Giving battinson the big birb hug he so desperately needs š«
Dick didnāt set out to murder Zucco with the intent of being a killer. He viewed it as an unfortunate byproduct of his actions.
His real goal was to āpurge the world of criminalsā because ādarkness needs light.ā
Do you realize how unhinged that sounds? It means Robin wasnāt created from anger. It was created from the messed up psyche of a child who realized at 8 years old that the entire world needs something better than what it was given and so he went out and became it.
I cant properly explain how insane that is. Itās like putting the logic of the Joker inside the mind of child but turning it for good. Everything is falling into place now. That is why the Joker hates Dick-he is the one Robin the man couldnāt break. Literally COULDNāT because when heās facing Dick, heās facing the version of himself that would have existed if he had put himself to good. That was would break HIM.
Imagine spending the better part of your life doing your utmost worst to show Batman that people and the system are inherently evil only to have him fall head over cowl for a version of yourself to completely invalidate your reason for existing. How psychotic would you turn when you realize you have nothing to prove?
This also explains why Dick is so well adjusted and sociable in a way that Bruce and the others arenāt.
Bruce loses it when he loses his children, he thinks itās a failure of his abilities and doubts his lifeās work.
Jason loses it when he thinks heās been replaced because his reason for being is having someone care for him.
Tim loses it when he comes to a dead-end. He feels helpless and lost when he doesnāt know the next move because his reason for being is being able to solve whatās wrong.
Damian loses it when he feels abandoned. He feels hurt and broken because heās a child who wants to be loved.
The reason Dick was the perfect choice for Dark Crisis and to become the dawn of DCU is because his sole reason for being is to be the light.
That is why Bruce refused to destroy a planet when Superman asked him too. That is why Dick was the only person in the universe who could control the Darkness infecting him when even Deathstroke lost his mind to it. That is why the evil Justice League chose Dick of every one to kill-to make a point.
This is why heās looked up to by major heroes such as Superman, Wonderwoman, the Titans, the children, the villains, and the civilians.
This is why Harvey Dent called Robin Dick āBatmanās secret weapon.ā
Although anger was the baseline emotion, Dick doesnāt have anger issues because:
Robin wasnāt created for revenge. It was created with the intention of building a world so unrealistically good, that the level of the vision Richard Grayson was aiming for and set the standards for- is so terrifyingly inconceivable.
And that-is why he is a happy, feral, monster.
made a tmnt iteration for college
with lil ref sheets and everything, got a 9/10 so that was cool
(These apply to all the hedgehogs, not just Sonic!)
They're insomnicacs, thanks to being a nocturnal species forced into a mostly diurnal society. Whilst there are groups of hedgehogs who choose to live a nocturnal life with others like them, if you want to be part of general society you'll have to flip your sleep schedule.
Sonic's insomnia is even worse thanks to the energy that comes with his super speed; most nights he ends up going for intense long runs just to try tire himself out enough to get to bed. However, after particularly grueling battles, he'll drop light a log any time of day.
Amy makes sure to cover the bags under her eyes each morning, since otherwise diurnal people worry about her. 'This is normal', 'this is just what I look like when I live with you people', she'd tell them. They never listened.
You'd think Shadow would be set, living with a bat and a robot. And he mostly is, with Rouge favouring the cover of darkness anyway. However, he keeps finding himself in situations where he has to flip his sleep schedule to match. Spoonfulls of coffee beans come in handy.
Silver's future is still mostly diurnal, sadly for him. He's mostly managed to cope with it thanks to invented therapies and methods to help him adapt to the lifestyle, so it's always a stark reminder when he heads to the past and sees 'Team Messed Up Sleep Schedules'.
The rest of these will be more quickfire, since I can only fit so many hedgehog-headcannons in one post responsibly. </3 I'd delete the extra detail of the first one to match, but I can't bear to :,,)
When in an intense fight, they instinctivley huff, click, and puff their chests, with quills stood on end. It doesn't always intimidate as intended, it's moreso their violent glares that seals the deal. However, their screaming and hissing can really grate on the ears.
They're all lactose intolerent. Some choose to ignore this fact.
