John: Uh, This Is John Lennon Talking To You From The Heart Of The West Side Of New York In An Interview

John: Uh, this is John Lennon talking to you from the heart of the West Side of New York in an interview exclusive — full interview — with brand new New Yorker Sean Ono Lennon, spelled S-E-A-N. Okay? Now tell me Sean, what’s your first impression of New York? Sean: [Baby noises] John: I see.

An interview John did with his son, Sean, circa 1976. The Lennon family had just gained permanent residency in New York. Sean had been born October of the year prior. I apologize for the background music - I didn’t add that. My favorite quotes/partial transcript:

John: I was wondering if the fiscal crisis of New York had any —

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: Uh-huh, that’s the one I was talking about, yes.

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: Exactly!

[…]

John: I see you know which subjects to avoid and which not to. Very sensible. Must be running for office, is that what it is?

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: It is exciting, isn’t it? And such a strain on the - on the old ticker. [Laughs]

[…]

John: Oh, he’s smiling, folks.

John: [Very softly] Perhaps you’d like to tell me your favorite color?

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: That’s not good enough, I’m afraid.

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: [Normal voice] No interesting color.

[…]

John: Will you be doing any concerts while you’re staying - while you’re here?

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: Yes, I thought so. You haven’t got the group together. I understand completely.

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: Uh, I heard you were backstage at the [Bob] Dylan concert, or was that just a rumor?

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: An outright lie? My goodness.

[…]

John: I was wondering what it’s like being the son of such astoundingly famous, beautiful, and talented parents as John and Yoko? I wonder what it’s like…

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: Oh, I see. I mean, could you - could you give me —

Sean: [Slight cry]

John: Ah, mhmm, yes - more full… background into that?

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: I see you’re very fascinated by this - this black box that I’m interviewing you with - this tape recorder. In fact, it seems to inhibit you a little bit. I mean, are you conscious - or self-conscious about the tape recorder?

Sean: [Baby noises]

John: Well, he’s turned his head away because he got very paranoid [laugh]. It’s alright, you know. Just think of it as a very dark relative.

[…]

John: Elton! What about Elton [John]? He’s your godfather!

Sean: [Fussy baby noises]

John: Do you want to tell me how it is to have such a famous godfather?

Sean: [Begins to cry]

John: Well, I know you haven’t been able to see him yet. That’s because he can’t come into the country until January!

Sean: [Continues to cry]

John: Well, let’s just get him on the phone. Get his ass over here.

Sean: [Fussy baby noises]

John: Well, I think at that point we’ve left the interviewee because he obviously was getting violent at the thought of not seeing Dean Martin and all those people in their prime, as it were.

Honestly, forget about India. I need to know in detail what occurred on that New York trip if we’re getting headlines from 1968 magazines like this:

00:03 - Yes, John and Paul kiss. Paul:“To say about the girls that you….do”

00:25 - They kiss again. John, in a sexy voice: “Alright Paul, come along now..”

00:58 - John whispers : “McCartney”

01:13 - John: “Now, give us a kiss! ha ha!” “Mmm” “Ok..” “That might be an idea…”

and don’t try to tell me these aren’t kisses ‘cause I won’t believe you anyway.

Ringo and Paul from Ringo’s Lifted. Caption reads: “This unusual and interesting photograph of me and Paul McCartney together was taken on a timer. And I’m thankful that even after all this time had passed, Paul and I are still here and still holding on to one another.”

Paul: When you told me John: When you told me Paul: You didn't need me anymore John: You'll never leave me Paul: You know, I nearly broke down and die

John and Paul: we did not have this conversation before. This song is totally fictional and not about us breaking up at all.

This soulful jamming reminds me of their "Oh Johnny, Johnny" "improvisations". Also John proceeds to talk about Yoko's divorce, sticking it in where it hurts. (Chap really knows how to rub it in).

In 1996, the three remaining Beatles reunited. They were feeling empty during the photoshoot without John Lennon being there. A white peacock then mysteriously appeared behind George for one of the photos. When they saw it, they all felt John's presence and the mood was lifted.

can we make the connection between

“the time has come, the walrus said, for you and i to stay in bed again “ (from a take of john’s starting over )

and

“- if john lennon could come back for a day, how would you spend it with him?

- in bed “ (from one of paul’s interviews )

okay thanks

so if the lyrics of Now and Then were started to write in pre 1975...Would it lose something special about mclennon.im not for sure but im a little upset truly🥲

I mean...the phrase"Now and Then" in pre 1975 maybe couldn't relate to Paul directly.

Also the"for Paul"analysis.Sean claimed that John didn't write it on original cassette.thus what Paul got wasn't the original tape but a copied and the handwriting couldn't be John's?

It is really confusing and im gonna crack

Drop everything, new John & Paul photo from 1974 just dropped!

Drop Everything, New John & Paul Photo From 1974 Just Dropped!

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, May Pang and Harry Nilsson in LA, 29th March 1974. Photo taken by Mal Evans.

For Mal, the sunny afternoon of March 29 would bring pure magic in contrast with the previous evening’s lackluster proceedings. The McCartney clan showed up [at the Santa Monica beach house] out of the blue, this time with daughters Heather, Mary, and Stella in tow, and Mal was thrilled at the prospect of seeing John and Paul together again—twice in the span of two days, no less. And he was by no means disappointed, observing the two old friends reclining on the patio together and, later, walking along the beach, with May, Linda, and the McCartney brood trailing along behind them. “Nice to see him and John together,” Mal scribbled in his diary later that month.

At one point that afternoon, Evans reached for his camera and snapped a photo of the two old friends lounging at the beach house — flanked by their partners, Linda and May Pang, and Harry Nilsson. May would also take some Polaroids of the meeting at some point this day, but there's a very real possibility that Evans' picture is the last photo ever taken of the 20th Century's greatest songwriting duo. (It will be included in the upcoming collection of Evans' diaries and archives, slated for publication in 2024.)

GEORGE: I Remember Saying, “Well, One Of Us Has Gotta Be The Bass Player, And It’s Not Me. I’m

GEORGE: I remember saying, “Well, one of us has gotta be the bass player, and it’s not me. I’m not doing it.” And John said, “I’m not doing it, either.” Paul just went for it. (1995) JOHN: Paul’s bass playing is underrated. Paul was one of the most innovative bass players ever. And half the stuff that is going on now is directly ripped off from his Beatles period. He’s an egomaniac about everything else about himself, but his bass playing he was always a bit coy about. He’s a great musician who plays the bass like few other people could play it. (1980) RINGO: Paul is still, to this day for me, one of the most incredible melodic bass players around. He’s just incredible. (2016) PAUL: As time went on, I realized that I didn’t have to just play the root notes. At first if it was C, F, G, then it was normally C, F, G that I played. But then I started to realize that you could be pulling on that G, or just staying on the C when it went into F. And then I took it beyond that. I thought, well, if you can do that, what else could you do? You might even be able to play notes that aren’t in the chord. I just started to experiment. What could you do? Well, maybe you can use different notes. Sevenths instead of the regular notes, or maybe even a little tune through the chords that doesn’t exist anywhere else. Maybe I can have an independent melody. (2018)
