Fanfic is a free hobby.

It's one of the last few things we can have as a society that's free. You can engage, for free. People give you things (art, stories, etc), for free.

Don't buy into the consummerism just because it's everywhere else.

You don't have to consume everything you interact with. You don't have to use things, just because they exist.

You're allowed (still, for now), to have things that are enjoyable for free.

Do you realise how insane the world is? We don't have many places where we can just be, for free anymore, but ao3 is. Did you notice we don't have ads in ao3? We don't have pop ups? Where ELSE do we not have that?

Where else can you just go and not have to wait for a commercial to be over or for ads to be on the sidelines?

I don't think the younger people understand, but the whole of internet used to be like this. YouTubers would do Youtube for free, just because. You couldn't monetise your internet presence before.

Ao3 is like a little preserved corner of the internet where the old internet used to be, and it's being attacked by people who do not understand that free things are allowed to exist without judgment.

Please don't ruin this for us.

I know not everyone does, but I love angry Remus. Specifically young angry Remus to old tired Remus. Remus Lupin has a lot of things to be angry about and every right to be. Because of who he is and they way world treats him because of it (e.i, werewolf, queer, scars, disabilities, etc). He gets older, his reflexes slow down, his bones ache, it's hard to breath, but he never stops being angry but the tiredness is overwhelming. Life is short and maybe he just wants to enjoy what he has after losing so much.

BTW i see these posts all the time like "ohhh i dont know what to comment on fics.." and every response is "keysmashes! or hearts!! anything works :3" and thats GREAT!! thats helpful!!

but: consider. if u genuinely like analyzing writing.. do u know ur just allowed to go through and quote your favorite parts and ramble abt what they mean to u and the author will LOSE IT WITH HYPE?

genuinely. i felt SO WEIRD the first time i did it.. but like. holy shit authors love it. its crack for authors. the first time i did it, it was on a fic that hadnt updated in half a year, give or take, and the author made 3 updates that month BECAUSE OF MY COMMENT.

LIKE. as an author every comment is INCREDIBLE!!! but also, dont feel like your comment has to be short or otherwise ur invasive or smth!! authors ADORE long comments more than ANYTHING.

the intimacy of sleeping together, but not in a sexual way. the intimacy of feeling the warmth of their body in a cool room. their hands hugging you tightly. the intimacy of synchronized breathing. sleepy half-kisses. feeling safe. feeling warm. waking up and realizing how much you love them. how precious this is. finding the happiness on the tip of your fingers, brushing their hair. closing your eyes again. pulling closer. falling asleep.

never really talked about it here but i took a sort of long break from writing lotf recently, but i’m finally back to writing it! been working on it on and off over the last week or two, and chapter four’s slowly coming along. it’s about halfway written i’d say? and i broke 20k total a few days ago

ALSO TODAYS MY LAST DAY OF FINALS!!! i have one exam and then i am FREEEEE!!!!!!

anyways all this to say that another update will be coming soon-ish, hopefully?! i always hesitate to give dates in case something changes but i’d like to say within the next two weeks. by the end of may at the very latest. (but this is not a guarantee)

With more and more Ao3 authors restricting their works to the archive (due to AI scraping), they're going to be losing guest interaction. And probably generally feeling down because. You know. AI is stealing their hard work.
