Lukanette: A Silencer AU

This wasn’t her first plan for taking down Silencer. Not by a long shot. But…

She wasn’t complaining.

Marinette hadn’t been able to find a good place to transform since some of the staff had grabbed her and pulled her into a back room to wait for Ladybug and Chat Noir to appear. In the meantime, Silencer had dragged a full confession out of Bob Roth and was now waiting for Paris’ superheroes to turn up so he could fulfill his end of Hawkmoth’s bargain. Marinette needed to get out, and fast.

One of the cameramen had pulled out his cell and was streaming the live news report of Chat Noir. Everyone was wondering where Ladybug was. Her Chaton was holding off Silencer (for now) but she didn’t want to know what would happen if he got his voice taken away and couldn’t escape.

A thought struck her. “Hey, why don’t we all go help Chat Noir? It’ll give Ladybug more time to get here.”

“Are you insane, kid?”

“What’s the worst he can do? Take away our voices? All we need to do is distract him long enough for Ladybug to arrive.”

“The kid’s got a point…”

It took a few more minutes of convincing, but eventually she got them all riled up and ready to fight. The entire crew stampeded out of the closet and grabbed camera stands, chairs, a whole assortment of improvised weapons to defend their city. None of them cared about Bob Roth, he’d always been horrible, but they’d be damned if Silencer hurt either of their heroes.

Marinette held back a little while, hoping they’d leave her in the commotion. Just as the last member of the film crew left, who crashed through the side of the building but Silencer and Chat Noir.

There was a moment of silence as all three took in the situation.

I need to get out of here and transform.

I need to protect Marinette from Silencer.

I need to protect Marinette from Chat Noir.

Marinette moved a fraction of a second before the other two, turning towards the door to the roof.

“Marinette!”

“Oh, so now you want to protect her?” Silencer tackled Chat Noir to the ground and launched himself after Marinette. “Where were you when she needed you, huh? I’m the only protector she needs now!”

“Run Marinette!”

And she watched as Chat Noir’s voice turned into a little jellyfish and vanished inside Silencer’s helmet.

Her feet were pounding down linoleum tiles, twisting and turning through the massive building as she tried to find somewhere to hide.

“Marinette, you’re safe now! I’m not going to hurt you! Stop running!” Silencer yelled behind her with XY’s voice.

He was gaining on her fast. Too fast. She had maybe two seconds to get around a corner and hope he didn’t see her. She turned.

Dead end.

Her heart was pounding as she slid down the wall. This was it. This was how she died. She’d lose her voice, not be able to transform, and Luka would be stuck as Silencer forever. Paris would be doomed to an eternity of quiet.

Unless…

Silencer turned the corner and she tackled him in a hug. He cradled her against his chest.

“It’s ok. You’re safe now.”

She looked up at him. This was her one and only shot at getting rid of the akuma right now, and she had no clue if it would work.

“You saved me.”

“Of course, Marinette. I won’t let anything hurt you. Ever.”

“Lu– Silencer. Can you… take off your helmet for a second? I… I want to give you something.”

Hawkmoth’s mask appeared over Silencer’s face for a moment and she worried it wouldn’t work.

“Marinette would never hurt me. I trust her.”

Silencer took the helmet off slowly and blinked at her. Without the helmet, he couldn’t speak either.

She reached up and cupped his face in her hands.

Now or never. I’m sorry, Luka.

She pulled his face down for a gentle kiss.

Somewhere, in the back of Luka’s mind, a pinprick of warmth appeared. It grew stronger and stronger until everything was burning, burning away the purple fog that clouded his thoughts and told him to act out on his unhealthy desires. The akuma… I was akumatized. Did I hurt anyone? Did I hurt–

“Marinette!”

Luka broke away from the kiss with a shout, looking around in bewilderment. In front of him was a very red Marinette. She was holding his face, looking just as surprised as he did.

“Did I… Did I hurt you?”

