Study routine// Ben Plunkett x fem!reader.
Summary: exams are on the corner, you and your best friend Ben have an excuse to spend more time together, just to study, right? Right???
Exam time was a bittersweet time for you. Many looked at you strangely when you said it, considering that for others, it was a time that was simply... bitter. But not everyone could understand that for you. This time meant something more. Those were the only weeks where you could spend the whole day locked in your room with Ben Plunkett. Usually, his visits to your house were accompanied by "keep the door open", "it's time to say goodbye, show Ben out the door" or embarrassing interactions between your mother and Ben where they always ended up making fun of you. But during exam time, your parents would let Ben spend the whole day in your room, with the door closed and no distractions. The good grades that followed the end of the school year had reassured your parents, and besides, you couldn't think of a better study partner.
You were going home straight from high school, taking the long way home so you could listen to all the music you couldn't listen to during study hours.
"We should order pizza today," Ben suggested.
"No, we had hamburgers for dinner yesterday, I feel bad for spending weeks feeding myself such greasy food..." You rebutted him. Ben gave you a sideways glance before smiling and denying.
"Stop pretending you don't think it's a dream to have pizza for dinner, breakfast, and snacks."
You smiled too but folded your arms.
"You're not denying me? Too bad, it would have been funny if you had refused only to tell you that I'm already turning to go to the pizzeri."
You let out a laugh, and when you were already ordering at the counter, you took the reins, ordering everything to your liking and knowing that Ben would hold out for whatever you ordered.
"Do you pay by card or cash?" The boy at the counter asked.
"I don't know, ask Ben."
And you stepped back, letting him talk to him. Ben turned to you with a panicked face and moved his lips to tell you voicelessly that he was going to kill you.
"With cash, please."
He put down the bill and put his arm around your neck, playfully shoving you and ruffling your hair as you laughed.
Your parents greeted Ben with their usual cheerfulness, and continued watching TV when they saw that you were ready to start studying. Of course, Ben had offered to give them one of the pizzas you had ordered, which your mother loved, your father accepted, your mother flatly declined, and your father declined almost immediately.
"You're a sweetheart, Ben..." your mother had said, and so you repeated it as soon as you closed the door.
"Of course I am, I bought you pizza."
"If we had salads for dinner, I would have bought them myself."
"Yeah, but you would have made me cry... and no amount of money can heal a broken heart."
"You underestimate the amount of money I would have paid to watch you passive aggressively poke lettuce while crying in a corner."
"You would have thrown money away because you could see me like that during visits to my aunt's house during Christmas."
You laughed and tossed him pen to ask him to start concentrating. You continued the afternoon as you did during studying, introducing and explaining subjects to each other, correcting each other, and in the case of algebra, watching youtube tutorials in silence. Studying with Ben was like a library session, with its silences and repetitions. After a day with him, all the time felt rewarding, and all the learning was useful. You also liked this time because it left you no room to think about the strange feelings your best friend aroused in you, you just enjoyed and studied, the doubts would come later. The pizza was delicious, although it was already cold, and Ben told you about last weekend when he was forced to visit his grandparents. When you went back to studying, the topic you had left to solve was one of the most difficult for you.
"Do you understand it yet?" he asked you after explaining it to you for the fourth time. You nodded, but your eyes glazed over. "Hey, hey, it's okay, I can explain it again..."
"It's just that it's a very important point, and I'm going to fail it..."
"No, you're not going to fail it because I'll make sure you understand it."
You smiled at him and watched him turn a little red. Suddenly moved again by your feelings, you had to look away from him, and you became aware of the whole mess running around the room.
"I'm going to throw away the pizza cartons. Do you want something from the kitchen?" You offered.
"No, but let me help you."
He came downstairs with you, and you were both surprised at the silence in the house. Your parents were chatting quietly in the kitchen, already in their pajamas.
"Wow..." you said, looking at them quizzically, "what time is it?"
"Half past eleven, honey," said your mother.
"Well, I'd better get going then," Ben seemed startled, tossing the empty boxes in the trash and intending to start packing up.
"Ben, wait!" You asked, and he stopped. And not knowing why you had that impulse, you turned to your parents for help. Your mother understood you instantly.
"You don't have to go...stay the night" she offered and you smiled at her gratefully. Ben hesitated, glanced at your father, who nodded in passing, he'd known Ben for a long time now, and looked back at you.
