It's a forgone conclusion. We already know how this fight ends. Vergil becomes Nelo Angelo and a mindless slave of Mundus. I will again assert that absolutely EVERYTHING this game did with Vergil was a shameless retcon, because in DMC1 it is overtly implied that Vergil was kidnapped and brainwashed by Mundus as a child and Dante thought he was dead. But this games ending for Vergil doesn't really step on any toes - it just recontextualizes some things. In the end, Vergil is in the same place he was in that game, as a slave to Mundus with his half of the amulet. The how was just shifted around.

Throughout the game we've seen Dante defeat his enemies and then they pledge loyalty to him by becoming his Devil Arms. Every single boss that DANTE defeats becomes his ally willingly, acknowledging his strength. Whereas Vergil defeated Beowulf, and claimed his devil arm against his will. Here in the final scene with Vergil, we can fill in the blanks and the picture painted in our minds is a grim one. Vergil loses this fight, because he is weak from his battle with Dante. And the demon culture of submission to the victor will be imposed upon him. Vergil will be forced to become a weapon for Mundus, and he will live a waking nightmare for an unknown amount of time until the battle with his brother on Mallet Island.

Goodbye, the greatest rival character in video games. See ya in fourteen years.

thinking about this conversation between kevin and su from chapter 31, while they're in the HoC, and the "amphoreus is a simulation/elysian realm situation/time loop + anaxa is the only one Aware" theory again.

su and kevin are aware that the other is Aware in the HoC, while pardofelis is "seemingly" not. (i say "seemingly" because vill-v confronts her about it later, and pardo tries to dodge the questions she's being asked)

not to mention, the storyline mission title for this part of the ch31 is titled "trailblazer" and the objective is to battle the herrscher of corruption, which, mind you, it literally took form as ely for a good while, just with a different color scheme

adding a line now because. i start to talk a LOT and this gets pretty lengthy

kevin is the damn same in every universe. phainon IS indeed a prisoner of his past (would not be surprised if the primordial one/phanes in genshin is too . cuz come on now)

the context for this line is that the HoC was showing scenes of the catastrophe that happened in nagazora (where kevMEIsu attended high school together). su had noticed it shortly after he noticed kevin staring into the distance at it; kevin told him that it was showing them scenes of his past, thus leading us to this narrator line

considering one of the 3 paths amphoreus has is remembrance, then perhaps we'll see phainon's memories of aedes elysiae through something similar. (which would fuck me up. to be honest)

okay. obviously, the cyrene we've seen in the game CGs and teasers/trailers thus far is her from when her and phainon were younger. and because she's deeeeaaadddd???????? then you likely understand why we haven't seen her older self

the sword piercing through her chest looks very similar to the flame reaver's, as many have theorized already. and the flame reaver has been theorized to be phainon as well. so many people think that flame reaver phainon straight up killed her

however. considering this is elysia. elysia, who sacrificed herself for the sake of humanity, because she loved humanity so much. have we never thought that cyrene may have sacrificed herself in some way?????

bringing me back to the time loop theory/thought i had...

amphoreus is in a time loop; the prophecy of amphoreus being destroyed and coming to an end has already happened many many times. the flame reaver has managed to destroy almost every timeline it has, and he will continue to do so until not a single timeline remains.

"may this world never have need for a deliverer"

perhaps she says that in hopes the flame reaver will not come to destroy the peace in that timeline. however, it happens again and again. she's sacrificed herself and died so many times, witnessing and will continue to witness all that she loves come to an end.

again, like i said in my time loop thought post, perhaps the only way to rid amphoreus of the impending doom is with us showing up and finally being able to change things within the timelines, since we are an outside factor, not originally part of the timeline

anaxa is a walking, rotting corpse, being kept alive by some divine power or sheer will. what if his body is from a previous timeline, and his consciousness and memories are the same from said timeline.
