Grantaire had some pretty sexy fantasies before he began dating Enjolras 😏.....alas their lives are a bit more swamped with work than he imagined it'd be 😔
But at the end of the day, they still get to snork mimimi/honk shoo together ❤️
A quick little series of doodles for @lesmisshippingshowdown too 🙂↕️
Jean Valjean catches Marius falling from having been shot. He points at an escape route and tells the audience he'll go via the sewerage. (Les Misérables peking opera, 2006)
The fact that I cannot understand Chinese at all, and this was one of the few terminologies I could read (since Japanese uses the same characters) made me accidentally laugh out loud.
It was a jumpscare of comprehension.
I will say, this is obviously my first experiencing watching a Peking Opera, so I'm just not used to the style of writing yet. I really love it though!! I can't believe this artistic, fun, acrobatic way of theatre was hidden away from me 😭😭
Sketches from opposite ends of the Valvert spectrum; two dorks taking a walk, and Javert in the catacombs from @autumngracy‘s AROS
“Give to this dog son of a wolf a human face, and the result will be Javert.”
I think a lot about the folkloric story that Victor Hugo describes (or invents) in Les Mis, that uses dogs/wolves as a metaphor for that way that Inspector Javert betrays his own social class. It feels very fairytale-like, so here’s a Lotte-Reiniger style adaptation. Many thoughts, many emotions. I may animate this eventually. (And thanks to @valvertweek for the motivation!)
Matching icons for you and the inspector who's been chasing you for decades
can’t believe hugo's complaining about light pollution in 1823/62. good thing he missed the eiffel tower
the fact that you can’t see the stars is significant though because of its association with spiritual darkness, and particularly as it’s shop candles — literal splendid matter, to reference lm 2.1.18 — that are blocking the stars, and they’re only lit at the moment to catch people on their way to mass. people are being distracted and led astray from what matters: in 2.1.18, the ideals of the revolution; in this chapter, god/jesus, which christmas is supposed to be about. they’re even physically being led astray — the line of stalls goes from the church to the thénardiers’ inn
cosette is heartbreaking give that girl a REST and a HUG
