So based on both radios, I’m guessing Gaetan heard JU say “maintain a gap [ ] to car in front” (said car in front being Carlos) and reported it as being told not to stay behind (which is a reasonable assumption but not the exact same thing). But because of the slipstream, Alex has a passing opportunity that would achieve the same result (gap in front), so JU allowed it, but Gaetan didn’t have time to react.

This is the cutest thing ever, Pierluigi explains how he and Carlos met for the first time, saying that they started working in 2021 when due to Covid Rupert could not leave England. I think the most frustrating part of watching carlos having a less than ideal time in the williams is that he’s a big part of why the car is so far from what it was last season, the team, at least in theory, are willing to listen to him and do what’s in his best interest, he’s adapted quite well to the car considering his move from having driven the ferrari for four years, and yet it’s more often than not things beyond his control that are keeping him from realising all the positives.
