Every great director takes an acting class or two, Annabeth. Maybe performing on stage will help you connect better with your actors.
So that’s a big fucking lie.
If anything, Annabeth has even less patience for actors who struggle with direction. Her instructions are far clearer than this bumbling buffoon and he’s putting together a fairly coherent play. It makes no sense to her, then, that her direction is generally considered harsh and difficult across the school. If the acting students would just do as they’re told, they’d be signing photos of themselves for fans and she’d be on her way to Cannes right now. She’s an artist, god damn it, and she should be allowed some frustration when her idiotic cast insists on moving out of the frame or in front of the strobes despite a thousand blocking rehearsals. Honestly, if she were an actor on her own set, half her problems would be gone by now.
“Can we get Cinderella to centre stage?” The director calls and Annabeth stalks up to the centre, her arms crossed over her chest. “Great. Now, enter Prince Charming.”
Travis Stoll stumbles clumsily onto stage, wearing a goofy grin and a lopsided plastic crown, just as the director calls for the music to start. Travis is careful in the way he holds Annabeth’s waist- his palm rests just a little over her hipbone and his fingers spread out over the small of her back. His other hand holds hers so tenderly she almost can't believe he’s the same guy who, only ten minutes ago, knocked over the set department’s blue paint all across the stage.
“And action!”
Annabeth lets him lead her and marvels, a little, at ust how easily he twirls and dips and lifts her as they glide smoothly across the stage. They hit every spot that’s been blocked and somewhere overhead, she can hear the lighting crew scramble to keep up with them. Their director, some idiot called Matt Sloan, finally calls for them to cut and Travis drops her hands easily, taking a step away from her and breathing a little heavily. Annabeth finds herself doing the same thing- her cheeks feel hot under his gaze.
“Okay, that was great- Annabeth, you’re still a little faster than Travis so it looks like you’re leading him. Slow down. I’m going to have a chat with the sound team and we can take it from the stepsisters’ shoes scene, yeah?” Matt calls and Travis scratches the back of his neck, his cheeks a bright red.
She can’t bring herself to blame him, really; their waltz is the crux of the entire show. They’re expected to be light on their feet and heavy in their emotions and Annabeth appreciates that it is difficult for an actor to slip in and out of character. In this moment, she’s expected to be Annabeth- act, walk and talk like Annabeth Chase would- but her brain is still stuck in Cinderella’s- and she doesn’t mean it to be, but she’s a little bit in love with Travis Stoll right now. (She’ll kill you if you told anyone that.)

and they were roommates (chapter six)
When Annabeth wakes up, she’s in someone’s arms. The events of last night remain buried deep in her subconscious, and the only thing she processes is the warmth radiating from the chest she’s tucked against.
It’s Percy that’s holding her—he’s the only person who could be—and he’s fumbling with the knob of her bedroom door while trying to balance her. Her stomach lurches as she dips, the uneasiness in her gut unleashing a wave of memories and shame.
Annabeth half wishes she could play dead long enough for him to put her in bed and leave for work, but she owes him better than that. Her grand plan to catch him last night failed miserably, which she should’ve seen coming, but she was too upset to think critically. So, yeah, she owes it to him to be honest before he leaves, which could be any second.
Annabeth puts a heavy hand on his chest. “I’m up,” she mumbles.

They count on us!! If you know any other way we can help, please tell me!!
there are more of us than there are of them. they are asking us to be peaceful because they know this. they have assumed our peace was the same as respect.
they will tell you - being peaceful is the right thing, the honorable thing. they will not be honorable. they will continue to enact violence on you while reminding you of your morals - the same ones they have taught you.
i've said it before: there is no magical barrier stopping them from going "too far", there is no place where they "just stop". this only gets worse. they want to see how far they can push. in the coming days, they'll smile around their champagne and shush you if you post their addresses. they'll shame you for being so unfair, cruel, unkind. they'll go to ground for a little while, hoping it blows over.
they will say - we cannot listen if you raise your voice too loudly. there will always be a hoop to jump through, an image to upkeep. they want you to be pleasant, charming - easily ignored. they want to print out posters of your face they can mock up with devil horns. they do not want you to actually say - okay. so now i'm the devil.
bring it to their door.
So I work for Disneyland, and we are talking about striking very soon. So soon, in fact, that we've been hosting rallies just outside of the parks. Yesterday was the 69th birthday of Disneyland Anaheim... it was also a monumental rally.
I haven't seen anyone on tumblr talking about the impending strikes against Disney. Not even going through the Disney tags or searching tumblr for "Disneyland Strike."
Let's talk about why we're striking:
Cost of living in the immediate SoCal region is nearly 2x as much as we are getting paid.
Cast members that have worked for the company for long periods of time are still paid as mucha s new hires.
Disney has showed up to union negotiations with insulting offers, including at 25 cent raise. Most cast members make $19.90
Disney rarely schedules you. In some areas and departments, you are fighting with your fellow cast members for hours. I have heard of cast members who are only scheduled for 1 4-hour shift per week. Many of those cast members have upwards of an hour commute to and from work.
Disney Admin has told attractions castmembers [so: rides, rollercoasters, and anything fun you get to do and see at the parks] that we are losing them money, which is why they refuse to schedule us and pay us. In the words of my partner, who also works at the parks, Disney without attractions is an over glorified mall and a food court. Disney needs us, and they know it, but they do not respect us.
Disney has an unfair attendance policy. It can be very difficult to get a needed day off, even when it has been requested weeks or months in advance. When you do take a day off [with-out accrued sick or vacation time] it counts against you. You can have 3 a month, 6 in 90 days, 9 in 180 days, or 12 in a year. How do you accrue sick/vacation? Hours worked, which can be impossible with the scheduling practices mentioned above. (Most cast members trade shifts among themselves to get around this.)
Cast members feel unsafe and unsupported in the parks. Many cast members have felt threatened by entitled guests upset that they are following policy. Disney Leads and Managers have to say yes to these guests and make things happen, though. [Which only makes this behavior worse and more dangerous for cast members who are only doing their job.]
Cast members also report feeling threatened, or even being literally threatened, by management in the parks. Especially cast members who have a second job. Especially cast members who know their rights.
Further, cast members work in hazardous conditions with pay that does not reflect that. Many cast members report losses of hearing, sore throats, and severe back and shoulder pain. Cast members are also exposed to infectious diseases at a much higher rate.

This is the team Jason recognizes— the relentless, communicative, cooperative team that rightfully sits in first place in their league. This is the team he and Percy have led for the past several months. Although Beckendorf hasn’t come to any of their games, Jason likes to think this is the team their old captain would be proud of. As great as a captain Beckendorf had been, there’s no doubt that this season is better than their last. Jason knows this is a championship team.
There’s no reason for Chiron to worry about the team’s willingness to work together; the rule almost seems silly now. No romantic relationship has interfered with the team’s abilities before.
Everything goes smoothly until it doesn’t.

fucked up how cooking and baking from scratch is viewed as a luxury…..like baking a loaf of bread or whatever is seen as something that only people with money/time can do. I’m not sure why capitalism decided to sell us the idea that we can’t make our own damn food bc it’s a special expensive thing that’s exclusive to wealthy retirees but it’s stupid as hell and it makes me angry
