Studying Irish myth and folklore is all fun and games until you find out pretty much all record of the roots of this shit was either lost, destroyed by the Christian churches that took over, or destroyed by the English. Talking to people who aren’t REALLY into classics sucks sometimes bc it’s understandable enough yk, acquired taste and all that, but also it’s like I SWEAR I’m not being pretentious by saying my favourite novels are Frankenstein/Dracula/Les Misérables THEY GENUINELY ARE 😭 IM GENUINELY ATTACHED TO THE CHARACTERS AND GENUINELY HAVE REREAD THEM MULTIPLE TIMES (except for Les Mis. I am… still not finished my first read it’s a long-ass book ok man leave me be) AND IM GENUINELY EXTREMELY ARTISTICALLY INSPIRED BY THEM ALL IM SORRY I am but a simple history nerd who genuinely likes reading about old men with psychological problems and almost-human-cryptids that are metaphors 🙏🙏

I think for a lot of white people, when you call them out on their casual racism (microagressions and non-overt things), they see it as a case of hurt feelings from your point of view as opposed to a discussion of harmful practices that aid the vehicle of racism. So in response, they take it as a personal attack, rather than a learning experience, and go on the defensive by bringing up a time that you made them upset as leverage. Or they defend their actions by doubling down on the behavior at hand and dismissing your criticism as over sensitivity and emphasizing their “harmless” intent. And I think that is one of the reasons why it’s so hard to address casual and interpersonal racism with the general white population (and also other poc tbh).

I'll admit I was worried that Cinderella's castle would yet again girlbossify the title character (seen too many bad adaptions) but instead they did something way more lovely, Bryce Charles plays Ella with all the sweetness and loveliness of a Disney princess and tortured gothic heroine, yes, AND her primary motivation is revenge! It burns in her heart like a flame. The two do not contradict each other. her dress being starlight is thematically relevant, do you see? She is the last cinder in the house of ashmore, clothed in the dying light at the end of the universe, on the edge of burning out and yet sparking back to life. Fire is warmth and light and yet it can still burn you DO YOU SEE-
