for not giving her what she deserved.
"I give up. Tell me. What was it?" He wiped his hands on his pants and looked nervous. "She wasn't you." He said, voice shaky. Y/N stayed quiet, but a smile played on her lips. "What?" Her face was on fire, she wasn't sure how to speak anymore. Ben wasn't sure what to say next. They sat there in silence, a weight in the room, a pressure for someone to do something, say something. Ben wanted so badly for her to respond or react in some way, even if it was negative. Y/N felt nervousness fill her chest. "She didn't make me laugh, or make me nervous. There was no... spark. Do you ever-" He cut himself off by rubbing his eyes in frustration. He was struggling to express what he had felt, what words could he use? "I thought I knew what I wanted." Y/N was seeing stars. Ben was wringing his hands in concern. Never, in any conversation they'd ever had, had she been so quiet. "Do you?" She finally spoke, "Know what you want?" All they could do was look at each other. All it took was one look to his lips from Y/N and Ben crumbled.
His hand held her cheek, leaning in to place a sweet, short kiss on her lips. When their lips connected, Y/N remembered the first time she had held his hand. They had decided to go see a horror movie with a murderous clown and cheap jump scares. One jump scare in specific got her and, out of fear (and maybe something else), she had grabbed Ben's wrist to ground herself. She recalled how he laughed at her and grabbed her hand, locking fingers with hers. For him, it was probably nothing. But for her, it was the start of something so much more. Although the the interaction was short, Ben had always wondered about that night in the theater. Did she mean to grab him? His thoughts always raced when he thought about their little touches like that. When she laughed, she'd lean against him and grab his arm (he made sure to make her laugh every chance he got). When she was bored, she'd lean her head against his shoulder or wrap her arms around his neck. Until this moment, he always figured her touches were strictly platonic. He never thought about the possibility that there was more behind each look. Her lips tasted like cotton candy against his. When he felt her return the kiss, his lips curled into a smile.
Though the kiss was short, their palms were sweaty and heads were spinning. As Ben parted from the kiss, he was stuck in place and grinning like an idiot. Y/N couldn't look at him, he looked so goofy. She burst into laughter and laid her head on his chest, trying her best to suppress her fits of snorts. Ben fell back on the bed in bliss, there was no overthinking this part. He quickly got up and grabbed his backpack. Y/N looked at him, red from the laughs and head pounding from a mix of blush and shock. He unzipped his bag and pulled out a piece of paper and a red marker. He placed the paper on her desk and began to write. "What are you doing?" Ben always had random moments of genius, but he considered this to be his best idea yet. When he was done scribbling away on his paper, he held up on display for Y/N to read. There, in red ink, read the word 'Prom?' in bold letters with little red hearts all around it. She examined the paper and beamed, "Yes..." Ben fisted pumped the air and tackled her in a hug, slamming them both onto her bed. "Wait!" Y/N quickly sat up in the bed. "What?" The boy shot up next to her. "What am I gonna wear?" Just then, her mother barged in with a puffy pink and purple dress, perfect for the 80's theme, and a cheesy smile on her face. "Already covered!!"

Summary:
You and Wally experience your first group with the other ghosts and get some answers to some questions you have until you are interrupted by people setting up for the homecoming dance.
âAh you found us. Welcome to the Split River High afterlife support group. Have a seat and letâs get started.â Mr Martin said eagerly. You and Wally sit in the middle of the circle, Rhonda on one side, Janet the next side. âOk so who would like to start- âYeah I doâ Wally says interrupting Mr Martin. âSo, we are all dead, but we can still do things that we used to be able to do but people canât see or hear us, and we canât leave this place?âÂ
âYes. We donât exactly know why we are stuck here letâs just call it the âin betweenâ but we are. I have been here for 25 years and still havenât worked it out Iâm afraid.â Mr Martin explains as you and Wally sit and stare blankly at him neither of you not knowing how to respond to that. You are about to ask another question when Janet chimes in âIâve been here for 23 years, I fell down a flight of stairs and broke my neck. Mr Martin was already here.â Stunned is all you can think about. These people or should I say ghosts have been trapped in this school for 25 years not knowing why you canât leave is crazy. âHow did you die?â Rhonda asks looking directly at you. Before you can say anything another ghostsâ chimes in. âare you guys dating? You have the same jacket on and died the same day makes sense if you were together when you died.â The ghost next to Janet not revealing his name but you could tell he died during the drug phase of the 70s just by looking at him.
