New Hellsing interview translated

For those not in the know, an official guidebook for Hellsing was released in Japan in 2012 after the release of the final OVA episode. In addition to artwork and character trivia, the guide compiles three of Hirano’s interviews (all very long and containing Hirano’s…..unique brand of humor), with the third and most recent one being Hirano’s last words regarding Hellsing.

While the first interview has been out for a while and can be read online, only recently has anyone bothered to dig up and translate the third, which contains the most real information, including:

Hirano’s favorite and least favorite character(s)

The reasoning behind Walter’s betrayal

Hirano’s thoughts on Section 13 and Millenium as villains

Hirano’s favorite and least favorite things to draw

A comment by Hirano regarding pairings, which I’ve taken the liberty of italicizing because I’m just that petty.

This rough translation was done by some fine folks on Hiranomoe forums, and I do not take credit for any of it.

HIRANO: Now then, it’s time for us to get to work digging through these germ-filled leftovers. …Fufufu. Interviewer: …Ah, so this is where you were, you scum. What a filthy ruin. I searched for you y'know, you piece of garbage. HIRANO: What’s with you guys? This is my house! This is my house! Get out! Interviewer: Aah, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? Don’t you remember our interview before? Weren’t you writing a manga called Hellsing back then? I’m gonna make a zine about it this time. HIRANO: Ah, ah you guys! You’re from that Pafu place…! [TN: Puff is the name of the magazine, which was cancelled in 2011.] Interviewer: Pafu isn’t here anymore. HIRANO: Get out! I don’t have anything to talk about with the media, so get out! Interviewer: Come on now, if we release this in a magazine we’ll pay you too, so you’ll at least be able to buy a can of alcohol, right? Let’s have an interview again. HIRANO: Shut up! You bunch of unmannered hooligans! Leave! Now that you don’t have the prestige of being with Pafu you aren’t scary to me at all! Interviewer: AH? You wanna bring it on? It seems you don’t learn even if brought to the brink of death twice now, you dimwit! HIRANO: Bring it on! C'mon now!
