It seems like everyone around you is either already in love, or in the process of falling, and while normally you couldn’t give a damn, finding out the co-worker you’ve had a teensy crush on is dating someone else at the office seems to sucker punch you right in the gut. It’s stupid, and you’re irritated at yourself, but you can’t seem to shake out of the funk you’ve fallen face first in.

Feeling lonely and heartsore, and mad for no reason, during drinks with your best friend you spot a man at the bar. Tequila confident, you make your way over to the stranger, and successfully one thing leads to another. The next morning you leave before he’s woken up, feeling satisfied in one way, but still as discontented as ever. Telling yourself it was an inebriated mistake, you quickly try to forget about it.

A/N: I went on a writing binge the past couple days and I was able to finish this monster fic, and wanted to get it out for you guys so you can read during quarantine! I usually tend to write really angsty and darker fics, so I hope that the fluff in this one is really refreshing :) 

“No!” You scream, flailing your arms as the officials try to drag you into the waiting carriage. “I won’t marry him! I can’t!” 

The matchmaker looks wistfully at you as you struggle. “Please! Y/n, he is rich! He’ll pay for your debt, and you’ll avoid a punishment! I’m sure that your fiancee, ‘Jungkook’ that you speak of, doesn’t even exist! You have no one else! Just go!” 

You struggle, putting up quite a fight with the two men gripping either of your arms. “Never!” You scream, turning to bite one on his arm. He yelps and lets you go, and when his partner sees that you bit him, he throws you onto the ground, drawing his sword and whipping it at your neck. 

He huffs, “You bitch, you know that it’s the King’s decree that all women must be wed by tonight. This is your last chance to survive. Your punishment may be death, and if you want to meet that end, so be it!” 

You glare up at him, blowing the hair that fell out of your bun out of your face, “So do it! Kill me! I’d rather die than be married off to someone who’s older than my father! He’s a pig!”

The friendship you and Taehyung had was confusing.

When people first learn that you aren’t just friends, but best friends actually, they don’t understand how. You two are complete opposites.

He was the type of person who liked to stay out late and party, sleep around while you were the type who liked to stay inside, to yourself. While Taehyung had many friends, you only had him and one other person—a girl you met in your art class.

People always seem to ask either of you how you manage to be friends with the other, and you have given them the same answer every time. The two of you have grown up together, parents being college friends, getting married and having kids around the same time as each other, Taehyung being just a week older than you. That made celebrating birthdays much easier for your parents since they would make you share parties together when you were younger. But as you two grew older, most of the time you and Taehyung would just spend your guys’ birthday with each other, alone.

And through all the hardships, school, having different interests like Taehyung trying out for sports and making more friends, and you spending most of your time on art, and even fights you two have had, you both seem to always come back to each other.

Simply putting it, you two were inseparable, always around each other. If someone saw one of you, then the other would not be far behind.

Even after graduating from high school and attending the same college, the closeness you two share have never diminished. Even though Taehyung now spent most of his time with his other friends and partying, and you focusing more on school and your art, you both always seem to find a way to make some time for each other—whether that be weekly movie nights, shared short lunches between classes, or even surprise visits.

But as school went on, the time Taehyung would spend with you became shorter and shorter, which made the time he did spend with you more valuable. Because he was your best friend, and you miss him.

Even though you want to be something more.

But you knew he didn’t feel the same way for you, because you weren’t his type, at least that’s what you heard him say to his friends. So being just his friend was enough—it had to enough, because you don’t know if you have the strength remove him from your life, someone who has treated you with nothing but kindness and love. And it wasn’t like Taehyung was a terrible person or anything, he wasn’t even bad. You just couldn’t handle him treating you almost as if you were his girlfriend instead of a friend and then going off and fucking other girls.

Your heart couldn’t handle it anymore.

Glancing at the time, you saw that it was half past eight. Today was Friday so Taehyung should be here soon for your guys’ weekly movie night. You double checked to see if everything was ready—the popcorn was made, hot chocolate was prepared, and he will be bringing the sweets. And the movie you selected for tonight was The Notebook, despite him denying it you knew that it was his favorite movie.

Taehyung was such a romantic.

As you sat down on the couch, you could hear yourself tapping your feet against the ground impatiently as you waited for him—he should be here in about half an hour. With you two both busy with your classes and other extracurricular activities, you barely had anytime for each other and this is the first time you have seen one another since last week. You couldn’t contain the excitement, you were excited to see him.

Your heart skipped a beat every time the clock moved forward one minute, knowing that it was a minute closer to seeing him. But when nine soon became ten after nine, your excitement slowly began to diminish.

He has never been late before, and you mean ever. Yes, he has shown up early but never late. And you know you shouldn’t assume anything, his fraternity is quite a distance away from your place and it’s the weekend so there might be traffic on the way here. But as ten minutes after nine soon became twenty then thirty, and then an hour, you couldn’t help but think you should text him to see if anything is wrong.

Taking your phone, you sent a quick message.

you: hey tae, it’s already ten and you aren’t here yet. is everything alright, are you okay?

You reread the message nearly a dozen times, making sure you weren’t sounding too clingy or nosy.

You waited for him, wondering if he was just caught up with something and was running late, very late. And you waited, and you waited, and you waited until midnight came, with not a single message from him.

That is when you gave up.

After cleaning up everything, emptying the untouched popcorn into the trash and pouring the full cups of now cold hot chocolates down the drain, you decided to just go to bed.

Lying down, phone in hand and scrolling through social media—Snapchat specifically, your heart fell into your stomach when seeing Taehyung’s icon on your screen. He uploaded something to his story. Your finger hovered over his profile picture, hesitant whether or not you should view it. But curiosity got the best of you and you clicked on it—and your heart dropped when seeing what he posted.

The first thing your eyes laid on was a video of him with his arm around a brunette girl and a red solo cup in hand, both of them singing along with the music playing in the background. The next thing was a photo of him kissing that same girl, and the next was more suggestive, showing his tongue literally going in her mouth.

The more you continued clicking through his story the more you felt your heart breaking.

Next thing you knew you were moving onto your—correction, his friends’ stories. First was Jimin, and the first thing you saw was a photo of just him but in the background you could see Taehyung sitting on a couch with the same girl, his lips on her neck and his hand up her shirt.

You didn’t realize you were crying until a sob suddenly came out of your mouth and a few droplets falling on your hand.

You turned off your phone completely and closed your eyes, hoping that sleep would take over but the image of Taehyung with that girl was practically burned into your mind.

That night you cried yourself to sleep.

Your best friend and the man you’re in love with would rather spend what was suppose to be your guys’ night with someone else.