âActually, Wally and I are best friends. Our moms are also best friends, and we were born five days apart. Wally gave me his old varsity jacket when the team upgraded in sophomore year, and I wear it to all of his games.â You say trying not to share too much about you and Wallyâs friendship. âAs for how we died, Wally got tackled really badly by the other team and his neck snapped and I got hit by a car that was speeding in the parking lot.â You share with the group. âWait thatâs how it happened? It happened so fast I didnât even feel it. That must have been scary to watch.â Wally says to you softly trying not to show his emotions to the group. Just as you were about to respond you are interrupted again but this time not from another ghost it was a bunch of people entering the gym getting decorations hung and placed around. âWhat is happening?â you ask turning around and seeing more people file into the gym. âIt was your homecoming yesterday, right? Well today is the dance.â Janet answers. âNo fucking way they are still having the dance after we died. Did we mean nothing to people at this school?â Wally yells before walking off and starts yelling at everyone in the gym. âIâll talk to him and try to get him to come- ââNo need Y/N group will finish early; they might not be able to see us, but they will get in our way.â Mr Martin says as he interrupts you.Â
Wally is pissed. Heâs still trying to get someone, anyoneâs attention but nothing. âWally, hey its ok letâs go talk somewhere.â You say ever so gently trying not to anger him anymore. Without saying another word, you see tears stream down his face as you embrace in a hug. You and Wally walk down the halls away from the others to talk. âIt might have been too late to cancel the dance, Wally. It cost a lot of money for the school, and it could have been just easier to continue on.â You say to Wally as he has finally calmed down. âYeah, I guess so. Man, Iâve been such an emotion wreak lately, havenât I? Talk about embarrassing.â Wally admits looking away. âHey, look at me Wally.â You say touching his chin to lift his gaze from of the floor and on to you. âDonât be sorry. We are going through a lot right now itâs understandable you will be emotional. I am too but we are not in this alone. We have the others who will help us. To answer the questions, we have. You arenât alone Wally. You will never be.â You say as you embrace in a tight hug. As you do you feel the butterflies again in your stomach that are only there when he embraces you. This crush is going to get more complicated now, but you still canât tell him yet. You donât want to risk your friendship and he needs a friend now more than a new relationship. Besides you wonder, he might not love me back in that way. âYou really know what to say when Iâm like this donât you Y/N I love you. What did I deserve to have a best friend like you?â He responds after you release from your hug. âI love you too Wally. Iâm lucky to call you my best friend. Now come on letâs go find one of the other ghosts and we can ask as many questions you have.â You say as you take Wallyâs hand and walk down the hall into the teachersâ lounge since thatâs where you figured they like to hang out.

Shapeshifter? - Milo Manheim
Chapter two
Summary: Milo and Auroras friendship is complicated. They act like they're together but both of them swear they're just friends. Well Aurora does. But things starts to change during the break before season 2
Playlist
Song rec - Friends by Ed Sheeran
The best mornings were the ones without alarms.
Aurora stretched lazily under the covers, savoring the warmth of her bed as sunlight filtered through the curtains. No early call times, no back-to-back interviewsâjust a full day off with her friends.
Her phone vibrated on the nightstand.
Kristian: Lobby in 20. Weâre getting coffee first before Bug turns into a menace.
Aurora snorted, typing back a quick rude before throwing on a cozy sweater, leggings, and her favorite sneakers. When she stepped into the elevator, she could already hear their voices echoing from the lobby.
The second she stepped out, Peyton threw an arm around her shoulders.
âLook who finally decided to show up.â
âI am literally two minutes late.â
Nick grinned. âAnd yet, Spencer was already debating leaving without you.â Aurora shot Spencer a glare. He just shrugged, arms crossed.
âLook, Bug, if I donât enforce some kind of schedule, these idiots will have us wandering aimlessly for hours.â
âI take offense to that,â Milo said, slinging an arm around Spencerâs shoulder. âI have great directional instincts.â
âYou got lost inside a mall last week,â Sarah reminded him, adjusting the camera strap around her neck.
Milo opened his mouth, paused, then huffed. â...That mall was big.â
The group collectively laughed as they stepped outside into the crisp autumn air. The streets were already bustlingâcommuters rushing to work, the smell of fresh pastries wafting from nearby cafĂ©s, a street musician strumming a guitar on the sidewalk.
