Sleepover (part 2)
It was kind of wild to see how everyone’s favorite movie was different at the sleepover. Obviously Penny’s favorite movie was now and probably forever will be Hocus Pocus. She can never thank Constance enough for the serotonin everytime she sees the movie that it’s become a staple for every Halloween binge they do in tradition.
Noel’s favorite movie happened to be Corpse Bride. It was neither French nor scary but it was tragic and heart breaking with beautiful music and a macabre way of looking at life and that was good enough for Noel Gruber, local theatre enthusiasts even if all St Cassian had was a choir. Mischa didn’t understand the ending of Corpse Bride because he thought Emily dying was not worth it because he thought Victorian was kind of a boring character. Ocean, who’s actually watching because it’s not scary, mentions how Victoria kind of reminds her of what she thinks Talia would be like which Mischa heavily denies stating that Talia is the most wonderful and most artistic person he knows and adores her.
Mischa’s favorite movie was of course Saw 5 because of the moral of the story (which Ocean heavily remembered being frightened by) but it was only 20 minutes in the movie when Ricky chimes in saying, “Mischa, I think you were talking about Saw 6, not Saw 5. This is the wrong movie.” Mischa was slightly devastated that he rented the wrong movie but Noel suggested they continue watching the movie instead and next time at his house they could watch Saw 6. Mischa instantly agreed. And yes, Ocean did spend the whole movie covering her eyes with the blanket with Jane and Constance wrapped around her. Ocean hates being babied but when it comes to horror movies, she throws all thoughts to the wind. (Side thought: Saw 5 was probably the most uncomfortable film they watched that day so if someone flinched a little too hard Mischa would literally pause the movie and ask if they wanted to continue because he didn’t want to force his friends to watch it with him. Ocean definitely wanted out while Constance and Penny was distracted with her. Ricky was also somehow distracted but Penny was behind all of them and if she noticed that Ricky shook hard, she would hug him too and he won’t lie and say it wasn’t comforting. The only willing to watch Saw 5 was Noel so they ended up stopping it halfway through and skipping to the next movie.)
Ricky Potts was definitely the most creative person in the choir. Ever since his disability took away his ability to speak, he spent most time thinking to himself silently and creating the most fantastical worlds. It only made sense when his favorite movie for Halloween would be Coraline. The fantastical and dark world of Coraline fuels Ricky’s personal creativity. He thinks everything about it is brilliant from the clay dolls to the music to the story line. Sure it’s not e-cats in space but nothing could really beat that in his mind. It’s safe to say that the choir really enjoyed watching it and even got jump scared towards the end when the other-mother runs towards the screen. Noel genuinely jumped, launching the popcorn into his lap.
Last person to choose a movie was Ocean. Ocean wasn’t really a Halloween person. Growing up with Hippie parent really skewed her reality of things, especially with the thoughts of monsters in the closet or children eating monsters. She ended up choosing Nightmare Before Christmas to rent, only hearing of good reviews and knowing it wasn’t really a horror flick. The somber mood of the movie really set the tone for being the last movie of the night. It was surprisingly calm and dainty, compared to everything they had been watching and especially compared to Corpse Bride which was also another Tim Burton film. Most of the choir hadn’t even made it towards the end of the film. All the junk food and movie binging had made them tired and they spent the rest of movie snuggled up next to each other, whispering secrets and falling asleep. Jane was the first to fall asleep, leaning her head on Ocean’s shoulder, softly snoring. The choir glanced around at each other, grins spreading on each of their faces as Ocean laid Penny down into the floor mat. The sleepover was a success.

A snippet from “those hands were made to love” on AO3 - Chapter 4 - hands down one of my fav fics.
EDIT: I found the writer! @ahenix 🥲
This particular chapter was about them attending a function at Eden, right after Yor has an accident (which she conceals with a hastily wrapped gauze). Loid finds out halfway that she’s been bleeding through her dress and proceeds to drag her to he school’s infirmary. Then there was a large piece of beautiful angst on whether she’d let him help and - here you go.

Can we talk about this scene please!
Noel: I’ve never been drunk before…or kissed a man. Thanks.
First time I watched this I thought he was just thanking Mischa for the drink
BUT, what if he was also thanking him for the kiss during Noel’s Lament? Since if we include that Mischa just ticked both boxes on Noel’s bucket list…
