Part 17
Summary: After discovering that Wally and Maddie are going to homecoming together you spent the whole night in the storage room, leaving Wally and the others worried about you. Maddie shares a theory about her death. And it’s the homecoming dance where someone else admits their feelings for you.
It was the next day and you were still in the storage room under the stage. You hadn’t planned to stay there the whole night, but it felt good to be by yourself for once and not have one of the others bothering you. You get off the couch and go up the stairs and lift the hatch and walk on the stage. Walking the halls of the school you knew eventually you will run into someone. “Hey Y/N where have you been? We were looking everywhere for you.” Charley asks as he catches up to you. “I just needed some space, I’m ok.” You reply not wanting to talk about the night before, but you knew he would ask anyways. “So, how did it go? Tell me everything.” He asks. “I didn’t tell him.” you say. “I saw my family. My sister, her husband and for the first time in decades my parents. I was so overwhelmed seeing them but knowing they can’t see me, hurt Charley. I went to find Wally to talk it all out when I overheard Maddie ask him to the dance as friends.” You say back softly. “Ok, I didn’t expect that. Seeing your family must have been hard since yesterday was also your death anniversary.” He said. “Yeah, Wally looked happy when Maddie asked so I’m happy if he’s happy even if it isn’t with me.” You say back fighting tears from falling down your face. “But you said it was just as friends, right? Maybe you still have a chance?” Charley asked. Looking around to make sure there was no one else around you say. “Yeah maybe. I’ll just hang out tonight and see how it goes.” You said to him as you head to the teachers’ lounge.
As you walk in you see Wally, Tommy, Rhonda, and Maddie on the lounges as you can hear Maddie share a theory that she thinks one of her teachers may have killed her. “Oh, shit a teacher did this to you?” you ask as you approach the couches. “Yeah, maybe it’s looking that way yeah.” Before you can ask why she thinks that Wally grabs your arm and pulls you away from the group out the room. “Wally, what are you doing? I’m trying to see if there is anything I can do to help her.” You say as you try to get away from his grip on your arm. “Darling, I was worried about you last night? Where did you go? You said you wanted to talk to me about something.” He rambles on with question after question. “I saw my family here and I got overwhelmed so I went to the theatre storage room to be by myself I didn’t mean to, but I feel asleep.” You said. “I’m really sorry I scared you.” “Hey, its ok, I know it would have been hard to see them after all these years.” Wally says as he hugs you. “I wish you came and found me, I don’t like that you had to handle that by yourself, I was so worried when I couldn’t find you or when the others said they didn’t know where you were. It was a hard day for us yesterday.” He adds with a shaky voice. “I know I should have found you, I’m sorry Walls. I just had to get away and I remembered there was a couch in the storage room, and I knew no one would know where I was. But your right I should have at least told you.” you say as you let go of his hug.
“What did you want to talk about?” he asks. You try to give him an excuse but all you could come up with was “You know what I forgot, after all the emotions it must have slipped my mind.” You respond. “Ok, but can you promise me something? Promise to never go anywhere where no one knows where you are, we were all worried.” He asks looking in your eyes. This closeness you hadn’t had that moment since the storage room on New Year’s Eve years ago. “I promise Walls. I will go find the others and tell them I’m sorry then we can get ready for the dance.” You say to him pretending you didn’t know that he was already going with Maddie. “I forgot, Maddie asked me to be her date as a friend since she doesn’t know anyone and I know we always hang out together, I just felt bad, but I can tell her I it’s off and take you instead.” He says fractally barely breathing between words. “Walls its ok. Take Maddie I will hang out with Charley and Rhonda.”
At the dance, everyone had taken advantage of the theatre storage room and luckily the drama kids just did the musical Hairspray so there were heaps of dresses to choose from Charley was right, I could still tell Wally I love him, Maddie and him are just here as friends it’s not like they are dating. You pick up a dress you knew Wally would love, a dark blue midi dress with florals at the bottom. You head to the girl’s bathroom and change into your dress and do your hair and makeup. You walk out the bathroom and Tommy is standing there as if he was waiting for you.
