The Indian Javan Rhinoceros Was Often Mistaken For The Greater One-horned Rhinoceros Due To Their Coexistence

Omura's Whale Little is known about this whale because was until 2003 that it was thought to be a smaller form of the Bryde's Whale. The description was made public in Nature, a British scientific weekly journal by three Japanese scientist. They determine the existence of the new specimen by DNA analysis. It was later discovered that its closest relative might be the Blue Whale. It is one of the smallest species of rorqual.

Searching for images of this whale I saw a few videos of the whale eating and it was amazing. I never thought this size o f animal could be so fast.

Whales are divided into three families. This is the second and biggest: the Balaenopteridae, which contains the biggest animal that ever inhabits the earth. However, we will start with its smallest member but also the fastest: the Mink Whale. This is the most common whale and is probably due to its not being commonly hunted by humans. Its size is too small (about 10m) and does not have enough oil yield, so hunting it is not worth it. Nonetheless, the hunting of this whale has increased.

Its name is confusing because it was first confused and classified wrongly. Its name is derived from the Norwegians who usually refer to any type of small whale as Minkie or Minkies' hval.

The Dwarf Mink Whale was described as a new subspecies not long ago and it is not sure yet if is one. Still has not scientific name. Mink Whale in captivity.

Mink whale has been tried to keep in captivity in Mito Aquarium, in Japan a few times. Most of the specimens died in few weeks while in 1956, the last one was able to scape a net aquarium after 37 days spinning the pool in the same direction.

Out of all the animals I've studied and illustrated, dolphins have left the strongest impression on me. Although I didn't know much about them at first, I'm now captivated by their unique shapes and vibrant colors. Learning about these creatures has been a truly delightful experience.

Long-Beaked Common Dolphin

The Long-Beaked Common Dolphin has been a topic of controversy in the past, as it was initially believed to be the same species as the Short Beaked Common Dolphin. However, they are now recognized as distinct species within the same family (Delphinidae). These dolphins are likely the most widespread species in the world.

This particular subspecies is exclusively found close to the shores of Africa and is larger and heavier than its counterparts that are found in various locations around the world.

Ignorance is bliss but is also fear.

Working on this project many times keeps me thinking about the impact we have over the life we share the world with. Humanity has been ignorant mostly of all of its existence, and whatever we used to fear, our answer, our instinct is to eliminate it. Now we think more before we act (some) and we discover that many times our fears are just funded. And we are learning to care about what we used to fear and to price what surrounds us, instead of thinking that they are there to serve us. Unfortunately, for some is just too late. This population of tigers is believed extinct in the wild since not a sign of this animal has been reported since the late 1980s. There are programs trying to regrow the population in China and also in Africa. Its numbers are less than 200 and the reproduction programs have shown little success. The animals often present inbreeding depression and low genetic diversity. Before its extinction, the animal wasn't deeply studied in the wild so little is known about its natural behavior. It used to be listed as a subspecies but this recognition was based on the study of just five skulls. Baja California Pronghorn, Peninsular Pronghorn

Pronghorn are very special animals. They are the only animals that have a mixture between antlers and horns. Horns are made of keratin mostly and have only one point. Antlers, on the other hand, are made of bone and shed every year. The horns of the pronghorn are made of both keratin and bone that are shed as antlers, every year.

During the colonization, pronghorns were even more numerous than bison. It is said that their herds get lost on the horizon, they were as vast as the sight could see. It was estimated that more than 100 million pronghorns inhabited North America. However, by 1920 their numbers dropped to 13.000. Today, all five subspecies are endangered and the number of Baja California Pronghorn is estimated at about 150.

I never put much attention to this animal. Somehow, I never found it attractive. Since I am reading about them I think they are amazing. Along with the bison, the pronghorn shaped the evolution of humans in North America, providing food and shelter.

Nubian Wild Ass Equus africanus africanus Family: Equidae Status and Conservation: Critically Endangered

This animal, resembling the Somali Wild Ass, lacks leg stripes but features a distinctive stripe along its back.

Once thought extinct in the wild since the 1970s,. Love this one! More from the Felidae family. The turn now is for the biggest in America. Jaguar At first glance, Jaguars and Leopards are not so easy to differentiate. They are like two brothers. One's appearance, the leopard, looks more graceful and stylized. While the Jaguar has a more bulky body and its legs are shorter. One is agile while the other one is made to wrestle. However, the biggest difference is that the leopard lives in Africa, Asia, and Oceania, while the Jaguar is found in America.
