to those of you who are moving here from tiktok, from someone whos used both tiktok and tumbr for years...

1. DO NOT censor your posts

dont censor sex, abuse, suicide, dont censor it. we dont have censors like tiktok does, you wont be banned for talking about these things and tagging them properly helps people avoid them (also, we dont have shadowbanning here)

2. we dont really have an algorithm

you follow who you follow, and you see posts from who you follow or what you search. the 'for you page' is basically useless here. this also brings me to my next two points

3. dont crosstag

we get it, on tiktok you have to crosstag for reach, but thats not really a thing here. just tag your posts properly (also posters often leave more info about the post in the tags!! and when you reblog stuff you can leave your own notes in the tags, kind of like the old "repost comments" on tiktok)

4. dont expect to go viral/be famous

"viral" isnt really a thing on here (at least not for the average blogger). your posts will probably get 2-10 likes and you wont get nearly as many followers than on tiktok. thats just how tumblr is

5. blocking is your best friend

tiktok is VERY discussion based, and while tumblr is much more discussion based than other social medias, its still not a good place for ragebait/discourse. dont interact, itll make your experience worse in the end, just block and move on

6. you cant go into someone elses house and start rearranging their furniture

this is tumblr, not tiktok. dont diss old tumblr users for how they use the site or try to change them, thats like going into someone elses house and trying to rearrange their furniture. we've been here longer and we're familiar with the site and its culture, either find your niche, adapt, or find a different app

Imagine how Paris population would react to it's Guardian lying to them, tricking them into believing that a terrorist was a hero?

Don't get me wrong, Marinette was in a lose-lose situation and there was nothing she could to make everyone happy, but she chose the wrong choice. Lying to everyone to delay Adrien's inevitable reaction to his Dad being a supervillain, to delay Paris reaction to a famous fashion designer being a supervillain, and all of those reactions will be made worse because of Marinette's lie, not despite it.

Like even Alya is only mad at Marinette because she chose to lie and manipulate everyone, so what does she think Paris petty citizens will do when they find out (unless Marinette was planning to take this secret to the grave)

Her wins are like "The boy I like asked me out! :)"

Her losses are like "I let my enemy rewrite the universe! Oopsie! :)"

remember seeing a post that said marinette was a girlfailure and just. no. she's just a failure (derogatory). her "wins" in the show are usually personal but her losses far outnumber all of that.

Yeah, like, “gilrfailure” is supposed to be the opposite of “girlboss”, a girl character that’s endearingly pathetic and pitiful. This is because it started off as a self-deprecating joke for women and girls online who didn’t see themselves as having the drive to become “girlbosses”. From there it snowballed into this idea of female characters that purposefully go against the girlboss mold to show femininity as more than just being a constant go-getter.

While Marinette is pathetic and pitiful, that’s only because the writers failed so utterly at making her a girlboss. There’s no deliberate subversion here. We are supposed to read Marinette as a girlboss, but she fumbles every single goal she had and the only reason she’s still around and kicking and dating the guy of her dreams is that the villain changed his mind about what to do when he won and the boy she was into changed his mind about who he was into and decided to pursue her instead. We aren’t supposed to laugh about Marinette getting the world destroyed and having Adrien just decide they’re dating one day; we’re actually supposed to view Marinette as winning here. The writers literally say so in the commentary for the season 5 finale.

I feel like the new “girlfailure” moniker being applied is either Maripologists trying to make every positive/quirky character trope apply to Marinette or them getting wise to the growing criticism of how much Marinette accidentally sucks at everything the writers insist she’s good at and are trying to turn that into a positive. It’s like “it’s okay Marinette isn’t the competent, intelligent hero we were told she is because failing is cute!”

adrien is anemic

With my recent Harry Potter posts gaining traction, I just want to make an important note:

You are not a bad person for having enjoyed Harry Potter. You are not a bad person for finding it hard to let go of something so ingrained into your life. You are not a bad person for enjoying the overall story of Harry Potter despite the bigotry JK Rowling managed to smatter into it.

Nobody should be telling you that you are. Your past relationship with Harry Potter is not the issue.

The issue is what you and we all do moving forward with the new information and facts that we know.

And the facts are that JK Rowling is a rampant and proud bigot who is hellbent on using the fortune Harry Potter made her to actively pursue the entire trans community with hostile intent.

And she does not care. She is happy that she is doing it. She is happy that people oppose her because it gives her an excuse to play victim and paint trans people who oppose her as violent, aggressive and evil.

This is not about how you engaged with Harry Potter in the past. Or even how you engage with it privately. This is about whether or not you choose to contribute toward her mission and towards the persecution of trans people right now.

Because when you buy that licensed merch in the store, she gets part of the profit. When you go to Harry Potter World, she gets part of the profit. When you buy the Harry Potter game, she gets part of the profit.

And all of those things result in three consequences:

It shows the marketing departments that Harry Potter is still a cashcow.

It shows JK Rowling that she can say and do whatever the hell she wants and nothing is going to stop that money rolling in.

She is given a steady cashflow which she uses to bankroll anti-trans movements and spokespeople and government petitions.

That is the reality of your choice from here on out. That is why people are asking you to set aside what you once had with Harry Potter and to stand with the people she has made it her life's mission to destroy.

You don't even have to let go of it completely. Just let go of the interactions that directly fund JK Rowling. Just cut off the cashflow she's using to ruin the lives of people she's never even met.

Buy fanmade merchandise or learn how to make your own. If you're cosplaying? Buy unofficial cosplays or buy second-hand off resale websites. Same with other merchandise.

If you want to watch Harry Potter, there are hundreds of non-licensed steaming websites showing it which do not contribute royalty income to JK Rowling.

If you're writing Harry Potter fanfiction, use a site like AO3 which will defend you tooth and claw if she gets desperate and starts coming after fan creators.

Harry Potter might be the comforting memories of your childhood, but JK Rowling is an active threat to the literal livelihood of trans people. People who could lose legal rights and protections simply because of one vicious woman with a bigoted agenda and deep pockets.

All we're asking is that you compare your reasons for enjoying Harry Potter with the facts of why you should make a few simple, easy choices to avoid bankrolling her and determine which is more important.

Or rather, which one should be more important.

And make the right choice.
