a lot of ppl in the notes of the previous post are mentioning museums hoarding stolen cultural objects which is important beyond measure but museums shutting down due to lack of funding will not result in repatriation of cultural materials, they would most likely be auctioned off to private ultra-wealthy collectors to recoup some of their debt and we'd never find these objects again let alone be able to repatriate them. i understand the desire to say 'fuck museums let them die' for this reason but it won't have the result you think it will, and it will also mean that all of their ethically sourced and donated materials (which for most museums are the vast majority of their collections) will no longer be cared for by experts but again, sold off to private collectors who can do whatever they want with them or deteriorate in storehouses indefinitely. this would be catastrophic for public history and collective knowledge-sharing across the globe across cultures, and museums in post-colonial and run by/for racialized or otherwise oppressed ethnic groups will fall first because they receive FAR less funding than the large western institutions. just repeating phrases and sentiments you've seen online as a form of performative activism without knowing anything about what you're talking about does more harm than good and doesn't make you look smart or clever just foolish it's so deeply annoying and frustrating

Ice Age Children Frolicked In 'giant Sloth Puddles' 11,000 Years Ago, Footprints Reveal

More than 11,000 years ago, young children trekking with their families through what is now White Sands National Park in New Mexico discovered the stuff of childhood dreams: muddy puddles made from the footprints of a giant ground sloth.

Few things are more enticing to a youngster than a muddy puddle. The children — likely four in all — raced and splashed through the soppy sloth trackway, leaving their own footprints stamped in the playa — a dried up lake bed. Those footprints were preserved over millennia, leaving evidence of this prehistoric caper, new research finds.

Ice Age Children Frolicked In 'giant Sloth Puddles' 11,000 Years Ago, Footprints Reveal

The finding shows that children living in North America during the Pleistocene epoch (2.6 million to 11,700 years ago) liked a good splash. “All kids like to play with muddy puddles, which is essentially what it is,” Matthew Bennett, a professor of environmental and geographical sciences at Bournemouth University in the U.K. who is studying the trackway, told Live Science. When I was in second grade I was targeted by my teacher for isolation and harassment. If you got a ticket for misbehavior you didn't get to sit and watch a movie and eat candy with the rest of the kids on Friday, and every single week without fail I was sitting to the side alone. Half way through the year she switched it so tickets were for good behavior and you got to see the movie and eat candy and if you didn't get one, you had to sit alone. She scared me so badly that my already existing reading issues got worse and I just could not read or learn to read. She was young too, basically a new teacher, totally taking out her frustrations on kids and targeting me for her basically abuse. The administration was actually listening though, and was going to investigate her about getting her license revoked. Still, you shouldn't get a license in the first place if you're like this.

Something needs to be done about teachers who hate kids tbh

every now and then i have to think of the roman family from two thousand years ago that buried their little daughter in a boy's athletic-themed sarcophagus and i weep a little because that's the softest declaration of love i can possibly imagine