“Hey, Y/N you look nice.” “Thank you.” You replied nervously as you and him walk to the gym. “Look I’m just gonna come out and say it, I like you Y/N and I have for a really long time. I never said anything because I assumed you and Wally were in love but after observing for years, I learnt that’s not true, that you two are just best friends.” He says. Your mind goes blank. He likes me? This whole time he has. “Tommy, I think you are really nice and I’m glad you and Wally are good friends, but I don’t see us as that. I’m sorry I just see you as a friend.” You say. “Is this because of what happened between me and Rhonda? We talked about it since then and it was so long ago.” He questioned. “No, I know you resolved things between you and her. But I am actually in love with Wally, I have been for 41 years. I’m telling him tonight. I’m really am sorry but I’m just telling the truth.” You say as you feel another weight lift off your shoulders. Finally, someone else knows, now you just need to tell him. “41 years? Why have you kept it for so long?” he asks. “I was actually going to tell him at homecoming in ’83 but he died, and then so did I and I didn’t want my feelings to get in the way when we were going through the transition between life and death. I couldn’t have done this without him, and I couldn’t risk him not replicating my feelings, he means so much to me.” You respond.
“Is that why Rhonda calls you chickee?” he laughs. “Yeah, that’s why. I’m actually going to tell him at the dance, I even picked out a dress in his favourite colour.” You say with a smirk on your face thinking about Wally. “Well, I’m happy for you guys, really. And I’m happy you were honest with me.” Tommy adds and he gives you a hug. You walk into the gym, already filled with students and you see posters up for homecoming queen and in the middle a photo of Maddie her friends set up.
You see Charley, Rhonda, and Maddie at the drinks table while they watch Wally dance around to Steppin’ out by Joe Jackson, a favourite song of his. “Y/N you look amazing, thank goodness they just did Hairspray because that dress was made for you.” Charley gushes as he directs you to take a spin. “Thanks.” You respond. “So, are you doing it tonight Chickee?” Rhonda asks as she takes another sip of punch. “I’m nervous as hell, but yes I am.” You reply as you fix your dress up. “And I’m gathering that we are talking about it in front of him, I gather Tommy knows?” Charley asks. “Yeah, she just told me after she rejected my feelings, but I’m happy for her.” Tommy says. “Wait what? You like Y/N?” Charley gasps as he puts down his drink and crosses his arms. “Yeah, for a while actually, but she was honest with me and doesn’t see me that way and says she loves Wally. But I all I want is to see her happy.” Tommy admits as Wally approaches, and you notice that he isn’t with Maddie.
“Wow you all look great.” Wally says and he turns his attention to you. “Especially you, Y/N.” he says as he wraps his arm around you. You feel heat rise to your cheeks as you ask him. “Hey, where’s Maddie?” “Oh, her friends have hatched some plan about finding how who killed her.” Wally responds as he puts his hands in his pockets. Out the corner of your eye you see your niece and her date at the photobooth. “Lily looks beautiful, I wish I was there for her.” You say as the others direct their attention to the photobooth. When you turn back around you see Maddie and Wally are no longer there as he has dragged her to the dance floor. You stood back and watched them dance and can’t help getting jealous. This was looking way more than them just being friends you thought. But how can I be mad. That was Wally’s personality to make everyone feel included and fit in. putting your drink down you say to the group. “I’ll be back, just need to head to the bathroom.” And you leave before the others can respond.
In the hallway, you spot Dawn in her usual spot. “Didn’t feel like joining the dance again this year?” you ask as you look up at her. “No. Those kids are so mean I saw two guys bully a girl because her outfit was 70s inspired and I couldn’t do anything about it.” She says as she strokes her hair through her hands. “That’s awful, kids of this generation suck.” You reply. “Well anyways I was heading to the bathroom, bye Dawn.” You say as you look at her for a response. You make your way to the bathroom and out the corner of your eye you see Wally lying on the grass looking up at the night sky. You can tell he is sad, so you decide to head outside to meet with him. You head to the door and just about to approach him, you see Maddie and Wally kiss. Your heart shattered into a million pieces and tears stream down your face as you witness them kiss. I really fucked this up you thought as you head back inside.
