I NEED to get my dash looking like I woke up in Ewan McGregor heaven. I can't take only seeing posts that invoke all out panic and despair. I get it. I GET IT! We're all gonna be murdered and select rich white people will finally live their 1950s wet dream and there's nothing we can do about it. Is it too much to ask that I at least be able to read some quality Ewan fanfic as shit hits the fan? What about headcanons of an obscure character? Where are pictures of his handsome face? Think-pieces on an underrated movie? We need a Titanic "and the band played on" moment but it's just all the Ewan McGregor fans sending memes and gifs and whatnot. Please for the love of GOD, I need some happiness 😫
New year, new movies! In 1997, Ewan starred in three movies and all of them had some pretty bizarre plots lol. Let's start at the beginning with "Nightwatch"!
Genre: Horror/Mystery
Rating: R
Director: Ole Bornedal
Starring: Ewan McGregor, Nick Nolte, Josh Brolin
Synopsis: "Nightwatch" follows Martin Bells, a college student, who takes a job as the new night watchman at a morgue at the same time a serial rapist/murderer is on the loose. As the police hunt for the criminal, and more evidence is brought to light, Martin comes to the terrifying realization that he is their prime suspect!
Ewan Review: Ewan plays the main character Martin Bells. Martin is in college as a law student and is best friends with a mean, sexist, and inconsiderate (the list could go on) prick. Ewan has a female love interest and they have a couple kissing scenes as well as a really tender moment early in the movie. He speaks with an American English accent which isn't too shabby except when he gets scared and then he pretty much drops it lol. Speaking of scared, he spends a lot of the movie screaming, and crying. He has a bathing scene with no real nudity but if you pause at just the right time it's possible to see his package from afar. He also gets a public handjob, beat up, bit, and bound. In other words, you get a slew of very weak, vulnerable, and submissive Ewan content.
Screentime Percentage: Ewan is on screen for a grand total of 52/102 minutes making his SP 51%.
To Ewan or not to Ewan: Is the movie worth watching for Ewan content? Yes. Is the movie worth watching in general? Yes. Caveat: if you wish to be entertained then the movie will entertain you. But it espouses such harmful views of women that you might not be able to look past it and enjoy the story.
Warning before Watching: there is a violent murder within the first 3 minutes of the movie and another towards the end. There are close ups of mutilated, naked, dead bodies and lots and lots of blood. The movie is also incredibly sexist and revels in cruelty against women.
Where to Watch: You can stream the movie for free on Pluto TV or soap2day. It's available for rent on YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies, and Fandango at Home.
Closing Thoughts: This movie is in the horror genre seemingly because of the gore and suspense. The true horror of this film is the misogyny and general treatment of women. I was more disturbed and disgusted by the way the male characters interacted with the female characters. Mind you, this movie is not a cautionary tale. It is not about the pitfalls of sexism. The male characters do not receive comeuppance for their behavior. It is treated as natural. It is celebrated. We are to understand and sympathize with these chauvinists. We are to find humor in their hatred and charm in their cruelty. The funny thing is, you could (and I did) read a homoerotic subtext within the relationship of the two male best friends because they truly only love each other while their female love interests are just an afterthought. This movie is gross for all the wrong reasons and I will not be watching it again.
I went to the thrift store to buy clothes and didn't find anything I wanted so I decided to peruse the movie section and I saw this gem! I almost screamed! I LOVE this movie so much; I can't believe I'm so lucky to have found it! I now have two Ewan McGregor movies, yay!
Hello!
I feel your sadness and agree. Luckily, I have some info that will hopefully brighten your spirits! Ewan actually did two more musicals after Moulin Rouge!
In 2005, he performed in the stage musical "Guys and Dolls." Unfortunately, I haven't come across a bootleg of the full play but here's a link to him singing "Luck be a Lady" https://youtu.be/yigcJ3OCa-s?si=I70lyYBb6H6ra1Gf
Then in 2017, he was in Disney's live action "Beauty and the Beast" as Lumière. Now, he's a CGI candlestick for 99% of the movie, but he does sing twice that I can recall!
Finally, here's a list of Ewan movies after 2001 that aren't musicals but he does sing in for one reason or another:
Down with Love - 1 end credit song (absolutely gorge)
Miss Potter - 1 song (serenades the main character midway through the movie)
T2 Trainspotting - 1 song midway through the movie (not a serious song at all but still fun)
Bleeding Love - 2 songs (1st in the middle of the movie for fun and 2nd during the end credits as a duet with his daughter)
If you'd like a list of movies pre-Moulin Rouge I can do that too!
Sometimes I think about the fact that after Moulin Rogue, Ewan Mcgregor never did another musical and it makes me sad for the world.
