See No Evil, Hear No Evil {1}

Couples were dancing around the space that had earlier been occupied by long tables for the feast, their joyous smiles twisting your gut with jealousy. No one would ask you to join them, not when you could not hear the very music that set the pace.

Returning your attention to the table that you were seated at, you watched the men and women intently. Some glared at you when they caught your eyes on them, waving their hand as if it could blow you out of sight and out of mind. Moving on to the next, you found a single blue eye staring back.

Prince Aemond. He was another social outcast, though his personality was as much to blame as the jagged scar that ran through his left eye. There was always a taunting smirk on his lips and a cold gleam in his eye, it sent the courtiers vying for the hand of anyone but him. Not even the power hungry, attention seekers dared to subject themselves to his viperous nature.

His brother captured his attention and whatever spell had kept you enthralled with his stare broke. The two Targaryen princes leaned together and Aemond’s lips pursed as Aegon spoke with nervous mannerisms that warned you they would have been whispering, but you could read his lips.

“There is something desirable about a silent woman,” Aegon said as his eyes flickered your way. “But I would do anything to make her scream.”

Aemond’s lips pulled back with a sneer before he answered, “I can only imagine the depravities that fill your mind.”

“I do not think you have the creativity needed to imagine them, little brother.”

“Thank the gods for that blessing,” Aemond said as he leant back. “She is too intelligent for you anyhow.”

“Intelligent?” Aegon rocked back with a laugh that drew the others’ attention to him. “She cannot hear and does not speak.”

Aemond turned his eye back to you. “Then she must see a great deal, for there is definitely intelligence behind those eyes.”

“Then I would face her down when I bed her.”

You looked away and wrapped your fingers around the silver goblet so they were occupied and the trembling was hopefully unnoticeable. You had expected no better of the eldest son of the King, he was known to stick his fingers in many pies - though sometimes he didn’t stop at his fingers.

You might have been deaf to the tales the maids spoke of as they prepared you but you saw everything from the tears in their eyes to the bruises barely hidden by their uniforms. Just the thought of Aegon even noticing you had a knot twisting in your stomach.

Pushing the velvet-lined chair back, you rose from the table and nodded silently to the sickly Viserys. He gave a weak dismal wave of his hand that rested on the arm of his chair and you pressed your fingertips to your chin in return, thanking him for permitting your leave. After flattening the layers of skirts that had creased beneath the table, you laced your fingers together and ignored the two stares that watched your retreat from the dining room.

The feeling of spiders dancing down your spine didn’t ease, even after you had snaked your way through Red Keep to the atheneum. There would normally be a maester wandering the quiet halls full of books, organising the rows into alphabetical fashion and finding requested pieces for others, but with the late hour it was empty.

The scent of dust and beeswax greeted you as you closed the door behind you. Someone had been waxing a leather bound book cover and the yellow bar had been left beside a half shiny cover as if they might return at any moment. Walking over to the small table, you opened the cover to see what the book was and found it to be a personal journal of Aegon the Conqueror.

Warmth touched your nape and your lips parted with a sharp intake of breath as you spun around, your legs tangling in the skirts and your hip hitting the table with a sharp jolt of pain. Aemond stepped back with a smirk, his hands raised in innocence that was betrayed by the amusement in his eye.

“Apologies,” he said. “I did not mean to startle you.”

You rubbed your palm over the bruise that would no doubt be forming and narrowed your eyes at the blatant lie. “I shall rephrase, I did not mean for you to get hurt.” Aemond’s smirk grew until his lips parted and his shoulders bounced with a laugh. “I know you can understand me.”

He reached for you and you froze at the closeness, and his scent that washed over you as his hair nearly brushed your cheek. He smelt of the woods you had run through as a child, pine and earth, fresh and rich. Then there was the fruity yet tarty hint of wine that followed as he exhaled slowly, as if he had taken an equally long inhale of the floral perfume you wore.

As quick as he had come for you, he was gone, Aegon’s journal with him and you let out a shuddering breath as you realised you were not the object he had been reaching for. He seemed to take pleasure in the confusion on your face as he smirked once again and tucked the novel under his arm with a mocking bow.

His eye lingered on your hip as he straightened. “Take care, milady.”

You could not breathe again until the door sealed shut but you no longer felt the calm that you usually found in the athenium, the books no longer welcoming as the tall shelves towered above you with their dark shadows. Angered by the effect Aemond had in your place of sanctuary, you swiped a book from the closest shelf and made for your chambers and the thick lock bolt that you could hide behind.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil {1}

The courtyard was busier than usual as you took a seat on a stool against the Keep walls. The airy space had become a favourite place to sit since you were not allowed to leave the high red brick walls without an escort. Since this was not your House territory you had to rely upon King Viserys’ white cloaked guards but you did not wish to make a fuss so you had not utilised the soldiers.

The sky was blue and the clouds that had blanketed the city at dawn were quickly evaporated by the heat and it enticed many others to step into the sunshine. Pulling your small bound notebook from the pocket in your skirt, you unwrapped a stick of coal and looked around for something to catch your eyes. The twin guards, Arryk and Erryk, were huddled close as they entered through the gates and your hand moved across the page.

E: She paid another maid to leave last night in the cover of darkness. That is the fourth this month. A: What did you expect? Bastards don’t belong in the Keep. E: Someone needs to stop him. A: Careful, brother, what you speak could be considered treason.

They disappeared deeper into the Keep and you read over the dialogue trying to understand what they had been talking of when a shadow passed over the page. You slammed the book closed and looked up, momentarily blinded by the bright sun reflecting off the head of long silvery white hair.

The stick of coal had fallen to the dirt in your rush to hide the page and Aemond crouched before you to gather it, holding it out in his palm. Your eyes lingered on the calluses from hours of training and the thin scars that littered the skin that peeked out from under his tunic.

You had not seen him since the incident in the atheneum and you had forgotten the connection that had seemed palpable in the days gone by but now you were once again caught by his eye. You had failed to notice the flecks of violet in the pale blue iris when you last saw them but that was in a dimly lit room, in the sun they were almost iridescent.

It wasn’t until he took your hand and unfurled your fingers that you realised how long you had stared, breaking away with embarrassment as he placed the coal into your palm. The hairs on your nape rose under the intensity of the moment and you curled your fingers around the coal gently so as not to crush your writing tool. You slipped the coal back into your pocket and pressed your fingers to your chin.

“You’re welcome,” he replied with a small smile. He reached for your face and your breath froze in your lungs as he ran his thumb softly across jaw. “Can’t have a smudge of coal hiding your beauty.”

You were certain you read his lips wrong but the flutter in your chest betrayed your common sense and a smile tugged at your lips. His eye followed the curve of your smile and he had to shake his head to clear his thoughts before rising to his feet.

“Care to walk with me, milady?”

You could feel eyes on you as the crowd snooped to see why the One Eyed Prince would be talking to you. You had long ago learned to ignore the stares but for some reason that seemed a harder task today. Tucking your notebook away, you accepted his offer with a nod and let him lead the way to the Royal gardens that were usually off limits.

“I must admit, you intrigue me,” Aemond said after stopping beneath the weirwood tree and facing you. “You and your notebook that you carry everywhere.”

You automatically pressed your hand to the reassuring weight and frowned, wondering where this was leading to.

“May I see it?”

Your fingers tightened around it and you shook your head adamantly. A heat flared across your skin at the thought of him reading your notes and looking at the drawings that you attempted. He appeared within the pages far too often for your own liking.

“As prince, I could demand it of you,” he said as he stepped closer. The wind changed and caught his hair, flicking wayward strands over his shoulder and the scent of lemon verbena shampoo drifted your way along with the purely masculine musk of sweat from training.

You walked away, needing to clear your senses that he overpowered much like his very presence in the garden. The notebook suddenly seemed like an anchor and each step was heavy as you took a seat on the edge of a long bench in the shade. From the corner of your vision you saw Aemond sit at the other end, the entire length separating him from you.

Tap, tap, tap.

Your fingers tingled with the vibrations as they rested atop the bench beside your legs.

Tap, tap, tap.

You turned to face Aemond and found his smirk growing as he used his fingernail to tap and scratch the wood.

“You can feel that, can’t you?”

You nodded your head and his smile grew, transforming his face and erasing the harsh lines that were usually shaped with a scowl. You startled with the realisation that you found him handsome and your palms grew warm as you wiped them on your dress that was suddenly too heavy for the spring weather.

Tap, tap, tap.

You were pulled from your thoughts and looked back at the prince, hoping he could not see the effect he had on you but the intensity to his stare made you feel naked, as if every thought you ever had was laid bare for him to read.

