Previous Chapter: Prologue

Unlocking and opening the bathroom door sent a tidal wave of emotions through you. Fear, panic, anxiety, nausea, emptiness — the list could go on. Emotions you’re all too familiar with.

Your skin broke out into goosebumps as you stepped into the hallway. You faintly felt your bruises throbbing painfully. Your stomach knotted up and you felt like vomiting. You have to force yourself to keep the contents of your stomach down.

Your hands are trembling so violently you have to clasp them in front of you to make them stop.

As you make your way down the hall, you hesitate for a moment. You can hear the TV blasting from the living room. You feel your heart begin to beat faster, hammering painfully against your ribs. The only way to the kitchen is through the living room. You have to keep moving, and you have to stay calm. The longer you keep him waiting, the angrier he’ll get. So you keep walking, and you lower your gaze the closer you get to the living room. Once you reach the entrance, you really feel like you’re about to vomit.

Ben is sitting in his recliner, a beer in one hand as he watches the television. You don’t know what he’s watching, nor do you care. He keeps his gaze on the show, but his expression is stony.

You make your way around the living room, hoping to put as much distance between you and your boyfriend as possible. When he calls your name however, you freeze. You’re so close to the kitchen, and you start shaking. What is he going to do?

“Y/N, can you come here?” Ben’s voice is calm, but you know better.

“Is something wrong?” you ask, choking on your words.

“I just want to talk.”

Turning around, you slowly walk over to Ben, still sitting comfortably in his recliner. Once you’re close enough, Ben mutes the TV and looks at you. He’s studying you, and it makes you shift anxiously. His expression is still stony. Taking another swig of his beer, Ben leans forward and places his elbows on his knees, turning away from you.

“You know I love you, right?” he asks. He still won’t look at you. He places his beer down, using his other hand to run it through his hair.

“Yes,” you respond, swallowing thickly. You’re trying to keep a steady, calm tone. “And I love you.”

Standing up, Ben walks over to you, stopping only inches in front of you. He’s scrutinizing you. He lifts his hand, gently brushing his fingers against your bruised cheek. You flinch. His hand lowers, lingering at the section where you shoulder and neck meet. You don’t move, even though every fiber of your being screamed at you to run, to do something. Ben’s hand firmly grips the back of your neck, forcing you to look up at him. Your muscles unconsciously stiffen, and a wince comes across your features. You can already feel the headache coming, due to how tight his grip is.

“I only want what’s best for you,” he states, a growl seeping into his words, “and I feel like you don’t appreciate that.”

He tightens his hold on you, his fingers digging into your skin. You let out a pained gasp, your knees beginning to buckle. Your hands grip his arm, trying to gain some stability and hoping against all hope he’d let you go.

“I do, Ben,” you sputter, tears forming in your eyes. His grip tightens just a fraction and you let out a pained whimper, your grip on his arm tightening. “I-I promise I appreciate what you do for me, baby. I love you. I love you so, so much. I-I really do, but... Please. Y-You’re hurting me.”

A look sweeps across Ben’s face — satisfaction. Tilting your face up just a little more, he slams his lips onto yours. The kiss is rough and sloppy, making your skin crawl, disgust forms in the pit of your stomach. When Ben pulls away, breathless and somewhat content, he lets you go and you can’t help but scurry away from him.

“I’m going to take a shower,” he says. “I expect the whole kitchen to be clean once I’m out.”

__________________________________________

It wasn’t always like this. You’d been happy with Ben, once upon a time. You remember when he made you smile so much your face hurt. You cherished the memories of when he made your heart flutter. You’d been so sure Ben was The One™, you failed to notice the red flags. Everyone else saw it. They all warned you, friends and family alike. You refused to listen. You chose your boyfriend over your loved ones. He understood you, right? He knows what’s best. He loves you and wants to make you happy and...

Your friends have all but abandoned you. You haven’t seen your family in almost five years. You’re alone, completely isolated. You long for companionship outside of your relationship. You’re desperate for it. You long for some kind of freedom.

Throwing out the used, dirtied paper towel, you let out a long sigh. Ben’s not perfect, you know that. He has his issues, everybody does. You sure as hell do. But as you look around at the kitchen, you see the food splattered on the walls and floor, and the broken dishes scattered on the floor. Maybe Ben has more issues than you care to admit.

Grabbing another paper towel, you wet it in the sink and start wiping the food off the wall. It’s been caked on there for a couple of hours now, so it’ll probably leave a nasty stain.

The landlord’s gonna lose his shit when he sees this, you think. How can I possibly explain my way out of this?

The evening started good enough. You made this nice, big dinner, a surprise for Ben when he comes home from work. His favorite. It took you forever to prep, but you finished just as he came home. He’d been pleased, happy to come home to a nicely cooked meal. Until halfway through dinner and you spilled the big news. You’d gotten a new job. At Marvel. As the newest make up artist. You haven’t worked for a bit (a few years) as per Ben’s request. He wanted to be the main provider, the “money maker,” the “breadwinner” — whatever you want to call it. He wanted the financial control.

The news of your job didn’t go well, obviously. Ben started screaming, insulting you and accusing you of anything and everything. You tried reasoning with him, then he threw his plate. He was aiming for you, but he missed. The plate shattered against the wall, and in your surprise Ben grabbed you by the wrist and hit you across the face. He screamed at you some more, drowning out your cries.

“You think you’re better than me now?! Huh?! Look at you, you’re pathetic! Useless! They’ll throw you out and you know what? You’ll deserve it.”

Those words stung. Maybe he’s right, maybe you’re not as good as you think you are. But why would Marvel hire you if you’re not good? But...

You shake your head, shoving the thoughts out of your head. You have to focus on finishing the kitchen before Ben’s finished his shower. You want the night to end as normally as possible.

“More Than Friends”

Part 2 of “Friends.....Maybe?”

Summary: Bucky finally mans up and confesses everything and has to ask for forgiveness.

Warning: None

A/N: I finally decided to write the second part of this. And now I’m going to write another chapter of “Unexpected Gifts”

“More Than Friends”

“I messed up big time.”

After putting you to bed and texting Steve, Bucky goes to the kitchen and cleans up everything. He puts all the food away. Of course, he can’t help but taste it while he does. Once he taste it, it only causes him to hate himself more.

“God, I’m such an idiot.” He says to himself as he puts a lid on the container.

He puts the dishes in the dishwasher then heads to his room. He gets to his room and his phone chimes with a notification. It was a message from Steve.

Steve honestly doesn’t want to know what Bucky means by his text, but he has a gut feeling it has something to do with Y/N. He shakes his head and types a response. He presses send then puts his phone away.

-What did you do?

Bucky goes on to explain what happened tonight and waits for Steve to answer. Steve never answers.

