To those who have swept or have blown the leaves from the walk, have rinsed the dishes or dusted their screens, Hestia looks on you from beneath her veil. She smiles, then wraps a shawl made of sunlit October air around you.
To those who remain in bed, who are on the edge of crying, who have turned on the tv to drown out the world, Hestia sits on the edge of your bed, patting circles on your back. I know, my love, she says, I know, I know. It can be so hard. My sweet, it’s time to get up. I need you, she says. Let’s make this home a sanctuary. Light a candle. Make your hands to care about this place. Let out the work of love.

* Learn the arrangement of the Seven Planets (also called the Chaldean): Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon.
* If you have a Android powered smart phone, download the Planetary Times app to help you become more familiar with the planetary times as well as what each planet represents.
* Try to create the sigil during the matching planetary hour to increase its magical properties and power.
* Decide which planet best matches your sigil intention. Some examples for planetary associations and intentions are:
Saturn: Constrain or prevent someone from doing harm
Jupiter: Draw wealth and prosperity
Mars: Evoke strength and courage to face an intimidating situation
Sun: Improve health
Venus: Attract a lover, friendship, love
Mercury: Instill mental clarity and balance
Moon: Increase psychic ability
* Use a pen with the matching corresponding planetary colored ink:
Saturn: Black
Jupiter: Purple or Blue
Mars: Red
Sun: Gold
Venus: Green
Mercury: Grey (Pencil Color)
Moon: Silver
* Burn appropriate planetary incense while creating your sigil:
Saturn: Roots such as Costus or Mandrake (WARNING: Mandrake can be toxic)
Jupiter: Fruits and Spices such as Nutmeg, Cloves, Orange Peels
Mars: Woods such as Cypress, Balsam, Sulfur, Dragon’s Blood
Sun: Resinous Gums such as Mastic, Storax, Copal, or Amber
Venus: Flowers such as Roses or Saffron
Mercury: Rinds and Sweet Seeds such as Cinnamon or Cassia
Moon: Leaves such as Myrtle or Laurel
* Condense the intention/desire of your sigil into 1 or 2 words. *If creating a sigil to affect a particular person, write the person’s first and last name.
* Use the following conversion chart to match letters to numbers: 1:A, 2:B, 3:C, 4:D, 5:E, 6:F, 7:G, 8:H, 9:I, 10:J, 20:K, 30:L, 40:M, 50:N, 60:O, 70:P, 80:Q, 90:R 100:S, 200:T, 300:U, 400:V, 500:W, 600:X, 700:Y, 800:Z, 900:&
An example would be HEALTH>>> H=8, E=5, A=1, L=30, T= 200, H=8
* If you are using a number that is too high to fit into a designated square, divide the number by 10 or 100 until it can fit.
* Use the following planetary number squares to help create your sigil.
Sun: 4 9 2 3 5 7 8 1 6 Jupiter: 4 14 15 1 9 7 6 12 5 11 10 8 16 2 3 13
Mars: 11 24 7 20 3 4 12 25 8 16 17 5 13 21 9 10 18 1 14 22 23 6 19 2 15 Sun: 6 32 3 34 35 1 7 11 27 28 8 30 19 14 16 15 23 24 18 20 22 21 17 13 25 29 10 9 26 12 36 5 33 4 2 31
Venus: 22 47 16 41 10 35 4 5 23 48 17 42 11 29 30 6 24 49 18 36 12 13 31 7 25 43 19 37 38 14 32 1 26 44 20

Moon: 37 78 29 70 21 62 13 54 5 6 38 79 30 71 22 63 14 46 47 7 39 80 31 72 23 55 15 16 48 8 40 81 32 64 24 56 57 17 49 9 41 73 33 65 25 26 58 18 50 1 42 74 34 66 67 27 59 10 51 2 43 75 35 36 68 19 60 11 52 3 44 76 77 28 69 20 61 12 53 4 45
* When making a sigil, you can use a light table or piece of white cardboard to help you see and trace the design.
* Begin the sigil by denoting you first letter by making a small circle on the top sheet of paper over the first letter’s corresponding number. * Use straight lines to connect each successive letter/number until you’ve spelled out the entire word.
* You can draw either angles or curves when you change directions during the process.
* Signify repeating letters or numbers with a half circle.
* End each sigil with a small, anchoring square or transverse line on the last letter/number.
* You can add 2 sequential letters’ numbers together to obtain a third number. Example: In H E A L T H. A= 1 + L= 30 equals 31. The same concept can be applied to reduced numbers as well. T= 200= 20 plus H= 8 equals 28.
* One your sigil is created, you can play around with this shape and position to heighten its power and symbolism.
* When you finally get a sigil looking the way you intended, you can close the sigil with 2 concentric circles to turn it into a magical seal.