His lips parted with a sharp intake and he leant closer, though he was still far from reach as he mouthed the word, “Beautiful.”

See No Evil, Hear No Evil {1}

There was something therapeutic in being around the horses and you often found yourself wandering into the stables. The servants and stableboys no longer sent you odd looks as they grew used to your presence most days and you were grateful to be left in solitude as you combed the black and grey haired stallion that had caught your eye.

You had just placed the comb back on the hook that hung beside the gate when you felt vibrations in the wood beneath your hand.

Tap, tap, tap.

Stunned, you turned to find Aemond resting against the gate with a lazy smile on his face.

“I hope you aren’t planning on stealing my horse, gorgeous.”

You rolled your eyes and didn't dignify him with an answer as you reached into your skirt pockets and found the carrot you had stolen from dinner the night before. Aemond’s shadow followed you as he opened the gate and stepped inside the stall, his hand landing gently on your shoulder so you were aware of where he was, as if you hadn’t been keeping track.

“No wonder Storm was slow to gallop,” Aemond said as he faced you from the other side of his horse, his hand petting down the long mane. “You have been spoiling him.”

You kept your palm flat as you Storm’s lips pulled back and he greedily took the carrot. The name suited the horse with his colourings of the turbulent stormy skies and you scratched his ear while he finished his snack.

“As much as I enjoy hearing my own voice, there must be another way for us to communicate.” Aemond stepped around the front of Storm and you frowned as you no longer felt the urge to back away from him as you had in the past. “Teach me the signs I have seen you do.”

You were shocked by his request even though you knew him to be an intellect and a scholar, the fact that he spent so many mornings training to be a warrior seemed to fill you with the idea that he was more brute than student. Your nursemaid had been the one to help you create the secret language but it had never really expanded past what a child might need to convey. You had relied upon written communication but that was only useful with the highborns who were educated, unfortunately most of the servants were illiterate.

Reaching into your pocket, you pulled out the notebook you were never without and tore out a blank page before he could see what secrets the book held. He watched as your handwriting sprawled across the page and you could see his chest bouncing with a laugh before he took it from you.

He slipped the note into the folds of his cloak with an amused smile, not at all offended by the message you had given him. You smell. Bathe first, then I will teach you.

“I shall meet you in the library, milady, after bathing of course.” He bowed at the waist though his eye never left you and you didn’t see the mocking smile he had given you the last time he had made the gesture. The pale blue orb seemed to zero in on the pulse at your neck, as if he could see how rapidly it raced in his intense presence. “I shall see you soon.”

See No Evil, Hear No Evil {1}

Three Months Later

You had seen neither hide nor hair of Aemond as you strolled the halls of the Keep, the tourney for his brother’s name day was about to begin and you did not wish to enter the highborn box alone. Giving up hope on finding him, you followed the few other ladies who were late and slipped into the back row in the hopes your presence would go unnoticed.

The bench seat kept shifting as ladies rose with their garlands, tossing the favours to the lords who asked in hopes they might win their challenge with the luck. Each time they moved you cursed inwardly and settled your heart that pounded erratically, wishing the entire event be over with.

You were tracing the embroidered floral design on your skirts when a hand waved in front of your face and you nearly fell back in fright. The only person you knew it wasn’t was Aemond, he knew to touch your shoulder to get your attention so as not to give you a heart attack. Peering up as you clutched your chest, you found Lady Reyne looking apologetic as she pointed to the front where the jousting course was set.

Aemond sat atop his horse, patiently waiting with a smile as he caught your eyes. A thousand questions ran through your head as you rose from the bench and clutched the favour of woven asters and budding chrysanthemums to your breast. You could feel the eyes of the entire crowd following your steps down to the front of the highborn box and past King Viserys, but there was only one that held you captive.

“May I ask for your favour, milady?”

You nodded with a smile, grateful that you had taken his advice to make the flower crown. When he said that someone may ask one of you, your head had fallen back with a silent laugh before you shook your head, but he had insisted and you could not deny him.

Casting the favour out, it twirled down the length of his jousting pole until it reached his hand. His smile was brighter than the sun as he pulled at the reins of his stallion and made his way to the lists. His mother caught your hand with a gentle smile as you passed by and she patted the space beside her in invitation.

You ringed your fingers nervously as you watched Aemond’s armour shimmer in the sunlight while his horse paced, awaiting the drop of the flag to begin the match. Alicent placed her hand over yours, unclenching them and lacing them with hers as she fretted over her son. You could tell she liked the idea of seeing her son facing a jousting opponent as much as you did. You had seen the heinous injuries one could get in the sport.

Alicent patted your hand and you tore your eyes away from Aemond to look at her as she said, “He will be fine, dear. Aemond is one of the best.”

You nodded and hoped it looked reassuring before you noticed the flag drop. Aemond kicked his boots in the stirrups and his horse took off, kicking a spray of sand up behind him. You barely breathed as he raced along the fence and levelled out his pole, his opponent doing the same. Time seemed to slow as the poles crossed each other and crashed wood against armour, shattering into splinters.

The air in your lungs exploded from you as you jumped to your feet and rushed to the rail to see Aemond still atop his horse. His opponent was sprawled across the sand but Aemond paid him no mind as he circled back to the rail where you waited and pulled his helmet from his head before shaking out his long hair that was mussed up.

“Is your heart still in your chest?” Aemond asked as he looked up at you, amusement teasing a smirk on his lips.

You pointed to yourself and curled your fingers over your face before pointing to him, his lips parting with a laugh that shook his shoulders.

“Why are you mad at me? I won.”

Waving him off, you noticed the next opponents were arriving to request their favours and he shot them a dirty look as they interrupted you.

“Meet me in the library.”

You nodded and moved away as two ladies reached the railing, missing the smile Alicent had after watching the interaction.

The tourney would continue all day so it was no surprise to find the athenium empty when you arrived and took a seat on the plush settee. The stained glass windows cast a colourful shadow across the stone floor and you reached into your pocket for your notebook and coal to capture the image.

You were just finishing with the shading and smudging the shadows onto the parchment with your fingertip when you felt the air shift around your face. A smile was already pulling on your lips when you looked up to find Aemond dressed once more in his finery and his hair still damp from bathing. The citrus tart of his soap teased your nose and you reached for him as you closed your book.

He let you pull him onto the cushioned seat beside you and chuckled to himself as you ran your hands over his fitted shirt before he caught your hands. “I am unharmed.”

You narrowed your eyes at him until he released your hands to continue to make their own assessment. When you were satisfied that he was not just trying to placate you, you shuffled closer and slipped under his arm that he opened for you in invitation.

While waiting for his arrival you had been wondering how you could return the gesture he had made for you in front of the entire city and he could sense your unrest as you shifted in your seat. Unable to look him in the eye, you grabbed your notebook and placed it on his lap.

His fingers traced your jaw and turned you to face him so you could see what he had to say. “Are you sure?”

You nodded before you lost your courage and he carefully opened the bound covering as if it were an invaluable, fragile piece of history. He treated it knowing how you cherished it.

You did not look to see what pages he perused, some drawings and some snippets of passing conversations, but instead watched his reactions. With each turn of the page you knew what he would find and your nervousness grew. The drawings of Red Keep and the Royal Gardens would soon change and he would see himself through your eyes.

It had not taken long for him to become your muse, in fact in the last few months it had become an addiction. There was not a day that passed where you didn’t want to capture his likeness, sometimes it was when the sunlight caught his hair or the smile that he reserved just for you.

His lips parted with surprise and you knew he had reached the moment you had first given in to your desire and drawn him content in the gardens. Your palms turned clammy and your heart threatened to beat right out of your chest as he turned each page until he reached the last and closed it.

You swallowed the lump in your throat as he turned to you and you saw his eye shimmering with unshed tears. Of all the reactions, that was not one that you could have expected. Aemond was always so collected and cool until you had peeled back the layers of his self-protection but this was the last mask to fall away.

You reached for his cheek, cupping the warm skin as you wiped away the single tear that escaped before he closed his eye and leaned into the touch.

“Thank you,” he said as he opened his eye again, blinking away the rest of the tears before they could fall. “No one draws my eyes.”

You frowned at the statement and he sighed from the heavy breath of air that brushed over your skin. “The artists who take our portraits do so from my right, this,” he tapped his leather eye patch, “makes them uncomfortable.”

Tears welled in your own eyes as you saw the pain he still felt though the wound had long healed. Though it was compromising, you rose to your knees and straddled his legs, shock flitting across his face before fear seeped in as you reached for the leather patch.

“It is not pretty, milady.”

You circled your palm over your chest and you thought he would deny your plea for permission as he pursed his lips but then he bowed his head with a nod.

