I made a bunch of The Chain Pride symbols to celebrate!
I love the Chain for so many reasons (players, plot, community, characters…) but one thing I really love and I think is just awesome about it is Matt’s original reason for wanting to stream it, which was just “I want you to see the DM things I’m telling you to do in action.”
And it’s really working. Watching the Chain always energizes me and watching Matt DM is just such a good model. Every session I’ve DMed since the stream began (3, or maybe 4?) I’ve felt more and more comfortable in my abilities. Matt is just very candid with the players and the audience and I think that’s a good style for a lot of newish DMs
C1 F2 R2 Z1
just hops this time
C1 How do they sit in a chair
– normal except completely sideways (arm rests prevent this)
F2 What is her ideal party
– She doesn’t really like parties
R2 Would they be a strict or laid back parent
– Strict but I guess it depends what about
Z1 What is their favorite animal
– real big just sloppy dogs like st bernards or newfoundland or neapolitan mastiff
All my girls
I love the way capital has been set up as like, broadly speaking, a normal city with crazy magic shit just beneath the surface. Matt has played that perfectly to create that contrast and highlight how an ordinary human wouldn’t notice anything strange about their city but adventurers can find ancient catacombs and monsters under a library.
I think if I were running it I’d play that idea up far more such as having it be normal sized and less alien races out in the open but create the atmosphere that in any shadow there could be 3 drow hanging out, Tieflings are only found in the hardest to find clubs and bars, back allys that don’t exist on maps etc.
My chain OC, since it’s about time I finally made one!
Name: Oak.
Human female ranger (the second best ranger, thanks very much), mid 50′s. Face like a gnarled oak, hence the name. Stronger than she looks, and loves to complain. Every time she’s asked, she has a different story about her life before The Chain. Serves in the Advancers, as a scout. Or at least, she did. But right now, she’s making her way from Blackbottom to Capital.
Shout out to @wojtekbc for being a damn pillar of this community. Also @fisyx @xynnos @zarozinia and @hubbleablubble for doing cool featured art.
I really like the idea of enchanted suits of armour powered by old magic and the souls of dead knights
Dungeons and Dragons, but your character must be a self insert, and class is determined by your current abilities Barbarian Must have a demonstrable temper, go off I guess Bard Must be able to play an instrument Cleric Must be involved in a religious organization Druid Must have demonstrable knowledge of, or passion for nature Fighter Must beat the DM in physical combat (hope your DM’s a wimp) Monk Must practice a martial art Paladin Must have a cause that one actively supports Ranger Must be able to fire a kind of ranged weapon accurately Rogue Must sneak up on the DM (Hard mode: steal their dice) Sorcerer Must have a powerful family heirloom Warlock Must work for a powerful entity (Corporations, The Government) Wizard Must have a College Degree or a 3.0 GPA If you can’t be any of these you start as a commoner, and may become one of these classes when you finally satisfy these conditions.
Loyalty is to be demonstrated, not demanded
