the fact that none of the night at the museum movies were rated over 50% by critics is a reminder that some ppl don’t know how to have fun. the first two movies were flawless. a night watch guard has to babysit museum displays that come to life, complete w old school villains and endless historical crossovers? incredible concept, incredible execution

They say you should make art for yourself, but the folks writing long-form fic on AO3 where the last reader comment was thirty-five chapters ago and they're still updating every week like clockwork are putting that into practice in ways I can only dream of.

OH.MY-----

THIS IS SO SWEET!!!!

OH.MY-----

Happy Halloween! My hellcheer exchange was to @alideities

Thank you to @helloween-gift-exchange for arranging this!

Prompt: bad boy with his personal angel

What a great prompt! It definitely suits eddie and Chrissy! Apologies for the lateness, but I got invited to a party last minute! I hope everyone has a safe, fun Halloween this year 🎃

Hawkins, Indiana 1986 Halloween

Eddie didn’t consider himself “bad” but most of the school did….and the teachers….and his classmates. He sometimes wondered if was the way he dressed, that he was from the trailer park, or some other factor—probably selling drugs, he concluded.

The drugs weren't why he was making his way to the office on Halloween, though. He was far too careful to ever get caught selling, and no one was stupid enough to rat him out. His boots were squeaking against the linoleum because he’d balled up the meatloaf on his lunch tray and thrown it at Jason Carver—the jock deserved it for shoulder-checking Henderson and causing him to drop his tray—and Eddie was ready to plead his case but was sure he’d still get punished while Carver got off Scott free.

He put his hand on the doorframe and swung himself into the office. He gave a smile to Mrs. Mackey, the secretary, and winked before turning to the chairs lined on the wall outside the principal’s door. was surprised to see his usual chair near the secretary’s desk occupied. Even more surprising was who sat there. His steps stumbled as he came to stop in front of Chrissy Cunningham. He tried to ignore how his heart sped up and adrenaline shot through his veins, because, duh, Chrissy Cunningham wouldn’t want anything to do with him.

He was about to take a different seat at the end of the row when she looked up at him. Her eyes were watery and her small shoulders hunched.

“You’re in my seat, but I’ll make an exception for you this time.” He smirked at her. She pursed her lips together and began gathering her backpack from the ground. Before she could move, Eddie plopped down in the chair next to her, tossing his lunchbox and backpack in the other empty chair.

“That’s prime seating. The cushion hasn’t lost its spring yet, minimal stains, and you can hear when Higgins is about to come out and ground you.”

“Sorry I took your spot,” she mumbled. She tugged her cardigan tighter around her body.

“It’s no big deal. I’m a regular here, so I’ll get it back next week.”

She snorted. Some of the tension that made her body stiff left, and he felt oddly proud he’d made even that much progress.

“What’d you do this time?”

“I’m sure you’ll hear about it later from your boyfriend.”

She raised her eyebrows at him before turning her body slightly to face him more.

“What’d you do to Jason?”

Eddie clicked his tongue and crossed his arms. “I might’ve thrown meatloaf at him. In my defense, he had it coming.”

He was bracing himself for the tentative warmth in her eyes to vanish and for her to be angry. Instead she laughed—a big, loud laugh that had her cheeks flushing.

“Was he mad?”

Pleasantly surprised at her reaction, he felt his shoulders loosen. “Oh, I think his face almost melted off.”

She laughed so hard so had to brace herself with a hand on his shoulder. He pretended very hard that it didn’t make his skin tingle through his shirt and that his brain didn’t go fuzzy.

“Well, thanks, I guess.” She wiped under her eyes, though there were no tears.

“For what? Harassing your boyfriend? I’ll do that any day of the week for you—for a price, anyway.”

“For giving my ex-boyfriend what he deserved. A hunk of meat to the back of his head.”

“Is that what you’re in for, Cunningham? Did you key his car or something?” Eddie would’ve loved to have seen Carver’s shiny car that often cut off his beat up old van with a fresh strip down the side. It was the most vindictive thought he’d had in a long time, but he figured the Carvers had enough money to fix it or just buy a new one, if the string of new cars his parents had had over the years were any indication.

“No,” she said with a sigh, letting her hand fall into her lap. He watched her jaw tighten before she opened her mouth again. “I cut class.”