His eye stared intently at you as you traced your finger over the leather that had been warmed by his body heat. The smooth material was softer than you thought it would be as you eased it from his head and bared his scar for the first time. Your breath rushed through your parted lips as you saw the crude line that had carved through his eyebrow, down his eye and across his cheek.

He turned away and your heart clenched as he hid himself from you but he had to know, it wasn’t the scar that caused your reaction, you were horrified at how he had been hurt so badly. Cradling his cheeks in your hands, you gently guided him back to you but still he refused eye contact.

There was only one way you could show him how you felt and your stomach fluttered at the thought as you pulled him closer and pressed your lips to his cheek, just below the scar. His breath warmed your shoulder as he shuddered beneath your touch and you kissed him a little higher, grazing the skin that changed from smooth to raised. The tension in his shoulders relaxed with each soft kiss and when you pulled back you were able to admire the sapphire that replaced his missing eye without him turning away.

“Are you not repulsed?”

Your brows knitted together in confusion as you shook your head and stood up, instantly missing the warmth of his hands where they had rested on your hips. He watched curiously as you grabbed your notebook from where he had placed it and fished your pockets for the coal. Though you wanted to sit close to him it was not the right place for what you wanted to do and so you took a seat on the settee opposite.

Not liking how far you were away either, he tried to stand and join you but the stern finger you pointed at him had him sinking back into the cushions while you found a blank page. He remained still as you captured his likeness on the page and the colourful shadows of the stained glass window reached his hair.

You knew of merchants that could recreate colours with ochre and malachite collected from Essos but even with your family’s wealth the rare minerals remained out of reach. You were left with the common sticks of coal and on your name day you often received the finer illustrator of graphite.

Satisfied by the portrayal, from the long strands of hair that were now dry to the strong jawline that had felt better than imagined in your hands, you rose from the chair. Aemond welcomed you back into his arms and eagerly looked at the page that was still open. His throat bounced with the swallow he took and you chewed on your bottom lip as you waited with bated breath.

He turned slowly so you could see his lips before he spoke, “This is how you see me?”

You looked at the picture and smiled at the face of a confident, handsome young man as he faced the world without having to hide. Looking back at Aemond, you placed your hand over his heart and nodded.

His arms pulled you closer as he dipped his head and your body trembled in anticipation. Every nerve ending flared to life when his lips caressed yours ever so softly and your hands tangled in his hair as you returned the kiss with more force. You could feel his smile against you before he gave you what you needed and deepened the kiss, stealing your breath until you broke away feeling lightheaded.

His thumb traced your tingling lips as you slipped back into the seat, tucked under his arm, and you saw his kiss-swollen lips. You imagined yours looked the same and heat flooded you with the thought of being caught in the compromising state. A sliver of panic grew in your chest, if rumours spread then you would be shamed from your family so you scampered from the chair and brushed your hands over your skirts.

Alarm erupted from Aemond at the sudden change and he watched you right yourself, hurt haunting his blue eye before he too rose. “Please do not regret what we shared.”

You froze, your jaw dropping at what he had mistaken your fear as and against your better judgement, you launched yourself at him, wrapping your arms around his narrow waist as you shook your head. He curled himself around you until you felt entirely enveloped by his arms and his scent as he buried his face in your neck.

Pulling away reluctantly, he took your hand and placed it on his chest so you could feel the thunderous beat of his heart as it raced. “This belongs to you and I am yours if you will have me.”

His face blurred as tears welled in your eyes, the fierce nod of your head sending them cascading down your cheeks until he wiped them away with a proud smile.

“I thought of another sign,” he said as he lifted his right hand up so his palm faced you before tucking his middle and ring finger back down. “When you see this, know that I love you.”

You raised your own hand and watched his tremble as you admitted what had been growing with each passing day since that first walk in the gardens. I love you.

"Are...?" Your gaze shifted your gaze to look towards Eddie as the rest of his sentence died down on his tongue,

"Hmm?" You hummed in questioning, ignoring the movie playing on your television.

Eddie Munson was nothing like you had expected. The two of you went to the same middle school but never shared the same classes- you'd only heard about his insane antics and theatrics, sometimes even seeing him messing around during lunch. He built this weirdo reputation that sometimes came off as intimidating, so you never really went near him. It wasn't until High School that something changed for you...

It was definitely the hair... Maybe his confidence too. Although jarring at first, it was honestly like a breath of fresh air compared to how uptight and 'one dimensional' your peers were. Were they enjoyed their parties and sports and pep rallies and ragers, you favoured the wilder bunch- the outcasts and the misfits.

It began when you started occasionally helping Eddie in his math and history- since you shared those same classes- and he helped you with English. Even if his methods were unconventional, you much preferred them to any teacher you've ever had. He'd make you conjure up some fantasy world with its own rules and physics and characteristics. He makes you think up the strangest characters and wouldn't settle for your 'Bob of The Fields' in 'Normallia'. His efforts proved successful when your teacher began praising your work, though Eddie's praise meant more to you than a passing grade. As the stories got more complicated with their intricacies and details, he'd help by pointing out plot holes and mistakes. He was honestly phenomenal- no doubt due to playing Dungeons and Dragons so much.

You'd never been crazy about the game. You'd only heard some things in passing but always assumed the game was only accessible to some freaky nerds who had nothing better to do with their free time. So it surprised you that Eddie wasn't a nerd at all... Freaky, yeah... He sure made the Hellfire Club seem like some exclusive VIP club- the way he'd gush about his campaigns to you in the beginning. You'd always thought it was cute. He'd get this spark in his eyes that made them shine with giddiness and excitement- his energy always spiked up and he'd become more animated than usual. And you'd be lying to yourself if his constant chatter about the club didn't make you at least a tiny bit interested.

He did eventually ask you to join. You had been planning on coming to a session to surprise him but your fear got the best of you. After all, you knew nothing about it- just that it was on Thursdays after school. Besides, you were already hanging out with him more than enough, what if he caught on to your crush? He finally asked when one time, you had forgotten to do your English homework the night before, being preoccupied with chores and taking care of your siblings, and were rushing to get it done before class,

"Hey so uh..." He spoke up from where he sat across from you, breaking your focus. When you looked up, he was half laying on the little picnic table way out in the woods. As you met his gaze, he sat up straight, bouncing a little in his seat. You hummed as an indication for him to go on, and then turned back to your homework. He didn't respond, but you could hear the wrinkling of paper next to you. You glanced up at him to see he had pulled a piece of paper from his bag and slid it over to you. Quickly scanning it you looked back at him confused,

"Was this part of this assignment?" You asked, feeling your heart drop. You knew this lunch period was coming to an end soon, so knowing you'd have to rush and complete another form before it ended only added more pressure,

"No, no," He quickly assured you, "It's a character sheet," He said, moving his arms out then back in, clasping them together as he watched your confused expression,

"A character wha?" You asked confused. He smiled at you then ducked his head, looking down momentarily,

"It's for Dungeons and Dragons. You make your own characters and then you role play as them. I just finished the new campaign I told you about a few days ago- we're gonna be playing on Thursday after class," He explained. So that's what he was scribbling away in his notebook the whole time. He wasn't usually so quiet during your hangouts, "I... Thought that maybe you'd wanna join this time?" He offered, "Instead of listening to my pitiful recreations. You know... Experience it for yourself?" He smiled,

"In your Hellfire Club?" You asked for clarification,

"That's the one," He clicked his fingers. You looked back down, looking over the chart and feeling your face contort with confusion as you focused on all the different boxes,

"Strength, dexterity-" you read out loud,

"Yeah so- the way you figure those out is-" Your head snapped up from the paper to the sound of the school bell in the distance,

"Shit- gimmie a sec Eddie," You said, quickly scribbling a few more sentences down in your English book as you heard him shifting around and packing his stuff,

"I can always cover for you saying you went to the bathroom," He offered, and you looked up to see him putting his jean jacket back on. Slightly mesmerised, you glanced back to his face, where he quirked his brow at you. Blushing, you nodded, going back to your work,

"Thanks, Ed, don't know what I'd do without you," You said, in a quieter, more mumbly tone than you'd wanted. You continued quickly writing away in your book, and upon moving your other hand to the table, you heard a slight rustle. Looking at the empty character sheet, you glanced back to where he was leaving, "Hey Eddie, you left this!" You called after him. Watching him momentarily run back out of the forest clearing made you smile, as you waved the paper,

"Oh! No that's for you- I can teach you how to fill it in after class today!" He said, "Room 240-B!" He added, running back through the trees. Glancing back at the paper in your hands, you smiled softly.

