whyyy is any attempt at being productive like an endlessly dragging negotiation with a kindergardener like okay buddy we'll go to the library and put the phone in the locker okay? Yes you can scroll tumblr later okay. Yes you can watch that mildly interesting two hour long video later, now it's time to do the thing that you actually deeply care about and want to do. No it's not boring, remember, you wanted to do this, you were excited for it? Yes I know thinking about it is more fun than doing it but I promise once you do it it'll be very satisfying. I know it's already the afternoon but there's still many hours in the day so it's not wasted yet, we can still do things. No don't grab your phone again. Yes, you can have a snack too. Come on now please.

I mean I know why, it's the ADHD, but still you'd think I'd get better at this eventually

Just learnt about this dude Galois, absolutely crazy. so basically, he:

- tries to get into "Ecole Polytechnique", the French school for science at the time, and fails

-publishes several papers on polynomials

-his father dies

-tries again (and fails) to get into the Ecole

-publishes several papers basically founding group theory

-attends a lesser school, gets kicked out and eventually arrested for political beliefs

-died in a duel shortly after he got out of prison

Land theft and dispossession (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x)

A note: The list of readings is not exhaustive. It is only an introduction to the history of the occupation. I know annoying "Desis" are going to see this and bitch and moan about how Kashmir is actually integral to their country out of a sense of colonial entitlement. Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris, the natives, no matter what religion they belong to. Neither Pakistan nor India get to decide the matter of Kashmiri sovereignty. The reasons given by both parties as to why Kashmir should be a part of either nation are bullshit. The United Nations itself recognises Kashmir as a disputed region, so I will entertain neither dumbfuckery nor whataboutism. I highly encourage fellow Indians especially to take the time to go through and properly understand the violence the state enacts on Kashmiris. I've also included links to learn more about Kashmiri culture because really, what do the rest of us know about it? Culturally & linguistically Kashmir differs so much from the rest of India and Pakistan (also the way Kashmiri women are fetishised... yikes). It's not just a bilateral issue between the two nations over land, it actually affects the people of Kashmir

It is high time we also start boycotting everyone involved in this project.

all these arguments about the new harry potter casting but all i can think is that every person involved in the series has willingly signed up to work with such an outspoken transphobe

Fairly leaning into art category similar to architecture - there is utility involved and also a lot of creative freedom. Would you say shelter as a concept was discovered or invented? It was a necessity to be able to survive.

I view mathematics as this world people have built brick by brick over the span of humanity. And you are a tourist looking around, marveling at the beautiful buildings (and some interestingly ugly ones as well) built by those who came before you. If you are lucky you might be able to lay down a few bricks yourself.

You don't always understand why something looks the way it does, but sometimes you do and then it's like you are suddenly the smartest person in the room.