You go to the gym to try to talk to anyone, but Charley and Rhonda are nowhere to be seen, just Tommy. Shit I can’t let him see me like this, not after he admitted feelings for me. But it was too late tommy sees you and rushes towards you. “Hey, what’s wrong?” he says in a low tone. “I... I waited too long. I just saw Maddie and Wally kissing.” You mumble as you wipe tears from your face. “Shit I’m sorry Y/N. Come on let’s get out of here.” He says as he wraps his arm around you and directs you out of the gym. He takes you out of the gym and takes you to an empty classroom and he just lets you cry. “Fuck, I’m sorry Tommy, you shouldn’t have to see me this way you just- “he cuts you off. “It’s ok. I’m still your friend, I’m still going to support you.” he says as he wraps his arms around you in a hug. Suddenly you hear the door open, and Wally is standing there. “What’s going on Darling?"

Wally clark x fem reader slow burn story
Summary:
After you witness Wally’s death you are confused, overwhelmed, and lost. And then tragedy strikes again. Then everything in your life as well as Wally’s changes and you met some new faces…
Part 3:
As you leave the field everything around you is a blur still in shock. Your mind is going a million miles a minute trying to come to terms of what just happened. You just want to go home and rot away listening to yours and Wally’s favourite song on your Walkman.
“Sweetie, could you go start the car? I need to head to the bathroom before we go home.” Mom says ever so softly knowing how fragile you are. Without saying anything you nod and grab mom’s keys, put on your Walkman and walk to the car park. You begin walking to the car music blaring through your headphones as you look down to adjust your Walkman in your pocket. Unbeknownst to you a car is speeding in the car park. A senior showing of his new car speeds in the parking lot and then BANG instantly collecting you. You get fling over the car and land directly on your head.
You slowly open your eyes and things are all a blur. All you see is the dark night sky and red and blue lights. You slowly get up; you see a big crowd in the parking lot all huddled in the middle and looking down at the ground almost as if they were looking for something.
“Y/N? Y/N” you hear your name being called in the distance. For a moment you thought it was Wally. You get up and walk over to the crowd of people and you try to make your way through. You squeeze past people, but they pretend you’re not even there. You make your way to the centre and see your mom screaming and crying and she’s holding something. You look closer and realise it you. Confusion instantly washes over you. How are you on the floor there when you were standing right here. “Mom, Mom I’m right here can’t you see me?” you say frantically. All the sudden the voice you heard before is right behind you. It was Wally. “Wally, what the fuck I just saw you die, how are you here?” “I don’t know. All I know is that I was playing the game then I woke up and I saw you and everyone over me in a circle. Then I saw 3 other people that I have never seen before talk to me and said I was dead.” Wally said still confused and worried. “Wait if your dead and my body’s over there and I’m here does that make me- “
“A ghost like me. Yeah.” Wally said as he cut you off. The world around you becomes a haze as you revel with the news that you are dead. That you now are a ghost and so is Wally and a bunch of other ghosts? “Huh what? I was just there listening to our song how could I be dead?” Another man with two girls walk to you and he extends his arms. “I know you two must have a lot of questions, come with us and we will talk about it.” The man in the suit that looked something your Uncle Henry would wear. “I know you guys must be scared; I was too when I first found out I died. Trust me it gets better.” The girl with red hair said as the other girl next to her with the paper boy hat didn’t say a word as she directs you and Wally back into the school.
