A Ghost in The Lights

I sit in this room, and stare at the colorful lights before me.

The tree illuminates the shadows, and with them, it illuminates my memories. 

A little girl, getting the toy she wanted, turned a grown man not knowing what to ask for.

He sits in the shadows staring into the bright lights, the remnants of a bright young daughter.

She smiles and laughs, gives him a hug, happy to see him.

He simply looks at her, mesmerized.

“When did she leave? When did I arrive?”

Maybe he had been there the whole time, unknown, hidden in the dark.

But those shadows are illuminated this time ‘round. And I’m known to the world.

A Bitter FriEND

I stand on the bridge as snowflakes fall down to meet me.

The sun may shine, but I can’t feel it’s heat here in this place.

The ice creeps along the river below me, slowly making its approach.

I look out at the clumps of grey trees and crumpled flowers,

Not quite dead, but not quite lively.

The snow gathers on the edges of the bridge, trying to keep the ice at bay.

But still, the ice crawls up the bridge.

The clouds have hidden the sun away.

I shudder and hug myself, bracing for the cold.

The ice climbs.

I reach out.

A hand takes mine, and suddenly the bitter frost disappears.

I can’t meet the snowflakes anymore.

I can’t see the clouds, nor the sun.

The bridge has turned to a void beneath my feet.

As my new friend leads me away, I can’t feel warmth nor cold.

But at least the ice has gone.

A poem for my love

I feel as though my soul is tainted, covered in a dark shroud.

However, you say it’s radiant, a light in the darkness that is this world.

And suddenly, the shroud clears.

You hold my soul so gently in your hands, and it glows brilliantly.

You hold my soul with such love that it thrives, it lives.

You hold my soul, and suddenly everything is okay.

So it was never my soul that was radiant, but you who brought the radiance to the surface.

And you may think you are broken, and in a dark shroud yourself.

But I want to repay what you’ve done for me.

Both of us, holding my soul.

I split it in two, give you a beacon of light in the darkness.

And you smile.

And suddenly my soul is whole again.