It had been the first time you'd actually hung out together- creating your character from scratch was more fun than you had expected. In fact, you never realised how fun the game was until that Thursday. The night before, you squealed and kicked your legs at the idea of spending your whole afternoon with Eddie. The evening went great- the other two players greeted you pleasantly as you entered and offered as much help as you needed with the rules and way the game worked before you started. Eddie was slightly late because of a detention, but soon arrived. In truth, it was he who sold the whole thing for you.

You clearly knew he was theatrical before playing- with the snippets of funky antics and theatrical nature you experienced in your tutoring sessions as well as in class, and paired with his unabashed confidence he truly shone. He was clearly in his element as the 'Dungeon Master', making you feel genuinely excited for the game. Seeing him so happy made your heart flutter, along with a happy warmth you hadn't felt in a while settling in your chest. Not to mention the smiles he kept giving you whenever it was your turn. It reached his eyes and made them sparkle, even in the low moody lighting. The whole campaign was euphoric. Escaping to another world and going on an adventure with Eddie? It sounded like a dream come true... Perhaps it was then that you realised you were in love with him?

When the game had ended, you didn't expect to feel so sad. Seeing that it had been almost three hours since school ended shocked you, and as you made your way out of the school, you happily said your farewells to the other club members. You left school with a bright smile on your lips that wouldn't leave, and when Eddie offered to drop you off at your house since it was getting dark you felt overjoyed. You tried your best to articulate how much fun you had, but the words escaped you. You kept reassuring him it was fun though, and you found him only grinning back at you

You quickly became a permanent member of the club, even helping them design their T-Shirts. You noticed you began to hang out with Eddie more, where your affection for one another blossomed.

It was one day, about seven months ago, when he'd invited you over to his trailer that you confessed your feelings for one another. It was a couple of weeks before the end of the year and you found yourself overwhelmed with the workload and your chaotic home life. You'd only been over at his trailer a few times, but it was by far more quiet than home. You were sat on his bed, and with a sigh, you dropped your pen into the open spine of your book and leaned back on his sheets. You took in his familiarly delightful scent immediately as it surrounded you, and your face fixed itself with a blissful smile,

"You alright?" Eddie's voice asked. He was sitting on his messy floor in a section of space he had cleared out for himself. You felt the bed move slightly as his head leaned back against the mattress near your thigh,

"Uhuh- yeah. I finally finished this assignment," You said, satisfied as you closed your book on the pen and sat up, throwing the book away from you on the floor. You sighed loudly as you pressed the heels of your palms into your eyes and rubbed your tired eyes, "Jesus Christ it's like she wants us to write fuckin' novels every time," You sighed,

"At least she gives a weekend and a day for us to finish it," He said, and you felt the bed dip next to you, indicating he had moved to sit next to you, ignoring his own work. Considering how long you had known each other for by now, you would say you were comfortable with your friendship. You gently leaned back, setting your head on his shoulder and looking down at the object in his hands. He had picked up your discarded English book and was skimming over the words you had written,

"And a day..." You repeated with a sigh. You groaned slightly as you stretched your arms and torso, before shifting to lean your back straight against the wall letting it stretch there. You watched him for a few moments. His warm brown eyes shifted around as they read your words, his smooth skin, gently blotted by minature freckles you could only see this from close, the soft pink tint of his parted lips. Subconsciously, you moved your tongue over your own lips, wetting them slightly as you continued to closely watch him, until his head turned to you,

"It's a really good, strong ending," He said with a smile, and you blushed as his eyes met yours, shining with a twinkle- the telltale sign of his excitement. With how good he was at make-believe, Eddie was a shitty liar. He was telling the truth now, "I like how you made who the killer was ambiguous enough to keep the reader entertained and guessing but didn't say who it obviously was so it's still fun to guess," He said, moving to lean his head against the wall next to you,

"You think?" You said with a smile, "D'you not think that kinda stuff is annoying? Withholding information?" You asked, "You really wouldn't prefer for me to just say 'this guy did it- he's guilty as shit!'"

"Not at all," He assured, "In fact, I like it more. I personally think it would have sucked if you just.  said 'And the killer is...!'" He deepened his voice and moved his hand out, causing you to laugh slightly,

"So not like Scooby-Doo?" You teased,

"Scooby-Doo is bullshit compared to this. You've written a real murder mystery, darling," You knew it was teasing. You knew it was teasing. But God how you wished he could call you 'darling' all the fucking time. As if he was embarrassed, he glanced away, and you thought for a few moments,

"Well, thanks Eddie," You said, smiling softly as you shifted a little, "I'm no Sherlock Holmes but-

"Sherlock Holmes is the character- Arthur Conan Doyle wrote the book," He corrected with a smirk. You narrowed your eyes in a playful glare, and rolled them as he laughed,

"As I was saying-" You continued in a joyful tone, grabbing the book from him and pulling the pen out, capping the lid you had slotted on to the end. You threw it away from you back to his floor, letting it twist through the air and land with a thud," -I always appreciate your feedback- I like it when you praise me," You smiled softly,

"You do?"

"Well yeah- Mrs Clarke just yells," You said, and watched him smile at you,

"She never yells at you," He said,

"She yells at you plenty. And we sit next to each other, so some of it hits me in the crossfire,"

"Damn- you're blaming me?" He teased,

"Then stop fucking around so much," You grinned, watching him as he laughed softly. For a moment it was quiet, the only noise coming from the distant radio playing loud metal music somewhere else in the house. The two of you were alone, considering his uncle was out working tonight, "I don't remember if I thanked you for letting me do my work here," You sighed, "I know it's a Friday and you'd probably want to be doing something more fun than looking over my homework and sitting here in silence with me for hours but you know how crazy loud my house gets," You rambled,

"It's alright... I've told you a million times you're welcome to stay here for as long as you need and get whatever you want done," He assured. His voice was gentle and soft, and his words magically relaxed your aching body, making you lean closer to him. He really has told you you're free to be around him a million times. It was sweet- he'd always clear out a spot for you on his desk or swipe everything but the covers of his bed so you could do your work comfortably. Eddie would either stay with you, sitting quietly and chirping in whenever he'd ask if you wanted a snack or needed help with whatever he was working on, or he would leave you alone to do something else so you could work in silence- though he was never far. You could often see him from his room's window smoking outside, which led to him throwing rocks at the glass to get your attention. You'd smile playfully and lift it up so you could chat, before he'd playfully scold you and tell you to get back to work and disappear. You hoped at this point he wasn't annoyed with you, or that you were overstaying your welcome, or using him too much- before Christmas break, you spent almost every day at his trailer just studying for your end of year exams,

"I know, I just don't want you to get too tired of me," You said self consciously, though keeping a playful tinge to your tone so as to not worry him too much, "I know I'm irresistible and all, but sometimes I feel like it's a lot," You said, "Feel free to kick me out whenever, by the way," You said quickly,

"I honestly think you're the one person in this world I won't ever get tired of," He stated, his voice nice and low. The statement shocked you, causing your mouth to fall open wordlessly for a moment before you quickly closed it, blinking rapidly. When you looked back at him, he was already looking into your eyes,

"Really?" You asked,

"Definitely. I mean, if I didn't I wouldn't be hanging out with you so much," He said, smiling,

"You'd have a lot more free time," You commented, moving your head away,

"I'd honestly rather spend it with you," He said. You could feel his fingers gently moving some of your hair that fell in front of your face, tucking it back behind your ear. At the contact, you looked back at him. You could now feel the cool metal of his rings against your flushed cheek. He was unbelievably close now, and just staring at you with this... This look in his eyes like you were the most beautiful thing in the world. The only other thing he looked at like that was his guitar, hung proudly behind him, next to his bed. With a small swallow, you spoke up again,

"Eddie?"

"Yeah?" He breathed; you felt it against your lips,

"Are you gonna kiss me or just stare at me?" You whispered back, your mouth curling slightly into a smile. His eyes darted between your lips and eyes, and he swiped his thumb over your cheek once more before pressing his lips to yours in a gentle, loving kiss.

Dating Eddie Munson was the best decision you had made in your entire life. Every day was an adventure with him- and since you shared your first kiss, you found yourselves even closer than before. He started picking you up and driving you to school- and you thoroughly enjoyed screaming along to the lyrics of his favourite songs.  In your free time, you'd somehow always end up at the picnic table together, laughing and talking the whole time. Your favourite thing to do with him was, after your DnD sessions, he'd take you on walks to his favourite locations in the Hawkins Forest and smoke.

