I feel like people miss the point of the "war is bad" message

What it's supposed to mean is that war is terrible, it's destructive, it ruins lives, it leaves scars, and you should only partake in it when there are no other options, because even if you win, even if you survive, you will not be the same, which is why the phrase used to be more commonly known as "war is hell"

But "war is bad" seems to have been construed by people in fandom (and more worryingly in real life too) into "any fighting is bad, if you fight you're morally terrible and impure, you should not fight at all, no matter what"

And that's almost never the point of "War is Bad" works

Works like lotr, atla, transformers, the clone wars, etc all have themes on how horrible war is, but they categorically do not say it is wrong to fight, what they say is usually along the lines of "war is terrible, and what makes it so terrible is that we have no choice but to fight, it would be ideal if we didn't have to fight at all, but we must fight, because not fighting is not an option, because not fighting, not opposing tyranny, conquest, and evil only allows those things to exist unimpeded"

I hope no one is falling for the same horseshit Korean misogynist men try to barf up when they want “logical” westerners to be on their side regarding 🤏. The thing that always strikes me when they fear-monger about the defunct megalia website is this: if these women writing “cruel” things online and engaging in mirroring techniques is enough to brand them man-haters and have them become some eternal boogeywomen, why aren’t the men stabbing, killing, raping, witch-hunting, sexually trafficking and beating women - because they are women - branded as extreme women-haters in turn? Surely these targeted attacks that have happened, and continue to happen frequently, are enough to label these men extremist misogynists whose actions and texts are dangerous to Korean society? But instead, as we have seen recently, their deranged misogynist thoughts are carefully listened to and their delusions are catered to by major companies.

Secondly, these guys like to portray the women they go after as having dangerous opinions by saying, oh the pinched fingers means they’re megal and therefore it’s a secret signal for all these “hateful” thoughts. However the “radical, hateful thoughts” the men trawl through these women’s social medias to find have always ended up being basic women’s rights: the right to have an abortion, being against sex trafficking, being against molka, condemning misogynist hiring practices, etc. These extremely basic tenets of feminism are what these men consider radical and dangerous to society. When they try to pull the wool over your eyes by saying “feminism is different in korea it’s extreme and evil” THESE are the things they mean. Saying “it’s a megal symbol for crazy female supremacy” is a smokescreen for misogynist men to punish women who want basic human rights. The smaller group of women engaging in 4B there try to live their lives in a female-centered way, away from men. These are the women that misogynist men revile so much that simply existing as a woman with short hair is enough for them to violently attack you with a knife. So how does this make sense? The women branded as evil misandrists live their lives avoiding men and uplifting other women. The men who hate women do the complete opposite: they go out of their way to physically and sexually assault women and get them fired from their jobs. The misogynists in that group who witch hunt women are not labeled extremists, but rather catered to by companies like Nexon. Don’t fall for their shit.

Because I remember disinformation being spread around the last few elections and I’m sure assholes will bring it back:

YOU CAN’T VOTE ONLINE.

YOU CAN’T VOTE FROM YOUR PHONE.

IN MANY STATES THERE ARE LEGAL CONSEQUENCES FOR PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR BALLOT.

DO NOT WEAR CAMPAIGN GEAR TO THE POLLS.

DO NOT TRY TO PERSUADE PEOPLE TO VOTE FOR A CANDIDATE AT THE POLLS.

DO NOT ENGAGE IN ANY KIND OF POLITICAL DISCOURSE AT THE POLLS.

NO ELECTION IS EVER A SURE THING, EVEN IF YOU’RE IN THE BLUEST OR REDDEST OF STATES.  IF SOMEONE TRIES TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN SIT THIS ONE OUT, THEY ARE EITHER IGNORANT OR MALICIOUS.

VOTE.

This is Shiraz - one of the most ancient cities in Iran. Modern day Shiraz is situated 60 kilometres southwest of the ruins of Persepolis. It is a beautiful, lively and strong city. City of Hafez, poetry, music, arts and love. These are the women of Shiraz, walking the streets of the city without the mandatory hijab and raising their hands in victory.

So This Just Showed Up As An Ad For Me. Don't Know What Algorithm Put It There, But Wtf.

So this just showed up as an ad for me. Don't know what algorithm put it there, but wtf.

Doxycycline?!?!?! To treat acne?!?!

Buckle up, because a member of the microbiology side of Tumblr is about to go off.

Do yall know what this stuff is. It's an antibiotic. I (and many others) was prescribed this for the first 90 days I was in Afghanistan to prevent malaria. Other times I've seen it used was for when people were exposed to highly pathogenic bacteria while necropsying sick animals. Other uses, to treat venereal diseases caused by bacteria.

What I'm saying is, this stuff will mess you up. It doesn't target a specific single bacteria, it indiscriminately wipes out many bacteria it comes in contact with.

Now, that may seem good right, kill the bacteria causing whatever, but there's a reason antibiotics are for a relatively short term and require a prescription. Not only will it kill the "bad" bacteria, but it will also kill off a lot of your "good" gut microbes, which is really bad in the long-term. We're in a pretty symbiotic relationship with our own microbiota. If you've ever been prescribed antibiotics, you've probably experienced the effects of killing off all the bacteria in your GI tract i.e. diarrhea, malaise, maybe some depression, and a whole host of other side effects. That's because you don't have the "good" bacteria helping you with your digesta. You're not getting all of the nutrients you'd normally get because your ingesta isn't getting fully broken down before passing through you.

Another downside of killing off all of these bacteria, they provide provide an immunologic barrier for you, meaning they have established populations that require resources to sustain themselves. Having an established microbiota makes it harder for a new "bad" bacteria to establish itself before the immune system can mount a strong response because they have to compete for limited resources with a strong well-established gut population. This is one of the main reasons yogurt is a suggested post antibiotic food, it has those good bacteria in it and it helps to reestablish a good gut microbiota. If you wipe everything out though, this provides the bad bacteria with a chance to take up residence and potentially make you VERY sick or even kill you.

Finally, this seems like it'd be a pretty unsupervised deal. We already have a problem with antibiotic resistance from people not following through with a complete antibiotic regiment. Can you imagine what can happen if a bunch of people are taking this, experience the side effects, and then stop taking it. It'll make stronger, more pathogenic bacteria that will cause a lot of harm.

What I'm saying with this is, the purported benefit of getting rid of "acne causing bacteria" (I honestly don't know the validity of this claim, but I am going to be in the literature after I make this post to followup) is definitely not worth the side effects of taking this.

TL;DR version: doxycycline is a strong antibiotic that's used for a lot more than just acne.

Taking it without first consulting a doctor can and will lead to much more harmful effects than clearing up acne.

I'm begging anyone who follows me to please reblog this because word needs to be spread about why this is a REALLY BAD IDEA.
