Press : What musician do you respect most?
Paul : John Lennon
John : Paul McCartney
just gonna leave this here…
edit: it’s so funny to me that Paul doesn’t allude to anything queer in his account of Parisian Beatlemania (he even uses these stereotypical old man voices to impersonate the fans) (bc he’s just *that* deep in the closet) yet George will immediately be like “yeah there were a bunch of gay boys clamoring at our door”
Hello! I have loved your blog for years and have thoroughly enjoyed reading your mclennon posts..I was wondering what your thoughts were about the cherry bomb incident at the Memphis coliseum in 1966..I believe there is a quote from either John or Paul saying that they were worried that the other was shot 😭
Yes I’ve read this story many times and there are various versions. According to the Beatles, it was definitely a bomb. But according to Beatles fans who attended the event, it wasn’t really a cherry bomb but a firecraker, and it wasn’t thrown on the stage but near the stairs of the stage.
I think The Beatles believed it was a bomb because they were focused on playing and singing and they saw this fire and then the explosion which happened close to the stage, and they were a bit upset, also because it was the period of the “beatles bigger than jesus” controversy with strong Anti-Beatles feelings in America, fans burning their vinyls on the streets and many protests,...so there was tension at Beatles concerts. And that firecracker might have been a consequence of that turmoil.
I remember that John revealed in an interview that when the “bomb” exploded they suddenly looked at each other to check they were fine. Some Beatles fans who have attended the concert also reported that Paul suddenly looked at John to check if he was alright. ❤
FHIS IS SO SICK AND TWISTED. “John had to have a warm and loving side for me to stand him all those years” FUCKFCKUK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

You could almost be forgiven for thinking “Good Night” was mine, because it’s so soft and melodic and so un-John. I believe John wrote this as a lullaby for Julian, and it was a very beautiful song that Ringo ended up singing to the accompaniment of a big string orchestra. I think John felt it might not be good for his image for him to sing it but it was fabulous to hear him do it, he sang it great. We heard him sing it in order to teach it to Ringo and he sang it very tenderly. John rarely showed his tender side, but my key memories of John are when he was tender, that’s what has remained with me; those moments where he showed himself to be a very generous, loving person. I always cite that song as an example of the John beneath the surface that we only saw occasionally. I think that was what made us love John, otherwise he could be unbearable and he could be quite cruel. Now that I’m older, I realize that his hostility was a cover-up for the vulnerability that he felt, and if you look at his family history it’s easy to see why. But this is an example of that tender side.

PAUL: Hey Jude, don’t—
JOHN: Oh, Paul.
PAUL: What?
JOHN: Very hard to sing this, you know.
RINGO: (yelling) Do I love you—
PAUL: (coughs)
JOHN: Ringo, stop.
This interview was to promote Paul’s book “Many Years From Now”. Just before this they were talking about The Beatles break up and the band’s money issues and Allan Klein. At this point in the interview Paul is asked if his relationship with John was always “spiky”. He says that it wasn’t that they loved each other and he still does.
Parkinson: (..) Was it always a spiky relationship? I mean you say you loved him and that love comes through in the book, did he love you?
Paul: Yeah, I think he did actually. (Joking around) We’ll check, excuse me for a moment… John, come on baby, did ya… ? Yes!. No, I think he did, yeah. It wasn’t actually a spiky relationship at all. It was very warm, very close and very loving, I think, of all The Beatles. We used to say, I think we were amongst the first men to come out openly, ‘cause remember you know, it was quite strange in those days and it was a long time ago. Homosexuality was still sort of largely illegal. We used to say I love him on interviews and interviewers would get slightly taken aback you know, a man saying he loves him. But I think, quite generally, I think we really did and I still do.. Um.. but the business thing came right in the middle of it and the lawyers came along with the business thing. And I talked to John many years later because it’s great saving grace that we did put our relationship back together. Thank God for that because I don’t know what I’d do now with him gone if we hadn’t. I think I would be sort of wracked with all sorts of guilt. But, we did and chatting to him one of the first things he said to me when we met after the break up and things calmed down, he said ‘Do they try to put you against me like they put me against you? Do they do that?’ and I said my God if they do. And he said it’s good, good to know because they’re always trying to pin me against you..
