Sorry, babe, can’t sub for the next few years. Yeah, im not happy about it either… yeah, well.. no, apparently it’s very tone-deaf right now to have this kind of kink… yeah, we have to think about the political climate.
as much as i love my daughter victoria and think she deserves a little work boyfriend, im also incredibly hooked on the concept of mateo being the dad that stepped up with harrison and cassie being a cougar
(opening the author’s works page after finishing a fic) and if im lucky they’ll have written this exact same fic but different a bunch more times

“but what about platonic soulmates?? not everything has to be romantic. friendship is just as important—” shut uppp. i have plenty of friends. i don’t need to live vicariously through some fictional character’s friendship. i want to see them fuck nasty. i want to see them be weird about each other

"We need more complex female characters" you guys can't even handle Chappell Roan, Real Life Woman with Boundaries
No no please the floor is yours I need to hear these thoughts about the Edmonton polycule!
okay okay okay okay here's how i think it all shakes out, or more accurately, the way it shakes out that is the most interesting to me narratively, obviously with the caveat that this is all pretend and conjecture and fictional etc etc etc
leon & connor: soulbonded boy best friends who do everything together and communicate telepathically and have big deep intense feelings about each other that neither of them have any interest in reflecting on or vocalizing. sickening. achilles wished all greeks would die so he and patrocles could conquer troy alone kind of energy.
lauren & celeste: you know how every gay girl has that like really intense friendship that imploded inexplicably dramatically in like high school and you didn't realize why it ate you up inside until years later when you see her at the ten year reunion? they're like that but what if the friendship never imploded. i think lauren is lowkey More intense about her friendship with celeste than celeste is about her but they did learn to kiss together and their whole lives revolve around each other. they are each other's life partner and the boys are accessories. barbies and kens.
leon & celeste: disgustingly in love in the way that only two conventionally hot, rich, and famous people can be. fairytale romance. slow dancing under the stars. love at first sight. this is exactly where they're supposed to be. shakespearean sonnets. life foretold this for them and they're both pretty delighted about it. this is what they should want and they want it!
connor & lauren: dedicated, commited, deeply flawed love with just a little tiny hint of sunk cost (videogate). they've been together so long they don't know how to be apart. connor defers to lauren in every aspect of his life that isn't hockey related and he's SO grateful to not have to figure anything out. lauren's got it. they would be the 'love is so hard and some days i hate you and it can be thankless and sometimes you feel like you're drowning but in the end its all worth it. happy anniversary to this guy <3' couple if they weren't millionaires. this is exactly where they're supposed to be and it's what life foretold for them but they don't have any strong feelings about that. this is what they should want and so because of that they want it.
connor & celeste: they are essentially strangers to each other. connor does not feel threatened by celeste in any way (she knew lauren first and he was never going to be what she is to leon) and celeste does not feel threatened by connor (lauren is her life partner, leon is her prince charming, and also: look at connor and then look at celeste). they are also alien species to each other. they have nothing to talk about that isn't lauren or leon. they would not have ever met in any lifetime if it wasn't this one with those two. connor may feel envious of celeste but he is not jealous. celeste is neither of those things - she believes she has the upper hand and higher place in the hierarchy in her relationships with both leon and lauren, and connor does not challenge her on that, ever. this may be a mistake on her part. i think celeste is the least self-aware of what is going on in this little foursome and connor is a close second. they both think everything is normal and they are both wrong in totally opposite ways.
lauren & leon: now THIS is where it gets really interesting to me because in all the ways connor and celeste are not threatened by each other i DO believe lauren is threatened by leon and vice versa. lauren strikes me as very shrewd and i think she is aware of the intensity of connor and leon's relationship and is not happy about it. but what can she do about it, right? what could she say without sounding insane? i think lauren is also aware of how she personally feels about celeste on some level and that means leon is ALSO a threat to THAT relationship. lauren is not confident either would pick her in an ultimatum. leon feels the same, although he's less surface-level aware, like, he acts on the feelings he has without naming them or understanding the motivation, you know? he makes a bitchy face when connor says lauren wants him to call her when they get back to the hotel at the end of the night and does not think about why he made the face but he does make it and he does make sure connor sees him making it and that feels good. leon and lauren i think are always perfectly crisply polite to each other but there's a real thrum of tension there that doesn't exist between connor & celeste. lauren has the most to lose if any of these relationships fail on all levels (financially, socially, career-wise, other relationship opportunities) and leon has the most to lose if lauren decides she has a capital-P problem with him (connor defers to lauren on all things, celeste knew lauren first) so they're both always very on edge around each other.
anyway i'm just spitballing welcome to my beautiful mind etc