Occasionally they find themselves craving bugs and berries, as well as to hunt them. One of those foods is far more socially acceptable than the other. I'll let you work out which.
Really disgusting foods and smells remind them of poison, and will make them instinctevly self-anoint. Some find this funny to watch/do, but others think it's disgusting and bordeline taboo. Due to the latter, the less 'uncouth' of society mask the urge.
Their eyesight is naturally abysmal. This means that many hoglets will get lazer eye surgery as soon as it's safe, but some use glasses, contacts, or go back to their roots and rely on their ears and nose.
Winters are pretty hard for them, as their body fights to hibernate. Productivity dips in these months, combined with other hibernating people. If they can't get enough sleep, which is likely, they're likely to suffer from seasonal depression. This behaviour also kicks in when exposed to prolonged cold, so most hedgehogs prefer to only go to cold places out of necesity, or for a relaxing holiday.
They can lose their quills for a variety of reasons, including sickness or stress. It took solid days of work to clean the Resistance HQ of shedded pink quills after Amy's duty was over.
You might hear a typical persons stomach rumble when hungry, but hedgehogs will start to chirp. It's a cute noise, so those trying to keep up appearences do their best to stay well fed.
Ummm. Who was going to tell me the in The Batman (2022) Gotham City is in New York state? What happened to Gotham being in New Jersey?
This means that Metropolis isn't across the Delaware bay. No twin cities. No Metropolis in Delaware.
Most of all we miss out on the magic of Bruce struggling to get gas when out as Batman in NJ. (Like the Batmobile is low and he has to stop to get an attendant to pump his gas.) Now that has to be the real reason why this man allowed a nine year old sunshine child to come fight crime with him at night.
Battinson would rely on Dick to do a lot of 'translating' for him. Imagine all of the questions that would be able to be asked at crime scenes with a Robin who could figure out what he wanted to ask by a look or a small hum. Magic right there. 10/10. This version of Batman has so much potential to be serious and awkwardly funny at the same time.
the misinterpretation of a lonely place of dying by later retellings drives me nuts because ātim finds out who batman isā is nearly not as much of a big deal as ātim doesnt want to be robinā in the actual origin and it pretty much sums up whats wrong with modern tim drake. ALPOD is a tragic story of a twelve year old boy who had everything and willingly gave it up for a greater good. he is not like dick and jason who became robin to escape tragedy nor bruce who had everything and then lost it. robin was nothing but a curse he accepted to bear and he did so because of his selflessness. that selflessness is his driving rod, his smarts and physical talent are only the tools he uses to achieve his goals. he is not āthe smart oneā, he is a sacrificial lamb for a cause he became an unwilling spectator of. a twelve year old boy thought āpeople need saving, its that simpleā and put on the clothes a dying kid not much older than him wore because of nothing more than his selflessness and everyone he loved paid the price for it. he paid an even greater price for it.
Headcanon that the real reason all the other Justice Leaguer's avoid Gotham is because there is a running joke with the Gotham press that every hero in Gotham is either Batman, or a Robin.
Superman stops an attack drone from burning down a city block?
NOPE! News headlines read "Is Robin's new ability to fly proof he's really a vampire??"
Black Canary busts a smuggling ring?
"Batman's second female Robin. Will she last longer than the first?
Green Arrow catches a bank robber?
"Green Robin's facial hair and exactly what citizens think about it, page 3."
The definitive Sherlock Holmes alignment
One of my all-time favorite antagonist organizations in the entirety of DC is the Court of Owls, and it's a guarantee that I'll eat up anything that features them. But my favorite thing in regards to them is the fact that Dick Grayson could've very easily been a Talon.
Case and point!
I dislike the New 52 era of DC for a number of reasons, but one thing I do think they got right was specifically how they handled the Court of Owls in regards to both Bruce and Dick, and the dialogue in this sequence here is some of the best in my opinion purely because of the reveal of what could've been had Bruce been just a little later to bringing Dick into his home.
If you look at Nightwing and consider just how powerful he is on his own as an unaltered human, and if you look at the Talons and how viciously deadly they were against the various members of Batman's family, and then you combine them?
