how would the slug speedstinger wear a neck strap if they have no neck lol
Speed stingers playing a saxophone @bugsinpants @geohere
this is SUCH a good point. I've been meaning to skim through the show and make a proper timeline as to where every event happened in the span of the year, because its bananas. Maybe (probably) Eli is just as fustrated as we are that he hasn't actively been searching but hey, he fought blakk then found Junjie then had to learn slug fu then had to help defeat the emperor and aid the east and then RIGHT when they may have time they find Tad the Traumatized Child and they had to spend time helping him and finding him...and part of the reason why I wanna make the timeline is actually for the will happy birthday son scene. I wanna know how long after tad's fall that happened, because if it was a day it makes it more emotional for eli to know he's got family even after the betrayal, and if it was a while it means they HAVE lied low, probably scarred by the new kid they spent at least weeks helping out leaving them.
I just really want a canon moment where eli's like: "you know what? I'm calling up my allies, you deal w the small stuff. I'm taking a trip to the shadow clan and learning stuff." Or, like, commits his free time to it, making small trips around slugterra ("I'll visit that hideout under the falls this weekend", "maybe I can look thru the rubble in molemound for a few days", that type of thing). We're at a point in the narrative where he would do that, and BECAUSE of his search shit and plot happens, not the other way around. It would be a good way to progress this story, just like how the eastern cavern twist provided another slug-filled culture in the east and gave the Gang a new perspective on how energy and tech and legacy and heroism functioned.
Because I'll never forget how, when the emperor showed up, Junjie had fellow fighters, and even shadow clan. Meanwhile, he shanes have been blasted into slugterra hell, AND fought blakk...basically by their own, at least for the major battles. Their openess to tad, to me, is in part because they saw that in the east and went "oh, maybe allies, even if theyre not in the gang particularly, as actually pretty useful".
Long rant aside, that what I wished for eli and the gang; make allies, stabilize the region and have helpers, then take the extra time in the schedule to breathe, get therapy, and learn the will shane lore. Cause yeah, if the shane gang are the main emergency force in this world and them alone, they're never gonna have time to save will! Duh!
...I'm gonna be SO clear about this: this is NOT the fault of Eli, obviously. He's a kid and trying his best.
but, when Eli got to Slugterra, he COULD have made it his life's mission to find out what happened to his dad, or find all the secrets that supposedly died with him. He didn't. He took up being the Shane and left the past buried unless it smacked him in the face in some current situation. He never once looked for what his dad left him, didn't even go looking for Will's remaining allies. They all just found him, and he only went searching when he needed to - Redhook, the elementals, etc...
it could also be that Will left some things, as much as he could (tho he still should've told him stuff about his enemies), but Eli wasn't interested in unearthing it. He wanted to move on, make a path for himself and not focus on what happened. That could also influence why he never even looks for his dad - he wants to, but he's been in a "look to the future" mindset for so long it hurts to look back and realize all he's missed out on in being a Shane.
personally, I think he did take the right route. That would have driven him insane, and he knew that. There's something really refreshing about such a possibly vengeful character strictly choosing to be a force for good and stick to current bad guys instead. Just...remember. We got no will/Slugterra answers partially because Eli never truly looked for them. I think he was going to...but in the future, when the current fires are put out. Or after therapy, whichever came first.
WORTH EVERY PENNY
DJ Beso's mix of the og '86 Meet the Mets tune with Jose's hit OMG continues to be a hell of an earworm for me ❤️🔥 enjoy
@temperance-sunlight, I agree! Locke and loade were used way too much, but I can also see the advantage of shallow villains - to actually spend time on them would mean to take time away from the other parts of the episode.
as for twist and Dana - YES. Mario and the gentleman and stocker and many others, when not on screen, still feel alive, and it's a good feeling. Those 2, tho? There kids who are directly involved in Shane buisness and would not stop after Blakk fell - I would same the same for Maurice, too. Those three hurt the most, since they should have come back a little. There's MANG arguments to them trying to avoid the Shane's, tho - Dana laying low and being self-sufficient, and probs still sore from what happened to Tom, Maurice being an underground villain who doesn't like the spotlight, and twist suddenly needing to make a living w no blakk backing and being known as a bad guy, probably making him live day by day again...but I wish t where names were brought up more. I mean, twist and sans were both brought up once post-movies. But they could have easily intertwined their dealings in the chill scenes.
I kinda wish they could've been in rote at least, or slug fu showdown.
I kinda wish Dana was more included. A lot of cool characters just show up for a tiny amount of time and dip forever which is a shame. It’d be cool to see a side plot where she slowly unravels the secrets will refused to tell her dad by snooping on Eli or something
Dana
Twist
Mario
Vance
And like a bunch of other ppl I can't name rn
Are all individuals that should have been seen more.
Honestly yeah, getting to see Dana more would have been awesome, especially if she happened to run into the Gang while they were Secret hunting leading to fun shenanigans
Side plot regarding any of the side characters would have been amazing i wish they pulled a Storm Hawks, and by that I mean have an episode just decided to the Villains/side characters and what they get up too while the Heros are off doing who knows what.
But with such a large cast of characters, it's inevitable some get lost or underutilized, unfortunately.
Especially those who were created to just fill a serten role like Vance or Mario.
Not everyone can be a C.C. fitting whatever role the narrative demands.
SAME
But having a map would be so USEFUL for writing fics and analysing more of the culture of Slugterra, and I really think w enough time and rewatching one could make a decent map. Just...ugh, TIME. My head hurts too. So I just...avoid geography till I have the time to uncover it.
memes are fun and relatable and all that, but don't let them discourage you. all of that stuff that doesn't make it into the final product is part of how the final product gets made
Imagines the Slugs pop up in Gravity Falls?
I'm just imagining gravity falls having The Drop....yeah, that makes sense.
I think if they showed up without any talking slugterrans the slugs would just be seen as another creature/monster/anomally. Plus, if they stay in protoform, how would the town even know they can transform? they'de be kept secret well there, tho. They'de be a footnote in that towns history tbh. Out of all the places on the surface to know about the slugs, or even Slugterra, gravity falls is like best case scenario.
(btw I haven't watched it in like 7 years and barely remember it it's on my rewatch list - sorry if I'm forgetting stuff)
like actually? I feel like, because of the secret, the Shane Family would always be sure to have a big family; siblings, cousins, grandparents, the like. But they don't! Not that we know of, and if we don't know about them by now I don't think they would help Eli or Slugterra that much at this point.
could family decide to cut contact over their Slugterra journeys? Maybe, but that wouldn't explain how the family basically windled down to three.
...what would, is the 20th century. Up on the surface, there were plenty of surface wars (regardless of what country we think the Shanes lived in) that they would have automatically been drafted in. And being good marksman before the drafting age...they would be on the line of fire. And maybe be as heroic as they thought of themselves to be in Slugterra.
One uncle lost in 1916, a sibling lost in Vietnam; not to mention the Shane woman, who probably offered their services too.
like sometimes I wonder what complicated family plots happened for the Shane's to be so lacking in numbers, but then I remember that, you didn't need backstabbings to die in these wars . A lot of deadly things were happening the past century on the surface, especially to a family used to combat and would maybe feel obligated to help the surface out.
Sorry this is a gruesome and out of left field thought. I just think that the wars of the 20th century couldn't be avoided by them, and perhaps that contributed heavily as to why, in the shows time, Eli's got not much family left.