âCoffee first,â Kiara announced, pulling her scarf tighter around her neck. âBug gets cranky without caffeine.â
âI do not,â Aurora argued.
Kristian and Rainbow exchanged looks. âYou definitely do.â
Aurora huffed. âYou guys are the worst.â
Milo grinned, bumping her shoulder. âAw, we tease âcause we love you, Bug.â
Aurora rolled her eyes. âLetâs just get coffee before I start throwing hands.â
The cafĂ© was warm and inviting, the scent of espresso filling the air. The group lined up at the counter, chatting casually. Aurora was already reaching for her phone to place her usual orderâ But before she could, Milo smoothly stepped forward.
âMedium iced vanilla latte, extra shot of espresso,â he said without hesitation, then gestured toward himself. âAnd a black coffee, two sugars.â
Aurora blinked.
The group immediately turned to look at her.
Kiara raised an eyebrow. âHe didnât even ask you.â
Milo just smirked. âDidnât have to.â
Aurora stared at him, a mix of amusement and suspicion. âHave I become that predictable?â
Milo turned toward her, his smirk deepening. âNot predictable, Bug. I just pay attention.â
She narrowed her eyes. âCreepy.â
Milo chuckled, handing her the drink when it was ready. âYou love me.â
Aurora took a slow, deliberate sip of her coffee. âAgain Mi, the Juryâs still out.â
Spencer groaned. âYou two flirt so much.â
âWeâve been saying this!â Sarah laughed
âWe are not flirting,â Aurora and Milo said in unison.
The entire group rolled their eyes.
Fueled by caffeine, the group ventured into the city, stopping in every store that caught their interest.
The first stop was the thrift store Aurora and Kiara immediately made it their mission to find the ugliest sweaters possible.
âThis one is atrocious,â Kiara announced, holding up a bright orange knit monstrosity with dancing reindeer.
Aurora cackled. âMilo. Try this on.â
Milo eyed the sweater warily. âThat looks like something my grandma would force me to wear.â
âExactly,â Aurora grinned, tossing it at him.
Meanwhile, Nick and Spencer were in a heated debate over a bedazzled jean jacket.
âYou cannot pull this off,â Nick argued.
Spencer deadpanned. âI have kids to think about.â
âYou donât have kids.â
âYou donât know that.â
The Next stop a record store.
Sarah, ever the photographer, was snapping photos of everyone.
She caught Milo flipping through vinyl, Peyton balancing a ridiculous stack of albums, and Rainbow dramatically posing next to an old jukebox.
Aurora found a vintage Fleetwood Mac record, running her fingers over the worn cover.
Milo peered over her shoulder. âClassic Bug. Old soul.â
Aurora smirked. âI like good music, sue me.â
Sarah snapped a candid shot of them before Aurora could protest.
And thenâ
Sephora.
Milo groaned the second Aurora grabbed his wrist.
âNo. Nope. Absolutely not.â
âOh, yes,â Aurora said, already dragging him inside.
The others followed, highly entertained.
âYouâre so dramatic,â Aurora teased, leading him toward the makeup displays.
Milo sighed. âI do not belong here.â
Aurora grinned. âOh, you do now.â
Before he could protest, she grabbed his hand and flipped it palm-up, swiping a deep red lipstick across the back.
Milo just stared. âDid you justââ
âYep.â
âUnbelievable.â Still, he didnât pull away as she tested a few more shades
âYou know they have paper swatches for this, right?â
She shrugged âwhereâs the fun in that?â
Milo smirked âso you just wanted an excuse to hold my hand?â
Aurora paused, Narrowing her eyes âdo you ever stop?â
He grinned. âNot when it comes to you.â
âYouâre so annoying.â
âItâs okay I know your game, Bug.â She rolled her eyes fighting the urge to shove him.
Rainbow, watching, started humming âUnwrittenâ.
Milo immediately joined in. âFEEL THE RAIN ON YOUR SKINââ
Spencer groaned. âI swear to god, you twoââ
It only got worse from there.
Milo and Rainbow started singing everything anyone said that reminded them of a song.
At one point, Peyton said, âWe should grab a drink after this,â and Milo immediately launched into âbartenderâ by akon
By the time they left, Miloâs hand was covered in makeup swatches, and Spencer looked one second away from putting them all in time-out.
A small group of fans spotted them on the street.
âMilo! Aurora!â
Milo lit up immediately, turning toward them with a grin. âHey, guys!âAurora stepped back, watching as he immediately pulled them in for hugs.
