The Ghoul Boys Are Back!

So this is the “pilot episode” for a comic I’d like to keep adding onto just for fun, the basic premise is that it’s a post canon fix it comic about Dean discovering who he is outside of his macho persona while also repairing his relationships and building new ones.

It is a Destiel fic but it’s gonna be a slow burn because Dean has decided he can’t talk about his feelings until all his emotional issues are resolved (spoilers that’s not how things like that work).

I also plan on peppering in some lore explaining how Cas got out of the empty, how they ended up with a house, and who is currently God in universe. I’m not sure when I’ll get to work on another installment but hopefully it won’t be long because this has been an AU rolling around in my head since 2020

At five years old, "Happy Birthday" is a hostess cake and a pixie stick at a roadside stop. Dad hands you a little metal box to light your own candle. "Something to know for later," he mutters. You lick the chocolate from your thumb, but it doesn't erase the bite of the metal.

At six years old, "Happy Birthday" is just a song sung in the car as the world leaves you behind again. Your baby brother doesn't even know the words yet.

At eight years old, "Happy Birthday" is the ugliest homemade chocolate cake you've ever seen (you haven't seen many). But it has the right number of candles, and it gets all over your face. Thank god for uncles.

At 17, "Happy Birthday" is a dismissal. You wish he would have just forgotten, like last year. Your stomach aches for days.

At 26, "Happy Birthday" is something you scoff to yourself in the mirror, alone. Your baby brother sings that song to other people you've never met.

At 30, "Happy Birthday" is surely a joke. But hey, at least you made this far. If that's even a good thing anymore.

By 40, "Happy Birthday" is just one more thing you don't let yourself think about. You wish you didn't know what day it was. Sometimes you don't.

At 41, "Happy Birthday" dares to be cautiously optimistic. You make your own desserts, in your own kitchen, with your own family. You smile when it gets all over the boy's face.

The day you turn 43, "Happy Birthday" is almost too overwhelming to hold. Your life is gentle; there is love. You watch the sunrise, and you're glad to be here. You think of all the people you have been. You are glad to be this one now.

Is it bad that I look up to you?

TSH spoilers:

I feel like we as a fandom do not talk about Henry’s symbolism in TSH enough. Like, that dude is the literal embodiment of death, and I just think it’s so damn cool. I mean, his whole obsession with language and literature stemmed from the fact that he almost died in a car accident. And then every death we see in the book (the farmer’s, Bunny’s, and his very own) is directly at his hands. The others were accomplices, sure, but Henry’s the one who takes action every time. And in Francis’s failed suicide and Richard’s near death in the epilogue, they both see Henry, not Bunny or Charles or what have you.

Henry is not only obsessed with death, he IS death. He’s the reaper who’s friends toy with their mortality all the time through drugs and booze. The reason they all admire him is not only because of his size and stature and brilliance; it’s because he’s dangerous. If beauty is indeed terror, than he’s the most beautiful of them all. They all have the life preservation skills of a fly, so of course they love Henry. And of course his actions constantly bring them closer to danger and death.

dean sliding off one of his rings in s4-5 and fiddling with it and when cas asks about it dean motions for cas to hold out his hand and dean places the ring in cas’ palm and closes the angel’s fingers around it and he says quietly, “keep it.” cas looks down in awe with a little smile on his face and he starts wearing dean’s ring every day. every time dean sees that cas is still wearing his old ring, something in his chest tightens and his heart skips a beat