It worked. It actually worked. Just like when she kissed Chat Noir to break Dark Cupid’s hold on him, she was able to dispel Luka’s akuma. She stared over his shoulder where the akuma was fluttering about until she finally snapped back into Ladybug mode.

“You didn’t hurt me, but we need to get out of here. You go find Chat Noir, I’ll try to contact Ladybug. We’ll talk after, ok?”

She smiled the smile she normally reserved for Adrien Agreste and Luka could feel his heart melt.

“Y-yeah… ok. Be safe, Marinette.”

“You too.”

They both took off in opposite directions. Once Marinette couldn’t hear Luka’s footsteps anymore, she doubled back and transformed. With the akuma purified, she went to go find her partner. He was waiting on the roof with Luka.

“Where’s Marinette?” Both boys yelled.She really did feel wanted in that moment.

“She’s fine. I told her to get somewhere safe until I purified the akuma. Are you two alright? That looked pretty rough.”

“All good here, milady.” Chat Noir gave her a cheeky smile. “I held my own against him.”

She laughed. “Of course you did. What about you, Luka?”

He looked a little more contrite than her partner. “I don’t really remember what happened, but I’m ok now. You’re sure Marinette’s ok?” He looked up at her with fear in his eyes.

“She’s fine, I promise.” Ladybug reassured him before going in for a ‘pound it!’ with Chat Noir.

“Thanks for covering for me today kitty. Bug out!” She swung off over the Paris sky, just far enough to drop into an alley and run back into the building to find Luka.

“Over here! Luka!” She jumped and waved her hands, trying to be seen through the crowd of people returning inside. He caught sight of her and ran over, crushing her in a hug.

She laughed and hugged him back. “I’m so so so so so sorry Marinette, I didn’t mean to get akumatized, I promi–”

“Shush, you did it to protect me from Bob Roth. And you got a live confession from him, so that’s pretty great!”

“I did?”

“Yeah!” She pulled out her phone as the rest of Kitty Section caught up to them. Everyone agreed it was damning evidence and that neither of those two would be working in the music industry for a long time. Almost every company that had partnered with XY was blowing up Kitty Section’s social media asking for a collaboration. They’d have to talk about it as a band much later, but for now they were just happy to be back in one piece.

~A few days later~

Marinette still hadn’t talked to Luka about their kiss. She wasn’t even sure he remembered it, the way he jolted back as the detransformation washed over him. She would’ve been offended if he didn’t immediately check that she was ok. Tikki told her that she’d have to talk with him about it someday, and soon. It wasn’t right to keep it a secret from him.

So she’d decided to tell him today. She’d asked if he wouldn’t mind her coming over early before Kitty Section’s practice, and he’d said it was fine. Rose and Juleka were going to be out on a double date with Mylene and Ivan, so they’d probably have an hour or two to talk about whatever was on her mind.

Marinette wished her classmates a good rest of their day and started walking to the Liberty.

Adrien watched her go with an almost pained expression. He shouldn’t have felt that way. She’d clearly kissed him to get rid of the akuma, right? She never even saw Chat Noir round the corner. He’d jumped back almost immediately, watching the akuma leave Silencer’s helmet seemingly of its own volition. Why did it hurt so much to see her kissing someone else? They weren’t dating. She was just a friend. Sure, he’d thought that that valentine may have been hers, but there was no way! This was confirmation of it.

“Adrikins, wanna walk me home today?”

“Oh, uh… sure Chloe.” He glanced up at her and tried to smile. She was too absorbed in talking about herself to notice it was fake.

Luka held out a hand for Marinette as she stepped onto the Liberty. “What did you want to talk about?”

Please don’t let it be Adrien, please don’t let it-

“Silencer.”

Oh. Oh… “What, uh… what about Silencer?” His memories of that day were still fuzzy. Hopefully he didn’t say anything rude to her.

“You might wanna sit down for this.”

That was never good.

“Is everything okay Marinette? Did I say something while I was akumatized?”