"Sure, if it's no trouble at all," he said at last.
"None. I just think it's a better idea if you don't keep studying. It's important to sleep to retain, " your mother assured him, looked back at you, and winked.
"It doesn't take much convincing to get me to stop studying," Ben joked.
You went back up to your room, set up the mattress with blankets and pillows that Ben had once used from previous sleepovers. Although you didn't remember that the last time he stayed over was a few years ago, and from your bed you saw how the blanket fell short, and his feet were sticking out. You laughed at the image, and he threw a pillow at you.
"Listen to your mother, go to sleep," he scolded.
"I can't...I'm afraid of the giant teenager who has snuck into my room," you told him in a little girl voice, something you knew irritated him.
"I'm more afraid of the farts you might bomb me with at night after pizzas."
Jokingly, you turned off the light, wished each other good night, and promptly fell asleep. Or at least he did. You fell into a terrible nightmare. You were walking along the road that led to the institute, at night and alone. It was cold, and you didn't seem to get anywhere, no matter how far you walked. Suddenly, a car appeared, and as it approached, you noticed that you recognized it, Ben's car. You were glad to see him, and he seemed to see you. He was speeding up to pick you up as soon as possible, and as he was approaching, the car was going too fast, and Ben couldn't stop. He had already left you behind when he disappeared into the darkness, without hearing you call out to him, and you began to scream and cry. Then you noticed shaking, your name, and when you opened your eyes, you saw Ben, illuminated by the little light from the window.
"Hey, hey...easy...wake up, it was just a bad dream..." he whispered to you.
"Ben...thank goodness..." You soothed, hugging him, which surprised him.
"Yes, I'm here. I heard you had a nightmare about me."
"You left me alone on the road, at night..." you told him, releasing him just a little.
"Some asshole I am in your subconscious, aren't I?"
He smiles at you, and you smiled back, somewhat embarrassed that you had woken him up. He wanted to go back to his bed, but your hesitation to let go of his hand made him think you might not want to. He was right. He lay down next to you.
"I hate having nightmares. Whenever I have one, I always have a worse one afterwards."
"You'll have to risk it, you need to rest" he insisted. "Lay your head on my shoulder and try to sleep."
You looked at him with sheepish eyes, afraid to dream about him again. He smiled at you, and some of his confidence rubbed off on you. After all, they were just dreams. You would forget about them in the course of the day. Ben kissed you on the forehead, something he had never done before, before whispering something to you.
"I'm going to be here when you wake up."
You didn't have any nightmares again, in fact, you woke up rested. It was Ben who had a little more trouble waking up. You watched him for a second...yes, you were definitely a little more in love with your best friend than you thought. You had to make a great effort not to think too much about that kiss on your forehead, and you were so nervous about your exams that you didn't notice how flushed Ben was when he remembered he was sleeping in your bed, you next to him. He had memorized the smell of your hair, and feeling your weight on his had lulled him into a sweet sleep he never wanted to wake up from.
Every exam you finished was a reason to get together, always giving each other a hug that attracted the eyes of all the classmates, you reviewed the subjects without being able to avoid being distracted, and Ben loved to review outdoors because the air stirred your hair and he had an excuse to put your hair back in place. You even felt sorry for yourself on the last day of exams, Ben was going to a family meal, and you were back to eating normal food, sleeping alone and spending the evening with people who weren't your best friends. The messages were constant, but never enough. You had just finished reading the approved notes from your email when you heard Ben's car pull up in front of your house. That one subjet that worried you the most, approved. You ran to greet him, shouting your A's into the air, and Ben responded with his in return. He grabbed you as soon as you approached, squeezing you against him, full of joy.
"This deserves a reward," you said.
"Have you missed pizza as your only food as much as I have?
No, you hadn't missed the pizza. You had missed him.
"Of course I have," you lied.
You let him order at his taste that time, which surprised him. You sat at one of the smaller tables, waiting to be served.
"I'm surprised you let me have so much freedom," Ben said, half smiling, half confused.
"Well, it's just that... you've really helped me a lot, what less than letting you choose.
"Helping you with what exactly?"
"Well...studying." You felt the colours rise in your cheeks.
"Just like you helped me study."
"Well... Ben, in general, you help me with everything. You make everything so... fun."