Over the next two days, Bucky doesn’t see you and he doesn’t try to look for you because he knows you don’t want to see him. What he doesn’t know is that you haven’t moved from the bed since he put you there.

The team gets back in the evening of the second day. Bucky is in the hanger to see everyone. Steve steps off the quinjet with an unreadable expression. Nat and Wanda are next. They both step off and glare at Bucky.

“Barnes, I swear if what you did is not undoable then so help me god.” Natasha’s words aren’t laced with venom.

Bucky can’t help but duck his head because he knows it’s the truth.

Nat and Wanda go inside the compound to find you. They find you exactly where Bucky left you two days ago.

You’re curled up in the bed with your back to the door. You hear the door open, thinking it’s Bucky trying to check on you, you throw a pillow towards the doorway.

“Hey, we haven’t done anything.” Wanda says as she walks into the room and joins you on the bed.

Under your eyes there is old mascara, where Bucky didn’t quite wipe it off enough. Your skin is pale and your eyes are bloodshot and puffy.

“Oh, love.” Wanda reaches over and pulls you into her.

You start to break down again. All the feelings of hurt, rejection, and so much more, all come crashing down on you.

The last two days, you just laid in your bed staring at the ceiling. You couldn’t cry or make yourself get up, you were numb.

Now, you were feeling everything. Nat joins you both in the bed.

“How about you go take a shower and get cleaned up then we will have a girl’s night? We can watch movies or do whatever you want.” Nat says looking over at you.

You turn your head towards her and nod.

“Ok then, go shower. Because not to hurt your feelings but you have a funk going on.” Nat and Wanda laugh

You can’t help but laugh with them. Nat and Wanda get up so you can get out of the bed. You slowly get up, your muscles protesting from a lack of use.

“Take as long as you need.” They smile.

You walk into the bathroom and shut the door. You look at yourself in the mirror for the first time since that night. You’re still in the dress you bought, but your earrings and necklace are missing and your makeup is half wiped off.

You know you didn’t do any of it, so you knew it had to have been Bucky. Your heart flutters just slightly at the thought of him being so kind to do those things, but it’s quickly fades and is replaced with heartbreak.

You aren’t too sure why you are heartbroken, it’s not like he knew your feelings or reciprocated them. You just wanted to be a friend to him, even if that’s all it was. Deep down, you knew you loved him, so if just being his friend was all you had, then that would be enough. You just never got the chance to even be his friend.

You turn away from the mirror and begin to strip. You through the dress into the small trash can in your bathroom. You don’t want it as a reminder of what happened.

You turn the shower on and let it warm up. In no time, the bathroom is covered with steam. You step into the steaming water and sigh in relief. Your body relaxes and relishes in the heat from the water.

Once Wanda and Natasha hear the water cut on, they get to work. They strip your bed of the covers and sheets you’ve been laying in for the past two days. Wanda puts on the fresh sheets and lights a few candles.

Natasha sends the old sheets to the laundry and starts to gather food. She orders your favorite sushi, she grabs ice cream, chocolate, and a bottle of wine or two. Natasha comes back to your room in a much better state than when she first arrived.

She puts all the food on your desk, and they wait for you to finish in the shower.

After what feels like hours in the shower, you turn the water off. You feel more human now that you’ve showered. You dry off and put on a big tshirt and pajama shorts. You towel dry your hair then exit the bathroom.

Your eyes land on the desk full of food and your stomach audibly growls. You all three laugh at the noise.

Wanda uses her power to bring the sushi over to you. You laugh a little more then climb into the bed. Wanda and Natasha sit on both sides of you. Nat turns on your favorite Disney movie, and you all dig in to the sushi.

Wanda brings over the bottle of wine. All three of you pass it around, but you seem to drink the most of it. By the end of the movie, you were more tipsy than Wanda and Natasha.

“Feel better?” Wanda asks.

You sigh and lay back. Tears start to well up in your eyes.

“To be honest.” You start. “Not really. I love you two, but I still feel like my heart has been ripped out.” Tears slip down your cheeks.

“It’s gonna be ok.” Nat says softly.

“Just give it some time.” Wanda rubs your arm.

“How am I supposed to get over him if he’s always around? I see him everyday.” You cry more. “Him and his beautiful blue eyes, his hair, and his hot body.” You sigh and cover your face with a pillow.

“I hate myself!” You groan into the pillow. “I didn’t want to fall in love with, but I did. I let him and his stupid metal arm worm his way into my heart.”

Natasha and Wanda share a look and have to keep from laughing at your alcohol filled words.

“And the thing is, I love him so much, if he apologized I would forgive him.” You move the pillow and look up at the pair of redheads. “You two probably think I’m crazy.”

“No, Y/N, you’re not crazy.” Wanda says. “I truly believe you can’t choose who you fall in love with. It just happens.”

“Is there any more wine or maybe something stronger?” You ask.

“I think I can finds us something.” Natasha gets up and goes to the kitchen.

Sam, Steve, and Bucky are all in the common room. Steve and Sam letting Bucky have it. Even if Bucky couldn’t see how you felt about him, everyone else could. That’s why everyone always told her to keep trying with him, hoping maybe one day he would finally give in.

“Guys, I get it! I know I was a terrible person to her.” Bucky sighs and lays his head back against the couch.

“Do you Barnes?” Natasha asks as she walks out of the kitchen with a bottle of vodka. “Because if you do, you better start finding a way to make it up to her. She is so in love with you that she would settle for just being your friend if you didn’t feel the same, but she would never tell you that.”

Bucky just stares at Natasha in complete shock. You were in love with him? Why? All the things he’d done in his past and the ways he treated you, how could you love him?

Nat just shakes her head before turning and going back to your room.

Bucky looks back at Steve and Sam. “What should I do?”

The guys start to come up with a plan to help Bucky make it up to you.

When Natasha walks back into your room, she finds you asleep on Wanda’s shoulder.

“What took you so long?” Wanda questions the Russian.

“I had to talk some sense into Barnes’ thick skull.” She says.

Wanda gets up from the bed, careful not to wake you. They gather up the trash from your girl’s night and quietly leave you to sleep.

They join the guys in the common room. The guys are still trying to come up with a plan.

“Maybe, I should just go talk to her.” Bucky says. “If I just tell her everything, maybe I cam fix this. Then if that doesn’t work, I don’t know.” Bucky stands up from the couch.

“She’s asleep.” Wanda stops him.

“Then I will talk to her first thing in the morning.” He sighs. Bucky decided to turn in for the night.

He walks to his room, feeling like total crap. Bucky doesn’t even want to imagine what you feel like.

Bucky has never had love. He was a ladies man in the 40s and there was definitely no love with Hydra. It was all foreign to him. The feeling he gets in his stomach when you do something for him, the affect your smile has on him, and so many other things, yet, he is a total jerk to you about everything.