Obviously, taking into account the different way Dick would've been raised means assuming he would lose some of his leadership and detective capabilities becauseā considering that Talons are all essentially mindless assassins that have to be told what to do and when to do it at every momentā he never would've had the opportunity to be an individual, or to be a leader, or to have thoughts for himself that would allow him to problem solve.
But if we're looking at lethality specifically, substituting those features for the electrum injections that would give him superhuman healing and senses, and the training that would teach him to disregard pain and emotions would remove the human limitations that he would be otherwise restricted by.
Combined with Dick's acrobatic flexibility (assuming the Court would allow him to continue maintaining it, with its many uses and advantages), the Court's training to withstand a multitude of different circumstances in battle would turn him into one of the most useful weapons in their arsenal.
The imagery of the Talons, as seen above, is also incredibly fitting to the themes of Dick throughout the years. The most glaring and obvious of which is the bird symbolism, which I'll refrain from going into detail about because of how obvious it is.
But there is definitely a fairytale-esque quality to them with the nursery rhyme that, in my opinion, fits very well with Dick's upbringing in a circus.
Circuses are often all about maintaining a certain level of illusion, painting a picture to portray a story about each act that is, usually, exaggerated for the sake of entertainment. Similarly, the Court utilizes the belief that they're nothing more than a wives' tale to allow them to continue operating from the shadows. At the same time, the rhyme itself paints them as this otherworldly, all-knowing, all-powerful entity and dissuades any thoughts of acting against them on the off chance that someone does believe they really exist. It's whimsy, in the same way that a circus is, because they're using a story and attempting to make the most of how people receive said story.
The story parallels to Dick becoming a Talon instead of Robin also scratches a very particular itch in my brain. There are two paths, but both of them are intrinsically interwoven with Gotham and Batman.
Dick becoming Robin means him joining Batman on the side of protecting Gotham and her denizens from harm and injustice. He doesn't kill because Batman and Robin aren't the judge, the jury, and the executioner. He maintains his humanity despite the literal physical limitations of a human body and the mental and emotional burdens that come with having free thought, morals, and ethics to take into account.
But Dick becoming Talon means joining Cobb and the Court also on the side of Gotham, but from a different perspective. The Court is made up of Gotham's eliteā the rich, famous, and powerful who all want control but don't want the target on their back from being publicly in control. He'd be maintaining the skewed perception of what is just and unjust that the Court instills within him. In turn, this would mean fighting against Batman, who undeniably goes against the wishes of the Court's members who profit and benefit from the corruption of Gotham.
There is a sense of devotion that makes them different sides of the same coin, however. The Talons are tortured and brainwashed into submission, forced to ask "how high" when told to jump. Dick throughout his various comic appearances, has shown his intense loyalty to Bruceā a loyalty that rivals that same devotion of the Talons to the Court, especially in his younger years as Robin.
In conclusion to this tangent, Dick Grayson becoming a Talon was meant to happen, that is undeniable, but Bruce Wayne stepping in and stopping that (albeit unknowingly) is the only reason the Court doesn't have a near undefeatable weapon to use as they see fit.
Which just makes me wonder what other disastrous outcomes were avoided by Bruce taking in the other children.
and on a similar note, I donāt think Bruce yells except in very specific situations.
like I donāt think he yells around the house when heās annoyed or when the kids are pissing him off. heās more of a lecture guy. so much so that the kids compete every year to see who gets the longest lecture. the winner gets some sort of bat themed merch (it changes every year. last year Duke got a pair of boxers with the bat symbol across the ass)
BUT
when Bruce is scared, he gets loud. Heāll yell about āhow could you be so recklessā and how āI need you to be better than this.ā Itās how the kids know theyāve really freaked him out.
the first time Dick gets yelled at by Bruce, heās 10. He was jumping rooftops too fast and slipped. Bruce catches him by the cape, drags him back to the batmobile, and totally dresses him down.
Dick bursts into tears. Not because heās scared, but because he can feel the fear rolling off Bruce in waves. and it feels so wrong for Bruce to be that scared because heās The Batman and heās not supposed to be scared of anything.
anyway. Bruceās fear is loud.