Now he was blushing. He stood closer to you.
"I hope you know that you make everything better too..."
"I'm a little annoying, maybe."
"A little," he joked. "And I like that I'm the one who sees that side of you."
"Really?"
"I really do. I love that you dream about me, even if I'm an asshole in it."
"Don't be silly, it was a nightmare precisely because you left me alone. And I just want you to be with me."
Your tone was much more serious. Your expression made it clear that you meant it, that your gratitude was a confession.
"You know what's funny? I dream about you too. But not when I sleep...I dream awake, imagining what we will say to each other when I pick you up from home, or what we will tell each other when we go out to eat together...I dream of spending the whole day with you and I am content to be with you for a while because it is...wonderful. But no matter how much I dream, nothing is better than being able to hug you and be by your side, even if it's only for five minutes between classes."
That's when you couldn't help but jump in for a kiss, cutting the distance between you two. A tender, long kiss, it felt new and yet so recognizable, like something that should have happened a long time ago. Luckily, it had just happened. You pulled away and watched as Ben smiled, an idea formulating in his head and joked.
"Too bad we have to wait for spring exams to spend the day together again."
You pushed him back with a laugh, but he moved his chair to stand next to you and kiss you again. Everything Ben did justified the fact that the pizzas he ordered were terrible.
A/N: sorry this took fucking forever, I gave up on writing here, I had a crisis over writing smuts. But I felt bad about abandoning this cuz I started writing it with a lot of love and I really like it. I think I'll write on tumblr again. Hope you like it, so sorry for the wait.

Part 20:
Summary: After confronting your scar, Wally heads into his and you and him finally admit your feelings for each other (finally LOL)
The sun peered through the small window in the storage room waking you up not that you got much rest after keep waking up reliving your scar. Good thing you actually didn’t need sleep, but it felt good to have something normal. Wally was already awake doing some stretches on the floor. “Morning, Darling” he says as he does a sit up. Seeing him like that makes you feel all flustered. “I have an idea, something we could all do to take our minds off this whole scar/ Mr Martin drama.” He says continuing to do push ups. “What’s your idea?” you ask as you get off the couch. He finishes his sit ups and you give him your hand to help him off the floor, not that he needed it anyway. “We have a field day. We get all of our anger out and just have fun.” He says enthusiastically. “That’s a great idea, I defiantly need to get some anger out after yesterday” you said. He nods his head as you two exit the room to find the others. You find Rhonda and Charley in the cafeteria and tell them Wally’s idea. they both agree wanting to push back going into their scars longer.
You all head outside and find the others along the way, all eager for the day. Normally field day was Wally’s thing, and you just went along with it, but for the first time in years you were just as eager. You grabbed a golf club and began smashing the vending machines. You turn around and notice everyone is staring at you in shock. “Damn chickee, didn’t know you had it in you.” Rhonda expresses with her mouth hung open. “Yeah well, seeing your own death for the first time as well as your best friend’s death again it does something to a person.” You say as you take another swing at another vending machine. “Are you guys going to join in or just watch me destroy stuff?” you add when again you notice everyone staring.
They all go their own ways, while Charley stays behind to talk to you. “Y/N I love you but in all these years of friendship I have never seen you so angry especially on field day, a day literary made for it. What’s going on?” he asks with concern in his voice as you give one final blow to the vending machines. “I told you, going through my scar was traumatic.” You reply as you put down the golf club and follow Charley to the picnic table. “And?” he adds. You shrug not knowing what he means to which he gives you a look. “Ok and its Wally. I just- I can’t understand why he hasn’t noticed I have been here all along and that we belong together.” You utter. “Are you quoting Taylor Swift right now? He laughs. “Yes, if you and I were alive we would be at all of her concerts.” You laugh. “You know I love him but he’s a himbo. You have to actually tell him otherwise he will remain clueless forever.” He states. “I wish he would come to the conclusion himself, so I don’t have to tell him. Oh my god, Rhonda is right I am a chicken.” You say. “Yeah, you are. Just tell him already before he and Maddie get too serious, she may not be really dead but that doesn’t stop her and him from doing stuff.” he says. “Gross.” You add as Rhonda and Tommy join the table.