Guys. I just realized that Lilo is putting a curse on her friends. But like, an actual curse. Vinegar is commonly used in curses, and pickles have vinegar. And then she has little figures of her “friends”, drawn with expressions. Then putting them in the pickle jar, and shaking it. Another sign of a curse. I don’t know why I just noticed this now, but lilo is a witch.
I bet she’s a sea witch.

We’ve all been there. You want to do something, you want to write something, you want to make something… But you can’t. You can’t feel it. You can’t see it. You can’t hear it. You just feel disconnected and anxious. I get a lot of asks from people who ask how to reconnect with gods, spirits, and their craft. They claim things have gone cold, gone quiet, gone silent. So here is a small list of my own suggestions to help with feeling this way.
Now a lot of practices aren’t nature based, so I’m going to word this a bit differently than I would if it applied solely to me.
Get out of your everyday space. The space you sleep, you eat, you work. Go for a hike, go see a move, go to a cafe, go to a library, go down the road and just listen to the sounds around you. We isolate ourselves through routine and sometimes we put up walls without realizing it. Look at details, explore, investigate, question. Remember you are more than just a 9-5 job. Remember you are more than just the book you read on warding magic or the overwhelming schoolwork that has been draining your inspiration.
Look to what inspires you. Movies, artwork, other practices or crafts and allow yourself time to look through those things. Do not hold yourself to them, or compare yourself to them but rather think about what inspires you about them. What aspects do you admire? Can you incorporate those into your own practices? Can you change them to suit your own style? What can you add to make them your own, and in doing so make them something more to you?
Shuffle a deck of cards and just do a reading. Flip through a book and just read a page. Listen to a song or a playlist and skip around. Find small elements that you can use to build something bigger. Allow yourself space to write, to draw, to record these things however you can. They don’t need to be organized and they don’t need to be “proper” unless of course you’re into that. Just get it down for later when you can look it over and make sense of it all (if there is sense to make).
The best way to get over a block is to just keep going. After you’ve gone out and regrouped yourself just take another crack at it. Redo shrines or altars. Reorganize bookshelves and chests of materials. Check dates of herbs and cleanse crystals. Water and cull your plants. Now just do it. Don’t need anything yourself? Look to the many people in this world who need a hand. Do a spell for those who are hungry, those who are scared, those who are hurting. Or likewise do a spell against those who are greedy, those who are suffocating and killing, those who are hindering and disrupting. Do a spell for your own land, your own home, your friends and family members (some people will warn against doing magic without permission but I’ll leave that choice to you). Do a spell for yourself. Clean yourself. Inspire yourself. Harness passion and dedication. Bathe in it. Sing to your gods or your spirits or if you’ve none sing to the spirits who have passed. Turn up the music and dance. Dance for those fighting for clean water, for those fighting for their own land, for those fighting to put food on the table, for those who feel broken and wronged and desperate. It doesn’t have to be any one person or any specific people. It is still valid and is still worth doing.
Do what you enjoy. At the end of the day why pursue something if you aren’t enjoying it?
I mean this in a light sense. A lot of people chose this path for other reasons and many have made vows and promises but ultimately why stay if you aren’t enjoying any aspect of this? A duty? A responsibility? Maybe. But for those of us who don’t have those don’t feel restricted and restrained.
Do what you love.
If you love making wards. Make them.
Already have enough? Make some for other people. Make some for the forest. The library. Local soup kitchens.
Like writing spells? Share them. Write as many as you like. Like constructing rituals? Leaving offerings? Writing poems? Simply being around herbs and crystals and bones? Do that. Surround yourself.
There doesn’t always have to be a reason. Or be a need. You can just do. Don’t let your mind overthink something that is in essence just an action.
For me, witchcraft is an impulse and is sporadic. I do it when I feel I should. And I have found you do not need a reason to do it. I hope you can shake those cobwebs from your head and pursue what you enjoy.
*(Disclaimer) Some people may feel their own craft is sacred or very strict and serious. This post is very obviously not directed towards your own particular situation. Please do not apply this post to your own craft if you don’t think it is applicable. This is a personal post of a public format being shared with the sole intention of helping those in similar situations. Curseshamers are tiresome and boring. I’ll spare everyone else the trouble, “Not everyone follows the ‘rules’ and ‘laws’ you do so don’t apply them to other people”. Lastly permission and it’s place in magic is something argued about. This isn’t the post to do that arguing on. If you want to discuss it get your soapbox out and stand on it on your own blog.
A conversation I had with an atheist friend:
Them: “So, you believe in a mighty sky wizard? You?”
Me: “No.”
Them: “Oh, good. I-”
Me: “I believe in a trickster sea wizard, a poetic blacksmith goddess, a trio of bloodied, prophetesses and a highly skilled, porridge-loving, well endowed god.”
Them: “…alright then.”
Me: “They say hi.”