On your first Valentines Day, he carved your initials into a tree by his favourite smoke spot behind his trailer. It may have been a small thing, but to you, it was the sweetest. He had also gotten you a necklace with a skull on it, which you quickly vowed to never take off. He'd also playfully stated you could have a lifetime free supply of weed from him- you hadn't taken him up on the offer yet, though. You always said there'd be a time and a place. You, on the other hand, had bought him a new ring which he, in turn, vowed to never take off- even in his sleep. And after spending countless nights together, you knew his words were true.

Now, you had somehow managed to make it through school to summer break, and when your parents told you they would be going on a camping trip with all your younger siblings, you almost couldn't contain your joy in declining their offer. Five whole days spent only with Eddie sounded like a dream too good to be true. You stocked up on snacks while he bought the drinks and happily joined you the morning after your parents left you alone. A few days before they left, you'd even gone out to Family Video and rented 'The Thing' for the sixth time. It was your first 'real date' as Eddie put it, to the theatre, where you watched it twice through before you got kicked out. After that, you waited for the VHS and regularly rented it to watch together- from then, it became your favourite, and you were glad to be watching it for the seventh,

"Jesus, you really don't get tired of this?" Steve Harrington asked as he typed your details into the computer,

"Not yet, unfortunately," You smiled pleasantly, grabbing the VHS from him and placing it into your bag,

"Hah- you might need to invite me over to watch it with you sometime," He said, giving you a flirtatious smile. With a confused blink, you glanced over to see your friend Robin roll her eyes and smirk at you,

"Ignore him- enjoy the movie!" She said, giving you a two-fingered salute,

"Thanks, Robin," You said, glancing back at Steve, "I'll ask Eddie if you can join," You teased, "Maybe he'll even letcha join the Hellfire Club. If you asked nicely," You said, smiling before turning to leave the store,

"Is that a yes??" He called after you; he sounded desperate. You smiled, barely hearing his disappointed sigh as you walked out of the store. At this point, you weren't entirely sure if Eddie was your 'boyfriend'. It was clear you shared a lot of love for one another, and you were going on dates and seeing each other and... Being intimate. But did that mean he was your boyfriend? Your... Boyfriend... Eddie being your boyfriend. It sounded good...

"Are you wearing swords for earings?" He finally says. It takes you a moment to register what he says, but when you do, you reach a hand up to touch the miniature plastic weapons and smile,

"Mhm," You nod to him, beginning to gently fiddle with the fake blades, "Y'Know when we went through all the old DnD stuff at Hellfire a few weeks ago, babe? The stuff we didn't use and were asked to donate?" He nods, "Found 'em, took 'em, repurposed them," You smiled proudly, "Stuck little hooks in too and everything. It was kinda a hard process. I did have to steal my sisters' earings and I had to break them apart, but I'm sure she won't mind" You smiled playfully as you waved a hand, "I thought they looked cute- I hope you don't mind," You said quickly, your relaxed demeanour dropping slightly, at his prolonged silence and unreadable expression. You quickly let your hands drop back into your lap, and gently bit your lip, "I'm sorry I should have asked I-"

"No, it's just..." He's still staring at you when you curiously look back at him, "I'm just... It's really fucking it's cute," He smiles and you blush, "Don't gotta get so embarrassed on me," He said playfully, and you moved slightly so you could pull your hair in front of your face to hide it. With a laugh, Eddie reached and grabbed your hands, "Don't hide away from me, lemme admire you," He was grinning the whole time,

"God, Eddie!!" You say playfully, letting him take hold of your hands and move your hair away from your ears, even taking the time to be gentle when moving the hairs that got caught on the false blades away from them. You let him meticulously work, regarding him with a loving gaze,  "You honestly think they're cute?" You see him nod again,

"It's actually kinda hot," At that you burst out laughing, swatting his shoulder gently as he grins, "C'mon! You sit here looking like a total babe and expect me to not wanna reach out, my dear?" You laughed at his comment, shaking your head,

"Jesus Eddie," You sigh, and roll your eyes dramatically looking back to the movie, "Thanks," You say in a cheery tone,

Suddenly, he shifts much closer to you, so you can feel the warmth of his leg against yours. Then you feel his warm breath against your neck, and his warm hand moving to your hair and brushing it out of the way. One of his hands slides it away, then gently curls and brushed the back of your neck, keeping a gentle hold there. You can feel his hands there, just gently resting, along with the cool metal of his rings. Then his lips touch the sensitive skin of your neck, making you shiver as he places a gentle kiss there.

Fuck.

His gentleness always surprised you, given how intense he could be in his everyday life. He was very sweet and gentle with you, always holding you like you were the most precious thing in the world- not too tightly, just enough to keep you in place. It made you feel so... So fucking loved and happy you could melt. Or die. Or both.

You could feel his soft hair against your cheek, and you gently reached out to scratch the back of his head as he opened his mouth against your skin to gently suck your skin. With a shaky exhale, you felt his mouth curling into a smile on your flesh, before he gently grazed his teeth against your neck.

Fuck.

As you squeezed your legs together, he moved a hand to your thigh, resting it there at first before giving it a small squeeze. You placed your hand over his and squeezed it, silently consenting for him to continue. You felt the gentle poke of his tongue against your skin and couldn't stifle the soft moan that escaped your parted lips. Your eyes had fallen closed in bliss as he began to gently suck, lick and kiss your neck.

He moved his head lower to a spot he found you loved most, and bit into your skin. With a sharp, startled gasp, you squeezed his hand on your thigh, and gently tugged on the back of his hair. It earned a lovely low hum from him as he began to suck on your skin until it felt warm and tingly. When he pulled away, he gently blew air onto the mark, surrounded by wet skin, and chuckled gently as you shivered.

He move right back to kissing you, or rather biting another mark onto your neck as you whined his name and eagerly rubbed your thighs together. He was now kissing up your neck, and found himself at your jaw, gently sucking the skin there. As you moved your head to try and kiss his lips, you squeezed the hand he had on your thigh and attempted to move it further south, only for him to pull it out of your grasp and slap your hand away. Simultaneously, he moved his head back, but not too far, considering you were holding the back of it.+,

"Wha- What was that for?" You asked, not realising how whispery your voice had gotten. You felt dazed and your breath was shaky, chest rising and falling quickly as you stared up at him. Your breath hitched slightly as he moved his left hand up to his mouth and wiped his lips with the side of his hand. You swallowed hard and returned his small smile, looking into his lidded eyes. Your hand moved slightly to play with his hair, gently petting it,

"Felt like kissing you," He said simply, smirking away. With a small sigh, you glanced back at the movie and realised you wouldn't be too disappointed if you missed more of it... After all, there was always tomorrow... You flicked your gaze back at him,

"Yeah?" You asked, nodding your head once,

"Yeah," He said back, moving his head as you did. Your smile widened as you shifted closer to him. Purposefully, you moved your face close to him just so your noses could brush, before throwing one of your legs over his to straddle him. You gently settled your hands over his chest, and smiled feeling his rapid heartbeat beneath your palms. You reached a hand up and began fiddling with the metal of a necklace he was wearing- it was a necklace you had gotten him on his birthday- a small disc with a wolf carved into the front and your initials into the smooth back, "Hello," He said lowly, making you look back at him. One of his hands moved to rest on your thigh and the other moved up to your neck as he now began to gently mess with one of your earings. You could feel his rings against your face, and you shifted your head to kiss them gently,

"Hi, Eddie," You said softly, smiling back at him,

"You come here often?" He asked playfully, and you laughed as he moved, shifting the hand from your neck to your back so you wouldn't fall. He only sat up more, and leaned forward to try and kiss you. Quickly pulling away you grinned,

"Uhuh, you'd know," You teased, moving a hand to touch his cheek with yours. You loved looking down at him like this- even if you were the same height (though he swears on his guitar that he's an inch taller) it fills you with a certain desire looking down at him like this- eyes wide and full of wanting, pupils larger than normal, and mouth fixed in a smile,

"Mhm..." He hummed, drawing it out as his hands moved- the one on your thigh stroking up and down while the one on your back shifting up to your arm and neck, grazing the fresh marks he had left and making you bite your lip at the pleasurable feeling they filled you with, "What're you gonna do up here?" He asked you smoothly, moving his head to try and get closer to you once again. Gently, you moved a hand to his shoulder, pushing him back so he'd be pressed against the couch. Slowly, you trailed it up his shoulder to the back of his neck, scratching at his scalp to make him sigh and tilt his head back. Leaning forward quickly, you kissed his neck in a similar way to him,

"I want to kiss you too," You breathed beginning to slowly undulate your hips against his as he let out a low moan. You'd want to give him the same treatment but found yourself too impatient; you trailed your kisses up his neck and touched his cheek before firmly pressing your lips to his. The hand on your neck moved into your hair to pull you impossibly closer, causing you to shift in his lap too, earning simultaneous groans from both of you. At the opportunity, he moved his open mouth against yours, and as your tongues met you released a shaky breath.