You and Wally and the others walk into school as the man introduces himself. “Hello, Mr Martin. I like to formally welcome you both to your new life or should I say afterlife” Both stunned to what Mr Martin just said. “Hi, I’m Janet and this is Rhonda.” The girl with the red hair says as she holds her hand out to shake which both you and Wally do. “I suppose we don’t need to give you a tour since you went to this school” Mr Martin laughs clearly trying to break the silence. Neither you nor Wally laugh.
“Um yeah hi, nice to meet you all but what are we doing here? If we are dead, aren’t we I, don’t I know supposed to be you know in heaven?” You snap back at Mr Martin as Wally just stands there quietly. “That’s the thing with this school we have no idea why we are trapped here, we just are. If you try to leave the school grounds you get, put back to where you died.” Mr Martin explained ignoring your snappiness. “No, that ridiculous what do you mean we are stuck here?” Wally expressed as he pushes his hair back with one hand and the other on his hip. “It means quarterback if you try to leave school some force, we don’t know about pushes you back to the place you died” Rhonda snarled already bored of the conversation. She walks off down the hall towards the teachers’ lounge. “Ignore her, she gets a bit cranky when she has to explain what has happened to us to new people.” Janet says as she turns to you. “Wait others? There’s more ghosts?” you express. “Yeah, I know it’s a lot, but you will be ok.” Janet says as she starts to walk down the all the same direction Rhonda went.
You and Wally are confused as you look at each other in shock. This is really happening, you and he are dead, there are other ghosts that haunt your school, and you can’t leave the school grounds because some force will send you back to the spot you died. “Well, I’ll let you get settled, its already late and I have to prepare for our group session tomorrow” Mr Martin says and walks away before either of you could respond.
“This is bullshit, they can’t tell us what to do. I’m leaving this place. Are you with me?” Wally raises is voice with furry. “Wally, I think they were telling the truth that we can’t leave.” You respond calmly not wanting to start a fight between you too. “We need to figure that out ourselves. I don’t trust them, not just yet. Please Y/N, come with me.” He looks at you eager for you to respond. You not knowing what to do you agree with him. He’s right who’s to say they are telling the truth about all of this. You had to make sure of it yourselves. “Ok Wally, I’m with you. But maybe you should change into something else besides your football uniform” “I think I have some sweats and my varsity jacket in the boy’s locker room.” Wally says and you and he start walking in the direction of the boys’ lockers. You wait outside and wait for him to change. Once he’s finished you both decide to head to the main entrance of the school and try to leave whatever nightmare you both woke up in., he takes your hand as you reach the end of the school property. You both at the same time walk across and… bam you are by yourself starting up at the sky in the school parking lot. Great just great you thought they were telling the truth that means Wally is on the football field you get up and run towards the field and you see Wally was already running towards you. “Well, I guess they were right, we can’t leave. This is so fucked” Wally expressed as you finally met. “It’s ok Wally, I’m scared too but I think we have to learn to trust those guys. By the way they are dressed they look like they have been here for a while.” You respond back and worry washes over you still in shock and in disbelief that this is happening. “Ok your right. Let’s go back inside and find somewhere to rest because I sure as hell I’ve got a lot of questions for them.” Wally says in a calmer tone then before.
You both head back inside and then Wally remembers something. “Hey Y/N, you said before the homecoming game you wanted to tell me something, what was it?” “Oh, umm it doesn’t matter I was just going to ask if you wanted to go to the diner after the game for some ice-cream before we went back to your place.” You respond back. That was the quickest you’ve ever come up with a lie before because now is not the right time to tell him your feelings when you both are so vulnerable right now. He nods not saying anything as you continue to walk around the school trying to find somewhere to rest… wait do we even need to rest if we are dead? You keep that thought to yourself as you and wally head to the library remembering there’s couches there.

⊹ ⊹ ⊹ ⊹ ⊹ ⊹ ⊹ ⊹
Wally had been wandering the halls of the school, bored out of his mind, his thoughts drifting aimlessly as he just tried to make it through another day—not that he ever expected much on a normal one, at least. But then, there were those days. The ones that turned into trouble. The kind of trouble that you made happen.