He fought a smile because this was clearly a big deal for her. “Oh yeah? What’d you do that for?”

She shrugged. “Jason broke up with me, and my next class was with him.”

“Low blow, Carver. My harassment fee has been waived,” he mumbled.

“I just didn’t want to be with him. It was English with Corbin, and when she saw me in the hallway during lunch, she sent me here because it was pretty obvious I’d skipped.”

“Welcome to the bad kids club.” He playfully bumped her shoulder.

“I’m not bad!” She rolled her eyes, but a grin tugged at her lips as though the idea was a little appealing.

“Yes you are. This is just the beginning. You’re on the path to corruption now, Cunningham.”

She shook her head and worked her bottom lip between her teeth. After a moment she said, “Chrissy.”

“Huh?”

“You can just call me Chrissy, Eddie.”

“And here I didn’t think you even knew my name.”

“How could I forget you or Corroded Coffin?”

His heart soared. He opened his mouth to say something—anything, he begged his brain—but then the door flew open.

“Mr. Munson,” Higgins said. “Here again?”

Eddie popped up from the chair, scooping his things up in one arm.

“He loves me.” He winked at Chrissy, relishing in her blush, before saying, “See you around, Chrissy.”

Chrissy couldn’t really focus on her reprimand. Principal Higgins droned on about how she needed to be more responsible, she’s a good girl, yadda yadda. Her mind kept wandering back to the boy she had always secretly admired.

From the day she’d seen him on stage in sixth grade, part of her had wished she was Eddie Munson. Bold, brave, loud. But she was someone who nearly cried when getting in trouble for cutting class.

She thought for a moment about why Eddie had been there in the first place and felt herself smiling as she crossed the Hawkins High parking lot. Jason had definitely deserved that—probably more, but she couldn’t think of a suitable punishment for dumping her on Halloween and effectively ruining her plans and wasting a costume.

She hadn’t been paying attention and didn’t realize someone was behind her until there was a gentle hand on her shoulder. She spun with a gasp, only to find Eddie there with hands up in surrender.

“You good?” he asked.

“Totally!” Why was her voice so high pitched? Why was her breath coming faster? He was going to know she’d been thinking of him!

She cleared her throat and shifted her feet.

“What are you—” she began just as Eddie said, “You have any—”

They both paused. He motioned for her to continue.

“Wh-what are you doing tonight?” she asked, feeling especially bold. She clutched her history textbook tighter to her chest.

“Me? Oh. Uh. Just a party down at the quarry.”

“Can I come?” She wanted to jump in front of a car as the words slipped form her mouth. She felt her face get hot.

His mouth popped open in surprise, and she noted some red in his cheek.

“I—yeah—of course, but it’s not really your crowd, just so you know.”

“Can I wear my costume?”

He paused, giving her a thoughtful look, as though she’d surprised him. “Only if it’s cool.”

“It’s probably cooler than yours.”

He scoffed. “Doubtful, Chrissy. Very doubtful.”

And that’s how Chrissy ended up Eddie’s van dressed in the cutest cowgirl costume he’d ever seen—with pigtails for Christs sake!

She hadn’t gotten his Aragorn costume, and he’d resisted going into deep detail about Lord of the Rings, instead saying he was a knight. She’d smiled and told it was “very Eddie.”

They chatted until he killed the engine in a darkened field. A few of his friends’ cars were already there.

“You sure you wanna hang out with this crowd?”

“How bad can it be?”

That was what he asked himself from the moment she’d asked to come. This was a mixture of his Dungeons and Dragons friends and his…less mainstream friends. There would be drugs and drinking, both of which Chrissy had assured him she was fine with.

“If it gets too much, let me know, and we’ll get out of here, okay?”

“I’ve got you got keep me safe,” she said with a delicate little shrug before bouncing out of his van. He sat there shellshocked by what she’d said for a moment before grabbing his foam sword and following after her.

She trusted him to keep her safe, and Eddie would do anything to make sure her trust was upheld.

“Yes!” she yelled, throwing her arms up. Eddie’s friends at other end of the beer pong table groaned as she landed another shot.

She slung her arms around her friend’s neck. He ran his hand up her back, making her shiver. She pulled away and straightened her hat. To distract herself she stuck her tongue out at the other players.