He smiled, gently biting the tip of your tongue and eliciting a small squeak out of you. You both laughed gently, before moaning into each other's mouths as the kiss grew more heated. He gently sucked on your tongue before sliding it over yours and further into your mouth. You quickly fell apart in your attempt to dominate him, and in an attempt to shift the control, you moved so you were kneeling over him. Considering the change in height, it caused him to lean up more to keep kissing you. Your desire for more only grew as he tried following your mouth with his.

A few more heated moments later and you pulled back, lips buzzing and heartbeat racing wildly. You moved to sit back on his lap, pulling him close as you let your hands rest on his cheeks and playfully kissed his nose. You let yourself catch your breaths for a moment,

"I love you," He said, and smiled wider at your suddenly shocked expression. Your heart began to skip a beat, as if it was about to fall right out of your chest. You laughed silently, a small exhale falling out of your lips, which he pressed a small kiss against. Considering he was still trapped beneath you, he could only kiss the corner of your mouth,

"You do?" You asked softly, swallowing again. You kept your hands still, letting one rest against his neck and the other, which had been in his hair, in his shoulder, as you felt your fingers begin to tremble,

"I do," He confirmed, nodding. His hair tickled your hands, "I really fucking love you," He smiled, moving to kiss you again, this time trailing his mouth down your neck and pressing more kisses there. With gentle hums, he repeated the three words in soft whispers as you felt your hands tremble more. The affection... It was almost overwhelming in the best way. You smiled to yourself, letting your eyes fall shut and small sighs to escape your lips,

"Love you too Eddie," He moved his head back up to look at you. You dropped your head slightly so you could look more into his eyes,

"You do?" He asked, making his voice a slightly higher pitch to mimic your response. As you laughed, he grinned, his teeth showing. You moved off his lap and got off the couch, offering your hand to him to help him stand. He grabbed your hand, kissing your fingers gently, before standing, "Glad to hear it, my love," You breathlessly let a small sigh out, glancing back at him at the term of endearment. Quickly, he moved to kiss you again, grabbing your face and holding you there while he kissed you

"Yeah," said against his lips, before pulling away to look back at him. He kissed your forehead, before moving his hands to your shoulders and smiling at you,

"Why're we standing?" He asked curiously,

"We- uh... Let's go upstairs," You offered with a slight blush,

"Mmmm," He hummed, taking his bottom lip between his teeth. You flicked your eyes from his mouth to his warm brown eyes, "Movies down here though," He teased. One of his hands was gently holding your arm, caressing your clothed skin,

"Yeah but I have a bed upstairs," You tried to clarify,

"Ahhh... Right," He smiled, moving closer to you, "The couch is fine in my opinion," Your eyes widened at his proposition. You glanced beside him, down at the couch you had just been sitting on, before looking at the movie still playing on the TV,

"Do you still have our cassette?" You asked, and watched as he moved away from you to grab his jacket. As he turned, you took a moment to admire him. The way his hair swung as he moved, the way the sleeves of his Hellfire shirt had moved up his forearms, exposing parts of the bats tattooed on his arm, the way he... was wearing jeans...

"Here- why?" He asked, turning back to you and handing you the rectangle. You moved to the radio cassette player and placed the cassette inside, waiting a few moments for the song to start playing and turning the music up just enough so you were sure the simultaneous music and movie would help drown out the noise. You turned to see him watching you, sitting on the couch already with his legs outstretched slightly looking so inviting. You walked closer to him, touching the hem of your shirt and pulling it over your head, discarding it off to the side as you took your place back on top of him. His eyes had widened at your display, and you smiled to yourself,

"Drown out the noise," You clarified, giving him a playful wink. He grinned back at you, shaking his head slightly as he moved to kiss you again. His lips quickly moved back to trailing down your neck, eagerly seeking out the exposed skin now available to him and making sure to leave plenty more bruises against your skin, revelling in the sweet moans and weak sighs emanating from your bruised lips, as well as the way you gripped onto his shoulders and pushed his head closer to your body...

Eddie was completely in love with you, and desired to show you just how much every time you were intimate like this. Loving Eddie Munson was the greatest thing in your life by far. The joy he brought you was incomparable to anything- and you hoped this overwhelming feeling of love could last for as long as possible.

Title: The Man From The Sky

Title: The Man from the Sky

Pairing: Loki x Goddess!Reader

Summary: You were a Greek sea goddess, just enjoying a typical day of nothing when a strange new god dropped into your land.

Warnings: None yet. There is smut in future chapters already written. Will post more soon.

Notes: I’m aware that what we’d think of as ancient Greece well predates who we’d call the vikings and their like cruising around the seas. This doesn’t take place at the height of the Greek pantheon worship, but old enough in human history that some men still believed in both sets of deities.

Chapters: Next Chapter Here

—————————

You dipped your feet a little deeper into the warm water as it lapped the edges of the rock you sat upon. The sea was calm today, and the wind gentle as the nymphs chatted around you about the usual things. A bit of gossip one had heard from a local river nymph, a new shipwreck one had found, status of a fish migration from another.

You wouldn’t exactly call it boring though, you specifically chose these more remote areas when you came ashore for this very reason. It was so much more unlikely for you to run afoul of mortals here, or even others of your own kind that you may not feel like putting on airs with at this very moment.

It was so quiet in fact, that you were considering getting up to go lay in the sand on the beach in a few minutes and enjoy a nice nap in the sunlight.

That was before the boom which echoed through the air all around you. Somewhat like thunder, but not quite as all the nymphs fell silent.

When nothing came after, you felt all their eyes then turning to you. Their voices piped back up soon enough, though the tones in them changed to all nerves now.

“Do you wish to leave, milady?”

“Could it be Zeus?”

“But it didn’t sound like him.”

“Is there a volcano nearby?”

“What else could it be?”

“I don’t know what it was, I’ve never heard that sound.” You finally said, though now looking inward to the land. You were at least sure that the sound was not of the sea. But you refused to give in to the nymphs’ skittishness too quickly. And without real reason to leave, eventually you all did start to relax again.

Yet then came the cries. “Goddess, mistress please!” That cry absolutely was from the land as you looked in time to see the river nymph you’d met earlier in the day now running from the tree line and down onto the sands. She stumbled slightly, just before reaching you where the sea met the rocks.

She was panting, clearly having run some distance as she continued. “I’m so glad to still find you here,” She bowed slightly, only because she didn’t know you well enough to realize you didn’t require this.

“What is it?” You asked simply, honestly more curious now than anything else. What could she have seen that would strike her so alarming? Any nymph worth their ilk would know every creature, every natural occurrence, all that existed within their lands.

“There is a man in the forest, he came from the sky!” Yet she continued quickly, sure you would only think of Olympus. “But I do not recognize him as one of your own family. And his clothing, he is not of our territory. This I am sure, my goddess. I watched him only long enough to see that he was very angry. I am afraid of his intentions here.”

A man? But not truly a man. Mortals did not come from the sky.

“An angry god?” You said, now standing as you then stepped down from the rocks. The forest belonged to Artemis truthfully. But being this close to the sea, you thought that the older goddess would forgive you this if it came down to it. She would rather the nymphs be protected you were sure from any childish acts of a god’s wrath that may now come into play here.

You had brought no armor, the possibility of battle so far from your mind when you’d come ashore today. But that didn’t mean you travelled completely defenseless. “Bring me my spear please.” You requested of the sea nymphs.

Though they were still anxious, they responded dutifully, one sinking beneath the waves before reappearing with the glinting weapon in hand. It shone a brilliant silver, sea foam still running off its blue spear tip as she handed it to you out of the water.

“Show me the way, and I will investigate this stranger.” You spoke plainly, hopping down onto the sands as you strode barefoot towards the forest, spear in hand. “We will keep our distance as best we can, we don’t seek conflict, understood?”

“Yes, milady.” You heard, the sea nymphs staying behind you as the river nymph moved in front to lead you upward, the sand transitioning to rocky soil and the sparse vegetation and trees beginning to increase as you climbed the hillside.

For the sea nymphs, you could hear them losing their footing here and there in the loose soil, themselves of course far more adapted to swimming the ocean’s depths at your side rather than hiking up into the forests.

You did hope you were not putting any of them in danger. But if you felt they truly were in harm’s way, you would have no qualms in telling them to retreat back to the water at once.

“Up ahead,” The river nymph whispered to you, pointing towards a clearing you could now see leveling off in the distance. But the opening looked so strange with the density of the other trees now around you.