âYou guys having a good day?â he asked, voice warm and familiar, like he knew them.
A girl in a lavender sweater beamed. âThis just made it way better.â
âDâawww,â Milo cooed, ruffling her hair. âYou guys are too sweet.â
Aurora watched as he took selfies, signed things, andâof courseâkissed one girl on the cheek, making her squeal.
Aurora shook her head. âYouâre so ridiculous.â
Milo turned to her, still grinning. âHey, donât be jealous, Bug.â
One of the fans giggled. âYou guys are such cute friends.â
Milo smirked. âHear that? Weâre cute.â
Aurora groaned. âCome on, Loverboy.â
After hours of wandering through thrift shops, record stores, and makeup aisles, the group found themselves standing at a crosswalk, the neon lights of the city casting a warm glow over them.
âI refuse to let this day end without a drink,â Nick declared, stretching his arms over his head. âWe deserve a little celebration.â
Spencer checked his watch. âOne drink. Then we all get some actual sleep.â
Milo smirked. âLook at you, Dad Mode activated.â
Spencer just rolled his eyes. âSomeone has to be responsible.â
âDo they?â Peyton teased.
Sarah nudged Aurora. âWhat do you say, Bug? One drink?â
Aurora, still buzzing from the day, grinned. âLetâs do it.â
They ended up in a cozy little bar tucked between two towering buildings, the kind of place that wasnât too loud but still had a steady hum of conversation and low music playing in the background. Edison bulbs hung from the ceiling, casting a golden glow over the dark wooden bar top.
Milo leaned against the counter, flashing the bartender his usual easygoing smile. âAlright, whatâs everyone having?â
Orders started flying inâSpencer with his standard whiskey neat, Rainbow with a fruity cocktail, Kiara and Kristian opting for classic gin and tonics.
When it got to Aurora, she barely had time to open her mouth before Milo spoke up.
âSheâll have a spiced rum and coke.â
Aurora blinked. âOkay, seriously, how do you just know these things?â
Milo gave her a lazy grin. âLike I said earlierâI pay attention.â
Kiara smirked. âThatâs a little suspicious.â
Milo winked at Aurora. âMaybe Iâm just invested in Bugâs well-being.â
Aurora groaned. âYouâre insufferable.â
Milo lifted his glass. âAnd yet, youâre still here.â
Nick raised his drink. âAlright, to chaotic friendships, successful press tours, and not getting lost in a mall again.â Milo pointedly avoided eye contact. Glasses clinked, and for a moment, everything just felt easy. No cameras, no schedulesâjust them, laughing, reminiscing, and enjoying the simple comfort of being together.
At some point, Aurora and Peyton got distracted by a dog sitting outside the window.
âOh my god,â Payton gasped. âThat puppy is so cute.â
Aurora practically melted against the bar. âLook at his little face.â
Kristian sighed. âThatâs it. Weâre never leaving.â
Meanwhile, Milo and Rainbow were still turning every casual statement into a song.
Spencer, exhausted, pinched the bridge of his nose. âIf you two sing one more timeââ
Rainbow smirked. âOh no, guys, Spencerâs mad.â
Milo, without missing a beat, started singing âMadâ by Ne-Yo.
âSo both of us are Mad for nothing!â He sung
Spencer groaned.
By the time they finished their drinks, the group was just tipsy enough to be giggly but not enough to make getting back to the hotel a struggle.
Milo, ever the gentleman (or so he claimed), offered Aurora his arm as they stepped out into the chilly night air.
âShall we, Bug?â
Aurora rolled her eyes but took it anyway. âYou are so dramatic.â
Milo grinned. âAnd yet, weâre still best friends.â
She didnât respond.
But she also didnât let go.
Back at the hotel, the group split off to their respective rooms, exhausted but still buzzing from the day. Aurora sighed, kicking off her shoes as she stepped into her room, only to hear a knock at her door before she even had a chance to sit down.
She didnât even have to ask who it was.
With a knowing smirk, she swung the door open. âCouldnât survive five minutes without me?â
Milo leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, that familiar grin tugging at his lips. âBusted. What can I say? I need my daily dose of Bug time.â
Aurora rolled her eyes still took his hand to head to his room knowing heâd drag her there at some point eventually.