“No! No, nothing like that. It was actually something I did.” Her face was bright red and she wouldn’t look him in the eye. When Luka didn’t say anything, she continued. “I don’t know how much you remember, but I feel bad keeping this to myself either way. I didn’t mean to, I just didn’t know what else to do, you see? I knew you wouldn’t hurt me, but Chat Noir was in danger and Ladybug still hadn’t shown up and–”

“Marinette, breathe.” He put his hands on her shoulders and squeezed gently. “Whatever it was, I’m sure you did what you had to.”

“So you don’t remember?” She looked up at him. He could feel her starting to shake under his hands.

“No, I don’t remember anything. When I came back, I was standing in front of you.” He’d thought a lot about that memory, actually. He’d pulled back, opened his eyes, and she was standing in front of him with her hands on his face. He had a guess as to what happened, but he couldn’t remember for sure. To be honest, he was afraid he’d forced a kiss on her and she was going to tell him she didn’t feel that way about him. That’s why he didn’t expect what she said next.

“I… I kissed you. Just to break your akumatization!” Marinette could feel Tikki glaring at her from inside her purse. “I would never kiss you without your permission, I mean!” She bit her tongue before she could say anything else.

“Oh thank god, I thought I kissed you while I was akumatized. Like, forced you to kiss me.” Luka’s cheeks were a soft pink. “Thank you, Marinette. You saved me. I see why everyone calls you their everyday Ladybug.” He teased, bumping shoulders with her.

“You’re… you’re not mad?” She glanced up at him.

“Of course not. You saved me from hurting anyone else. Why would I be mad?” He hadn’t missed that little bit about kissing him without permission, but he was waiting to see if she’d caught it.

“Well, I just thought, maybe…” She looked down at her shoes. “…nevermind.”

Luka stood up as he heard footsteps on the boat. Everyone must’ve gotten done with their date early. He had one last thing he needed to say. “Just so you know, Marinette…” He leaned down to whisper in her ear.

“You always have my permission.”

Ok. So this is just something I noticed in the ep. Earlier, we get this adorable scene where Luka and Marinette just click and seem to get the same idea with no other communication whatsoever. Like, they already know what each other is thinking and they know the other knows too. Initially, I thought was a Ladynoir parallel because they usually do the same thing during their own trysts.

But then, later on in the episode, Chat Noir and Ladybug look like they’re at a total dissonance. Maybe it’s a post-Oblivio effect or Chat’s more dense than usual, but the point is Ladynoir somehow doesn’t have that same level of communication as before. Like Ladybug gives up pretty quickly and just ends up texting him everything…and even then, Chat Noir kinda takes a while to get it, and makes a lot of jokes along the way. (Like why was he so happy about the fact that Ladybug might be her superhero persona permanently? Like, he even joked about it being a good thing? Weird flex, but ok)

Like, no salt…but that’s weird, right? Like why are these two situations being presented to us in the audience, when clearly, in previous episodes Ladynoir have no trouble communicating their plans without words and even get back to that rhythm later on?

Like, is it to show us that, hopefully, maybe, finally, there’ll be some change in the dynamics? Because season 1 Mari would have never been so taken with another dude (e.g. Nino, Nath, Chat Noir), but now Adrien doesn’t even cross her mind. Like, color me impressed, that’s development I didn’t expect. (And I’m kinda hoping it sticks).

Like, these are only my unorganized thoughts, feel free to disagree with me. But did anyone else notice the difference in atmosphere with the Ladynoir confession scenes and the Lukanette confession scenes we’ve had so far?

Anyways, I still ship Love Square but I also ship Lukanette and rn, I think deviance from the love square would be good for them, because Oblivio showed that without all the complicated factors of the love square with idealization and stuff, Adrienette is adorable. Meanwhile, Lukanette is a mutually supportive relationship where Marinette and Luka can both benefit from, and even if it doesn’t work out in the long run, they look like they’d be pretty happy together for the short time they would have.

Edit: So, I re-watched the ep, and apparently the whole Chat Noir thing being too nonchalant about Ladybug’s situation was an oversight on my part. Sorry about that. He looks pretty distressed before making a joke about it. Unfortunately Ladybug doesn’t take it too well. But even with that thought, Chat was pretty wholesome this ep so I didn’t mind tbh.