Bucky didn’t want to love you because he thought he was too broken. That he was beyond repair, but he couldn’t stop himself, so he thought if he made you hate him then it would be easier on himself.

Bucky gets into his room and falls face first onto the bed. He groans into the mattress then rolls over. “F.R.I.D.A.Y. can you let me know when Agent Y/L/N is awake?”

“Of course, Sargent Barnes.” The AI responds.

Bucky gets up and gets ready for bed. He takes a shower then puts on only his boxers for bed. He settles in and forces himself to fall asleep.

It’s well after midnight when F.R.I.D.A.Y’s voice is heard in Bucky’s room. He is startled awake by her voice.

“Sargent Barnes, Agent Y/L/N is awake and in the kitchen.” She says.

“What time is it?” Bucky asks the AI.

“2:36 a.m.” She answers.

He groans as he rolls out of bed. He knows you probably don’t want to talk, but he has to. He has to get everything off his chest, and hopes you forgive him.

He is about to leave his room when he remembers he is only wearing his boxers. He quickly rushes to slip on some sweat pants and a tshirt.

He leaves his room and heads for the kitchen. He finds you searching through the medicine cabinet in the dark.

“Crap!” You whisper yell as you knock over a few pill bottles. The team kept a cabinet filled with over the counter meds for normal everyday problems.

“Maybe if you turn on the lights, you can find what you’re looking for.” Bucky reaches to turn on the lights.

“Do not turn on the lights!” You pear around the cabinet door. You knew it was Bucky by his voice.

“Why? Because you don’t want to look at me or another problem?” Bucky questions as he walks over to you.

“Both if you really want an answer, not that you deserve one.” You words are dripping with venom.

“You are totally right, I don’t.” He says softly.

You continue you search for the Advil not giving him any attention. He reaches over you and pull the bottle from one shelf above where you looking. Bucky hands you the bottle then turns to grab a water from the fridge. He hands you the bottle and watches as you take the pills.

“Can we talk?” Bucky asks.

You don’t want to say yes, but you also want to ask him why. “Sure.”

“Can I turn the lights on so we can talk?” He looks at you.

“Why do we need the lights?” You groan.

“Because I want to be able to see you clearly while we talk.” He flips the light switch. Bucky watches as you squeeze your eyes shut and grimace. After a few seconds, you open you eyes and let them adjust.

You look at him and your expression softens involuntarily. You haven’t seen him in almost four days.

“Y/N, let me just start with I’m sorry.” Bucky says. You scoff. “I don’t think I will ever be able to say that enough to make up for what all I’ve put you through.” He looks down at the ground. “I was a jerk to you because I was scared of my feelings.” He looks up at you and steps a little closer. “The first day I walked in here, I was drawn to you. But, I thought I was too broken to love anyone, so I pushed you away. I tried to make you hate me.” Bucky explains. You listen to him intently, not wanting to miss a word.

“And I will never forgive myself for the other night. I went out to meet with my therapist and to come with a plan to tell you how I really feel.” Bucky reaches out to take your hand.

You want to pull away, but his hand wraps around yours, and it feels right.

“I love you, Y/N.” Your mouth falls open at his words, utterly shocked. “I didn’t realize it until the other night when I carried you out of the dining room, that all the feelings I have when you are around are because I love you.”

He said it again, and you feel like you want to cry. “Bucky-” You try to find the words but you can’t.

“I know you right now you probably can’t forgive me for everything that I did, but maybe one day you can? Can we start over? Maybe this time we can be friends?” He looks at you with eyes filled with hope.

“Bucky, I think I’ve loved you since you got here, and even after everything you did I still love you. I don’t think I will ever stop.” You admit to him. “I can forgive you because I love you, but if you really mean it, that you love me. You have to promise me that you will never hurt me like that again.” You look up at him as tears slip down your cheeks.

He pulls you into him and places his hands on your cheeks to wipe away the tears. “I promise, doll, I will never hurt you again.”

Bucky leans down, his lips just inches away from yours. You lean up and close the small gap. Your lips meet and if sparks could fly they would be flying. The kiss is slow and gentle.

Bucky pulls away smiling. He looks down at you as a smile crosses your lips.

“I love you, Y/N.” Bucky whisper before pecking your lips again.

“I love you too, Bucky.”

It can be anything…a fanfic, a headcanon, a personal fantasy, an original story, smut, whatever. Just reblog if you think up some kind of fiction to yourself to help you fall asleep.

“What?” You looked at your mom in utter shock. Your mother dropped a bomb on you, well at least that’s what it felt like.

“I know, it’s a shock, and with your career you don’t need a baby.” Your mom said. You looked down at your niece as she cooed in your arms. She didn’t deserve any of what was happening.

“No, I-“ You stopped. “I will take her. I know you and dad are capable, but I think it would be better for everyone if I took her.”

“Honey, are you sure? Your career is taking off and you have such odd hours.” Your mother was just wanting to make sure you knew you had options.

“I’m sure.” You said. “If that’s what she wanted then that’s what I will do.” You kissed your niece on her chubby cheeks and she giggled.

Your mom nodded. “Alright hun.” She squeezed your hand again.

You ate breakfast, and felt like your haze was getting thicker. Most of the day was spent sitting around and talking. Your parents went and made arrangements for your sister’s funeral.

You texted Chris throughout the day, but you never told him about your niece. As the day progressed, you needed to tell someone. Finally, you messaged Chris and asked if you could call him. He, of course, said yes.

You tapped the phone icon under his name and it began ringing. You were sitting on the back patio as Olivia napped in her swing.

“Hey Y/N! How are you doing?” He asked.

“Umm, well I was doing better until my mom informed me of something.” You told Chris.

“What was the news? I’m guessing it was something big.” Chris asked, genuinely wanting to know what was bothering you.

“My sister has appointed me to become the legal guardian of my niece. She never told me she was doing that.” You admitted to Chris. “She’s two months old.”

“Oh.” Chris was unsure of what to say.

“I know I just unloaded that on you, but I needed to tell someone. And you were the only person who knows what’s going on.” You sighed.

“Well, umm-” Chris stuttered. You could tell Chris was struggling. “I’ll help you figure things out.”

“Chris, you don’t have to do that. I also wouldn’t even know where to start.” You told him.

“Y/N, you are going to need help. Let me help you.” Chris said.

You sighed. “Alright, alright. I will accept your help.”

“Good because you were going to get it any way.”

Your niece began to cry. You stuck the phone between your shoulder and your ear and went to pick her up. “Shh, it’s ok, it’s ok. Aunt Sissy is here.” You sat down in your chair.

“Aunt Sissy?” Chris questioned. You forgot he could hear you.

“Yes, when my sister and I were little kids she couldn’t say my name, so she called me sissy. So, we figured why not be Aunt sissy.” You explained to him.

