Eisen stumbled out of the doorway and straightened his coat, grumbling obscenities under his breath. So what if he'd gotten into a disagreement? Hans was meant to be his pal, and Eisen thought they were past the point of the unilateral I-dont-care-who-started-it punishments they used to dole out back in grammar school.
If Hans had even an ounce of deductive reasoning skill he'd have been able to see, clearly, that the fat bastard had struck first. Eisen was merely acting in self defence.
He looked at his assailant, who was dabbing the purple blood welling up at his right temple with a handkerchief.
He was from the Kehrseite, which would've been obvious even if he wasn't bleeding, given his glowing eyes and the fact that he had to duck to get through the tavern door. He looked about Eisen's age, which meant in actuality he was probably at least 250 years old.
Eisen could never remember if a year in the other world was worth 7 or 10 years on earth.
The stranger blinked and shook his head.
"I think you gave me a concussion," he said flatly.
"Aye, well I reckon you broke my nose."
The stranger grumbled something that sounded like 'it could’ve been much worse' before folding his handkerchief up and putting it in his pocket.
"It matches your suit now," Eisen smirked.

"Hilarious," the stranger said in a tone that indicated the opposite.
Eisen responded with a two-fingered salute.
He heard once about a friend of a friend, or something like that, who got into a row with a good Neighbour and had ended up infertile afterwards. Or maybe blind. It was one or the other. Stories like that were common, but Eisen always assumed they were bollocks. The only advantage the stranger had that Eisen could see was that he was bigger, but he still reckoned he could take him. Eisen was a far cry from the wiry little rat he'd been back when he started college. Three years on the Grasshoff social rugby team, and another two training with the Feverite militia had considerably built up his muscle mass. Plus, there was an iron sign hanging from the wall above the door, and the nails holding it in were rusty. A simple deconstruction spell would detach it from the brick, some basic legerdemain would adjust its trajectory in the direction Eisen wanted. Even being 2 metres tall and 160-odd kilos (as Eisen would guess the stranger was) didn't make you immune to head trauma.

so what if I kept going on that Eisen flashback drabble. and what if I'm writing a prequel novella. what then