Also, this ep is apparently before Oblivio? Thanks to @karokitten-chan for pointing that out. Now, I’m curious about the in-between episodes but that’s another post.

Okay guys, here me out: Wicked AU

Basically imagine Lila just keeps lying and Marinette finally snaps, calling her out on her bullshit and everyone is pissed and Marinette is just like yeah fuck this, and leaves and Adrien tries to plead with her to apologize and basically it’s Defying Gravity with Marinette as Elphaba and Adrien as Glinda and it ends with Marinette choosing to do what’s best for herself and it was okay, let everyone think she’s wicked–at least she won’t be bowing down to anyone. 

So months pass and the school regards Marinette as a terrible person but she is still confident and proud. She laughs at the image that’s been given to her. No one goes near her or else it would be social suicide. 

Finally, Chloe is fed up and joins Marinette, Sabrina follows. Chloe knows Marinette is not a bully–she even is kind to her. Naturally, Chloe and Sabrina get shunned but ironically, they find Marinette’s company far more enjoyable than their other classmates and become overprotective of her against the class and Lila. 

In comes new student Felix, who sits in the back with Marinette, finding everyone in the class to be loud and annoying or trying to get into his space. Marinette is surprised, but offers him a sunny smile and lets him be. Felix finds her respect of his boundaries comforting. It isn’t long before Lila and the class, sans Adrien, try to convince Felix Marinette is wicked, but he doesn’t buy it. Marinette has been nothing but respectful towards him since he sat with her. 

Lila pulls something on him, maybe like steals something of his or vandalizes his bag, and tries to frame Marinette, who only faces him and says she didn’t do it, but she would do whatever it took to fix his bag. He sees honesty in her eyes and he doesn’t believe Marinette did it. He accuses Lila, noticing some clues that lead him to believe she was the one who vandalized his bag. Lila protests and puts up an act, but Felix doesn’t buy it, angry she did this and tried to frame Marinette. He tells off the class and says from what he’s seen, Marinette doesn’t do anything and doesn’t bother anyone so to him, they were the bullies and he doesn’t want to associate with bullies. They try to protest, citing that Marinette is a terrible person and Felix just says “I don’t care. You’re irrelevant. Get out of my sight.” 

He continues to sit with Marinette and they become closer and she invites him to sit with her, Chloe, and Sabrina. Chloe and Sabrina accept him, since they saw he was able to see through Lila’s lies and easily see Marinette wasn’t like that. They tell him Marinette has always been kind to them, even when they didn’t deserve it, so it was ridiculous to say that Marinette would vandalize his bag for no apparent reason. 

Marinette keeps her promise and sews up his bag, and Felix gets to spend some time with her at her house, finding it warm and soothing. Chloe and Sabrina often hang out there too. The four of them become a group. Marinette and Felix get closer, and Felix learns from her to not always be serious all the time. That sometimes life can be fun. She teaches him how to mellow out, but also respects his boundaries and interests. She listens to him, even when he’s grumpy, and offers him reassurances. Before Felix realizes it, he’s fallen for Marinette. Chloe notices, rolling her eyes, and calls him out. Felix gets defensive saying he doesn’t know what she’s talking about. 

“Well duh! Everyone falls for Marinette at some point! It’s happened to me already!” says Chloe scoffing, blushing. 

Soon Luka transfers to their school, worried about what he’s been hearing from Juleka. Marinette being evil? It was impossible to him. Seeing everyone shunning Marinette in action and seeing how she’s being treated immediately has him joining their group, very protective of Marinette from bullies. He won’t let anyone hurt his precious person. 

