just finished a short, more horror leaning, tma fic. unfortunately im now plagued with visions of helen and michael being coworkers on the night shift at a convenience store. im sure theyd have a jolly old time together when they're done terrorizing people.

Listen I love Jon “let’s gouge our eyes out and run away together” Sims as much as the next guy. But we don’t talk enough about the second half of that conversation. Martin ready to crash out just a little. Martin calling Jon on his bullshit. Basically just everything Martin does in that scene actually.

Imagine you’ve been in love with someone for 4 years. You do not expect this to go anywhere because you have shit self esteem and also he kind of hates you. You decide the best use of your life is protecting everyone you know from evil and taking the brunt of that evil yourself. Then one day the person you love who you cannot be around anymore says out of the blue “hey let’s run away together” and you have probably wanted that for years. You have probably dreamed about that moment. And you absolutely can not do that. For him. To protect him. But also because of him. And it’s not really about you is it?

I would go fucking crazy. All things considered, he had an impressively calm reaction to this situation.

Jon definitely should of died quicker in The Magnus Archives

You know, everytime I relisten to TMA, it makes me realize, Jon really should be dead by now. Not in like a "it's part of the point that he's surviving" way, in like a "No like there no fucking way he's not dead" way. Jon not getting shot in episode 2 because Jonah thought he was annoying is more unbelievable than the monsters. Like forget about the eldritch horrors, the most unrealistic thing in TMA is Tim not naynaying on Jon's ass like 6 episodes in because he's a pretentious cunt.

so is the implication here that michael stays at the institute/in the archives even after gertrude's death? gotta say I am very charmed imagining the bitterest man alive passing up a chance to finally get out because god damn it. these new idiots are just like he was aren't they.

Yes! He’s still stuck at the institute and he just gets better (worse) overtime! I feel like after a few pranks and some shenanigans more directed at Elias, he ends up with a re-negotiated contract.

He’s still tied to the Institute but he’s no longer tied to Gertrude. His role is changed to “Assistant to the Archives.” At the time, Michael is all for it, he doesn’t want to be ordered around by Gertrude. But when Gertrude passes and he realizes he’s still STUCK there, he regrets that his past self was manipulated like that.

By that point, he’s a lot more Spiral-inclined, and he becomes a friendly but difficult coworker for the new archive time. It’s hard to get a straight answer from him both from his nature changing and the fact that he knows Elias is watching him. But he does his best!

Lex: Okay, let's just move forward with the meeting, shall we? So Q1 is in the books and we had a very strong showing. Now, there are certainly some gaps within our processes that we're working strategically in order to align that should help us bridge those gaps in a really efficient way.

Bruce: Translator?

Tim: Q1 wasn't good and management is very upset about it.

Lex: That's not what I said, okay? There are certainly some gaps, but management is working lockstep in order to come up with strategic processes in order to alleviate these areas of deficiency.

Tim: They're planning layoffs.

Lex: No. No. That— I'm not saying that, okay? We're just developing ways to become a much leaner organization.

Tim: It's gonna be twenty-five percent of the organization.

Lex: No!