âAlso,â he added, flopping down dramatically onto his bed, âI figured we should probably eat before we pass out. Whatâs the move? Room service or takeout?â
Aurora stretched, glancing at the bedside clock. âRoom service takes forever. Takeout?â
Milo pulled out his phone, already scrolling. âOkay, what are we feeling? Pizza? Sushi? Burgers?â
Aurora flopped onto the bed beside him, peering at his screen. âMmm⊠Chinese?â
Milo smirked. âYou always go for Chinese.â
âBecause itâs elite.â
Milo chuckled. âFine, fine. Whatâs your order?â
Aurora didnât even get a chance to answer before Milo tapped on the screen.
âSesame chicken, extra sauce, fried rice, and an egg roll.â
She blinked. âOkay, you seriously need to stop memorizing my orders.â
Milo just wiggled his eyebrows. âAdmit it. Youâre impressed.â
Aurora grabbed a pillow and smacked him with it. âCreeped out is more like it.â
Milo laughed, shielding himself. âHey! Itâs not creepy! I just pay attention.â
âYeah, yeah,â Aurora muttered, but she was smiling.
They finished ordering, and while they waited, Milo rolled onto his side, propping himself up on one elbow.
âSo. Highlight of the day?â
Aurora thought for a moment. âProbably taking you into Sephora and using your hand as a makeup palette. That was very satisfying.â
Milo held up his hand, which still had faint traces of swatches. âYou ruined me.â
âOh, please. You liked it.â
Milo smirked. âI liked you holding my hand, sure.â
Aurora groaned, shoving his face away. âYou cannot be serious this late at night.â
Milo just grinned. âWhat about you? Favorite moment?
Milo exhaled, staring up at the ceiling for a second. Then he looked at her, softer this time. âHonestly? Probably when we met those fans. I love how excited they get. Makes all the crazy stuff worth it.â
Aurora smiled. âYou are kind of a golden retriever when it comes to them.â
Milo scoffed. âExcuse me?â
âYou justââ Aurora gestured vaguely at him. âYou love people. Like, really love them. You go all in, full hugs, cheek kisses, the whole thing. Itâs kinda cute.â
Milo wiggled his brows. âYou think Iâm cute?â
Aurora groaned. âI walked into that one.â
He chuckled, nudging her shoulder. âYou make it too easy, Bug.â
âAnd yes Mi, youâre cute.â
Before he could retaliate, a knock sounded at the door.
Milo hopped up. âFoodâs here!â
He grabbed the bags from the delivery guy and plopped back onto the bed, setting the containers between them.
They dug in immediately, Aurora stealing an egg roll from Miloâs container without hesitation.
Milo gasped, clutching his chest. âBetrayal.â
Aurora took a slow, exaggerated bite. âYou love me anyway.â
Milo rolled his eyes, but he was smiling.
They ate in comfortable silence for a few minutes, watching some random late-night TV show on the hotel screen. At some point, Aurora pulled a blanket over her lap, leaning against the headboard.
Milo nudged her knee with his. âTired?â
Aurora yawned, stretching. âA little. Itâs been a long day.â
Milo reached over, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. âWanna sleep?â
Aurora sighed. âMmm. But I should probably get back to my room.â
Milo didnât move, just watched her for a second before shaking his head. âNah. Just crash here.â
Aurora hesitated, glancing at him. âYou sure?â
Milo gave her a lazy grin. âYeah, Rora. I donât mind.â
Aurora rolled her eyes but settled deeper into the pillows.
Milo grabbed the remote, lowering the volume. âSleep well, bug.â
And for once, she didnât argue.
â
The soft light of morning filtered through the heavy curtains, casting a gentle glow over the room. Auroraâs eyes fluttered open, the warmth of the blanket surrounding her feeling comforting and familiar. She shifted slightly, but something didnât feel quite right.
It took her a moment to realize whyâthere was an arm wrapped securely around her waist.
Her first instinct was to freeze. But as her mind caught up with the situation, she slowly turned her head, heart skipping a beat as she realized why she felt so secure. Miloâs face was inches from hers, his head resting on the pillow next to hers. His arm was draped over her, his body tangled up with hers in a way that shouldâve felt awkward but instead felt completely natural.
Aurora's chest tightened for a moment.
But the warmth of Miloâs body next to hers was too comforting, too calming. She slowly breathed in, feeling his steady breaths against her cheek. He was sound asleep, his face relaxed, his lips barely parted in a peaceful expression that was a far cry from his usual playful, teasing grin. She felt the beat of his heart beneath her skin, their bodies still intertwined in a way that felt more intimate than anything theyâd shared before.