“Was that always there?” You asked her, knowing something unnatural when you saw it, even when this far from the water.

“No,” She confirmed. “When the sky opened up, it carved out the land as well. He appeared when that force receded.”

“Understood.” You replied, though in truth not really understanding at all as you motioned for all the others to proceed no further. You’d never seen something like this. “I will go alone. If he should attack me, please return to the sea to seek help.”

They fidgeted, looking unhappy but not arguing your choice. “Please be careful, goddess.”

You nodded, but kept on slowly. You tried to remember what you’d been taught as a little girl about stalking and hunting on land. So many moons ago, running through the forests with Artemis and at times Pan, being mentored before returning to the sea to your father, mother, and so many siblings.

But the closer you came, the more you realized that the stranger would likely not notice any sound of light footsteps approaching or ground shifting. As you neared, you saw his form pacing back and forth in the clearing, seemingly cursing to himself in a language that was not your own.

Yet it still sounded familiar. Abruptly you knew where you had heard a dialect like this before. It sounded so much like those voyagers from the northern seas. The ones with their longboats and course beards, sometimes with hair as red as fire as they fished and sang and fought.

And he did look as pale as them as well. But with hair like black of night, and a frame far more slender than the burly mortals you’d seen rowing those northern boats along. And just as the river nymph had warned, his clothing confused you as well. Rich green robe, but with black and gold as well. It was wholly foreign and exotic to you in its styling, as was he.

When she’d said a strange man had arrived, honestly you had also expected someone older in appearance. He looked quite youthful to be honest, even as his brow remained furrowed and his fists clenched at his sides.

And just when you thought his feet may actually cut a path in the earth from his agitated pacing, he finally slowed, then stopped all together.

This is when you froze as well, knowing you now had a decision to make. Should you keep to your hiding, just to hope he should eventually leave in whatever fashion he came? Or should you reveal yourself to question his identity and purpose here?

“Done spying yet, or do you intend to actually do something with that spear?” A cutting voice spoke abruptly to your side, so suddenly that you almost lost your footing, shocked as the same man emerged from behind other trees only feet from you.

But you still saw him in the clearing as well, at least you did momentarily before the image of him there dissolved, leaving only the form now nearest you.

“You speak my language?” Was all you questioned instead of answer him though, as he had said those last words only in your tongue. You also kept focusing on backing away as you chose to keep a safer distance. He was some sort of illusionist at least then, which could escalate the danger here very quickly if he made you lose your bearings.

And he was starting to circle you a bit you realized as he began to walk again. But you willed yourself to keep your spear at a neutral position, rather than aim at him, still not intending to provoke attack if it could be prevented. You had no idea what other strengths he might have, and your primary goal was still to keep the nymphs from getting caught in any crossfire.

“Not all of us are so uneducated,” He snapped back at you, still in your language, though you could detect that foreign accent underneath.

You were not wholly unused to rudeness though, yet it had been a very long time since you could recall being spoken to directly in such a manner. It was more the bickering between others in the palace that you were sometimes forced to be party to. Which was only another reason you often favored the relative isolation of the mortal world.

“You need not be so offended, stranger. I only came to see who had entered our land, and to protect my friends if need be.” You answered as reserved in tone as you could.

“Then you have done your duty, girl, and can now be gone. I came here to be alone. If I was actually intending to plunder this wasteland of nothingness, your little cohort never would have made it back to you to begin with.”

You stared, a little coldness entering your eyes then. So that was what had given you away. He’d already been aware of the river nymph to begin with, and had been waiting for someone to return the entire time while leaving that illusion of himself still in the clearing as distraction.

And he’d actually referred to you as ‘girl’. Did he really think you just one of the nymphs then? It was hard to say if he was intentionally trying to goad you, or if he really was so unfamiliar to not realize you for what you actually were.

You straightened a bit, replying, “Insults to our homeland aside, I will leave you to this quiet then, if you should at least tell me your name. You are clearly not of Olympus, and we still have right to know who it is who traverses into this particular land of mortals which we hold sovereignty over.”

He scoffed, clearly wishing to not speak to you even a moment longer. But in the way his chest puffed slightly, you thought it was only pride then that made him physically incapable of denying his identity.

He actually moved closer to you as well, that agitation still rising further in his voice. “Little fool, you stand before Loki! Son of Odin the Allfather. I am god of mischief, prince of Asgard. Your witless mortals should count their blessings that an Asgardian should ever see fit to even set foot here!”

You didn’t know if you’d been quick enough to mask the true surprise from your face. You had already assumed him a god. But never...never had you actually laid eyes on an Asgardian. They never came to this part of the world as far as you knew. And was he telling the truth? Was he really a son of Odin?

This stranger’s arrogance aside, if he were a child of Odin, you knew your own father would be furious with you if you were intentionally insulting now. Asgard and Olympus had never had the closest ties, but you were not enemies either. Asgard was honored by the mortals of the north, and Olympus still honored by those of the south, though perhaps not quite as much as the true olden days.

It took real will, but you bowed graciously to him in return. “It is an honor to meet you then, Loki, son of Odin.” As you straightened up, in his eyes you could see he was trying to judge you as sincere or not. But you just continued smoothly. “As promised, I shall leave you to your thoughts then. But I would be unmannered to not offer my assistance should you need a hostess in your time here as a guest in our land. My name is (Y/N), daughter of-”

You hesitated only the briefest moment, “of the sea,” is what you decided on though. Unlike Loki, you preferred a little anonymity with strangers. You didn’t wish to be targeted just for your lineage.

And with that, you turned, beginning to walk back towards the beach, even as you finished talking. “If you should need me, you need only find the sea’s edge and call for me. One of our creatures will hear you soon enough and seek me out.”

But some odd part of you regretted not being able to see his expression as you left. You wondered if you only would have seen more disdain and condescension at your offer.

Regardless, he said nothing else and soon enough you were back on the sand, the nymphs chittering in a mix of horror and awe around you.

“Who does he think he is, speaking to you that way!?”

“Do you really think he’s of Asgard? Shouldn’t we alert your father?”

“Why would he even come here? He seemed so bitter. Do you think they cast him out?”

“I’d cast him out, with a dirty attitude like that!”

You looked to the horizon, just taking a breath. “I don’t think we need to rush and tell my father just yet. But I do know where I want to go now.” You looked to the river nymph briefly though, “Please have those in the forest keep a distant eye on him. Should he leave or do anything else of note, please let us know.”

You glanced back to the sea nymphs then. “The rest of you return to the oceans. I’m going to Olympus, to the libraries there. I want to find out more about Asgard, to see if he is who he says he is. I’ll return to the water soon.”

They all nodded, “Yes, milady. Please let us know what you find!”

“I will,” you agreed, just watching them dissolve back into the waves.

Were you excited perhaps? Or just very curious? Nothing interesting in this way had happened in ages. You were determined to learn all you could on this new arrival.

—————————

The Olympians had been a little surprised to see you gracing the halls there. So many of your cousins had dropped in time and again to say hello, curious themselves of why you were out of the water this long and seemingly such a bookworm all of the sudden.

And you did read for days. All you could find on Asgard, on Odin, the Norse mortals, and their language. You found record that Odin had born two sons, honestly an oddly low number you thought in comparison to the many children of your own kings.

But there in these tomes, were those two names, Thor and Loki. Thor, god of thunder, amusing of course in comparison to Zeus, king of all, including lightning. But also Loki, god of mischief, just as he’d said.

You were surprised, but enthralled as you actually found a drawing of Loki within the book. Though not completely accurate you thought, you still recognized that type of clothing. The green and gold, and the pale skin and black hair with his icy blue eyes. You tilted your head a little, looking at the gold helmet he wore in the artist’s depiction, with long horns curving from it like those of a great beast.

Was he really a beast? Or just a too arrogant manchild? And why did you increasingly wish to find out?

Cheerleader Pt. 1

It was the day of the big championship game. The entire school, or at least most of it, was stoked. Hawkins High hadn’t won a championship in ages, but this year was going to be different. The basketball team was amazing, the band was awesome, and the cheerleaders were impeccable. You were biased though, being a cheerleader yourself. But you knew how hard you and the rest of the cheer squad had worked on all the routines and you just had a good feeling about this game.

While you may have been in high spirits, your best friend Chrissy Cunningham wasn’t doing very well. She had been telling you for the past few days how bad she had been feeling and the horrible headaches she was getting. You knew she was taking tylenols but they weren’t helping. And nothing would help with her nightmares. You offered to spend the night with her whenever they first began but she declined, not wanting to bother you. You really didn’t mind, you just wanted your friend to be okay.

