He smiled at her, and she was twenty-one again, and the guilt that she’d been suppressing broke through. Before him, she’d never believed that she had the power to hurt anyone. She’d known that Leo loved her, but she hadn’t known how much, until she watched as his heart shattered in her hands. She hadn’t wanted that power ever again, so she’d never let anybody else that close.
And so, “Fuck no,” was her response to his question. It was automatic, instinctual, and she had no time to think better of it before the words were out of her mouth. “I mean… I’m happy that you’re happy, but it’s just not… for me, I don’t think,” she said, looking down at her hands and wondering how much was too much to say. “I do have a kid, though, so… that’s weird.”
-
Leo’s eyes widened slightly at her response. He had once objected to the idea of marriage just as strongly as she did. Especially after things ended with Serenity all those years ago. But meeting his wife made him see how beneficial life with a partner could be. Happy, though? He forced a nod, agreeing with her that he was happy. That’s how a marriage was suppose to be. Or appear to be.
“A kid?” He questioned, his voice chiming too loud with surprise. “Like a whole person that you grew inside you and then…” he gulped thinking about delivering a baby and then being stuck with it. “That is weird. You’re a mom now.” He agreed and then began to mess with his popcorn bucket. not having the appetite for the snack. This was a lot to learn. There was a child out there that was hers. He bit his lip as he looked at her and tried to picture it. But the only thing his mind went to was who was the man that shared half of her son with. “Your boyfriend’s the father; I’m assuming?”
danny: You sound thrilled

leo: then I'll tell the Mrs.

If you could hook-up with anyone, with no strings attached, who would it be?
"Oh, there's always going to be strings..."
Definitely Leo.

‘Soph, Leo left his wallet at home again. I’m in a lunch meeting and then unavailable until 5. Please get it and meet him in central park to give it to him ASAP. Thanks‘
Damnit. She’d had finally relaxed into her pre-lunch slump. When Oliver wasn’t here and didn’t need her around, Sophie was essentially free to do as she wished as long as all the things on the checklist (and everything Oliver added through the day) were done in an orderly fashion. So, she’d cleared an hour and a half to head to Baltazar and have a nice lunch by herself. But no. Of course no.
‘Gotcha. I’ll figure it out’
This is why you can’t have nice things, Sophie.
Getting an Uber was gonna be hell, so armed with her airpods and her favorite micro-economics podcast, her metro card and her will to have lunch after this encounter, she made her way to the subway and all the way to Oliver’s house, retrieving the missed wallet and then texting Leo to make sure they were Ok on their meeting place. They’d spoken before, so she had his name on her phone.
‘Hi, It’s Sophie here. Does the central park corner of 5th and 59th work for you? I’ve got your wallet’
Maybe she could get lunch at the Plaza if she made it on time.

Leo cursed up a storm this morning when he realized before he was to leave his house that his wallet was missing. He searched high and low. And got himself into little spat with his wife about his negligence. She wasn’t wrong, however, this would be the third time this month that he misplaced it. If Leo hadn’t been drinking to wipe away some memories, he’d wonder where his own head had been at. He contacted Oliver as his place was the last place he was sure that he had it at. And because of his friend’s importance Leo had to work with his assistant.
‘Hi, Sophie, that works. Be there in 10.’
He texted back, real simple, as if he wasn’t much a text-er. Well, at least he liked to keep that impression up. Why he had to prove it to someone who was an acquaintance was beyond him. He had never met Oliver’s personal assistant. And hell before Oliver, Leo never knew someone who even had an assistant.
He had to rearrange his whole morning since without his wallet, he wouldn’t be able to just go about his day normally. Sure, his wife armed him with a card to their joint bank account, but he couldn’t risk having her see just where he was making charges.
Leo was right where he said he’d be ten minutes later. He immediately claimed a space near the fountain to keep away from foot traffic. He looked around, purposely people watching till hopefully he’d make eye contact with someone who was looking for him. But with this being Central Park, it was like finding a needle in a haystack. He pulled out his phone to text her again, before resuming his surveillance.
‘At the fountain. Red puffer coat.’
He bit his lip and continued to look around. He wasn’t fond of feeling this way, counting on some stranger.

She poked her head out to make sure none of her neighbors came out to see what the noise was before shutting and locking the door. turning her attention back to the man on her couch, she took a deep breath and walked back over to him. “Alright Leo, what brings you to my place at this hour, wasted?” she asked, sitting beside him. “finish that because you’re not leaving until you’re sober.” she lightly demanded. She’d be a terrible friend to send him back out in this state and for him to show up like this, something serious must’ve happened. It wasn’t everyday he was like this, not even on a night out at the bar.
-
“I think...” he began to say all while bringing the cup to his noggin to tap his temple with that hand. At first, Leo knew exactly what he was gonna say. He was going to spill everything out to one of his best friends. Everything that had happened the minute he left her place. But the fear of revealing who exactly he was had crept up again, making him close up again. Which allowed another head to begin thinking for him. “...I came here to finish what we started.” He rose his brows with a glint in his eye. He was making such a bold claim for someone who was seeing a motion blur with every movement that was made.
NEW GIRL (2011—2018)
SEASON ONE, EPISODE TWELVE The Landlord
blakemadden:
Blake wanted to have that attachment again with Leo, hell she had missed him like no ones business, but she’d thought keeping herself away from him to maintain her secret was the only way forward. Except now he was professing a want to help her out which made a tiny part of her wonder if she’d had told him the truth from the start, maybe they could have done this together. Apart from the way her arm still throbbed from where he’d grabbed it was too prominent to ignore, making the brunette swallow hard. “Why?” She asked in a genuinely confused voice, not understand how this three sixty had occurred so rapidly. He had been so angry with her not two seconds ago. It had scared her.
As the gap between them closed she couldn’t help but place her hand on his shoulders, the coo of his voice soothing after the harshness it had contained before. Blake gazed up at him like he held the key to the world, which was one of her biggest downfalls, the girl wanted to believe that this was the start of things going right more than anything else. “No…I know…I know you have.” She murmured, her eyes roaming his face until her gaze settled on his lips, pressing her own together. “I’ve missed you…” she admitted in a low murmur, something just between the two of them.
-
“Because the circumstances aren’t as frightening as they could have been?” He worded, thinking it was quite obvious. But it was only clear to him and his selfish perspective. “You didn’t tell me you were pregnant, let alone show me you were— fuck Blake, you were hiding it from me. And I find out like this? What was I suppose to think?” He asked with no malice but looking for some angle of sympathy or relevance. Some way to clear his consciousness of the guilt he felt for placing his hands on her. Some way to rationalize his mood swings. “Admittedly, I shouldn’t have assumed I was the only one who has won your affection. It makes sense now to me why you ended things when you did. But putting all that aside, you’re my friend and I want to help you.” He spoke evenly, his anger was clearly diminished the second he found out he wasn’t a father. His mind was only wrapped around her and how he wanted to be a helping hand at the very least.
“I’ve always been here.” He replied in the same low tremor, but he stubbornly did not want to admit that he missed her too. Though his dark chocolate eyes were brimming with indulgence as he looked at her. “I didn’t decide on changing things between us.” He reminded her. “And of course, I’ll still respect your wishes. I won’t try anything.” As soon as those words left his mouth, he wished he could take them back. Wished that that he could push that boundary if not destroy it.