Her breath caught, and for a long moment, Aurora just laid there, her body still, trying to process everything without waking him. She could hear the soft rhythm of his breathing, the way his arm tightened around her waist every time she shifted slightly.
She should move. She should get up and slide out of his embrace. But the way his body held onto hers so effortlessly made it hard to pull away.
There was something about waking up like thisâso close, so tangled with himâthat felt different. There were no cameras, no fans, no schedule looming over them. Just this quiet morning, the weight of the world momentarily gone.
Aurora tried to adjust, but as she did, Milo groaned softly in his sleep, his grip tightening around her waist instinctively. His lips brushed against her hair, a soft exhale slipping from him.
Aurora couldnât help but smile at the softness of it all. She had never imagined waking up like this, not with Milo. They had their playful moments, their teasing banter, but thisâthis was different.
Her thoughts were interrupted when Milo shifted slightly, blinking sleepily as his eyes cracked open. For a brief moment, there was only silence.
Then his eyes met hers, still blurry with sleep, but a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. âMorning, Bug,â he murmured, his voice rough with sleep.
Auroraâs breath hitched, her heart racing even though she tried to remain casual. She swallowed, a slight blush creeping up her neck. âMorning,â she replied softly.
There was a beat of silence, just the two of them in this tiny bubble of quiet. Neither one moved to pull away. Neither one seemed to want to.
Finally, Milo blinked again, his voice teasing despite the grogginess. âSo⊠this is what it looks like when you actuallyfall asleep on me, huh?â
Aurora laughed softly, her fingers lightly grazing the back of his hand where it rested on her side. âOr maybe you just canât stay away from me?.â
Milo smirked. âUh-huh. Sure, Bug. Keep telling yourself that.âBut his tone was soft, his thumb gently brushing across her skin.
Aurora stared at him for a moment, and she could see itâthe way his eyes were a little more vulnerable than usual, the way he seemed more real, more present in a way that felt different from their usual back-and-forth.
For a moment, she felt the tension rise between them. A question hung in the air, unspoken but understood. Was this just a moment of vulnerability? A one-off slip-up, or was it something more?
But before she could say anything, Milo gently pulled her closer, as if he couldnât help himself. He tucked his face into her hair, his voice barely above a whisper.
âStay for a while, sâlast day Iâm gonna see you for at least a month,â he said, and for a fleeting moment, there was a quiet softness to him that Aurora wasnât sure how to handle.
She didnât answer right away. Instead, she let herself fall into the comfort of his arms, allowing the stillness of the morning to wash over her.

Part 28:
Summary: The ghosts explore the changed town of Split River and you and the others visit Lily who helps find where their families are. And you and the others decide to go to prom as a farewell before going separate ways.
You wonder around the streets of Split River everything has changed; I mean it has been 40 years things were bound to change. You make your way to Split River Mall per Charleyâs request to get different clothes. Though you werenât sure how you were to get them since your dead, is it considered shop lifting? Would people walk around and see floating clothes making them think they have gone crazy.Â
âHow is this even meant to work?â You pondered as everyone turned their attention to you. Understanding what you meant, Rhonda said. âMaybe it would be like it was when we were at school, we just pick up an object that we want and itâs only a copy, leaving the real one there.â âCanât hurt to try it out, and if we freak out a bunch of people, we just laugh about it.â Tommy adds laughing.  You all enter the Mall and imminently you can smell the waft of food coming from the nearby food court.Â
âI have an idea.â Wally perked up as you made your way in the direction of the food court. âHow about I try to pick some food up from someone, and if it leaves a copy or not. And we can also see if anyone freaks out.â He eyeballs a table full of teenagers, you recognised from school, and one of them happened to be the boy that broke Lilyâs heart at Homecoming. âBabe, get his food. If it doesnât work, I wanna see that kid freak out for what he did to Lily.â You shouted as Wally made, he way over to the table. He stands there for a minute, waiting to tell if any one of them would notice him. They donât so Wally grabs a bucket of fries from the table and sees it imminently on the table, Rhonda was right. It was just like in school, anything we grab is just a copy of what is in the living world. He makes his way back over to the group with a strut in his step being victorious grabbing the fries. âFries for my Honey.â He says nonchalantly holding the fries out. âIt worked, we can shop and get out of these clothes.â Charley beamed with ideas of what he could get.Â
