The reason Peter, Umbridge, and Snape are hated so much more than other characters who committed equally or even more evil actions, is because those three characters were described as unattractive in some way, in the books.
Many movie fans like Snape more than book fans, because Alan Rickman played Snape, and he is considered conventionally attractive. This same event did not happen with Peter and Umbridge, as they are often not attributed to conventional beauty standards, making them hated more than Snape.
I’m team kittywater, not because I ship it, but because this fandom has a habit of humanizing the most despicable male characters and villainizing the female.
Barty, the loyal follower of wizard-moustache man (of his own volition mind you; his parents were anti-voldy) who tortured fralice to insanity, bullied neville, and tried to have Harry killed is suddenly a fan-favourite who can do no wrong.
But Umbridge, the worst thing she did was be an asshole and abusive to her students (which is still extremely terrible, just not on the same level as genocide) is all of a sudden unforgivable and more hated than voldemort himself.
if you have a deep hatred for umbridge while loving canonical death eaters, you should ask yourself why is that <3

a/n: my first post yay! Something cute and short to start me off 🤍
After years of struggle it was hard for Remus to believe that he finally felt at peace again. No more war and no more death. Most importantly, no more hiding his feelings for Sirius. Maybe not most importantly over death but it felt like that for him sometimes.
They were together after so long of just pining after one another. Living together in a cozy cottage, being able to hear the birds each morning, smelling the flowers Remus had planted himself in the front yard. His dream had come true.
His habit of waking up early had still remained, but no longer was it because he struggled with sleeping, he actually felt excited to live the life that he used to only imagine. Excited for each new day that gave him more happiness than sometimes he felt he deserved.
A shock ran through him at the sudden cold hands under his jumper.
“Merlin, Sirius! You’re freezing. Were you in an icebox before you came down?”
Remus wouldn’t admit it but he enjoyed the small chuckle that he heard from his lover in response. This wasn’t the first time Sirius had done this and certainly would not be the last. Each time, Sirius claimed that Remus was the only furnace he would ever need and it was often on the list of reasons on why Sirius loved him.
Remus would roll his eyes and pretend like he didn’t absolutely melt when Sirius cuddled into him for warmth.
“What are you making?” Sirius asked with such a soothing tone that he only used around Remus. When he got the answer of chocolate chip pancakes his smile only brightened. Moments like these were the meaning of love for Sirius. His arms wrapped around Remus’s waist with the promise of amazing pancakes right after is better than he could have ever imagined.
It made him think of all the times back at the Potters when they were young and Euphemia would teach Remus how to bake and cook just about everything. Sirius liked watching. Everyone knew though that if Sirius attempted to work in the kitchen he’d only cook up disaster.
When the pancakes were done, they both settled at the kitchen table. Both sparing one another goofy glances, filled with so much love it was hard to contain. To sum it up, if Sirius was Padfoot at the moment his tail would be going insane.
They went through with their day with trouble-free ease. Finishing breakfast, getting ready for the day, flirting and laughing with each other happily.
Right now Remus was working in the garden. Overalls and a white t-shirt on, much to Sirius’s dismay who said he should have ditched the shirt. They had plenty of fruit, vegetables, and flowers, most of which Lily and James had recommended considering how much experience they both had with their own garden.
Remus enjoyed the hobby and enjoyed that Sirius liked to lay outside. Being able to admire him and the way he stretched out on the grass. Sirius did the same thing. Watching his beautiful boyfriend in his goofy little gardening hat and gloves. The nerdier Remus seemed to get, the more Sirius wanted to just squeeze him with love.
So there they were, living in a peace they weren’t sure that they could get. Being able to love each other and never hold back that love meant everything in the world to them. This was their happily ever after.

not the most popular hc but james was never regulus’ replacement to sirius.
james was his best friend, his other half, and someone who would always have a place in his life beyond romantic or platonic bounds.
remus was something else to sirius. remus was the love of his life, the only person sirius really listened to, and the feelings he had for him were unique to him.
now peter … peter was exactly like a brother to sirius. he looked up to sirius like regulus used to, he followed him around like regulus used to, and it was impossible for sirius to not have the same bond with peter that he did with regulus. that’s why sometimes he would snap at him, too, because that’s just how brothers are.
except peter didn’t have siblings so he couldn’t help but internalize all the off handed rude comments that sirius thought were just playful or would brush off. it didn’t help that sirius talked about regulus with such resentment and peter felt like he could relate to regulus so sirius probably hated him, too. all that contempt just kept building up.
and in the end, even though regulus was a death eater just like peter turned out to be, the brother sirius chose to have betrayed him in ways worse than regulus ever did. because regulus never had the power to destroy sirius’ life. sirius took that away from him the day he was disowned. he willingly handed peter that power, though, and it was a mistake that had consequences to it that none of them would ever heal from.
Sometimes, Peter overhears students at Hogwarts talking about how he’s not fitting with Sirius and James. They say that they’re so charismatic and cool next to him. They wonder if they actually like him or is he just being clingy?
Sometimes, he starts to believe them.
But then, James practically begs him to play quidditch with him and Sirius challenges him to wizard’s chess saying that “this is the time he finally beats his Petey-boy” and he knows they love him unconditionally.
I understand the desire to ship but "we would find each other in every universe...as coworkers" is an insanely funny concept to me I'm sorry.
thought i was done talking about the fandom taking jonathan's best attributes and giving them to steve, but i did just see someone on pinterest headcanon steve as "getting really into photography in his twenties" and i just think at a certain point you need to admit you want jonathan with joe keery's face and call it a goddamn day. you don't love steve harrington you love your oc jeve byerrington