“I like it.” He said. “I’m just plain ole Uncle Chris.” He laughed.

“There’s nothing wrong with that.” You told him.

You and Chris talked for a few more minutes then you ended the call. Your parents came home after a while. You and your niece were both asleep on the couch.

The next few days were a blur. You attended the funeral of your sister and finalized documents to become the legal guardian of your niece.

It had been a week. You knew you had to get back to L.A. and back to work. It was Friday morning and you were able to book a flight back to L.A. for the next morning, but this time you had to mark that you were flying with a baby. You were slightly dreading the flight home. Five hours on a plane with a two month old, that was definitely uncharted waters for you.

That night, you packed your suitcase and Olivia’s things. You told your parents to keep everything your sister had bought at there house. You would just have to buy new things after you were back in L.A.

That night, you couldn’t sleep. Your mind just wouldn’t shut down. Every scenario, good and bad, were going through your head. You checked the clock and it was almost 3 a.m. You groaned and just stared at the ceiling. You weren’t sure when, but eventually you fell asleep.

7 a.m. rolled around much quicker than you wanted it too. You groaned as you turned your alarm off. You got up, got dressed, and finished off both yours and your nieces packing.

You woke Olivia up, fed her, and got her dressed for the flight. Your nerves were still on end wondering how the flight was going to go. Your dad helped bring your things to the car as you loaded everything.

“Are you going to be ok?” Your dad asked.

“I think I will be fine.” You told him. “I have a friend who is already offering to help me.”

He nodded as he closed the back of the car. You both walked inside to get Olivia.

Your parents drove you to the airport. They kissed Olivia goodbye then you.

“Call us, no matter what time, if you need anything.” Your mom said. You nodded and hugged her. You were grateful that your sister had purchased one of the infant carriers that you wear, so your hands were free. It was an odd feeling, walking around with a baby. People looked at you when normally no one would look your way.

You got your boarding pass and headed to your gate. After grabbing a coffee and a muffin, you sat down at your gate. You audibly sighed when you sat down. You looked down at Olivia, she was fast asleep. You ate your muffin and drank your coffee before your boarded your flight.

While you were waiting at the gate, your phone rang. You looked down and it was Chris. You slide over on the screen to answer and put the phone to your ear.

“Hello?” You asnwered.

“Good morning Y/N! What are you up too?” Chris asked.

“I’m at the airport waiting on my flight.” You said. “Chris isn’t it like 6 a.m. in L.A.?” You questioned.

He glanced at his alarm clock. “Oh yeah, it is. I just woke up and I thought since we didn’t talk much yesterday, I’d give you a call.”

You smiled. “Why are you up at 6 on a Saturday? I’d be sleeping until noon.” You laughed softly.

“I don’t even know why myself.” He laughed. “I went to bed pretty early last night, so maybe that’s why.”

“Well, I was the opposite. I didn’t go to sleep until 3 then I woke up at 7 and was at the airport by 9.”

“Wow! You made it to the airport in an that amount of time with a baby? That’s impressive.” Chris commended you.

“Yeah, I guess I did. It wasn’t that bad. I got up, got dressed, dressed Olivia and my dad drove us to the airport. It’s a 45 minute drive from my parents house to the airport.” You told Chris.

“How is Olivia doing?” He asked. You smiled to yourself. Most people probably wouldn’t ask.

“She’s doing well, I think. I can ask, but I don’t know if I would get a response.” You laughed softly as did Chris. “I’m worried about the time change though. For an adult, you just take a nap and all will be fine. I don’t know how it affects a baby.” You admitted to Chris.

Over the week, you realized you felt something towards him. You didn’t want to admit to yourself what that was, but you would admit it was something.

“I don’t really know.” He said with a sigh.

“Chris, I’m worried. I don’t know anything about babies. I know they are cute and you have to change their diapers, but that’s it!” You said to him.

“Well, my sisters have a few kids and I know a little bit about babies. I will be glad to help you out.” Chris assured you.

“Thank you.” You smiled. Your conversation continued for another twenty minutes. You talked about work and how you were doing.

Your flight was being announced so you had to say goodbye. “I’ll be back in L.A. around lunch.” You told Chris before ending the call.

You grabbed your backpack and stood. It was different now that you had Olivia with you. People were more careful around you, they seemed to take notice of your prescense.

Your parents paid for your flight home and they booked using Delta so your seat was classified as Comfort plus. You had a bit more room than a normal seat, which was nice considering you were traveling with a baby. You got comfortable and removed the carrier, it was kind of a relief.

The flight attendants were super helpful and even offered you some tips after you admitted you had never flown with a baby. Right as the flight began to take off, Olivia began crying.

You started panicking. You knew it was probably the pressure in her ears from the takeoff because you felt it in your own ears. You reached into the diaper bag and grabbed a bottle.

You clicked the button on the bottle to drop the powder into the water. You shook the bottle then held it for Olivia. She immediately calmed down and started eating. You sighed in relief. After her bottle, you burped her and she fell asleep almost instantly.

The rest of the flight was calm. You changed her diaper, fed her again, and she slept. Finally, you landed in L.A.

You made your way into the airport to grab your luggage and Olivia’s car seat. Once you had everything, you made it to your car. You loaded Olivia’s car seat then her, then your luggage.

You finally got into your car and took a deep breath. “We made it Livie.” You grabbed your phone and texted Chris that you had landed and were headed home.

Thirty minutes later, you were pulling into your apartment. You somehow manage to get everything into your apartment in one trip. You took Olivia out of her car seat and she stretched and yawn. “Girly, you must like to sleep.” You laughed as you laid her down the couch cushion beside you.

You checked your phone and saw a message from Chris.

Chris- “Good. If you don’t mind, I wanted to stop by later. Only if it’s ok with you.”

You- “Of course! I would really like that.”

Olivia started cooing and gurgling. “What are you saying Livie? Are you excited to meet Chris?” You laughed. She continued to gurgle.

Chris- “I’ll be there in about an hour.”

You- “Alrighty! See you soon!”

As you were waiting on Chris, you started smelling something, and you knew exactly where it was coming from. You look over at Olivia. She had this grin on her face looking back at you.

“You are something else.” You laughed and went to grab the diaper bag. You laid the changing mat down on the floor then Olivia. You unbuttoned the onesie and started holding your breath. There was a knock at the door right as you undid the diaper.

You knew it had to be Chris. “Come in!” You called out. The door opened and Chris smiled at you.

“Am I interrupting something?” He laughed.

You shook your head and laughed. “No, you’re not interrupting.” You finished changing Olivia’s diaper without any sort of disaster. So, you patted yourself on the back for that.

You picked her up off the floor and disposed of the diaper. You went back to the living room where Chris was standing.