âHow about we split up in groups, get some clothes and maybe one of those smart phones Dawn always had, so we can communicate with each other. Just because we are free from that place doesnât mean you guys are getting rid of me. Youâre stuck with me for life.â You say giggling at your own words. Rhonda puts her arm around you. âWe wouldnât have it any other way.â She gushed pulling you into a hug.Â
You all go your separate ways, agreeing to met back in the food court when you were done. You and Wally walked around trying to find the first store to go into. You donât recognize half the stores in the mall, when you were last in the mall there was about maybe 10 stores, now there seems like 100s. âWhat about this store for you?â he asks pointing towards Victoriaâs Secret. âOkay babe, I know how much you like their stuff considering itâs what I have on right now.â You wink entering the store leaving Wally speechless. âBaby, you coming? I need some help picking out some lingerie for you.â You said in a flirty tone. âFuck yeah baby, Iâm coming. We are going to find you something sexy that I will be stripping off you laterâ he purred making your stomach fill with butterflies. Even though you and him have been dating a while, he still gives you butterflies.Â
An hour or so later, You and Wally have finished shopping, finding all new clothes and beauty products. And you got the newest iPhone even though you had no clue on how to use it, something you hope Lily, Maddie, and Simon could help you with. You and Wally make your way to the foot court, where everyone else was already sitting and waiting. âFinally, you guys are here. We have been waiting for half an hour! What took you guys so long?â Janet asked as she ate a Big Mac from McDonalds. âWally dragged me into Victoriaâs Secret, he wanted to pick out some lingerie for me.â You admitted as blush washed over your cheeks. âGross.â Rhonda cringed. âWe all got phones like you said but we can only know the basics from watching others for years with their phones.â Quinn said as she held up her phone. âWe are defiantly going to need some help with these if we want to stay connected when we- âWally doesnât finish what heâs saying. Saying it out loud that we will eventually go our separate ways after spending decades with each other is hard. They are your family. Youâve known them longer than your actual families.Â
âWhat should we do now?â Yuri asks as he loops his arm around Charleyâs shoulders-when did that become a thing? â âWe were going to see our families though half of our families donât live here anymore.â Tommy added. âWhose family that we know for sure still live here?â Janet asked finishing off her meal. âWell, we all know my parentâs left town when I died, I donât know where they live. My sister lives here and Wallyâs Mom still lives here. Maybe we could ask Lily when we go there if she can look up if any more of your families are still in town.â You responded. âGood plan Y/N. What do we do with all this stuff?â Rhonda asks. You look around and see a luggage store. âThereâs a store over there with luggage we grab some bags and carry them with us until we can find somewhere more permanent.â You pointed out.
With luggage all packed you all make your way out of the mall and head to your sisterâs house. You have heard Lily mention in the past that she lives on Heart Lake Ave which is not far from the mall. Ten minutes later, you all stood in front of the house, letter box saying âThe Johnsonsâ and the car in the driveway that matched the car youâd see Lily drive. You tense up standing in the driveway, nervous to see your sister after so many years, even though she couldnât see you. Wally could sense you were nervous, so he wraps his arms around you and strokes your arm. âItâs okay baby, Iâm here for you.â he whispers into your ear and plants a kiss on your cheek.Â
Suddenly the door swings open and out walks Mary, Matthew and Lily who make their way over to the car. Lily stops in her tracks when she spots you at the end of the driveway. âMom, I actually just remembered that I have a history paper due tomorrow. You and Dad can go to the movies.â Lily shouts as she keeps looking back over to you and the others. âHoney, you need to get better at organizing, itâs your senior year.â Mary replies than pauses when she notices Lily constantly looking at the end of the driveway. âWhat are you staring at? She asks and she puts her purse in the car and her and Matthew make their way over to Lily. âNothing, I was just thinking about my history essay.â She remarked. Matthew pulls out his wallet. âHereâs some money so you can order a pizza. And no friends over please, you need to do your paper.â Matthew says handing Lily some money. âThanks guys, enjoy the movie.â Lily waves as her parents get in the car and down the road.Â