If you received this you are a great mutual 🫂 Send this to 10 of your mutuals to spread love ❤️❤️❤️
My heart! I can't believe my eyes 🥹 I love you and the feeling is 1000% mutual 💓🫂💓
Woke up early today well rested. Walked in the thick morning fog. Ate a healthy breakfast. Open the blinds and let the sunshine in. Pet some cats. Tidied up my room a little. It's not perfect and it's a start. Enough to make a difference in my mood. Watched cartoons then YouTube videos. Ordered my favorite pizza for lunch. Took a nap. Reunited with a long lost friend. Went skateboarding in the beautiful weather. Listened to children laugh and play. Watched the water ripple in the sunlight. Took several moments to just stop and absorb how beautiful the world is. The way the wind blows the leaves like a rushing wave, how cool it is to see the moon so big and prominent in the daylight, the roar of a plane taking off, or a dog contentedly chewing on a toy. I saw parents playing with their children and people grilling delicious smelling food. I laughed at how the skateboard tickled my feet on rough terrain. I marveled at a huge tree and how it has probably been alive through so many historical events and yet it never has to deal with them. It's only job is to continue growing. I listened to music and felt inspired hearing Ewan McGregor sing "Your Song." For a moment, my fears of the world melted away and I was just one of many humans enjoying the sunlight. I didn't feel like the world was ending. I wasn't afraid for my life. I just existed and I felt whole.

Padawan braids should be far more decorated I don't care

I want them to scream culture, to scream tradition, to scream history!!!
Right now: do something other than social media or reading the news. Play a game, pick up a hobby, go for a walk, try a new recipe, ground yourself in something. Let your brain process everything by putting it on the back burner, let it percolate. Remember that you do have a voice, that the worst thing you can do is check out, that the most radical thing you can do is be kind.
Next few weeks: Keep working on the things that bring you joy. Make plans for the future. Assess where you are and where you want to be — physically, mentally, personally, geographically. Schedule doctor’s appointments. Delete your Twitter. Make new friends, connect with old ones, talk to your neighbors, join a community group. If you have a supportive family, talk to them too. Donate to the ACLU. By propping up others, teaching others, reassuring others, you help yourself too. Find a mutual aid group. Keep your head up. Love yourself and don’t wallow in despair. Remember that you do have a voice, that the worst thing you can do is check out, that the most radical thing you can do is be kind.
Next few months: execute on the plans for the future. Keep going with those hobbies. Keep loving yourself. Read reliable, fact-based news. Delete your Twitter (for real this time). Bake bread for your neighbor. Celebrate the holidays. Buy concert tickets as far out as you can, give yourself things to look forward to. Volunteer at a community center. Take a class. Teach others about how us queers and faggots are just people too. Remember that you do have a voice, that the worst thing you can do is check out, that the most radical thing you can do is be kind.
Next 6 months: Keep executing your plans. Write your representatives. Plant a little garden. Learn an instrument. Go to a zoo. Keep reading fact-based news (AP, Reuters, ProPublica, NPR even though it’s a bit biased to the left). Donate to the ACLU. When the sun comes out, get some bread, cheese, apples, and grapes, put them in a basket, go for a gay little picnic. Don’t make another Twitter account. Stock up on meds. Learn a new TTRPG. Pick up a fibrecraft. Remember that you do have a voice, that the worst thing you can do is check out, that the most radical thing you can do is be kind.
Next 4 years: make little baby steps to move towards your plans. Keep building relationships. Vote in local elections. Donate to the ACLU. Volunteer for state or national elections. Recognize that you live in a stupendously large country with assloads of diversity. Love yourself. Lift up other people. Remember that you do have a voice, that the worst thing you can do is check out, that the most radical thing you can do is be kind.
Shit is going to be really really rough for many many people. But if you’re reading this, you can’t give up, you can’t give in, you have to keep going. If you’re trans, if you’re queer, if you’re a freak and a faggot, you have to live.
Full disclaimer that I live in western Washington state, I’m white, I have a tremendous amount of privilege. I do my damndest to help people and use my own privilege to help others. I’m not perfect nor infallible, but reach out if you need something.
And if you’re still reading this, I love you.
(Ewan Matchmaker Game)
After much deliberation, the Matchmaker has chosen your perfect boyfriend...
Julien Sorrel (Scarlet and Black)
You like men who are complex and rough around the edges. Someone that society judges based on their exterior but you desire to know fully. Whose motivations aren't easily understood as they're kept tucked away. Only revealing their true selves to you once they love and trust you. Julien Sorrel is all these things and more. He's a dreamer with lofty goals who is shackled by the box society has put him in. A sweetheart who means well but is often controlled by his emotions. He would be a loving boyfriend and write you beautiful letters everyday. He'd work tirelessly to provide you the life you deserve. The way to his heart is to invite him on a picnic and let him share his knowledge of the flora and fauna with you. If you show him that you're a person of knowledge as well, then he'll immediately fall head over heels in love.
Thanks for playing!
(sorry for the delay)
Ooooh, you know just how to tempt me: with a man from the 1800s 🫦 lmao. I haven’t seen Scarlet and Black yet, so I can’t say for sure, but he seems like a good fit! You’ve definitely hit the nail on the head with my thing for brooding intellectuals hahaha and I love getting a character with the long hair! I’m certain we’d live a long, happy, and pretentious life together 😂
Thank you!