“Have you calmed down yet chickee?” Rhonda asks and she takes a seat next to Charley while Tommy sits next to you. “She’s finally going to tell him.” Charley says enthusiastically. “About time chickee, what made you decide now?” Rhonda says as she takes a lollipop out from her pocket. “Going into the scar, seeing his death and mine made me realise that I don’t want to waste anymore time. It feels right.” You express. “Well go do it now, I overheard him tell Maddie he’s ready to face his scar and find Mr Martin.” Tommy says as Wally and Maddie approach your table.
“Darling, its time.” Wally says as Maddie takes a seat. You nod and go with him to grab his object to get into his scar. He grabs his football as you and him head to the field. “You sure you are up for this now? The others will understand that you need more time.” You express knowing what he will face since you just did. “Yeah, I have to. No, I need too, I need to find him we need- I need answers.” He says as he tries to hype himself up. “Ok Walls, I’ll be right here for you.” You say giving him a hug. He lets go off the hug, then vanishes as he sees the red glow.
You take a seat on the lower level of the bleachers, not knowing how long you would have to wait. To pass time you talk to yourself, practicing what you want to say to Wally when you tell him that you love him. “What I’m about to say mighty be the best thing you ever heard or the worst thing, but I have been holding on to a secret that I have never told you, for 41 years. Wally, I love you. I have loved you since junior year. I was going to tell you at homecoming, but we all know how that went down. I then got so terrified that you would reject me, and I would lose you. Which I could never lose you especially in this place. I’m sorry I have kept it in for so long and I know you and Maddie have something, but it was killing me not telling you.” You finish rambling when you see Wally fall out of his scar, and on to the grass, grasping for air clinging onto his throat.
“I’m here, Walls. Its ok.” You say as you rush towards him and kneel to hug him. It takes him a while to calm down, but you just hold him and wait until he says. “I love you too, Darling.” You stare blankly at him confused. “Huh?” you mumble. “I heard everything you said Y/N, like you said you heard me in yours yesterday.” He replies pushing a strand of hair away from your face. Shit. You did forget you said that. “I didn’t want you to find out that way, I truly was waiting for the right moment. You’re not mad at me that I never told you?” You ask as you grab his hand. “Why would I be mad Darling? Because I have kept something from you for a long time too, I have loved you since I accidently walked in on you changing on Halloween, I was scared too.” He admits. “So, we have loved each other this whole time and we never said anything?” You add. “Yeah, I guess so.” He laughs making you laugh as well. “Oh my god, I could have been with you this whole time, but I have been too much of a chicken to admit it.” You say still laughing. And before you knew it, Wally had grabbed your hands and gently directed you to the grass, with him on top of you and kisses you. He breaks apart the kiss long enough to say “You belong with me, Darling” you smile and kiss him again. Finally, you feel a weight lift. You feel your heart get lighter and fuller of love knowing he’s felt the same way this whole time. “I love you Walls.” You mumble into his lips as you feel breathless in a good way, finally kissing the love of your life.
Then you remembered, the whole reason he went into the scar. “Wait was he in there?” you ask breaking apart your kiss, eyes still locked to his. “No, he must be in one of the others. Now, let’s not talk about him and let’s get back to what we were doing.” He snarls as he places his soft pink lips on yours once more.

Part 8:
Summary: It’s been three weeks since your death as Halloween rolls around, the ghosts are busy planning for the big Halloween school dance and Wally walks in on you…
It’s been 3 weeks since you and Wally have been dead, and it also happens to be Halloween tomorrow. Normally you and Wally would do movie characters, we picked it out already and anything. You and him were meant to dress up as Rocky Balboa and Adrian Pennino from one of Wally’s favourite movies, Rocky. Ever since you were kids, your moms would dress you in couple’s costumes because they thought it was cute and it became a tradition for us every Halloween. And of course, you will get to see everyone else have fun at the Halloween dance while you will most likely be eating all the Halloween candy waiting for the night to be over. over the last couple of weeks, the other ghosts have been really nice to you and Wally even Rhonda was making more of an effort to be your friend though most of the time you spent in the library since you were dead you now have an excuse to read every single book.
