Lucas looks up from the list he'd been writing out of things to do after the storm ends. If it even ends.
He shakes his head at his deputy.
"Sorry. No smokes for me. As for options, it looks pretty slim pickings right now."
He gestures over the bar to where there's notably no one working right now.
open to all. location: motel bar
A job of a deputy included a lot of risks, more than he'd ever imagined outside of Oz. But the blood stained uniform covered in heavy rain, leaving a trail of water behind him as he approached the Motel bar, was enough to showcase just how done he'd been with all the risk taking for one night. He was not fucking paid for this, or trained for this, and being outside right now? Running blind? It was nothing short of a death wish. "What we havin'?" question is directed to his right and he'll take out a pack of cigarettes now fully soaked through. "Fuck...you got a smoke? Preferably dry?"
Lucas notices the trembling and how calm Rae is trying to make his voice. It must be really bad.
"You want help? I can help move this body and then walk you home."
He steps to Rae's side so he can look at his face. A mask of calm that makes Lucas even more concerned. How bad was it?
rae shook his head, unable to speak at first until he felt luc’s hand on his back. the touch made him release a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding and, as much as he hated to admit it, brought him comfort. why did he need comfort? he was fine, had seen bodies in the same state as hers countless times. this wasn’t any different.
“no, no, i’m due for a break. this one i just have to uh…put back with the rest.” one after the other, they all looked the same, faces he didn’t recognize…except for kina’s. why did they seem to always leave the face?
“i’m fine,” he insisted, despite the obvious tremble in his hands. “just tired.”
"I mean, you haven't been dragged off by the sheriff's, so I'd say you're killing it."
He snickers, then his face turns to a determined grin.
"Oh, you're so on."
He walks over and prepares his side. He's only done this once or twice, and he's pretty sure he lost. Though the amount he and his opponents threw up, maybe they all lost.
"So is it like this every year?"
El barely has time to process the flash of movement before Adrien’s arms are wrapped around them in a warm, enthusiastic hug. They blink, momentarily surprised, but then a broad smile takes over their face as they settle into the embrace, giving Adrien a firm squeeze in return.
“Oh yeah?” El chuckles, a playful glint in their eyes as they pull back slightly, taking in Adrien's costume with a look of approval. “Guess I made it hard to track down the towns newest cowboy, huh?” They give their cowboy hat a small tilt, a grin tugging at the corner of their lips. “Good to see you too, Adrien.”
El slaps Adrien lightly on the back, nodding toward the game of beer pong. “Whoever loses has to repair what people break tonight” Ellington challenges him with a grin.
Lucas sighs.
"Yeah, I know. I just wish your team was part of the whole team too."
He offers a handshake as a formal apology.
"Sorry for wasting your time," he says. "If you hear anything about the missing stock, could you at least let me know who it was after you take it from them?"
CHERRY SIGHS JUST A LITTLE BIT . she gives lucas a look that's only half exasperated . " yeah, well ." the roll of cherry's eyes is halfhearted . " just cause i'm a trouble maker doesn't mean it's always me ." it just probably is, but somehow cherry doubts that now is the time to mention that . " and — i'm on a team ." the protest is accompanied by a lackluster shrug . " s'just ... mine ."
Lucas laughs.
"Fine, fine."
He adjusts to match Muz's positioning. He looks up at the clear sky as he decides what thoughts to share.
"Well, to be honest, I'm trying not to freak the fuck out over the storm and yeah, it's been making it hard to sleep. Not to mention, I keep thinking I hear rain for some reason."
'Scavenger, me. Next penny I find, it's going in your pocket.' Muz stretches out his legs in front of him, giving his boots a little scuff against the gravel, leaning back on the bench. 'Go on, you gotta spill now. Entertain me,' he says, tilting his head as if he’s settling in for a story, eyes brightening a little. 'Need an advance before I go scrounging for pennies.'

Adrien moves through the house, taking a break from dancing to find people he knows.
He's spotted and chatted with a few but there's one in particular...
There they are.
He grins and runs up to El. He throws his arms around them in a huge hug.
"I've been looking everywhere for you," he says excitedly.
Adrien is immediately interested in the little she'd said. He walks further into the room.
"You know, I was thinking we could probably make some decent windmills to generate power," he says, looking down at the book she was reading. "It's pretty windy here, and it'd be more reliable than solar power."
"It's cool," she said looking at the source from inside the notebook from where she was sitting on the floor. "I'm just trying to figure out new power source, but with limited- " she said before glancing up to see who was speaking to her before closing the book. "Do you need something?"
