The Snake, The Rose, and The Sword- Chapter One

So, I should preface. This story will be told in a weird third person type of way. She/her pronouns will be used for the reader and I might just honestly give her a name, but how she looks and sounds to you is up to you.. Idk how well this would write if i used the reader as ‘you’ and left it ambiguous as this story has a real in depth plot. I hope this is okay and you can still enjoy the story! I'm sorry if this upsets anyone! As always I'm looking for feedback!! Enjoy!

Chapter One: 'As The Prophecy Foretold'

Prince Charlie had been in the overworld for six months. He didn't exactly like the overworld, but he didnt love it either. He was on the search for the Rose, a mortal girl who had unmistakable power. Charlie was in a bar at a nightclub with his girlfriend, who he is almost.. 99.9% sure is her. It would be lucky, but he needed more time to decide if it was her. His current goal was to see if she had any display of anything closely related to the supernatural world. If she did, great, and if she didn't, he’d have to go looking in more places for the chosen one. His girlfriend was sitting quietly. He was surprised that she was silent, as it was her idea to go here, and try something new. “Baby, you okay?” Charlie asked. His vampire instincts told him something was on her mind. “I'm fine, just, freaked out.” she said, her eyes meeting his gaze. “Why’s that?” he asked, coming closer to her, looking around, using his heightened senses to see if anything around them was amiss. “That guy, over there, he’s looking at me like I'm a meal.” she whispered, obviously freaked out. Charlie immediately saw who she was talking about. A man much larger than him, who was staring at her, like she was a possession. “Let's go.” Charlie said, protectively, getting a sense that he wasn't from the overworld. Charlie made sure to hold the small of her back, noticing that the man was following them. After leaving, the loud music of the club came to an eerie silence. “Let’s go back to yours,” Charlie said, holding her close. 

Even if she wasn't the red rose, he still wanted to make sure she was safe.. It was important for him to protect and guide.. Even when it came to the mortals. 

“Hey, you” the man had followed them outside. “Hey man, leave her alone.” Charlie said, stepping in front of her. He pulled up his sleeve, to reveal a crown tattoo and a sword running down the middle of it. He was trying to get the man to leave, as he knew he came from his realm. “You think that scares me?” the man asked, revealing his snake tattoo, wrapped around a crown. Charlie knew all too well what that meant… “We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” Charlie said, getting ready to fight this way. “What’s going on?” his girlfriend asked, a scared look on her face. Using your name, he replied. “Stay back, just a rival I have..” The tall man approached Charlie quickly, swinging a punch, and Charlie dodged it.. Barely.

“Give me the girl, and no one gets hurt.” the man said to Charlie as they fought. “No can do, buddy, go find someone else to pick on. You both know my father won't be happy if you scratch me up.” Charlie said, and getting caught off guard, he took a punch to the face. “Charlie!” his girlfriend yelled out, rushing to him. “Cmere, pretty girl” the burly man said, reaching for her. She dodged his first swipe, and started running, knowing Charlie would be fine, if the man's main goal was getting to her. “Leave me alone!” She shouted, running for her life. When she got to the end of the alley, she realized it came to a dead end… as she braced for impact, she realized the only thing she could do..  her power.. that she had managed to keep hidden from the public eye. Charlie watched helplessly from the ground, knowing there was much he could do without revealing himself as a vampire. All of a sudden, he heard a crackling in the air.. A red, stunning explosion threw the man back into the air, his head hitting the ground with a crack. The light faded.. And she passed out, her head also hitting the ground.

Charlie snapped out of his senses, and ran over to her, healing her wounds, using an ancient enchantment that he was taught by the healers at a young age. He watched as it healed itself, and she slowly woke up.

“Baby, are you okay?” charlie asked, his own heart racing alongside hers. Her pulse was loud, speaking to him. “P-please dont report me to the fbi-” she said, coughing. He laughed, glad to see she was okay. “I won't, but that was extraordinary, we have a lot to talk about.” he said, smiling. He had found the chosen one, his rose. The burly man fled the scene.. ….. present day, the kingdom of shadows. “Sir!” said the man who had the snake tattoo. He looked up at the throne, a silver haired, tall man in a red blouse and black pants. He was sprawled all over his throne, a black and red crown on his head, with a snake symbol in the middle. He adjusted his glasses. “What.” he said plainly, not even looking over at one of his spies. “Your brother Charlie, found the Rose.” The silver haired prince shifted around slowly, to look at his servant. “Oh? And you didn't bring her back to me?” the silver haired prince stood up, his fangs showing. “No my lord, your brother and the rose got away before I could fight back the rose. She-” The prince stared at his servant with searing eyes. The servant spy knew.. Nothing good ever happened when you got searing eyes. “There are NO EXCUSES.” the prince shouted, grabbing his staff from its pedestal. The staff was black, with red roots twisting up and down the intricate wood. It had a glowing, red and dark mystical gem at the top, that moved and swirled, with a hypnotizing aura to it. “I know my lord, I apologize sincerely. She was too powerful, I didn't even have time to summon up the darkness.” the servant spy said, starting to back away, slowly. “And what did this power look like..?” the prince asked, almost mockingly. “Like a red explosion of light! It was like nothing I had ever seen.” the servant said, not daring to make eye contact with the shadow prince. “Oh really? And what did this mortal girl look like?” the prince asked, starting to channel the energy he would need.. To test this spy. “She was like nothing I had ever seen.. Beautiful, really” the spy said. “SILENCE.” The prince tapped his staff harshly to the floor. “You do NOT speak of my beloved rose in that sense. She is MINE to call beautiful” the prince said. His silver hair sparkled against the candles and red lighting of his throne room, an evil aura of the silver from his hair, surrounding him. The servant shook in his stance, everyone was afraid of the young prince. The immense power he had over anyone and everything he put his mind to. “I apologize my lord” The servant bowed his head. 