Eventually, Ladybug and Chat Noir fall out of balance. Adrien not sticking up for Marinette and ousting Lila riddles him with guilt, he often gets nightmares. He fights with himself, staying in denial. He was taking the high road–It was Marinette who chose not to get along with everyone. He didn’t force her to snap. Plagg has tried to get him to see his mistakes, but Adrien stays in denial. Eventually Plagg and the ring are taken from him, and Fu confronts him saying that he has failed his partner in her moment of need. Ladybug and Chat Noir need to be partners, and Adrien abandoned his partner. Adrien realizes that Marinette is Ladybug too late. He’s devastated. How could he do this to someone he claimed to be in love with? He is left alone to grieve for his loss. 

Next day he goes to the school and comes out with the truth. Lila is a liar. The class is shocked, horrified that Adrien apparently knew this whole time. Lila is quick to save herself, claiming that Adrien did something to her, and the others see that Adrien has been distant ever since Marinette has been shunned. They realize he has feelings for Marinette and deny he’s telling the truth. 

However, there are some who believe him, such as Kagami, who actually punches him when he tells the truth. She’s furious–Marinette was her first friend and Adrien lied, making it sound like Marinette was actually terrible and caused Kagami to stay away from her. She denounces Adrien and immediately sets forth to her class, telling them what she knew. Her class, containing Aurore and other kids, put to work to spread what they know to help Marinette. Marinette is shocked coming lunch time there’s a lot more people who want to sit with her. They apologize and tell her they’re going to fight for her. Kagami vows she will never let anyone steer her away from Marinette ever again. The girls cry together. 

Meanwhile, Felix finds Plagg’s box, and Plagg tells him he is now Chat Noir, as he has demonstrated loyalty to Ladybug. He figures out that Marinette is Ladybug, and he vows to be by her side on and off the battlefield. He goes to Marinette and confesses he now has the Cat Miraculous and knows she’s Ladybug. He tells her fiercely, embracing her tight “You’re never going to be alone again. I won’t ever let you suffer by yourself ever again. I swear it.” 

Eventually Chloe, Sabrina, Luka, Kagami, and a few others get their own Miraculous to join the fight against Hawkmoth. It doesn’t take them long to figure out who Ladybug is, and they love Marinette even more, also swearing loyalty to her. 

With Kagami’s class working towards denouncing Marinette’s previous image, students start getting smart, and soon Lila’s hold on them fades, and Lila is getting desperate. The school starts turning against each one of the classmates, and they are all angry and upset. Lila’s control over them is slipping, and they soon figure out that Lila has been indeed lying, Adrien was right, and they shunned their precious friend for months, claiming she was wicked and evil. They want blood. They end up getting akumatized and Hawkmoth has an army. Ladybug and the team defeat them, and they are left with regrets that they have hurt Marinette. They apologize to her, but she doesn’t forgive them. She actually thanks them because now she has actual friends that love and support her, and if they didn’t push her to her limits, she would’ve stayed depending on and loving people who didn’t return the favor. 

In the end, Adrien and Marinette have a talk, and Adrien reveals he knows she’s Ladybug and that he knows she will never forgive him, but he still loves her, and he’s going to spend every day making it up to her, and it’s okay she doesn’t love him back. Losing the ring made him realize he was being a child, and he needs to work on himself to be better. Marinette accepts his apology but doesn’t forgive him–maybe one day, she thinks, but not now. 

It ends with Marinette being happy with her new friends. Felix is beside her as always, and she eyes him fondly with a shy smile. He catches her look, giving her a smile. Everyone catches the exchange. 

“So I guess Felix is smitten now too, huh?” Luka speaks. Marinette squeaks while Felix gapes. Luka smiles “Nice to see you join the club.” 

“W-what?” Felix splutters. 

“Yes, liking Marinette is like a man breathing after all.” Kagami chimes in. Marinette’s face gets redder. 

“I don’t–”

“i told you, Felix. everyone eventually falls for Marinette sooner or later” Chloe flips some hair over her shoulder. 

“You–” 

“Oh, thank god. I thought I was the only one!” Sabrina confessed. Others sitting with them also chime in their own Marinette crushes and Marinette’s entire face is cherry red, and everyone coos at how adorable she is.