Wally walks into the library, your nose so buried in your book that you didn’t even notice him walk in. “I thought I would find you in here, come on its time for group. You had been so focuses on your book you didn’t realise how late it had gotten. “Fuck I’m sorry I was really into this book. Let’s go don’t want Rhonda to find a reason not to like us because we are late.” You say all frazzled. You place the book down and You and Wally head to the gym. You both sit down as Mr Martin has already started. “Great to see you two have finally joined us. We are discussing the Halloween dance and who we should go as.” Janet chimes in. “I’m dressing up as Rosalind Franklin a British chemist.” You nod at her like you know who she’s talking about but, you have no clue who she was. As the others share their ideas Mr. Martin looks at you and Wally. “This will be your first of many afterlife Halloween parties, what do you two normally do for Halloween?” he asks. “When we were younger our moms would dress us in matching character costumes like Mickey and Minnie Mouse because they thought it was cute but Y/N and I still- used to carry on the tradition. We were going to be Rocky Balboa and Adrian Pennino from Rocky.” Wally said with a little emotion in his tone realising that the two of you won’t be able to carry on with tradition. “That’s a great movie, I loved Rocky.” Tommy chimed in. “Maybe Janet and Dawn could help you make some costumes?” he added. “Really? You guys will help? Thank you.” Now you respond a bit more excited, maybe the Halloween dance wont suck after all.
As group ends, You and Wally meet Janet and Dawn in the home economics room and with your help and what supplies you found they made pretty accurate costumes. “Wow you guys these look great!” you say as Dawn finishes up on your top. “Go try it on see how it fits.” Janet says excitedly. You and Wally leave to head to the bathrooms to change. Wally finished putting on his costume and came to check in on you when he walks in on you changing. “Wally geez turn around” you say as you try to find something to cover yourself since all you had on was your bra. “Sorry I... sorry” he quickly stumbles out of the bathroom. You quickly finish putting your costume on and meet Wally out in the hall. “Well, it was only time that one of us would walk in when we are changing.” You giggle as you see Wally’s cheeks turn pink. “We should go back and let the girls see our costume’s” He mumbles avoiding the conversation. Did he just blush? You wonder what it could mean. You and Wally walk back into the home economics room and Janet says “Those costumes turned out great. You two might even win the costume challenge.” “Wait you guys do a costume challenge too?” Wally says. “Yep, whoever has the best costume gets to pick the next movie for movie night.” Dawn chimes in also giggling with pins in her mouth which is not at all disturbing. “Cool I’m going to change.” Wally says and before any of you can respond he’s already left. “What was that about?” Janet says with concern. “I think he’s a bit freaked out because he walked in on me when I was changing, and he saw me in my bra.” You respond back. Both Janet and Dawn look at each other sensing something going on with you and him and before they can respond, you interrupt them “Thanks again girls I owe you, see you later.” And you leave quickly not wanting for them to make any more comment about the situation. You changed back into your clothes and went to try to find Wally.

Part 10:
This part will be in Wally’s POV (so when you read “you” or “I” its referring to Wally and not your character.)
Summary:
Wally reflects over the past couple of weeks. His death, his new afterlife, his best friend’s death, being stuck in the “in between”, other ghosts, homecoming, his own memorial, and the Halloween dance where he realizes he may have some feelings he didn’t know he had.
The last few weeks have been overwhelming. Not only did I die but also my best friend Y/N on the same day. We have been stuck in school the place I couldn’t wait to leave behind and begin a new chapter, because as soon as I try to leave, some force pushes me back to the place I died. And to find out there are others that have been here for 20 plus years, haunting the halls waiting for their chance to cross over. Then there was this overwhelming fear of being stuck here for entirety. If I didn’t have Y/N I think I would have lost my mind. Then there was the homecoming dance and as well as our joint memorial service and seeing our family and I still haven’t fully expressed how that felt. Seeing my mom and dad and not for them to hear me and hold me. Not only that I had to be there for Y/N. she is in the exact same spot as me. Eager to talk to her family and tell them she is ok. And, not knowing when you will see them again. I had to be strong for her to comfort her and hold on to my emotions because God, she was there for me when I crashed out before it was my turn to be the strong one.
