My community has been devastated by Hurricane Hanna on top of soaring covid cases. Contrary to what people on "Good Morning America" think, this was not a *good spot" for the hurricane to hit. Our region is often ignored by most of America but I'm asking for your help on behalf of a classmate. Any help would be appreciated, please boost if you cant donate.
Here I am, a pinoy from the tropics love the sun, hate the snow, die in rain.

Sorry. Forgot to upload this one last week.
I don't usually get to use my tagalog or even show people that I CAN speak it but I've heard many things about racism in the United States and I am TERIFFIED because of how much I hear about it. I have plans to work in the medical field and my mama said that I should study and work in America because you get paid more. Not very excited...
I think the racism happens because the country allows it to, learning new languages allows you to appreciate how different the world is and get used to the diverse sounds of languages. Since there is a great limit and not much support going into having people be fluent in foreign languages this doesn't happen.
Not only that, without the experience of trying to be fluent in one language there is a lack of appreciation for people who HAVE to become fluent in English inorder to better the lives of themselves, family and their descendants.
My parents come from the philippines and immigrated to the UK, my mom speaks to people because my dad tends to struggle with things like "he or she" because there is just "sya" for both genders and can't remember singular words for ideas which are seen as basic to English speakers but is still considered fluent because you could hardly tell unless you've known him a long time.
Here's the real kicker, they're trilingual. Both my parents speak their local language (I can only understand a word or two per sentence 😅) , Tagalog AND English plus a good deal of Spanish (not enough to be fluent but could hold a conversation).
If the US just gave people more motivation to study languages then I feel like the racism would die down. Seriously, cutting down the foreign language studies is letting racism continue.
I'm not sure if it's died down at all or if it's increased since I'm not there to see it but considering the president's history... Uh...
I'm not so sure... (If I'm wrong I'm sorry, I've been immersing in work, books and duolingo)
Edit: I've gotta add this but, one time my family were walking to wagamama and we were conversing in tagalog when some dudes rode by saying "A ching Chong ching", excuse me? First off, just because we look Asian and speak a different language doesn't mean we're Chinese, I've had that before, I hate it. Second, I have and have had Chinese friends, if they heard you!!! I don't understand why you felt it necessary to do that, you're not going to achieve anything...
Hi Tumblr
The things happening over in america are horrendous, but also making way for changes for the better. They’re making the whole world have a discussion about racism still woven into our societies.
But please. It’s pride month. My country, my people need this to be on the lips of the world.
Reblogging because omg this is beatufil and they don't need to know the characters to find the message beautiful. ❤️
Nordictalia: “And I came to tell you....”
“...that you are not your past. The person you were doesn’t get a say to define who you are right now. Where you came from, what lead you here, what you did, who you used to be... they all don’t matter. You are growing and becoming better, leading a road to redemption and improvement. You deserve happiness; you are worth forgiving.”
“...that you are not broken, and you don’t need fixing; you’re beautiful and perfect and enough just the way you are. You’re allowed to have flaws and you’re allowed to have strength. You’re allowed to discover who you are and see the world for yourself. You’re allowed because you don’t need that permission from anyone but yourself. Allow yourself to be human, to be beautiful, to be perfectly imperfect. Allow yourself to be alive.”
“...that you are loved, so loved. You are not alone, and never forgotten. You are not less than anyone else. You’re just as valid, just as worthy, and just as amazing and wonderful— arguably more. You’re so beautiful and amazing, so strong and brave. You are smart and capable and great, and there’s more in the world for you to see and do, and you have to be here to find them.”
“...your progress is still progress. A small task done or a few minutes out of the house is progress. Backtracking, slumps, and bad days are part of the journey to recovery; no one said it would be easy. You’re here and you’re alive, and that’s enough of a sign that you are strong enough to make it to the end, that there is more for you at the end of the line. For now, all you have to do is take care of yourself, to love yourself, to keep breathing and keep trying. You’re doing great. Keep it up.”
“...you are needed alive. You have value and worth just for being yourself. There are things in this world that are thought of, seen, made, and felt, in the way that only you can do. You have so many places to see, things to do, people to meet, things to feel. Adventure awaits you, comfort awaits, love and recovery... it’s all waiting for you.Your life is worth living, in a way that you get to decide. There’s so much more in this great universe for you; please be there to see it.”
say his name. no justice, no peace.
