I'm personally still not over Jinx sensually blowing into Vi's ear, and immediately being followed up with "Looking good sis".
hate when someone asks how are you and you say good how are you and they say "oh not so great" or something. it's always like ohh okay i see we're being honest i thought we were playing pretend. can i have a do-over
first of all, YOOOOOOOOOOOO DOUGLAS SPRITE HE IS A CHARACTER AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!
Love the implication that it's because Renee loves and cares about him. To their children, he is not a real person.
(tbf, he calls Andrew the wrong name so yeah can't blame him)
But more importantly, just as the beginning of the episode gives us an insight of Douglas' parents (overbearing sexist father, meek mother), this vision fleshes out both parents but especially Renee's family situation.
At 15, her parents gave her the ultimatum of either aborting or being kicked out. She chose her boyfriend over her family: they married, and stuck together no matter what. This already says a lot about her.
It's clear that part of this virulent hatred she's showing is not just because she, understandably, is bitter about not receiving support, but because part of her parents' worries ended up being right. Sure, Douglas is not an abusive asshole, and it's touching how much she defends him as much as he defends her. But raising children is much harder than she apparently thought. Look at how much she lies to her mom that they're doing swell. No way she's going to bitch about Ashley to her mom :)
The fact that Renee was kicked out might also explain part of her atittude towards her kids. She's not kicking them out, not even when Ashley became of age and was still a problem for her. Sure, she urges her to find a job, but in a more "normal" way. She's not going to put them through that. Although, of course, she expects to be thanked profusely for that.
Funnily enough, I think this cements for me that, despite Andrew seeing himself in his father, he's more like his mother, while Ashley might be more similar to the dad. Renee's main concern is, much like Andrew, appearances. She doesn't want to be remembered as the mom of two killers. She doesn't want to admit she screwed up by having kids so young. She lies and lies to pretend everything is fine and they're all a happy family. Douglas, on the other hand, is so apathetic that he accidentally echoes Ashley's complete lack of care for consequences. "welp, it's bad, but they're kids." I think this is ultimately why Ashley has Douglas' eyes and Andrew has Renee's eyes.
Oh! And, according to Renee, Andrew is "Accident" and Ashley is "Mistake". Makes sense. Andrew was most likely not wanted. But since he was a good kid, they chose to have Ashley... and Renee is regretting it every day.
Every proshipper deserves other proshipper friend so they can talk with each other freely without being scared of losing a friend or sounding weird .
Sometimes you just gotta make memes to cope with the pain.
I genuinely believe that Fumus is the biggest brocon in Okegom and no one is going to change my mind.
Like wdym that guy cursed his brother to never fall in love again? Why does he even care who Satanick falls in love with?? Dude that's none of your business 😭
And I find it funny to see people debating which one of them is the incestuous one and always going for Satanick when it's Fumus who does this kind of stuff, plus he's also probably the reason they both have sex in the first place (but at this point I'm already used to people never taking into account Satanick's trauma when talking about him sighhhh...)
I can't wait to find long, detailed analyses of that scene in the new episode
So who said that while Andrew is genuinely attracted to Ashley, she sees sex as a way to keep her brother close? Because will you look at that. Andrew told her that he was considering getting back together with Julia (not that he wanted to impregnate her to "seal the deal" though), they argued, he beat her black and blue in a scene I found very upsetting, and what's Ashley's reaction? Beg Andrew to fuck her even though she's not even into it, because it's not about the need for sex for her, she just wants to be sure, for once, that Andrew loves her. And clearly, she thinks sex is the only thing worthwile she can give - when asked why Andrew should keep her alive and with him, she has no solid answer other than "I can bake", because cooking and fucking are the only two things a woman is for, and if she can do both for Andrew, he will never abandon her no matter how much he hates her.
She even pressures Andrew into drinking because she knows that otherwise, he'll pull away once more, even if he, for once in his amoral life, seems to be genuinely unwilling to "prey on his baby sister".
now this is some toxic shit that leaves my guts all sad and confused. i love it <3
EDIT:
You are an extremely fascinating creature, Ashley. I can't even begin to unpack all of this.
If you take the incestuous codependency out of TCOAAL, there's basically nothing left of the characters, plot, or themes, so I have to assume the people who excise one of the siblings for the sake of an OC x Canon ship or butcher the Graves' personalities are in it for the game's aesthetics only. The phenomenon annoys me. TCOAAL is a cleaver-sharp critique of capitalism, Christianity, the nuclear family, and patriarchy, not a Pinterest moodboard. Even if you don't ship the Graves siblings, ignoring the lifelong influence they have exerted on each other, or else making Andrew into an emo daddy dom who did nothing wrong or Ashley into a nymphomaniac yandere goth gf, is antithetical to the source material and politically infantile.