“Chrissy?” you asked, waiting outside the bathroom stall. You were walking down the hall with her when she rushed into the bathroom and promptly locked herself in a stall. She didn’t answer but you could hear her gagging and sniffling. The door to the bathroom opened and you saw a redhead walk into the bathroom with headphones around her neck. You had seen her around before but couldn’t remember her name. You smiled awkwardly at her while Chrissy continued to barf in the stall.

“Is she okay?” the redhead asked.

“Um- no not really,” you said.

You heard some shuffling in the stall and then heard Chrissy say, “Who is it?”

You looked at the girl and waited for her to say her name. “Oh it’s- it’s Max. Max Mayfield.”

Max. You had heard of her before. She was Billy Hargroves little sister. You didn’t know him very well, just what everyone said about him and how he died in the mall fire last year.

Chrissy heard Max say what her name was, and you guessed that Chrissy didn’t care since she didn’t reply. Or at least you thought she wasn’t but after a very guttural sounding puke she said, “Could you please leave?”

You looked at Max expectantly. Usually you wouldn’t tell people to leave the bathroom but you knew your friend was struggling and probably embarrassed. She nodded and started walking out the door and you followed. “I’m going to get some water Chrissy, okay? I’ll be back in a minute.”

You and Max walked out into the hall. She lingered for a second and appeared like she wanted to ask you something. She didn’t though, and instead just gave you a small smile and walked off. You went to the vending machine down the hallway and stuck some quarters in it. Clink, clink, clink. They fell to the bottom of the slot. You pressed C1 for water and watched as the metal swirls let the bottle drop down to the opening at the bottom of the vending machine. You pushed open the piece to get the water and started heading back to the bathroom.

It was silent. You tilted yourself down just a little and saw that Chrissy was still in the stall, but she wasn’t moving or making any noise. “Chrissy?” you asked.

No answer. “Chrissy?” You shifted your weight back and forth between your feet. “Chrissy, are you okay in there?” you repeated one more time. Still no answer. You checked to make sure the other stalls were empty before going into the stall next to hers and getting on your hands and knees. The floor was absolutely disgusting but that didn’t matter right then. You crawled under the stall and into Chrissy’s.

She was sitting there, totally unmoving other than her eyes. Her eyelids were twitching and all you could see was the white part of her eyeballs. “Chrissy!” you exclaimed. You waved your hand in front of her face but she didn’t seem aware, or present at all. You grabbed a hold of her shoulders and shook her. You were starting to panic. In a situation like that you had no idea what to do. Was she having a seizure? Was she in shock? You had no idea.

“Chrissy! Chrissy please,” you pleaded. “Come on, come on, say something! It’s okay! I’m here.”

Suddenly she gasped, and her eyes went back to normal. She was shaking all over and her eyes darted around like crazy.

“Oh Chrissy,” you said, wrapping your arms around her. “What happened? Are you okay?”

“I- I don’t know what that was…” she trembled. “I was here but it was different and…”

“Do you need to go home? I can take you to the nurse. Or we can just skip. I’ll drive you.”

She shook her head. “No, no. I’ll be fine. I have to talk to the guidance counselor later anyways and today is the big game. I can’t miss it.”

You looked at her for a moment, thinking about protesting but you knew it would be of no use. Chrissy wouldn’t miss the game for anything. Jason, her boyfriend and captain of the basketball team, would be really disappointed if she didn’t come.

“Okay. Just make sure that you tell her about what happened. And here, drink this water.” You handed her the water and waited for her to take a few sips.

She knew you were still worried just by the way you were staring at her. Your eyebrows were creased and you were barely blinking, like if you did she would just vanish into thin air. “I’m fine, okay? I’ll see you at lunch, promise,” Chrissy said. You sighed but relented.

Your classes before lunch passed by in a blur. No one was really focused on the school work. Many were buzzing about the game later, and the celebration that would come afterwards if Hawkins won. You weren’t really thinking about the game. Your mind was on your best friend. “What was that back there?” you thought.

You parked yourself next to Chrissy at your usual lunch table with Jason and his basketball friends. The energy at the table was very consuming as they all chatted animatedly about the upcoming game.

“We’re gonna smoke them,” Chance said. All the other boys agreed. “They’re not going to know what hit them. Isn’t that right, Lucas?” He turned to one of the freshmen at the table. He had been on the bench the entire season, and he was quieter than most basketball players you knew. Especially the ones at your table.

“Yeah, for sure man,” he answered.

From behind you a voice spoke up, catching the attention of most of the cafeteria. It was Eddie Munson.

Eddie was standing up on top of a lunch table saying, “...or parties or a game where you toss balls into laundry baskets!” He directed that towards your table and Jason stood up.

“You want something, freak?” Jason yelled. Eddie smiled and made horns on his head with his hands. Jason gave him a look and muttered, “prick,” as he sat back down.

Eddie was a senior. He had been a senior for a while now, and had failed his last year multiple times. At least that’s what everyone said. You weren’t well acquainted with him at all but you had a class with him. He was talkative and had an outgoing personality, but you didn’t see anything wrong with that.

Almost the entire school considered him a “freak” though because he liked to play Dungeon and Dragons. Personally you didn’t play it, but one of the kids you babysat did. You had heard plenty of stories about how the game made people violent and it was satanic. You thought it was a load of bull. It was just a harmless game.

“Y/N,” Chrissy whispered, getting your attention. You had some pizza in your mouth so you looked at her and raised your eyebrows, letting her know to continue. “I set up a… meeting with Eddie for later today.”

You quirked an eyebrow, showing that you didn’t understand. She looked around anxiously and scooted a little closer. “For… stuff. He sells.” Realization hit you. She was buying drugs. Chrissy was buying drugs. That was something you never thought would happen. Chrissy had always been so straight laced.

You nodded and swallowed your food. “What for?” you asked. You had never done drugs before but knew a couple people who did. Your knowledge of drugs was pretty limited. You knew about the not-so-bad stuff like weed.

“Maybe it’ll help with the headaches. And the nightmares.” She chewed on her lip and looked at you seriously.

“Okay. Be safe though.” You weren’t going to scold her or anything like that. Chrissy was truly struggling and maybe it was worth a try. She let out a breath and shut her eyes for a second. She must have been afraid to tell you. You rubbed her shoulder briefly, causing Jason to look over at you two.

“You okay Chrissy?” he asked. She nodded and smiled at him. She must not be telling him then. Just you.

Hours later you were in the gym, cheering on the basketball team. It was a close game, but you were hopeful that the Hawkins team would pull through and win the championship. The gym was packed full of supporters. It seemed like half the town showed up.

“WOO!” you cheered, waving your pom-poms. There was just a few seconds left on the clock. Jason took the shot, as everyone watched with bated breath. He missed. Your shoulders fell. But then underneath the goal was Lucas, the freshman benchwarmer. He got the ball, took a couple steps back, jumped, and shot. The crowd erupted in cheers. Hawkins had won the championship. The entire basketball team converged on Lucas, hoisting him up on their shoulders and chanting his name.

Later on in the night the gym had cleared out, and the only students left were the basketball players and some cheerleaders in the parking lot. There was plans to go to a well-known place for parties.

“Hey, I’m going to go home and change but I’ll meet you guys there,” Chrissy said. You and Jason nodded and she walked off to her car. You knew that Chrissy wasn’t actually just going home. She was going to Eddie Munson’s house. Apparently he didn’t have what Chrissy wanted with him when they met at school. Jason was unaware of what was going on but you weren’t going to tell him. It wasn’t your place.

The party was hectic and full of alcohol, but you knew your limits. After a few drinks you decided to go home. The next morning you woke up to your mom calling your name. “Y/n! Y/n will you come down here?”

You went down the stairs and went to the living room where your mom and dad were watching the news. You were confused at first then you heard what the reporters were saying. Someone had been murdered last night. Collapsing onto the couch next to your mom, she wrapped her arms around you. She was scared to death of something like that happening to you. After all the death that had plagued Hawkins her worry was entirely warranted. You returned her embrace while she sniffled.

Not too long after you saw that on the news you got a call. “Hello?” you asked.

“Hey y/n it’s Jason.” You raised your eyebrows at who was calling you. He had never called you before, and wouldn’t really talk to you much when you were around him. The only reason you guys were ‘friends’ was because he was Chrissy’s boyfriend. Wait. Chrissy. She never showed up last night to that party. Fear swept over you as Jason continued to talk.

“Did you ever see Chrissy last night? Did you talk to her at all during or after the party?” his voice was urgent as he questioned you. You began to panic.

“Why? Did- Did something happen?” Your voice trembled and your hands shook.

“Listen to me very carefully y/n. I’m guessing you’ve seen the news. Last night Chrissy was… killed.”