“Chris, I’d like you to meet Olivia.” You said smiling as you held her. “I call her Livie.” Chris smile down at her.

“May I?” He reached for her.

“Of course!” You gently passed her to Chris.

“Hello Olivia!” He cooed at the baby as she giggled.

You smiled at him and sat down. As you watched him hold Olivia, your buried feelings started to surface. You looked at his arms and how much smaller Olivia seemed in them.

She gurgled and cooed as she looked Chris. “She must like you.” You teased him.

“You think?” He raised his eyebrow and smiled at you. “She’s beautiful like her aunt.”

You blushed. “I bet her mom was beautiful too.” Chris said sitting down on the couch.

“She was.”

He looked at you then down at Olivia who was yawning. “I think someone is sleepy.” He chuckled.

“I bet.” After you said that, you began thinking you didn’t have anything you needed for Olivia. No crib, no changing table, no diapers, no nothing. Chris noticed your expression changed in a matter seconds.

“What’s wrong?” He asked.

“I don’t have anything she needs, Chris. I have a car seat and a diaper bag.” You said putting your face in your hands.

“Well then let’s go. Let’s get Olivia everything she needs.” Chris smiled at you.

“What? Now?” You looked up at him.

“Yeah. We can go to Target, Walmart. I don’t know, we will find somewhere.”

You sighed and nodded. “Ok.”

Olivia was asleep in Chris’s arms. You walked over and grabbed the car seat. You sat it on the coffee table in front of Chris. He gently placed Olivia into the car seat and strapped her in.

You smiled watching him do it. He was gentle with her. The way he smiled at Olivia as he buckled her in made your heart melt.

“Alright, lets go.” He said as he stood up. “You can just get a few of the essential things. A crib, diapers, wipes, formula, bottles.” He listed them off.

You nodded. You went to grab the handle of the car seat but Chris stopped you. “Let me.” He said.

He grabbed the handle and carried the car seat to your car. He locked the car seat into place then shut the door quietly. You were sitting in the driver’s seat waiting. He leaned down.

“I know you’re tired, so I’ll be driving.” You gave him a soft smile and willingly went around to the passenger side.

Over the next couple of hours, you, Chris and Olivia shopped for the essentials. You decided on a simple, white crib, nothing extravagant at the moment. You picked up several sets of pink sheets for the crib.

As you shopped, people were giving you odd looks. Who wouldn’t? Two people with a baby shopping for baby things now, that’s technically backwards. But, you paid no mind to the people in the stores.

The shopping ended and you three headed back to your apartment. It’s was around five in the afternoon when you got all the boxes and bags inside.

While shopping, you saw a swing and you knew how much Olivia loved her swing at your parents. You told your self you wouldn’t get it right now, but you looked down at Olivia and caved. That was the first thing put together.

Everything was inside the apartment. Chris was setting down the last bag as you held Olivia on the couch.

“Chris, I can’t thank you enough.” You smiled at him as he walked over and sat beside you. “I don’t know how I’m going to repay you for everything you’ve done for me and now Olivia.”

“Y/N, you don’t have to repay me.” He said looking down at you. “Everything I’ve done, I did because I wanted to.”

A tear slid down your cheek. “No, no, no! Don’t cry.” He said wiping the tear. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you cry.”

“I know you didn’t. I don’t even know why I’m crying.” You said with a small laugh. “You have been so nice to me through out all of this, I’m also sleep deprived and still pretty emotional.”

Chris smiled at you. Before either of you could say anything, Olivia started to cry. You looked down at her and tried to figure out what she wanted. You checked her diaper and it was clean.

“Want me to make a bottle?” Chris asked standing up to reach for the diaper bag.

You nodded as you held Olivia’s pacifier in her mouth. She continued to cry. Chris mixed the bottle and warmed it.

“Here you go pretty girl!” He said replacing the pacifier with the bottle. She started sucking down the bottle. You laughed softly at how quickly she was eating.

As she ate, Chris sat down beside you. Your mind couldn’t help but wonder to the future. What if this was your future? You, Chris and a another baby. Maybe you did want something with Chris, but just not right at the moment. You need some time to adjust with Olivia. And if you were reading Chris right, he would wait until you were ready.

You glanced over at him. He was looking down at Olivia in your arms. She was almost done with the bottle. Her eyes were wide open and she was looking back at Chris.

“Oh yeah, I think she really likes you.” You laughed. “She can’t take her eyes off you. I don’t blame her though.” You smiled at him.

Chris blushed. “You don’t?” He raised his eyebrow.

“Not one bit.” You smiled.

Chris chuckled unsure of what to say. You quickly realized how forward you were.

“I’m sorry, that was very out of line.” You apologized.

“No, don’t apologize. It’s totally ok.” He said. “How I about I start putting together that crib?” Chris smiled. You nodded as your cheeks burned with embarrassment. Chris stood up and went to work.

Olivia finished her bottle, and your burped her. You heard her burp then felt something warm running down your shoulder. “Oh Livie! Why?” You groaned.

Chris turned his head and saw the problem. He walked over and took Olivia. He couldn’t help but laugh, just a little. “Olivia, why would you do that?” He wiped her face.

“I’m going to change shirts.” You turned and went to your room to find a clean shirt. When you returned, you found Chris with Olivia pressed to his chest as he swayed. You smiled watching the scene.

“You know Olivia, I really like your aunt. She’s so kind and loving and caring, but you already know that. And she’s absolutely beautiful.” Chris spoke to your niece.

Your cheeks flushed red as you listened to him go on. You cleared your throat and he quickly turned towards you.

“How much did you hear?”

“Treated Right”

Summary: Chris shows the reader how she should truly be treated.

Warnings: None.

A/N: I write in first person, it’s just easier to me. I’m also fully aware that Joe Johnson, the real director, is not a true jerk. It was again just easier. Also, the reader is from the Texas. I’m from the south and I thought it added something🤷🏼‍♀️

image

Somehow, at the age of twenty-two, I was hired as one of three director’s assistants for “Captain American: The First Avenger.” Each of us had different jobs, but mine I felt mine was definitely the best. I was the line of communication from the director and producers to the actors, mainly Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, and Hayley Atwell. But like all jobs there was a small down side, mine being the jerk of the century in my boss, Joe Johnston. The upside to this job heavily out weighed the down though, I met my best friend and boyfriend, Chris Evans.

I was first hired after the casting and such. My first day meeting the three stars, I would closely work with, was in a meeting. Chris, Sebastian, and Hayley were all brought to New York to go over a few changes in script.

They all came in and sat down in the conference room. Chris looked around. “Is there any coffee any where?” He asked.