“Kneel.” the prince said, through his gritted sharp fangs. The servant shakily fell onto his knees on the ground, praying to whatever existed beyond this life that this prince would show him mercy. He looked up at the prince, and his eyes were met with cold, dark, merciless eyes that lay in the prince's sockets. “You did not meet my expectations, and do you remember what happens.. When they are not met!?” the prince asked, his voice dripping of mockery, frustration and disappointment. “A fate worse than death, sir” the servant said, knowing his fate was upon him. “Exactly. You are guilty of failure to hand the red rose over to me, AND to speak of her beauty?” he fake questioned, looking for any sense of remorse in his servants eyes. “You must deserve a fate worse than death, my friend. You don't deserve to live in this world in the presence of the red rose. Your eyes will never lay on the uniting of realms.” With that, the prince summoned up the shadows of darkness, his own dark power surging through his arms. His tattoos moved by themselves, passing along the power to his ceptor. He pointed it at his neck, a boatload of snakes manifesting out of dark magic. The snakes climbed all over the spy, biting a burning venom into his skin. The screams from the servant rang out in the vast throne room. He laughed as he walked back to his throne, letting his snakes do their job. He eyed another one of his close assistants. “You!” He called them over. “Go get me a glass of wine. My usual red. Wonderfulthings are happening here.. And put your best men on the red rose. I need her here, by my side.” The assistant nodded. “Right away, sir” They eyed the servant spy, his body twitching from the poisons of the snakes. The assistant left, right away, leaving the room. The silver haired prince tapped his ceptor twice, the snakes slithering back up into the red and dark gem on the top. “Oh my little rose, how I've waited for this day.” … 

Present day, the overworld Charlie found a more secluded area to talk to the Rose in. That was her name, or what she would be called when they got to his home realm. “Listen, this is going to sound completely wild, and I totally understand if you don't believe me, but hear me out.” “Okay, I'm listening,” the rose said, grabbing her boyfriend's hand. “I come from a long, infinite line of powerful vampires,” he said, pausing to look at her. “You're messing with me,” she laughed. Charlie frowned, knowing she wouldn't take it seriously. He felt his fangs in his mouth. “No, I'm not, look.” Charlie showed her his fangs, how sharp they were. She stared at him, ready to laugh. “Those are just veneers, charlie” “You want more proof?” he said, standing up. “Yeah, who wouldn't” she said, still not believing him. “I can read your mind, I can teleport from place to place.” he shrugged. “But if you don't believe me..” he said, teasingly. She watched as he disappeared and reappeared behind her, kissing her neck. “See?” he smirked, whispering in her ear. She turned around to face him. “I see,” she agreed. “I'm not the only one in the world with some weird ability,” she said, looking up at her boyfriend. She wasn't surprised that he was telling the truth, but she was more surprised to see that two people with extraordinary ability naturally found each other. “In my world” he started, circling back around to the bench they were sitting on… “A prophecy was foretold.. That a mortal girl would unite the supernatural realm, and the overworld. A long time ago, way before you or I ever existed, our worlds were one. Tragedy struck, and the two worlds closed off from one another. When they were together, it was a world of harmony, riches.. Happiness.. And an ancient witch, shortly after that, told my young father that you would come to pass, to unite us once more.” he finished, taking her hands in his. “There’s no doubt in my mind that it's you.” he said, letting her take it all in. “That would explain.. A lot..” she said, looking down at their connected hands. 

“I know, it's insane. I’ve been searching forever for you.” he said, tears coming to his eyes. “My red rose” he said, reaching a hand to cup her cheek. She smiled, looking at her boyfriend. “But, all happiness aside, my father, King Aldric, he turned into a shell of a person.. We used to be immortal, and most royalty are.. But as time went on, things changed, and evolved. His soul moves on to something greater, but.. I'm still here.” he explained, letting her face go. She nodded, trying to comfort him, realizing he had lost his father. “In order to take the throne to the fullest extent, we need to do it with someone we love.” he said, grabbing her hand once more. “And we need to do it soon.. Before” He paused, squeezing her hand.. “My brother, Nate, finds you.”

teehee.. so this is my first go at writing like this, so I'm open to feedback. I used to be good at writing full length stuff, and because of covid that slipped away. so, im taking a stab at re-honing my skills. work with me here!!
