Hey, I just published a new essay on Medium about Autism Speaks and why it’s so dangerous. Go give it a read!
When you’re ten years old, a Hogwarts professor comes to teach you how to cast a Patronus. People were worried at first -- they said ten was too young. You can’t even go to Hogwarts. But the grass around your house could be dangerous, and besides, the consequences for mistakes aren’t that bad.
Your natural Patronus is your starting Pokèmon. A lot of people have Rattata Patroni, but not all. Those with more uncommon Patroni get special attention from the Professors. Some of them are given a special spellbook they call a Pokèdex and told to find as many different Patroni as they can.
Patroni want nothing more than to protect their casters from harm. To do that, they practice against other Patroni. This is called a battle. The winning Patronus becomes stronger and better able to protect its caster.
Besides the Patroni of known casters, there are others that wander Great Britain. No one knows quite where they come from. Some say they are the Patroni of people killed in the Battle of Hogwarts. Others say they formed spontaneously from happy memories. Regardless, they roam the lands. Some casters tame them with spells -- a burst of red light, and then they will serve you loyally.
A few Patroni of immense power roam Great Britain as well. They are said to have belonged to tremendously powerful wizards. Over time, they come to be known as “legendary.”
Godric Gryffindor’s is known as Articuno. Only the bravest dare to venture to its frozen home. Ho-oh, guardian of the skies, is mastered by Helga Hufflepuff, protecting Hogwarts with the help of a Patronus. Salazar Slytherin’s is referred to as Rayquaza. It knows how to manipulate others to get its way. Rowena Ravenclaw’s is named Giratina. Its alternate dimension fascinated her, and even today the brightest students of her house are encouraged to seek out and learn from Giratina. Merlin, as a valuer of ideals, cast a Patronus known as Zekrom.
There were others, of course. For centuries, there had been thirty others. But then, shortly after the Battle of Hogwarts, a new legendary Pokèmon appeared out of the remains of Lord Voldemort.
Its name was Yveltal.
Pokemon, but with patronuses
I… have no idea how this would work I’m sorry. Anyone want to reblog this with their thoughts?
Something really interesting about the worldbuilding of Harry Potter that is never outwardly discussed but I find to be extremely likely and often think about is that
Harry and his friends are likely going to see the end of the Wizarding Statute of Secrecy within their lifetimes and honestly, it’s already on its last threads while he’s at school. With everyone so busy with what Voldemort is doing, the entire Wizarding Community fails to see what the Muggles are doing.
It’s the 90′s. Our 1990′s. The internet is starting to grow and comes into nearly every UK and US household. Video cameras are becoming thinner, sleeker, more user friendly, and above all, cheaper. By the time Voldemort is dead, the first camera phone is only three years away from being made.
Yes, these things don’t work in Hogwarts, or likely in the Ministry either, and maybe even the biggest Wizard towns block electronics, too.
But Muggleborns exist. They exist and canonically are able to do uncontrolled magic, with eleven years of life before their questions about how and why are even begun to be answered.
It’s 2015 and there are more than a few eleven year olds who have their own cellphones, which now almost all come standard with cameras. Or they have older brothers and sisters who have them.
YouTube exists in the modern world and anyone with an internet connection can post to it easily.
Even if the Ministry has a new special division to monitor the internet for leaks, they don’t REALLY understand most Muggle technology and this isn’t likely going to be any different. They won’t be able to get every video and picture and post.
It starts with a video of some kid blooming a flower in their hand like little Lily Evans did in front of her sister some forty years ago. People will just think these are pranks, tricks of editing and lighting like that one guy does with his Vines. But then some other kid sees it, and recognizes it as real because they can do this same thing, too, and no one believes them, either.
Muggleborn children start finding each other on the internet long before Hogwarts finds them.
Hogwarts is still, quite literally, in the Dark Ages. They’re too slow. They’re too outdated. They can’t keep up unless they change.
The world is different and a big secret like the Wizarding Statute of Secrecy isn’t going to stay hidden for much longer.
Maybe not even “19 Years Later.”
I’m fairly certain that Bernie has never tried to kill Hillary. Then again, my Latin teacher said that our only primary source for Cateline’s actions is Cicero’s speeches, which are not exactly going to be the most trustworthy in this scenario.

“The 17-year-old, Hunger Games actor Amandla Stenberg has come out as non-binary.
Stenberg – who plays Rue in the adventure film franchise – says she feels like she’s not a ‘woman’ all the time, and non-binary is a term that she feels comfortable using to describe herself. (She is using female pronouns).
Writing on Tumblr, she said she is organizing a workshop on feminism, specifically how ‘mainstream feminist movements have continuously excluded women who are not white, thin, cisgender, able-bodied and neurotypical’.
Something we are struggling with is understanding the intersection of feminism and gender identity…
We’re both people who don’t feel like “women” all the time – but we claim feminism as our movement.
Basically, we’re trying to understand the duality of being a non-binary person and a feminist. How do you claim a movement for women when you don’t always feel like one?”
Read the full piece here:
#1: THANK YOU AMANDLA FOR YOUR CONSISTENT AWESOMENESS AS AN INTERSECTIONAL FEMINIST AND ROLE MODEL FOR YOUTH & EVERYONE ELSE!
#2: YOU DON’T NEED TO BE A WOMEN OR CIS TO BE FOR WOMEN’S RIGHTS. Just like white people can and should advocate for racial equality, everyone can and should advocate for gender equality.
I give Amandla a TON of credit for having to not only grow up in public, but grow up as a non-binary POC in a white / sexist / cisnormative society! She is young and figuring herself and society out. I’m Team Stenberg and am not looking to call her out, I just wanted to make this crucial clarification. As Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie says, We Should All Be Feminists
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson go on a camping trip, set up their tent, and fall asleep. Some hours later, Holmes wakes his faithful friend. ‘Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.’ Watson replies, ‘I see millions of stars.’ ‘What does that tell you?’ Watson ponders for a minute. 'Astronomically speaking, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Timewise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, it’s evident the Lord is all powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you?’ Holmes is silent for a moment, then speaks. 'Watson, you idiot, someone has stolen our tent.’

Completely ignoring the abortion issue, that isn’t the full quote. According to the least biased source I could find, Fox News Insider, the full quote is "Here at Planned Parenthood, we firmly believe that every person has the right to live, work, and raise a family freely and without the threat of deportation or separation.” It’s using “live” in a different sense than the one that excerpt implies. The intended meaning is much closer to “live in” or possibly “live one’s life” than “be alive.”
Zero self-awareness
Imagining a story in your head:
Writing down the story:
It wouldn’t be a very big difference, but it would be a difference.
Attacking someone for not dating you is saying that it is your right to control their actions.
Attacking someone you are dating depends on the circumstance. From the list above, it seems like the biggest reason is infidelity, which is saying that your right to faithfulness is greater than someone’s right to life. It’s also more centered around forcing someone into not doing something than forcing someone into doing something.
Attacking your ex again depends on the circumstances. Infidelity would be basically the same, but attacking someone for breaking up with you is probably more like the first case.
There’s also the fact that there tends to be a greater connection between partners than between one person asking the other out.
Again, these things are similar, and I’m not saying they’re not. I’m just saying that there is a distinction, though the distinction is not the most important part of this post.
