Support railroad workers. #RailWorkers
This a a reminder to not fall victim to the sunk-cost fallacy. Just because you invested time and energy into something, does not mean you should indefinitely waste more time and energy on it, if you decide it’s not what you want anymore. This goes for anything, from books, to relationships, to jobs, to hobbies, etc.
If it’s not serving you anymore, move on.
prepare yourselves
An incredibly powerful video. Two women, one secular and one religious, both stand against the regime of Iran.
Please share the amazing courage and dignity of these women.
I cannot impress on young women enough, regardless of anything else about politics, having the ability to vote codified (and regular elections to vote in!!) is historically bananas abnormal, and only exists because of lots of hard work by lots of regular people. I'm not saying you have to like your lot or have some sort of jingoistic hard on while you skip to the ballet box, but like full on distrust ppl that want you to think voting is some loser sport only the hivemind do. the other option is, you know, like, serfdom. or other horrible shit lol. and you know fuck it, if you don't wanna vote, whatever not my business. but don't believe for a second that voting is the enshrined old school unquestioned institution that it isn't. like it super duper isn't. that doesn't mean it can't be improved, of course! but it's not the way a good chunk of powerful people would actually choose for us if they could decide. bezos already runs his amazon warehouses like a 13th century fief lord as far as he can he would love to do more of that actually. he's not restraining himself where he can out of the goodness of his heart like. he would reinvent the company store tomorrow. he would pay in Amazon bucks to buy Amazon goods yesterday. He would install an Amazon Tribunal head by Amazon Pope to resolve all conflicts and they would all resolve with King Bezos having divine power by virtue of the fact that he has power and you would just be fucked and bezos would love that actually. as an example.
DURING AN OPEN commission meeting Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission voted unanimously to enforce laws around the Right to Repair, thereby ensuring that US consumers will be able to repair their own electronic and automotive devices.
The FTC’s endorsement of the rules is not a surprise outcome; the issue of Right to Repair has been a remarkably bipartisan one, and the FTC itself issued a lengthy report in May that blasted manufacturers for restricting repairs. But the 5 to 0 vote signals the commission’s commitment to enforce both federal antitrust laws and a key law around consumer warranties—the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act—when it comes to personal device repairs.
The vote, which was led by new FTC chair and known tech critic Lina Khan, also comes 12 days after President Joe Biden signed a broad executive order aimed at promoting competition in the US economy. The order addressed a wide range of industries, from banks to airlines to tech companies. But a portion of it encouraged the FTC, which operates as an independent agency, to create new rules that would prevent companies from restricting repair options for consumers.