It didn't really take much to turn an average boring day into something unforgettable when you were involved. You were the life of the party. You and Wally? Every single time you two were together, trouble seemed to follow.
And today? Today was no different.
You had both made a promise long ago: make eternity fun. It was a pact, a way to deal with the fact that you two were dead, with no going back to your old lives. So, you'd sworn to make the most of every single day, even if it meant causing chaos along the way.
You'd even written down an entire bucket list with him. Wally named it "100 things to do before crossing over." You two hadn't really crossed off many of the things you'd written down; some of them were not very possible, given the fact that you two couldn't really leave the school grounds. But that didn't stop you from trying to make every day feel like it mattered.
After walking aimlessly around the school, Wally finally spotted you, sprawled out on the bleachers of the football field. The sun was making your skin glow, and despite the fact that you couldn't tan anymore, you still seemed to soak up every single ray as if you were trying to relieve the feeling of it. One arm draped over your eyes, one leg over the other. Wally smiled; you always found a way to look effortlessly cool and beautiful, even in moments like this.
Wally climbed up the steps, settling on the one just below you, his eyes studying you. "We're gonna have field day in an hour," he said, his voice light. "Mr. Martin wants to do something...different. A bonfire or whatever. I don't know. Rhonda told me."
But you didn't respond. Your silence made him arch an eyebrow.
"You good?" he asked, his tone shifting to a more serious now. He wasn't too used to you being so quiet.
You opened your eyes, lazily glancing at him. “Just thinking,” you murmured, your voice soft.
“Dangerous,” he teased, though he could tell something was off. You smiled at him, rolling your eyes, but he noticed they didn't have that usual sparkle.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” He asked again, a little more worried now.
You propped yourself up, your gaze flickering to the school building for a moment before focusing back on him. “Yeah,” you said, your voice steadier this time. “I’ve just been thinking about that list we made.”
“The one with a hundred things we’re supposed to do before crossing over?” Wally asked, smirking. “We’re halfway through, but there’s still plenty of time left.”
He watched your expression closely, trying to figure out what was going through your head, but you were unreadable as ever.
You shook your head. “We haven’t really crossed off much…” You trailed off for a second, your gaze flicking to the sky before you let out a sigh. “I just feel like... days are getting boring, Wally.”
He tilted his head. “Well, let’s do something not boring, then. Something stupid.”
“Define stupid.” You raised an eyebrow.
Wally’s lips curled into that signature cocky grin. The one that always meant he was about to take things to another level.
“Number 16,” he said, his eyes gleaming.
“Do you expect me to remember?” You shot back, trying to act nonchalant, but there was a flutter of excitement in your chest.
He rolled his eyes dramatically. “Skinny dipping, dumbass.”
You froze for a moment, processing his words. Your mind raced, the idea catching you off guard. It was reckless, a little insane—but totally on brand for the two of you.
"You're serious?" you asked, staring at him with a mix of disbelief.
Wally leaned forward slightly, his voice low, his gaze burning with that familiar mischievous fire. “Dead serious.”
You couldn’t help it. A wicked smile spread across your face as you locked eyes with him. It was just a stupid thing to do. Just another one of your meaningless games. No harm in it, right?
"You're insane," you muttered under your breath, pushing yourself off the bleacher to stand right in front of him. You looked down at him, your gaze meeting his with a challenge in your eyes.
Wally just shrugged. “Yeah, well, eternity wouldn’t be fun if we weren’t at least a little bit insane.” His eyes traced the curve of your body, the unspoken tension between you both suddenly feeling palpable, thick in the air.
You swallowed, suddenly aware of the heat that seemed to spark between you both. “I swear you’ll get us caught.” You half joked, but the wild idea was starting to feel too good to back away from.
“Let’s make it quick then,” he replied. “We’ll make sure no one sees us.”
"I swear, Wally, if we get caught... I'll kill you," you warned, your voice a mix of a playful threat.