âAunt Y/N, Uncle Wally, youâre here!â She says excitedly. âUncle Wally, that has a good ring to it.â Wally says kissing your head. Lily leads you all into the house which you imminently see is filled with some things from your childhood. As the others make their way into the lounge room, you spot a framed photo of you, Wally, and Mary at Christmas one year. Tears instantly fall from your eyes as you take the photo of the wall, getting replaced by a copy. âHow did you do that?â Lily ponders looking at the framed photo in your hands and the same one on the wall. âWhatever we grab in our world is just a copy, leaving the real item untouched. Thatâs how we got all this stuff from the mall.â You explain, wiping the tears away. âThatâs so cool. Keep it, thatâs momâs favourite photo of you, guys.â She replied as you and her meet with the others on the living room.Â
âLily, we wanted to ask you something.â You say sitting next to the empty space Wally left for you. âWe wanted you to check if any more of our families still live here, or where they live?â Charley asked. âOh okay, easy. Iâll go grab my laptop.â She says as she runs upstairs. âShe has so many of your qualities Y/N, you and your sister must be so alike.â Janet pointed out. âYeah, Mary and I were inseparable. People always joked we were twins, despite the age gap.â You stated as Lily makes her way back down the stairs with her laptop.Â
âOkay. All I need is some names and I can do some internet stalking-â âYou what?â you all shout, making her confused. âIâm not actually stalking, itâs just what it called when you look up other people online.â She replies and you all give a sigh of relief. You tell Lily names of who she should look up and she begins typing away on her laptop.Â
âOk that was easier than I thought. Janet, you have some cousins who lives in Kansas City. Rhonda, I found you younger sister and her kids that live in Minneapolis. Tommy, your brother lives in Denver with his wife and children. Charley, your parents live in Albuquerque and your sister lives in Phoenix. Yuri, your brother lives in Sacramento and your sister lives in Malibu. Quinn, all your family live in Detroit. Uncle Wally, you know your mom still lives here, but she sold your old place and lives in Sheer oaks apartments. And Aunt Y/N as you know, grandma and grandpa moved when you died, they now live in Milwaukee.â Lily finishes listing of all the places our families live. Adding âIâll print addresses for you.âÂ
âThank you, Lily, I know I speak for everyone when we say this, we really appreciate it.â You responded. âOf course, Iâm happy to do it.â she said gleefully. âCan you also help us with these phones? We got them to communicate with each other.â Charley asks. âUh yeah if I can teach my grandparents, I can teach a bunch of ghosts who some have been dead for 60 years. I mean how hard could it be?â she responds optimistic. She was, however, wrong. Turns out teaching a ghosts, how to use current technology was harder than she thought. An hour later and Lily has successfully taught us all on how to use smart phones. âThat was way worse than teaching my grandparents, I thought you said you knew some basics?â Lily stated, exhausted. âWe thought we did, guess not.â Janet replied, not lifting her eyes from her phone screen.Â
âThanks again Lily for your help, we should get going, we need to find somewhere to crash tonight.â Rhonda said as she stands up and makes her way over to her suitcase. âOh, I know where you can crash. Mom and Dad just finished renovating a property on Walker Street. Thereâs furniture and everything you can stay there; it doesnât go on the market until next week. I can take you over there nowâ Lily responded. âOh, but first, Aunt Y/N I have to show you my prom dress, I just got picked up.â Lily beamed, running back upstairs.Â
âI forgot about Prom.â Tommy stated. âI have an idea.â you said, attention on you. âHow about we all go to prom, kind of like a farewell for now party, before we all split up and leave.â âThat actually sounds really good baby.â Wally replied as Lily made her way back downstairs with the dress.Â
âI picked out a style of dress that Mom said you would have loved.â Lily said showing of the dress on the coat hanger. The dress was baby pink with spaghetti straps and down the skirt of the dress was a glitter ombre trail. Mary was right I do love the dress. âLily, you are going to look beautiful. We all just decided that we are going to prom to as a farewell to each other.â You gushed as you ran the material of her dress through your hands.
You all leave Lilyâs house and make your way over to the property she told you about. Making your way in the house, you all dump your belongings and find a place to crash, not that you needed to, but you have kept the habit of it for so long, it felt natural. You and Wally find a bedroom to sleep in. âHave I told you lately how much I love you?â Wally cooed as you and him crash onto the bed. âYeah baby, you have, but I love hearing it.â You reply giving him a kiss. âWell, I want to show you how much I really do.â He purred as his hand found its way onto your breast. âBabe, not here. What about the others? You know I canât be quiet.â You try to say serious but a giggle escapes from your lips. âOkay, fine. But at prom Iâm going to take you to our spot for the last time.â He whines not getting his way tonight. âI look forward to it babe.â You promised giving him a soft kiss on the lips.