Joe immediately said, “The girl-“ he looked at me, “is on her way to get some. Just tell her what you’d like.” I wanted to roll my eyes and scoff, but I kept it to myself. “The girl? Really? I have a name.” I thought to myself. I just smiled at the three stars and nodded. Chris wanted a medium coffee with two sugars and whole milk. Sebastian wanted a large black coffee. I almost gagged. “Who can drink that?” I thought. Hayley asked for a water. Joe wanted his usual. I wrote everything down and headed down to the small coffee cart in the lobby.

Marisa was the young girl who worked the coffee cart and she was kind of my only friend some days. I handed her the paper with the order on it. We made small talk while she fixed the drinks.

“Y/N, I’m out of whole milk.” She said as she fixed Chris’ coffee. “Really?” I whined a little. “What do you have?”

“2% milk, half and half, almond milk, and vanilla creamer.” She listed them off. “I don’t want to just put something in Chris Evans’ coffee. What if he notices?” I panicked a little not wanting to get further on the bad side of my boss.

“Well I can put those four in small cups and he can pick, them it’s not your fault.” Marisa thought of the idea. “That could work!” I perked up. She fixed four small cups with each and labeled them.

I returned to the conference room with what looked to be eight drinks. Before having a millisecond to explain, Joe jumped on me. “Eight drinks! Are you incompetent?” He shook his head. Chris and Sebastian both looked at each other as if they wanted to say something.

I passed out the drinks, Chris’ last. “Mr. Evans, the coffee cart was out of whole milk.” I stated as I placed his coffee down. “These four cups have different options, 2% milk, half and half, almond milk, and vanilla creamer. I wasn’t sure which you would like.” I said smiling.

“Thank you, very thoughtful.” Chris smiled at me. “I’ll take the half and half, and please just call me Chris.” He said. I nodded and handed it to him. Chris fixed his coffee then I cleaned up the trash.

As I was throwing away the extra cups, Joe looked at me. “You can go sit in the hall now.” I turned and looked at him. I nodded and grabbed my small bag and exited. Chris and Sebastian exchanged yet another look. I closed the door and sat on a bench in the hall for the next two hours.

Two hours later, Hayley exited the room followed by Sebastian then Chris and Joe. He glared at me. “You’re done for the day.” He said coldly. I nodded and began to put my laptop away. Joe said his goodbyes to the three stars and walked back into the conference room. Hailey and Sebastian did the same and went for the elevator. Chris leaned against the wall and watched me pack my things. I looked up at him and smiled.

“You know, you don’t have to take that from him.” He stated. I laughed and stood up. “But I do. He’s my boss and if I said anything back, I would end up fired.”

“You could at least remind him that you have a name.” Chris said. “You do have a name right?” He raised his eyebrow.

I laughed and blushed slightly. I couldn’t help that he was attractive and quite the flirt. “Yes, I do have a name.”

“And your name would be?” He stood up from leaning on the wall.

“Y/N” I said with a smile.

“Hmm, well see I think that sounds much better than ‘girl’.” Chris said. “How about you join me for lunch, Y/N?” He asked.

I raised my eyebrow. “You want ME to join you for lunch?” I was shocked.

“Yes, I would like to show you how a woman should be treated.” Chris stated. I blushed five shades of red.

“Ok.” I giggled and put my bag on my shoulder. He smiled and began walking with me to the elevator. “I know a great little cafe.” Chris said.

We left the Marvel offices and began walking. Talking to Chris was easy and it just flowed. We made it to the small cafe and were able to get a table outside. It was beautiful day. We sat down and our conversation just continued to flow.

“So what did you do to end up at the end of Joe’s anger?” Chris asked. I just shrugged. “You’re guess is as good as mine.” I said taking a bite of my sandwich.

“How’d you even know about this place? I’ve lived here for four years and didn’t even know it existed.” I asked changing the subject.

“My sisters are travel gurus and they know all these little places that aren’t super crowded in just about every city.” Chris explained. I laughed softly and nodded.

“Hey, I see that coming in handy.” I smiled at him. I couldn’t help but stare just slightly at him. The way his eyes shine and the way he smiles.

The waitress came with the check and I fully intended on paying for my half of the meal. It wasn’t a date, or at least I didn’t think it was. I reached into my bag to grab my wallet.

Chris raised his eyebrow at me as he accepted the check. “What are you doing?” He asked as he placed his card in the book.

“I’m going to pay for my half of the meal.” I stated mater-of-factly. Chris laughed and handed the waitress the check. He gave her a look and she escaped to run his card.

“Chris, I’m a big girl. I can pay for my food.” I said.

“I know you can, doll.” Chris said with a smile. My cheeks flushed red at the sound of the pet name. “But I wanted to treat you like a real woman should be treated.” He reached across the table and laid his hand over mine. “I understand working for someone who’s not easy to deal with, it happens a lot in this business. That being the case doesn’t mean you deserve to be treated in such a crude and harsh way.”

I couldn’t help but smile at his kind words. Before I could give my response, the waitress returned with his card. He put his card away and pocketed his wallet. We stood and I figured we would part ways from the small cafe.

“So as I continue to treat you like a real woman, which way is your apartment? I’m now going to walk you home.” Chris stated. I could not help but laugh softly at how confident his statement sounded.

“It’s this way.” I said smiling as we walked out of the restaurant and headed down the street.

“So, you’re from Massachusetts, right?” I asked Chris as we walked.

“Yeah, Boston to be exact.” He smiled proudly. “And you are from?” Chris raised his eyebrow and gave me side glance.

“Well, I’m not from around here.” I laughed.

“Oh, I can tell.” He said. “That accent is definitely not one of a Yankee native.” I couldn’t help but laugh, I thought I was doing a pretty good job at covering my accent.

“Alright, alright, you got me!” I smiled “I’m from Texas.”

“Texas?” He said looking at me as we stopped at a cross walk. “Well I will give it to you, I definitely would not have guessed Texas.”

“Well then, where would you have guessed then?” I asked, quirking my eyebrow up and finally letting my accent become more natural.

“I don’t know, maybe somewhere south but definitely not that south.” Chris laughed. I blushed and smiled.

“Yeah, well I’m just a southern belle.” I said exaggerating my southern accent. Chris laughed as we continued our walk to my apartment.

After a few more blocks, we made it to the lobby of my apartment building. “Thank you, Chris!” I smiled up at him. “You definitely showed me how a woman should be treated.”

“That’s good, but I’ve got one more thing to show you.” He said with a smirk.

I raised my eyebrow at him as he stepped closer. He slowly reached his hand up and rested it against my cheek as he leaned in. I knew it was coming. I raised up on my toes just slightly and met his lips. I rested my hand against his chest. As cliché as it sounds, our kiss was electric.

I pulled away as my cheeks turned red. I looked up at him with a soft smile. “I’m not complaining, but why?”

He laughed and smiled down at me. “Because you, Y/N, are absolutely stunning, you’re obviously very smart and talented. You also deserve to be treated with respect and like the woman you are.”