Despite his warnings, Chrissy found that the friends here weren’t particularly rough and tumble. Sure there were more drugs than she was used to, but that was just to be expected with older people at the party. Surprisingly, Eddie hadn’t touched any drugs or drinks beyond the few shots the opposing team had landed during their game—and that wasn’t many.

“Your girlfriend is mean, Munson.”

She froze and felt Eddie do the same next to her. To correct or let it slide? Her brain told her to correct it, obviously, but she couldn’t get the words out of her alcohol addled mouth.

They were saved by a very drunk, very large man falling on their table. She squealed and latched onto Eddie. He held her as she giggled and stumbled. She was a bit more drunk than she usually got at parties, but she couldn’t help it. She’d had a stressful day, and somehow she knew he wouldn’t let anything happen to her.

“How you doing?” he mumbled.

“I’m good, Eddie. Really good. And you know what?”

“What?” He gave her a soft grin.

“I think I’m glad Jason broke up with me,” she whispered with a big smile.

She giggled again. She thought she heard him say something like “me too,” but she wasn’t sure.

Someone started up a boombox, and she gasped. She dragged Eddie closer to the bonfire roaring in the center of it all.

“Dance with me?”

“Of course.”

And he looped his arms around her, resting his interlocked hands on the small of her back. She rested her hands on his shoulders. The two swayed, staring at each other in a way that made her stomach flutter.

She was just about to maybe lean forward and place her lips on his when a voice broke through the music.

“Hey, freak! Get your hands off her!”

Eddie was convinced the universe hated him. Chrissy had been looking at him like more than just Eddie “the freak” Munson when Jason Carver’s hands were gruffly shoving him. Chrissy protested and stumbled. He moved forward to steady her, but Carver shoved him. What seemed like the whole basketball team stood behind Jason, forcing Chrissy to step backwards as they filed in. God, where had they even come from? It was like they’d materialized out of the dark.

“The fuck is your problem?” Eddie asked. He heard the music cut off and knew everyone was staring. Carver shoved him again, but this time Eddie grabbed the other boy’s shirt.

“Stay away from her,” Jason said softly. “I won’t let you have her, freak.”

Eddie’s vision went red. He already despised Carver, but his newfound protective streak of Chrissy had him pushing the other boy to the dirt. Carver yelped in surprise, but seemed too shocked to defend himself. No one’s ever fought back, Eddie thought grimly. Well, he’d learn a lesson tonight.

Chaos broke out. It was the misfits against the jocks. Fists flew, beer cans met heads, sneakers were lost to the night, and Eddie ended up straddling Jason in the dirt. He slammed the other boy’s head against the gravel and dirt before yanking him up by the shirt collar and bringing his fish squarely onto his nose.

“S-stop—”

He paid the plea no heed. Everyone thought he was so bad—maybe tonight he’d prove them right.

He landed another punch. He pictured the teachers nodding and talking of how Eddie Munson had always been a bad kid, how his mugshot was inevitably etched in his future. His chest was tight. That’s all he was to them—a future convict, a kid who’d never make it out.

As he raised his bloodied fist again, it was stopped by soft hands. He didn’t need to look back to know it was Chrissy because even without seeing her, she set his skin aflame.

“That’s enough,” she murmured. She pushed down until his arm fell limply at his side. She ran her fingers through his hair. “Let’s go.”

She stepped back, offering him a hand. The bonfire lit her up from behind, turning her into an angel.

My Angel, he thought groggily.

Without another word, he took her hand and took her home.

I feel.... happy;

And it's indeed weird.

Because I haven't feel this kind of warmth in my birthday since i had like, 8 and it's just kind of amusing for me to put together the picture of happiness in growing old

Suppose it's about make amends with your younger version and feel at peace with how you used to be

Do you think about heaven? When you leave, all you take Is your memory And I'm gonna take Mine of you with me

Just realized that the reason I love making friends on tumblr is because it’s exactly how you make friends on the playground as a six year old. No, I don’t know their name but they love mermaids too and built this awesome sand castle. No, I don’t know their age but their imaginary cheetah is friends with mine. You like this show? You like this character?? You can sing the theme song really loud??? Here is a flower crown. Here is a juice box. You can share my time and I might never see you again but part of you stays in my soul forever. In my mind we’re still on the swing set and the sky is blue and nothing will ever be wrong again.