3 weeks go past since our deaths, and I am getting more comfortable with the concept of being here. The other ghosts are great especially Tommy. He has become a quick friend someone who I can talk to since he has been here for a year. Then there were the group sessions run by Mr Martin. He is still wanting us to write our obituaries to help us cope with our death and help us move on and not hold on to the living world as much. The Halloween dance came, and Y/N and I still got to do our group costumes as Rocky Balboa and Adrian Pennino from. Rocky thanks to Janet and Dawn for being making our costumes. They tell you to try them out, so Y/N and I head to the bathrooms. I changed quickly and decided to check on Y/N. I opened the door and there she was, her shirt off with just her bra on. “Wally geez turn around” she says as she tries to find something to cover herself up with. “Sorry I… sorry” I mumble as I close the door. I can feel the heat rise to my cheeks. Am I blushing over seeing Y/N with her bra on? She did have amazing breasts- no. I can’t think like that. She is your best friend; I can’t think like that right? Thoughts fly around as she walks out of the bathroom, and we walk back to the girls to show them costumes. As soon as they see them, I ran out of there. I can’t be next to her not now when I just had that thought. After all these years, is my heart telling me something? No, it can’t be. I don’t want to jeopardize our friendship over feelings I don’t know are genuine. I need some time to think, and I know the perfect place we haven’t used in years so I know that will be the last place for her to look giving me some time to sort out my emotions.
I quickly changed and avoided any interaction with anyone and went to our old spot under some bleachers on the football field. I lay down and try to gather my thoughts. She is your friend; she will forgive you for what you did accidently. She will properly laugh it off because. That’s the type of person she is. Funny, caring, kind beautiful, sex- no I can’t finish that thought. Ugh when did things become so complicated. Maybe I do have some feelings for her I don’t know but I can’t tell her, not yet anyways she still trying to come to terms with her death, heck she hasn’t even talked about her death all I know is that she was hit by a car. I have to be there as a friend, she doesn’t need the confusion of my feelings to confuse her.
It wasn’t long until she found me, of course Darling would find me. I swear she knows me better than I know myself. “There you are, I have been looking for you for ages.” She says as she sits beside me. I don’t know what to say. “Come on Wally talk to me. Its ok I don’t care you saw me in my bra it’s not a big deal to me.” she says. “I’m sorry Darling, I freaked out, I thought you would be mad that I walked in on you. I just don’t want anything to change ever between us. You and me against whatever this thing is, keeping us trapped at school I don’t want anything to change because I accidently walked in on you.” I respond still laying on the ground. “Wally, nothing you say or do will never make me not want to me your friend. If I was mad, I wouldn’t have made that joke. It’s ok.” She spoke. I get up off the floor “You really are one in a million friend you know that right?” “Oh, I know I’m the best, you’re lucky to have me.” She sassed me back as you embraced in a hug. “Come on let’s go get something to eat, we may be dead, but we apparently still need to eat, which I still don’t get but whatever.” I can’t tell her; I need to be her friend she doesn’t need the added pressure of my confession.
Before I knew it, it was time for the dance. Already I can hear students in the gym and the best music blaring from the speakers. I quickly change and I don’t even think about waiting for the others because in the first time since death, I wanted to have fun. Mr Martin was already there and walks over. “Great costume Wally, who are you meant to be?” he asked, “Rocky Balboa from Rocky and Y/N is Adrian.” You respond. “Have you and Y/N thought about writing your obituaries? It will really help you with the healing progress.” He said. He really seems eager for us to write them it hasn’t even been a month since we died, and he wants us to talk about our deaths and move on from it when it is all still raw and emotional. “Not yet but I can talk to Y/N about it.” “Excellent, it will help you both heal, like it did for the others. I can get some samples for you to look over.” He said a little to eagerly. Then Y/N walks in with Rhonda, Tommy, Janet, and Dawn but I can’t help but look at her. Wait no stop those thoughts Wally. “Finally, you guys are here. It’s been me and Mr Martin for what feels like ages, and he’s just been staring at me.” I shout to try to talk over the music and the others. Y/N takes my hand and leads me to the dance floor with the others in tow. And other good thing about being dead is that we can eat all the candy we want because our stomachs just reset which is still so weird.
As the night continues Mr Martin announces that he has finished tallying the votes for best costume, which should obviously go to Y/N. she looks so – no. not finishing that thought. “I have finished going over the votes for best costume. The winner gets to pick the movie for the next movie night. And the winner is Wally for dressing as Rocky Balboa.” Mr Martin announces to the group. Oh shit, I won. Excitement fills my body. It was just a silly costume contest, but I won. And for the first time since my death, I felt happy.
