This feels like a break from form. In this case we got someone explicitly feeding on fear and seeking more out, whereas others had someone drawn in, lured, without the fear being super explicit.

I don't know if Needles is exactly an avatar, but they seem like a vector of fear more than any other statement characters so far.

Also...no one at the OIAR was really scared of this guy who was deliberately trying to elicit fear. FASCINATING.

i've seen the sentiment before that chester's first incident reading was very much a "DON'T GO TO THE FUCKING MAGNUS INSTITUTE" message. but now with this one... i think it's highly likely that chester is actively encouraging sam to get more entrenched in this mystery.

this week's incident was pulled up in direct response to sam considering dropping his investigations while talking to celia. a convenient "but wait, there's more! i promise there's not just dead ends!" to keep sam hooked, to draw him (and alice in tow) back to the institute.

which, of course, brings up the question once again of what the fuck chester (and norris and augustus) is (and what its relations to our favorite archivist are) which is not a question we can answer yet but oh i am so excited to find out. at least, i think the idea that chester is directly jon, or.. i dunno, his ghost or whatever, is not supported by this.

this new incident also imo reframes the potential “intent” behind the redcanary incident. from a warning of stay away to a warning of this is dangerous, but there’s so much more to be investigated here. imo.. a be ready for it. i think whatever chester is it wants sam to investigate the institute, but not die in doing so.

For all non-uk magnus protocol listeners I need you to know that Mr Bonzo is a 100% real thing (asides from the murder stuff... I think...) which existed as a skit on UK television. he was called Mr Blobby but it was literally the exact same thing. from the weird voice to the freaky character to design to the failed theme parks (blobbyland was a thing) even to the number 1 hit. PLEASE look if you haven't seen this before