I think I almost melted as I listened to him. “So if it’s ok with you, I want to take you out on a date.” Chris said. “Not like what we just did because I get the feeling you didn’t think that was a date.” He laughed softly. “Like a ‘pick you up at 8, wear something nice’ type date.”

My cheeks were still red as I nodded. “I’d really like that.” I smiled up at him. Chris took my phone from my hand and put his number in my contacts.

“I’m in New York until Wednesday morning. I’ll pick you up tomorrow night at 8.” Chris smirked and handed me my phone. “And wear something nice.” He winked and started walking away.

“Unexpected Gifts” Pt. 9

Story Summary: After college, you moved to L.A. to begin pursuing your dream in the movie industry. You started as an intern and worked your way to leading stunt coordinator for the Marvel franchise on the set of the movie “The Avengers: Age of Ultron.” After the first week, you get a call that changes your life forever. You sister took her life, left you with her two month old daughter, and you are falling in love with one shield wielding maniac.

Pairings: Chris Evan x Reader, Scarlett Johansson x reader (platonic)

Warnings: Lots of fluff! and I think this could be classified as angst, not sure. Its not between Chris and the reader though.

A/N: Ok, when I started writing this I did not know how old Scarlett’s daughter was, I honestly just knew she had one. It just dawned on me to see how old she is and I found out that she is only five, so if I was going by her actually birthdate, she wouldn’t even be born. So, for the sake of this story, Scarlett’s daughter is already born and I’m going to say she is five at this point.

Following your date, you checked your schedule for an upcoming projects. At the time, you had a few small projects that would be wrapped by the time Chris was ready to head to Boston.

You text Chris a picture of your schedule to let him know you were for sure free. He sent back a thumbs up and a smiley face. You laughed and put your phone down. Olivia had started crawling right as she reached eight months, so you couldn’t get to distracted or she would be into something.

Chris was away filming his cameos for a few of the upcoming marvel movies, so it had been just you and Olivia for a couple of days. And you realized you needed to find a few more friends, some that were more available than Chris. But the more you thought about it, the worse it sounded.

So, you decided that staying at home with Olivia was the best option. As you were playing with Olivia, your phone started ringing. You grabbed it from the couch as Oliva crawled over and into your lap. You looked at the screen and saw Scarlett’s face. You quickly answered.

“Hey girl! What’s up?” You asked as you smiled at Olivia.

“Y/N! It feels like it’s been too long since I’ve seen you. I was in town and was wondering if you and Livie would want to grab dinner with Rose and me?” Scarlett said.

You glance down at Olivia, who is just smiling and babbling. “Yes! Oh my gosh! We would love to!”

“Great! I’ll text you the restaurant.” Scarlett ended the call.

“Well, Livie, looks like we have plans for the evening.” You scooped Olivia up in your arms and went to get ready.

You changed out of you shorts and t-shirt and into white jeans, a baby blue top and some sandals. After applying a touch of makeup and smoothing out your hair, you grabbed clothes for Olivia. You picked out a white, sleeveless romper that had pineapples all over it and a matching headband.

Once Olivia was dressed, you grabbed your phone and the diaper bag and headed out the door. You drove downtown to the address Scarlett sent you. You arrived and immediately saw Scarlett waiting with her daughter. You parked and exited your car. You gently got Olivia out as she continually babbled on and on. Grabbing the diaper bag and closing the door, you headed across the street to where Scarlett was waiting.

Scarlett smiled at you as you made it across. You embraced quickly then pulled away.

“Y/N, it’s been too long. We went from seeing each other everyday to not at all.” She exclaimed.

“I know, I know!” You laughed softly. You looked down to see Scarlett’s daughter, Rose. “Well, you must be the famous Rose! I’ve heard so much about you.”

The five year old giggled and held her mother’s hand tighter. “You’re Y/N!” Rose said excitedly. “Mama talks about you, a lot!”

You chuckled and looked to Scarlett, who had a guilty expression. You all entered the small restaurant and were greeted by the hostess. She lead you to a table away from the larger crowds. You weren’t sure if it was because of the children or because of Scarlett, but it was nice not to be seated in the crowded dining area.

The waitress came over with a high chair, which you thanked her for, then she took you drink orders. Once you made sure Olivia was buckled in, you turned back to Scarlett to catch up. Rose was entertaining Olivia.

“So, how is the couple life?” Scarlett quirked her eyebrow.

“Things are great! Like really, really great!” You started, and you couldn’t help the blush that made its way onto your cheeks. “Chris is the sweetest and most caring man ever! He literally bought a pack-n-play and a bouncer to keep at his apartment for Olivia.” You gushed.

Scarlett couldn’t help but smile, she was happy for the both of you. “You’ve got one of the best, Y/N. I’m so happy for you.”

Your conversation continued and flowed into lots of different subjects. The food was being delivered and that’s when your conversation slowed, but once it did, you were able to clearly listen to Rose talking to Olivia.

Rose was trying to get Olivia to say “mama.” At that moment, you felt like you had been punched in the gut. You hadn’t even thought about something like this happening.

“Rose-” Scarlett went to correct her daughter, but you stopped her. She gave you a questioning look.

Rose look at her mom then back to Olivia. Olivia was trying to imitate the sounds Rose was making.

Once all the food was placed on the table, you all started eating. You fed Olivia small bites off your plate, since she was able to eat more solid foods. You and Scarlett continued talking about little things while enjoying your meals.

“Oh! I almost forgot. Olivia and I are going to Boston with Chris in a few weeks.” You told her.

“Really? Are you ready for that?” She asked.

“Yeah, I think I’m ready. I know its only officially been a little over two months, but I feel like things are on their way to be serious with Chris.” You admitted to her. You really did have a gut feeling that things would serious between you and Chris.

“That’s great! Oh, you are going to love his family. They are the sweetest.” Scarlett told you. “His mom is a literal angle!”

You laughed softly. “Well, hopefully they like me and Olivia.”

She reached over and squeezed your hand. “They will love you both! Don’t stress, it causes wrinkles.” She laughed and reached up to your forehead where she could see worry lines.

“Ok, mom.” You both laughed, rather loudly. Rose looked at her mom confused, while Olivia joined in the laughing.

Once the laughing died down the waitress come by with the checks. Scarlett and you both accepted the books and slid your cards in. The waitress walked away to run the cards. You picked Olivia up and sat her in your lap. She started to babble while looking up at you.

“Mmmaaa” She continued trying to mimic the word mama.

Rose smiled and clapped. “Look mama! Olivia is saying mama!” Olivia’s attention was drawn by the clapping, so she looked back at Rose and continued to make the ‘m’ sound.