Wally chuckled, the sound low and dangerous. "You wouldn't," he teased, but there was a spark of mischief in his eyes that made your stomach flip. "Besides, it's not like anyone's out there anyway. Everyone's off by the bonfire, telling ghost stories or whatever it is they do. We're fine. I'm sure they won't miss us."
You shot him a skeptical look, doubting if you should agree to it but you craved the adrenaline more.
"Come on," he grinned, grabbing your hand. "Let's go have some fun."
The thrill and the adrenaline coursed through you as you followed him, letting him guide you through the school. Wally was always the one to get you into trouble, but you couldn't deny how much you loved it.
As you both snuck through the hallways, being very careful to avoid Rhonda, Charley, Mr. Martin, or anyone who might spot you. You both could hear the muffled sounds of chatter echoing from the field.
When you finally reached the indoor pool, Wally paused at the entrance, opening the door slowly, and scanning the room. It was empty. The sun was almost gone, and the full moon shone brightly through the roof, illuminating the pool in a way that made the entire space feel almost otherworldly.
Wally turned back to you, a grin spreading across his face. "Looks like we have the place all to ourselves."
"Good," you smiled. "Kinda wanted some alone time, y'know?"
Wally's smile grew bigger, his gaze deepening. He took a step closer to you, his eyes locked onto yours. "I was actually thinking the same thing," he said, his voice low, more intimate. There was a flicker of something between you, a feeling that had been there for a while but neither of you had ever acknowledged it. "Just you and me."
"Just you and me," you repeated slowly, the words lingering in the air between you two.
For a second, everything faded away. The pool, the school, the world—it all felt distant, like a memory. It was just you and him, standing there in the moonlit pool, the adrenaline cursing through your veins.
Wally's hand was still intertwined with yours; his touch was warm, and even though you were technically dead, you still felt alive in moments like this. His gaze never left yours as he stepped closer, his breath becoming quicker.
"You sure about this?" he asked, his voice a mix of excitement and something else, something deeper, though it was hard for you to place.
You met his gaze and smirked. "Dead serious."
Wally's lips curled into a grin, there was a flicker of something darker in his eyes and it made your pulse quicken. The weight of his gaze on you caused your head to spin, his presence was overwhelming. He leaned in, his voice lowering to a whisper that sent shivers down your spine. "Just us?"
"Mhm," you nodded, your gaze never leaving his.
There was a subtle shift in Wally's demeanor, a possessiveness in the way he looked at you, but it wasn't the kind that felt controlling, it was the kind that made you feel like he was claiming this moment, claiming you, without saying a word. The air grew heavy with the weight of unspoken thoughts, you couldn't really tell if it was the adrenaline or something else, but you felt your heart pound louder in your chest.
"Yeah?" Wally repeated, a challenging tone lacing his voice, his smile never wavered. He stepped a little bit closer, closing the distance between you, his body just a fraction of an inch from yours. You could feel the heat radiating from him, the tension between you so strong, so thick you could almost touch it.
You tilted your head slightly, feeling the weight of his gaze, how it seemed to pierce right through you, taking in every single inch of you. His pupils were wide, dark, hungry, and the intensity of his stare made your heart race faster than before.
There was no going back now.
And honestly? You did not want to.
"Yeah," you whispered, a little breathless, words barely escaping your lips.
Just you and him, no distractions, no one to come between you two, no rules, no secrets, no limits.
Just you and him.
"So...Skinny dipping?" his lips brushed against your ear, his voice now a low whisper.
This might actually be the worst idea you've ever had. You'd suggested skinny dipping as a joke, both drunk and laughing while writing the list, not actually expecting him to go forward with it.
But here you were, bodies so close you could feel the heat radiating off of him, the air thick, almost suffocating. His eyes so dark, filled with something you couldn't quite describe, but you knew this wasn't just about a dare anymore.
This wasn't just a game.
It was about to become something entirely different, something that could change everything, ruin everything, but... maybe, just maybe, you wanted it to.
