Daily fish fact #639

Sabertooth salmon!

Hullo I Wanted To Request A Sabertooth Salmon Mention ,, They’re Extinct But Theyre Criminally Underrated

These massive fish were no joke, as they could grow to be over two meters in length (6'7''~)! They had large sideways-facing tusks which were most likely used for defending their territory. Despite their formidable tusks, the sabertooth salmon are speculated to be planktivores, as their gill rakers were long and numerous!

how to find literally any post on a blog in seconds (on desktop)

there are so many posts about ~tumblr is so broken, you can’t find any post on your own blog, it’s impossible, bluhrblub~

I am here to tell you otherwise! it is in fact INCREDIBLY easy to find a post on a blog if you’re on desktop/browser and you know what you’re doing:

url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant. every single post, every single time. in chronological order starting with the most recent post. note: it will not find #croissants or that time you made the typo #croidnssants. for a tag with multiple words, it’s just /tagged/my-croissant and it will show you everything with the exact phrase #my croissant

url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant/chrono will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the exact phrase #croissant, but it will show them in reverse order with the oldest first

url.tumblr.com/search/croissant isn’t as perfect at finding everything, but it’s generally loads better than the search on mobile. it will find a good array of posts that have the word croissant in them somewhere. could be in the body of the post (op captioned it “look at my croissant”) or in the tags (#man I want a croissant). it won’t necessarily find EVERYTHING like /tagged/ does, but I find it’s still more reliable than search on mobile. you can sometimes even find posts by a specific user by searching their url. also, unlike whatever random assortment tumblr mobile pulls up, it will still show them in a more logically chronological order

url.tumblr.com/day/2020/11/05 will show you every post on the blog from november 5th, 2020, in case you’re taking a break from croissants to look for destiel election memes

url.tumblr.com/archive/ is search paradise. easily go to a particular month and see all posts as thumbnails! search by post type! search by tags but as thumbnails now

url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio will show you every audio post on your blog (you can also filter by other post types). sometimes a little imperfect if you’re looking for a video when the op embedded the video in a text post instead of posting as a video post, etc

url.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/croissant will show you EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant, but it will show you them in the archive thumbnail view divided by months. very useful if you’re looking for a specific picture of a croissant that was reblogged 6 months ago and want to be able to scan for it quickly

url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio/tagged/croissant will show you every audio post tagged with the specific phrase #croissant (you can also filter by photo or text instead, because I don’t know why you have audio posts tagged croissant)

the tag system on desktop tumblr is GENUINELY amazing for searching within a specific blog!

caveat: this assumes a person HAS a desktop theme (or “custom theme”) enabled. a “custom theme” is url.tumblr.com, as opposed to tumblr.com/url. I’ve heard you have to opt-into the former now, when it used to be the default, so not everyone HAS a custom theme where you can use all those neat url tricks.

image

if the person doesn’t have a “custom theme” enabled, you’re beholden to the search bar. still, I’ve found the search bar on tumblr.com/url is WAY more reliable than search on mobile. for starters, it tends to bring posts up in a sensible order, instead of dredging up random posts from 2013 before anything else

if you’re on mobile, I’m sorry. godspeed and good luck finding anything. (my one tip is that if you’re able to click ON a tag rather than go through the search bar, you’ll have better luck. if your mutual has recently reblogged a post tagged #croissant, you can click #croissant and it’ll bring up everything tagged #croissant just like /tagged/croissant. but if there’s no readily available tag to click on, you have to rely on the mobile search bar and its weird bizarre whims)

Swap AU doodles (some yammering below)

Saul (swap!Souler) throws around Kevin constantly but he likes to be thrown around its enrichment for him (Saul still hates the fact this sentient anti virus won't leave him alone and won't stop asking him questions about his life) also Kevin sometimes pleads to Saul playfully like poor little him didn't ask for sentience! And his creator abandoned him! (Kevin really doesn't care and quite enjoys his sentience and he is lying about the creator part (his creator is chill with him))

Uhh swap Zander and AwesomeG! Swap!Zander has hair now and AwesomG is doing their thing (perhaps they're named Starved?)

Vitriii! Vitriolic_Red but something is a bit different idk what though (The Envelopment) she's just a regular person who just likes humidity and grows in the grout of tiles and on shower curtains and crawls into the decay of walls and most importantly really likes to play Minecraft

And finally, in my head, swap!digital satan (her name is Lisa she made Kevin btw), Saul, and Collin (among others) live in the same apartment complex/area, and theres a dumb rumor going around about Collin being a ghost or whatever (he hates the attention at first but eventually has fun with it and messes with the humans speculating on his true nature) (he is just here to chill out though) (for some reason his minecraft world is a hotspot for random players to end up in unfortunately)

I am begging the media to stop making harmless bugs out to be terrifying monsters in their headlines. I’ve seen Joro spiders all over the news lately with these super scary-sounding headlines. Sometimes the truth is buried somewhere in the article, but how many people just read a headline and move on?

image

So let’s get a few things straight…

1. Parachuting or ballooning is a common method of dispersal used by countless species of spiders, primarily when they are spiderlings and very VERY tiny. They’re not flying, they’re sending out a little parachute of silk that gets caught in the wind. This is, among other things, a way to avoid competing with their siblings for resources. Adults don’t do it, so there will not be giant spiders flying through the sky and landing on your head.

2. Joro spiders are non-native, but so far scientists have no proof of detrimental effects to our native ecosystems. Given the scope of their spread so far, it’s likely they’ll become naturalized and be a new fixture in the US.

3. They aren’t “invading.” They were brought here in 2013 from their native habitat in Asia by human activity, and now they’re thriving because our climate is perfect for them.

4. Joro spiders are not dangerous. Bites may be painful, but their venom is not medically significant, meaning even if you were bitten (unlikely), you would most likely not need medical attention unless you developed an infection.

5. They can get rather big, but we have several native species of spider that are just as large.

6. Joro spiders are orbweavers and prefer weaving their large webs between trees or other vegetation to catch flying prey. They have no reason to come into your house, although they may make webs on or near your home.

Anyway Joro spiders are beautiful let’s admire one

a few reminders because i’m tired and angry

fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism

adult women aren’t inherently creepy for being in fandom and having hobbies apart from raising babies and doing taxes

the vast majority of people pushing back against the worrying trend of instigating harassment over fictional characters and relationships aren’t incest supporters or pedophiles, actually

liking a m/f ship doesn’t make someone a dirty heterosexual invading your space

preferring gay ships doesn’t make you ‘’woke’’ and good

no one owes you a disclaimer that they are a good person who recognizes that their favorite fictional villain’s actions are evil and that they don’t condone those actions irl

liking a fictional villain is in no way comparable to advocating abuse/murder/genocide/etc and you’re a fucking idiot if you believe that

just because a woman is attracted to a fictional villain doesn’t mean she’s promoting toxic relationships or going to end up in a toxic relationship. assuming women can’t tell fiction and reality apart stinks of internalized misogyny

some rando’s a/b/o fanfics have none of the level of influence that popular tv shows and movies spreading propaganda have

no one owes you a detailed description of their traumas and mental health problems

abusive relationships are not the same as enemies to lovers ships

y’all need to chill the fuck out over people, relationships, actions and events that don’t actually exist and learn how to enjoy and discuss them like normal people

fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism

feel free to add more