Scarlett looked over with a small look of apology, but you waved her off. “We should definitely make Chris jealous!” Scarlett smirked.

“How so?” You quirked your brow.

“Like this!” She grabbed her phone and from her purse and opened up the camera app. Rose climbed into her lap to join the picture. Scarlett snapped a cute picture of you four then text it to Chris with a message reading “I’m stealing your girlfriend and her baby!😜”

She sent the message while laughing softly. Chris responded rather quickly.

“Hey, that’s not fair!😢 You CAN’T have them! I’ll fight you”

You both laughed at his message as the waitress returned with your cards. You put your cards away and gathered your things to leave. Scarlett typed her response to your boyfriend.

“You know you won’t win that fight!”

You shook your head at her antics as you both left the restaurant.

“Hey, what are you going to do now?” You asked her.

“Just going back to my hotel, why?” She looked at you.

“Why don’t you and Rose come hang out a little longer at my place?” You offered. “Livie seems to be enjoying Rose’s entertainment.”

Scarlett nodded. “Oh, alright! I’ll meet you there.” She turned and walked down to her car. You did the same. Once Olivia was buckled in, you headed home. As you were driving, you could hear Olivia continuing to babble out, “Mmmmaaaa.”

She babbled the entire way home and even as you made it into your apartment. Scarlett walked in a few minutes behind you. Rose immediately went to play with Olivia on the floor, while Scarlett walked into the kitchen, where you were pouring two glasses of wine.

While you were waiting for Scarlett, your mind wouldn’t slow down. It continued to think about the future, “What should Olivia call you? What’s going to happen when she goes to school and other kids talk about their moms? Technically, you would be her mother figure, but you couldn’t replace her actual mom.”

Scarlett noticed the look that had made its way onto your features as you handed her the glass. She instantly took both glasses, placed them on the counter and pulled you into a hug. She couldn’t even begin to imagine what emotions you were feeling, because most moms/guardians were ecstatic when their babies started talking. Scarlett could see you were happy she was starting to form a word, you were just unsure of what to feel with the word she was forming.

Scarlett pulled away to look at you. Tears were forming in the corners of your eyes.

“No, no, no! No tears.” She said while gripping your shoulders. “I know this is tough, and I know you think by letting her call you mom is somehow wrong because you aren’t the one who gave birth to her, be glad you didn’t, that is the only sucky part.”

A grin broke out on your face. “There we go! A smile, no tears.” Scarlett exclaimed. “As much as you think you aren’t her mother, you are. I’d like to think you love her like you brought her into this world. Because everyone knows you would do anything that baby girl needs and that’s what being a mom is. Doing things that are so unbelievably unnecessary just to see a smile on our kids face, or to keep them safe. You chose to take care of her, that’s what moms do. Because I know, you had the option to leave her with your parents, but you didn’t. You chose to be woman who loves and cares for that child. You aren’t replacing you sister, I know it feels like it, but I know when Olivia is older you while explain it all to her.”

A tear slid down your cheek at Scarlett’s words. She wiped it away and hugged you again. “It’s all going to be ok.”

You nodded and took a deep breath. You pulled back to look at Scarlett. “So, I should be teaching her to say mama?”

“Yes, you should because you are one hell of a mom.” Scarlett beamed.

You returned a smile. You both grabbed your wine and went to join the girls in the living room. Rose was laying on the floor letting Olivia crawl on top of her. Scarlett took a quick picture of them and sent it to you.

You laughed softly at the picture. You and Scarlett started talking about random subjects while watching the girls.

As you were talking, you phone started ringing. You grabbed it from the coffee table to see an incoming facetime call from Chris. You showed the phone to Scarlett, who quickly snatched it and answered the call.

“Hey, bab-” Chris cut himself off when he saw Scarlett on his screen. “Umm, Scarlett? What are you doing?” He questioned the blonde.

“I told you I was going to steal you girlfriend and her baby.” She said as if that was common knowledge. You couldn’t help but laugh.

“Very funny, give the phone back to my girlfriend.” He laughed

“Whatever, you’re no fun.” She rolled her eyes and handed the phone to you then moved to the floor to play with Rose and Olivia.

“Finally! Hey, beautiful!” Chris smiled upon seeing your face on his screen.

“Hey! How was your day?” You asked him.

“Much better, now that I get to talk to you.” You laughed softly. “How was your day?” He asked.

“It was really good! I’ve missed seeing Scarlett, and I finally got to meet the famous Rose.” You explained to Chris. He chuckled.

“I’m glad you had a good day, babe. Now, where is love bug?” He asked.

“She is on the floor, playing. Would you like to speak with her?” You questioned him.

“I would.”

Scarlett picked up Olivia and passed her to you. You placed her in your lap and put the phone in front of her. She started to reach for the phone once she saw Chris’s face.

“Hey there, love bug! What are you doing?” He cooed at the baby. She babbled in response.

“Mmmmaaa” She cooed.

“Say, Rose has been teaching me to say mama.” You explained in a baby voice. “Can you say it Livie? Ma-ma?” You looked down at her. She tried to repeat the syllables but it was lost among her babbles.

You looked at Chris who was smiling from ear to ear. “What?”

“Nothing, just missing you both. Can’t wait to be back with you two.” Chris played it off. Really, he was imagining what it would be like to hear his and your children try to say mama.

“We miss you too! I’ll see you in a few days though, then we will be off to Boston.” You reminded him.

He nodded and smiled. “Well, it’s pretty late here, so I’m going to head to bed. I just wanted to tell you, I miss you and can’t wait to be back.”

“We are here waiting for you! Good night!” You smiled. “Blow kisses, Livie.” Olivia blew him a kiss. Chris did the same.

“Goodnight to all of you guys!” He said a little louder for Scarlett to hear. Scarlett responded before you ended the call.

You put your phone down and joined Scarlett on the floor.

“So, you haven’t said it yet?”  Scarlett asked in a teasing tone.

“No, we haven’t. ” You said as you played with Olivia. “You sound like a teenage girl!” You laughed.

Scarlett laughed. “I do not! I was just curious!” She defended herself.

“Mhm.” You hummed and rolled your eyes. You both laughed and continued to talk.

Soon, both Olivia and Rose were tired. Rose yawned and sat in Scarlett’s lap. “Well, I guess that is my cue.” She laughed.

“Yeah, I think so.” You both stood. You held Olivia as she whined. Scarlett picked up Rose and grabbed her purse. You walked her to the door. “It was so good getting to catch up with you! We definitely need to do this more.”

“Agreed!” She smiled. You hugged gently before she left.

Once she left, you took Olivia to the bedroom. “I know, I kept you up way past your bed time.” You said as you changed her into her pajamas. She continued to whine until you held her against your chest and rocked her gently. Within a few short minutes, Olivia was out. You laid her in her crib then went to get ready for bed.
