Peyote memories
ballpoint pen and alcohol
Calbayog City 2024
I think the only mind altering substance that I truly miss from my misspent youth is peyote.
Way back then, back before life's crushing journey had forced responsibility upon me, I found that next to the emotion of love, the mental state produced by consuming the peyote cactus was perhaps the most wonderful thing this side of paradise.
We, my friends and I, used to blend the peyote buttons in V8 juice.
We called it V9 juice.
"Watch out for that 9th vegetable," we would say.
And crack up.
Totally unrelated but here are a couple drawings I did this morning..
I don't know why but they got me thinking about psychedelics.

And yes, they do look similar. That's because I drew one of the drawings on the backside of the other drawing.
Why not? 🤣

I have this idea for a science fiction story.
In the story during an unborn child's nine months in the womb, the child's entire life is slowly played out for them like in a movie so that by the time they are born they know everything that is going happen to them in their life.
In the story then when the mother is about to give birth, the unborn child faces the opening cervix and looks out to their inevitable future with dread.
Being born then wipes away all memory of this.
But each person then leads their lives with the uneasy feeling that everything is a forgone conclusion.

Black Sharpie on manila paper
Miami 2010
I lived in Miami for a few years. I rented a small apartment right on the bay. It was lovely. Iguanas and land crabs used to wander around the yard. Beat that!
Miami has some of the most lovely beaches on earth. I used to hang out at oceanside cafes sipping esspresso coffee and drawing.
Back then my main art tool was the ultra fine black sharpie.
I was into drawing what to me were guilts. Crisp black and white drawings done off the cuff. I drew a bunch of them.
Here's another one.

My art arose from my doodling during class. I mean seriously, what else are you supposed to do during lectures? And you have a pen in your hand...
I later doodled at work. Same game different time zone.
So here are some doodles. I drew these particuar doodles at work. They were drawn with whatever pen I had at the moment on whatever paper was handy.
My ever present coffee cup staring at me on my office desk.
As a side note I have many things to be thankful for and coffee is high up o the list.
"Time to save time" God help us.
I like this one.
I like some of my doodles as much as my larger pieces. I drew this one on a Japanese post card. Not really sure why I had a Japanese post card.
I'll post more doodles later.
Cheers.

Almost felt you touching me just now Wish I knew which way to turn and go Feel so good, then I feel so bad Wonder what I ought to do
If I could only fly, if I could only fly I'd bid this place goodbye and come and be with you But I can hardly stand, I got no where to run Another sinking sun, one more lonely night

I absolutely adore Edvard Munch but here's the deal.. If you search for Munch's art you're going to get like a million copies of "The Scream" which is a great painting sure, but there is so much more to Edvard Munch than "The Scream."
Anyway, IMHO, Edvard Munch is a wonderful artist and if you like drawing he is certainly someone well worth studying.

I must have drawn fifteen variations of this drawing. I don't know why. Most of them I drew during down time at work. I liked the image. I still do. It gives me hope for the future. Again, I don't know why.
Maybe I'll draw another.

As I've been working on my latest drawings, I've been having this strange sense of having been here before. Not exactly deja vu but there was something. And then I remembered this drawing.
This drawing used to be my favorite drawing. I spent some time on it and looking at it now it still looks pretty cool. I hate to explain my art so I won't. It just, to me, looks cool.
When I drew it I was living in this cute little back house in Rosemead California surrounded by avacado trees. Not that that has anything to do with the drawing, but the avacados were great.
With my new drawings, if you look at them, it seems I have been unwitingly redrawing this older drawing, over again. Same thing only different.
Like I said it used to be my favorite drawing. Maybe deep down it still is..
